HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !
(and sorry for the delay, I had the backlash of the new year x))
So.. One of my resolutions will be to continue to publish at least 2 chapters per month, or even more if I can.
And my other resolution... is to start drawing more regularly! (Because yes, I haven't forgotten the promise I made during the first chapter.. oopsie.)
Small preview with a first illustration on my tumblr/X account which will all be linked to the events of the fanfiction if you are curious to check inside my profile !
I would have liked to publish this inside of my chapter like a light novel, but unfortunately the limits of the site prevent me from doing so!
For the illustrations, I plan to give myself the goal of publishing a minimum illustration on my fanfic by months. I prefer to be realistic about my free time...
Speaking of free time, I think that after the next chapter, I will come back at a rate of one chapter every two weeks to prepare the second day properly ! (It will be shorter than this first day, I promise x))
I'll return to a pace of one chapter per week when I'm optimized enough, no need to worry!
That's it for my goals~ You can also share your resolutions for this year in the comments, I'll be curious to read that!
I wonder where the fanfic will take me and where we will be next year, if I will have finished it or not.. But that's part of the game, I'll just give it my best and see where it takes me ! In any case, I have no regrets about starting this fanfic.
Thanks again to all of you who are reading me now and I hope you will take care of yourself during this new year!
And now, time for the contest.. the results are coming today!
See yah next week !
Dawn burst into the participants' lounge, her excitement practically radiating as she entered. Piplup trotted close behind, its chirps filled with pride. The room buzzed with lively conversations, coordinators chatting about their performances and the anticipation of the final result in the end of the day. But Dawn's energetic entrance quickly drew the attention of a familiar face lounging on a nearby couch.
"Well, if it isn't Miss Whirlpool Master herself," May called out, her sapphire eyes gleaming with warmth and a touch of mischief.
Her stylish outfit, a vibrant orange and black ensemble, hugged her generous form, blending both flair and function. The short-sleeved tunic, tailored with sleek black accents, was cinched at the waist with a pokeball buckle, while her fitted black leggings reinforced that she was still in a martial arts mood. Her brown hair, tied in a loose bun with playful strands framing her face, completed her effortless charisma. She leaned back, resting one hand on her knee, exuding an air of casual confidence.
Dawn beamed, rushing over to her friend. "May! Did you see that? Piplup and I scored a 47! We're moving on!"
"I did see," May replied with a soft smile, though her expression quickly shifted to something more playful yet challenging. "But don't think that's the only thing I noticed."
Dawn tilted her head, her deep navy eyes brimming with curiosity. "Huh? What do you mean?"
May's smirk widened as she crossed her arms, leaning forward slightly. "Oh, don't play innocent with me, Dawn. You know exactly what I'm talking about."
Dawn blinked, her expression innocent and wide-eyed. "I… have no idea what you're getting at."
May raised a brow, her tone laced with teasing accusation. "You don't think I noticed? That kick—you totally copied my move!"
Dawn froze, caught off guard, before her hands shot up in defense. "What? No way! It's just a kick! You don't own every fancy move, May!"
The Hoenn trainer laughed, shaking her head with exaggerated exasperation. "Oh, please, Dawn. I saw you out there, kicking those bubbles like you were trying to channel my performance with Blaziken."
Dawn's cheeks flushed, and she crossed her arms with a small huff. "Alright, fine! Maybe I was a little inspired… but it's not like I was trying to steal anything! It's bubbles—totally different vibe!"
May tapped her chin thoughtfully, pretending to mull over the excuse. "Mmm-hmm. Different vibe, huh? Well, I'll give you that. But copying the best can be a double-edged sword, you know."
Dawn flipped her hair with an exaggerated flourish, a playful smirk forming. "Exactly. And I only copy the best."
The top coordinator chuckled, brushing her own hair back with a casual flick. "Hard not to inspire greatness, isn't it?"
"Wow, modest much?" Dawn teased, rolling her eyes. "And for the record, who says I didn't improve it?"
May tilted her head, her grin turning sly. "Improve it? Oh, sweetie, let's not kid ourselves. A kick's a kick, but don't think your little bubble stunt even comes close to Blaziken's Fire Spin combo."
She leaned back with an air of mock triumph, crossing her arms smugly. "But hey, you get points for effort. Just don't let it go to your head, Bubble Kicker."
Dawn's pouty silence was met with May's laughter, the teasing giving way to genuine warmth. "Alright, you win this round. But seriously, great performance out there. You've got talent, Dawn. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
Dawn's smile returned, bright and infectious as she held up a cheerful V-sign. Piplup mimicked her pose, puffing out its chest proudly. "Thanks, May! Your performance with Blaziken was amazing too. Ash and I couldn't stop cheering from the stands."
May's cheeks colored faintly as she rubbed the back of her neck, her voice softening. "That means a lot, Dawn. And hey, those whirlpools of yours? Pure genius. You and Piplup are in perfect sync. How do you pull it off?"
