Summary:

Despite their opposing natures, she refuses to leave him in pain. Through the night, they confront the tragedy that binds them together and the love that refuses to die.
Story:
The forest was quiet, save for the soft rustling of leaves in the midnight breeze. The moon cast its silver glow upon the treetops, illuminating a lone figure sitting by the riverbank. Phoenix stared at his reflection in the water, his once-bright flames now flickering weakly, barely illuminating the sorrow in his golden eyes.
He clenched his fists. "Everything I touch... I destroy."
A ripple disturbed the water, and he looked up. Aqua stood a few steps away, her blue eyes filled with concern. The moonlight made her translucent wings shimmer like liquid silver.
"You're not alone, Phoenix," she said softly.
He turned away. "You shouldn't be here, Aqua. You know what happens when fire and water mix."
She stepped closer, undeterred. "I know what happens when you push me away too."
His breath hitched. "I lost control, Aqua. I—" He shut his eyes, the memory of past destruction burning behind them. "I almost burned down the village… I almost hurt you."
Aqua knelt beside him, the cool aura surrounding her making his flames flicker uncertainly. "But you didn't. You fought against yourself to protect us. You think you're dangerous, but all I see is someone who's afraid of losing the people he loves."
He swallowed hard. "I don't deserve you."
She reached out, hesitating only for a second before cupping his face with her gentle, cool hands. "And yet, here I am."
For the first time in a long while, Phoenix let himself lean into her touch. The fire and water did not clash in destruction; instead, they coexisted—like them.
A single tear slipped from Aqua's eye, mixing with the embers of his sorrow. "You are not your past, Phoenix. You are more than your flames."
The night carried their silence, but in that quiet moment, something shifted. The fire within Phoenix did not burn out; instead, it found warmth in something stronger than pain—love.
And Aqua would never let him forget it.
