For the next couple of weeks Bakugo refused to leave his old room back at his house, deciding that he rather not see anyone at the moment other than the regular visit from his parents. They made it a habit to come and sit in in his room everyday as if doing that would somehow help them through the day. At first, he didn't understand why and found it annoying but after a while he came to understand that even though he couldn't physically be here this gave them some sense of comfort. So, he let it be.
He'd like to have said that he'd held it together this whole time, that he was fine, but that would have been a terrible lie. In fact, the sad truth was that he just couldn't get the tears to stop no matter what he did. He just felt like disconnecting with the outside world thinking it wouldn't have made a difference at this point anyways.
He constantly found himself sitting alone in his room silently and absently staring at the wall, the constant silence pressing against his ears with the fresh trails of tears still glistening down his cheeks.
The ongoing cries of his parents at night would always echo down the hall and continued to drive him mad, knowing that if he didn't get out of the house soon, he would just lose it. So, when he saw his parents waltz into his room yet again, he was still sitting on his bed staring at the wall as they eyed everything around them.
"Don't even think about it." He quietly said hoping that they weren't thinking about donating all his stuff like his mom used to joke about back then. He knew it was a lost cause and from what he heard whenever they went to visit the private hospital it sounded like he was in some weird deep induced coma like state that none of the doctors knew why. But what scared him the most was that because of this he could tap out any minute.
He still had plenty of questions left unanswered about what happened and would remain that way unless he waited patiently for someone to fill him in since he couldn't talk with anyone. Not anymore.
"I think it's time Mitsuki." His dad quietly said to which his mom sadly nodded wiping her eyes.
"I suppose you're right. They might need the room for someone else."
"What are you talking about now?" He swiftly got to his feet knowing they wouldn't be able to hear him. He had long since given up on trying to talk to anyone after the first visit to the hospital. Begrudgingly he quickly followed them out and into the car, realizing that after a while they were heading back to UA. "What are we doing here?"
While his parents made their way to the main building to talk to Principle Nezu, he decided to slowly make his way to the dorms. It couldn't hurt to see what those morons were up to right.
He stood outside the doors to Height Alliance hesitant to go in at first both because he actually missed being back here and because anytime his body would phase through things he would freak out. To be honest it still felt like a damn slap in the face everytime that happened because that just reminded him of the fact that he wasn't actually here, physically. "Can't even fuckin open a damn door…" he griped, hovering his hand over the doorknob until he heard familiar voices approaching from behind.
"I don't think it'll be that difficult to tell you the truth." Tsu said with a slight grin obviously amused at something Deku was saying.
"If you say so Tsu." He grinned sheepishly scratching his cheek. "I just hope I'll have you're confident when it comes to this test."
Rolling his eyes Bakugo shoved his hands in his pockets following them in. "Idiot thinks he can fight that damn war on his own but yet freaks out over a goddamn test."
"Hey you're back!" Kaminari said walking over to them from the kitchen. "We're making dinner if you'd like to help."
"Oh fuck not you!" Bakugo ran his hand up and down his face knowing that this was a disaster waiting to happen.
"You're cooking?" Tsu asked. Apparently, he wasn't alone in thinking this.
"Yeah, Mina and Iida are also helping."
"How reassuring…" Bakugo shook his head aware of the outcome. Hey who knows, maybe he'll get company soon in the afterlife. Smirking, he quickly shook those thoughts away. Of course, he wouldn't want anything to happen to any of them but shit, never in his life would he have ever complained about not having anyone to talk to. But this was a pain in the ass.
"How did the studying go?" Todoroki asked walking over to them with a towel around his neck from getting out of the shower not long ago and a cup of tea in his hand.
"I feel like my brain could use a little break, but other than that it went fine." Deku chuckled before turning back to Tsu. "Thanks for studying with me Tsu."
"No problem. Ribbit"
"You guys are more than welcome to help yourselves to some tea that I made." Yaoyorozu kindly smiled lifting up her own cup of tea.
"Thanks that'll be great." Deku grinned walking over to her.
Scoffing Bakugo walked over to the common area as Tsu's continued talking to Yaoyorozu.
Looking around Tsu gave a faint sigh realizing some people were missing. "Has anyone seen Ochaco by any chance?"
"I'm afraid she's in her room. Said she really needed to study for this test. Something about having to catch up since her work studies with Ryukyu has been keeping her busy." Yaoyorozu said with a sad smile. "Frankly I'm worried she's pushing herself more and more than she needs to."
"That's understandable. Since we all haven't been the same…." Tsu's voice dropped saying what they were all still thinking but yet were always reluctant to mention. Hoping that they would all find a way to pull through everything that's happened including the loss of one of their own. Which they knew would never heal.
Walking through the first floor Bakugo saw glimpses of familiar faces each occupied in either studying or just relaxing before dinner was ready. So, when his parents walked inside after Mr. Aizawa, he silently followed them to the elevator and up to the fourth floor.
He had known this day would eventually come, yet when it did, he still felt unprepared. He found himself standing inside his old dorm room while his parents walked back out to get the boxes ready to clear out his room and he couldn't contain the trembling tears spilling from his eyes any longer. This was it. This was the moment he felt his dreams of becoming a pro hero were slowly being ripped away from him, packed and crushed.
"I can't fuckin do this shit!" his breath became haggard wishing that that weird black haired extra from before would just come and take him from here right now. All of his life this had been what he wanted, and it was being taken from him right in front of his eyes. She was right. What the hell was left now?
"Hey, is there anything we can do?"
Whipping his head around he saw Sero, Kaminari, Mina and Kirishima standing behind the doorway waiting for his parents.
Widening his eyes when he looked at the red head whose hair was already growing out with noticeably black roots and his usually toothy grin looked tired and forced. His usually playful eyes now looked puffy and tired "Shitty hair? What the hell?"
"Thank you. We would appreciate it." Bakugo's dad gave them a small smile as they let themselves in quietly helping them pack everything up.
"Kirishima? How are you doing?" Mitsuki wiped a small tear from her eye knowing full well that the red head wasn't fooling anyone.
"I should be asking you guys that." He quietly said glancing down at one of the weights he remembered giving Bakugo for his last birthday.
"Oi what the fucks wrong with you idiot?!" Bakugo shouted pissed off that Kirishima would let himself spiral down like that which wasn't like him. Sure, Bakugo always nagged and pushed him to train and have a healthy lifestyle but damn, shit was never this bad.
"I'll be alright." Kirishima finally said putting the weights away and wiping his own eyes. "This just all still feels unreal to me. I still sometimes think that he's going to come kicking in the door any minute and yell at us."
Smiling, Mina gently wrapped her arms around one of his, leaning onto him and whispered comforting words.
"This shit sucks." Bakugo stood from his position on the bed jumping at the chance when Mina said she'd come right back with some tissues for Kirishima and Bakugo's mom.
Along the way to her room Bakugo only stood outside of it since he never liked going into Pinky's room since it always looked like fuckin Pepto-Bismol threw up in here, but at least it gave him the chance to be away from his almost lack of a room.
Absently walking back and forth in the hallway he halted for a brief moment in front of the first door wondering what lay behind it.
"Alright." Mina said to herself closing her bedroom door and mentally preparing herself to help with clearing Bakugo's room. Turning her gaze to the door next to hers, she quickly made the decision to check on her friend for which Bakugo quickly stepped aside to allow her to knock. "Hey Ochaco, you in there? Babe?"
"You call that a fuckin knock?" Bakugo rolled his eyes suddenly feeling impatient and shifting from side to side next to Mina facing the door. After there was no reply, he impatiently glared at the pink girl. "Dumbass what are you waiting for? Knock again!"
Hovering her fist over the door Mina slowly lowered it shaking her head.
"What are you doing?! Didn't you want to check on her?" he furiously stomped his foot. He didn't know what brought this on, whether he was the one who wanted to make sure she was ok but then again after seeing how Kirishima was holding up, Bakugo convinced himself that he was just being a good classmate in making sure they were all doing fine. Which is why he was glad when Mina poked her nosey head inside the room after quietly opening the door.
"I think this is the first time I'm glad your dumb ass is so fuckin nosey." Bakugo snorted walking past her to look around. Uraraka's room was nothing like he had thought-this being the first time he was ever in here. It was simple enough with not a lot going on but the basic necessities. "This is so you Round-face." He smirked before his eyes fell on the sleeping girl passed out on top of piles of books.
Tilting her head, Minas eyes moistened over as she crouched down next to her, moving the hair out of her face. "Oh sweety…."
"She looks exhausted." Bakugo quietly said furrowing his brows when he saw her gently shake Urarakas shoulder. "Don't wake her."
"Ochaco?"
"Hmm…?"
When he saw her peeking her brown eyes open, Bakugo felt himself gasp as his heart skipped a beat. That weird familiar feeling in the pit of his stomach quickly making an appearance again shocked him into realizing that he missed seeing them after only two weeks. But to him it now seemed much longer.
"Hey there sleepyhead. You feel asleep studying again." Mina softly spoke.
"Again?" Bakugo did a double take of her when he saw Uraraka slowly lift her sleepy head up and her tired eyes curiously looking around her own room. After spending all this time at school and living together, not once had he ever heard of her willingly studying herself to sleep without complaint. Sure, he knew she wasn't bad in school, she was actually pretty decent and was top when it came to close combat training -not that he kept notice of course.
Mina straightened herself out when she saw Uraraka cover her mouth yawning, then rubbing her tired eyes looking to see what time it was. "It's almost dinner time Ochaco. Care to join us?"
"Y-yeah." She tiredly smiled looking back at her books. The massive eyebags under her eyes not going unnoticed by him and a clear indication that she hadn't been getting enough sleep lately. "I'll just finish up here then I'll meet you downstairs."
"Ok." Mina pressed her lips together heading for the door. "Oh, by the way, Bakugo's parents are here getting his room cleared out…." She didn't need to go on since by the expression on her friend's face she could tell Uraraka had already figured out the rest. "It'll be nice to say hello."
Forcing a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes Uraraka nodded before pulling herself closer to her desk. "I-I'll make sure to see them before they leave."
"Ok…" Mina quietly said knowing what she meant but not wanting to push her further on the matter knowing it was still too soon for her and she needed to give Uraraka some time to heal. The gravity user was never good at hiding her feelings well, especially were Mina and Tsu were involved or when the mention of a certain explosive boy's name came up. "Ochaco…?"
"Yes?'
"Let me know if you need anything ok?"
Opening her mouth to respond Uraraka quickly snapped it shut just able to give a small nod before turning back to her book.
"So, you're not coming or even going to help?" Bakugo clicked his tongue as a rush of anger and disappointment filled him. What the hell was her problem? Was he not even deserving of being acknowledged by someone like her? Sure, he understood the importance of school and all. But he was fuckin gone and she didn't even make an effort to show that she even cared a little. Quickly stomping out of the room he shook his head letting his emotions lead him back to his almost empty room. "Thanks cheeks."
When he arrived back in his room, he couldn't care less anymore what everyone was doing. Sure, he was still pretty irritated of all these people invading his damn privacy, but it was overshadowed by his most recent emotions. "Dumb Round-face and her studying…" he grumbled knowing full well that it was pretty petty of him but come on! Out of just a handful of people he knew that she was someone he could always count on whether she knew it or not. So why did he all of a sudden feel so betrayed?
"Hey what's this?" Mina pulled something from under the bed with a face mixed with curiosity and a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
"Oh clam it alien freak!" He sat himself on the ground against one of the walls. "It's not what you think."
"Was Mr. Bakugo being naug-" snapping her mouth shut she sheepishly looked back at Bakugo's parents completely having forgotten they were there. "Training material. It's probably training material." She quickly said mentally smacking herself.
"Hey, I know what that is." Kirishima grinned crouching down and lifting the small black and orange shoe box.
"No you don't!"
"I'd catch him glancing at it from time to time." He said walking back to his mom.
Scoffing Bakugo leaned his head back wondering how much longer he had to bear witness to all this before he could finally get the hell away.
Knock Knock Knock
"Um…excuse me, I hope I'm not interrupting."
"Hah?" Lifting his head, he narrowed his eyes scowling at the brunette awkwardly standing by the doorway. "What do you want? Aren't you busy?""
"Not at all." Tilting her head Mitsuki eyed her with recognition. "I know you, you're Ochaco Uraraka if I'm not mistaken."
"I am." Nodding Uraraka couldn't help but avert her gaze, it still amazed her as well as everyone how much Bakugo and his mom looked so much alike. But that was the problem right now too. She just couldn't force herself to look directly at her and that just made things even worse.
Sharing a look both parents ushered her inside but saw that she was still reluctant to cross that threshold.
"Sorry." Clearing her throat, she managed to at least give them a weak smile before taking a step back. "I-I just wanted to come by and say 'hello'."
Smiling Mitsuki instead walked over to her surprising both Uraraka and Bakugo by giving her a fond hug before whispering something into her ear which made the brunettes give a small smile.
"Thank you."
"Anytime." Mitsuki smiled.
Jumping to his feet Bakugo quickly ran to catch up to her as she speed walked down the hall. "Oi Uraraka!"
Halting in her steps he saw her covering her mouth with her hand and closing her eyes. What he didn't expect was to hear the barely audible sob that escaped her before she shook her head and walked back to her room, closing the door behind her.
Silently standing there in the hall it took him a while to try and understand why she was so upset thinking that like the others, he wasn't the only one that this war had impacted. A lot of other lives were lost, and a lot of other people got hurt. If not physically but emotionally too and perhaps that's what was affecting her so much, since there was no way in hell his absence would impact her like this. It just couldn't be. In his eyes there was no way Ochaco Uraraka would ever miss him the way a part of him hoped she would.