Dawn laughed, scratching Piplup's head affectionately. "It's not all glamor! We've had plenty of mishaps along the way—like when I got swept up by the Whirlpool during practice. I was mortified!"
May's eyes widened, her laughter bubbling up. "Oh no! That must've been a sight. Bet the audience loved it, though." She paused, her tone growing sincere. "But seriously, Piplup and you trusted together completely, and that's what matters."
May's eyes drifted to Dawn, taking in her stunning Palkia-inspired dress. The dress shimmered faintly under the soft lighting of the lounge, its colors dancing as she moved. May couldn't help but admire the elegance of it—especially how it seemed to carry the essence of both performance and style.
"And that dress… wow. The colors, the shape, the style... everything about it screams 'starry elegance' straight out of a cosmic fairytale! Where in the world did you find it?"
Dawn smirked, striking a playful pose. "The Queen of Space and Bubbles must look the part, right? You haven't even seen my other dress yet." She leaned forward, her grin turning mischievous. "Jealous?"
May tilted her head, a playful smirk dancing on her lips as she leaned back into the couch, her sapphire eyes twinkling with mischief. "Playing the cosmic queen, huh ? Seriously, though, did you design it yourself? Or do you have a personal seamstress who weaves stardust into fabric?"
"Surpriiise.."
The brown haired woman raised her hands in mock surrender, her expression half amused, half impressed.
"Oh, you're so evil, Dawn."
The Sinnoh coodinator burst into a playful, exaggerated laugh, her voice taking on a theatrical edge as she clasped her hands together dramatically. She leaned forward, her smirk teasing as she stared at May with mock menace.
"Muhahaha! Evil? Would you describe me as the devil herself if I told you that my cursed stylisher crafted these masterpieces? Oh, they hold secrets, curses, and spells of cosmic glamour woven into every thread! Beware, May... the power of fashion will consume you."
She threw her head back with an exaggerated cackle, making her dress shimmer under the light as she struck another playful pose. Her voice carried a perfect balance of humor and mock villainy.
May chuckled, holding her hand up to her forehead in dramatic flair, pretending to swoon.
"Ahhh! I knew it. I knew there was a dark force at work behind all these outfits. Well, I'll admit it—I'm intrigued. This is no ordinary wardrobe. This has.. power."
Dawn let out another light-hearted laugh, waving her hand dismissively as her smirk softened into a more friendly grin. Her playful teasing seemed to have lightened the mood even further.
"Okay, okay, seriously though. My fashionista is around somewhere... I could introduce you to her if I can find her. She's the real mastermind behind these looks. She's got more style secrets than a Legendary Pokémon has legends. Trust me, you'll want to meet her if you ever get the chance."
She placed a hand thoughtfully against her chin, her eyes scanning the lounge as if she were trying to spot her elusive stylist at that very moment.
"I'll try to catch her when I get the chance. She's always busy in her little corner of the galaxy… or, well, on the stars above. But don't worry—I'll introduce you… if you can handle her eccentric genius."
May grinned, intrigued by the notion and leaning back on the couch with a relaxed, confident smile.
"Another genius to meet."
The conversation was interrupted when Dawn's gaze shifted across the lounge. Spotting Chloe sitting in a quiet corner with a book, Dawn's face lit up. "Chloe! Hey, no hiding in the corner—you're part of the fun too!"
The youngest coordinator looked up, startled but amused, setting her book aside. Her calm demeanor was a stark contrast to Dawn's infectious energy. Chloe's neatly arranged burgundy hair, tied into a low bun with delicate floral clips, framed her face with an air of elegance. Her vivid green eyes reflected a quiet reflexion, and her soft beige sweater vest, layered over a crisp white shirt, gave her an academic yet casual appearance on this room full of people in extravagant clothes.. As if to be discreet, the wore simple yet stylish blue jeans, the snug fit emphasizing a relaxed but polished look.
"Oh, hi, Dawn. Didn't think anyone would notice me over here. You've got Braviary's eyes, huh?"
May smirked, leaning forward with a teasing grin. "Nice try, Chloe, but no escaping now. You're officially caught in Dawn's whirlwind."
Dawn marched over, playfully ruffling Chloe's hair. "No hiding, no excuses! We're all in this together."
Chloe laughed, brushing Dawn's hands away and smoothing her hair. "Okay, okay! Geez, you're as relentless as ever."
Dawn grinned, crossing her arms proudly. "Relentless, huh? I call it dedication. And look at you—Chloe! You've come a long way from when we first met."
The Galar performer blushed slightly, shrugging modestly. "I guess so. Eevee and I are figuring things out as we go. It's a little overwhelming sometimes, though."
"Overwhelming?" May chimed in, her tone encouraging. "Chloe, you're doing amazing. Don't let Dawn's over-the-top energy intimidate you."
Dawn winked, striking a confident pose. "Hey, I'm not intimidating. I'm inspiring!"
Chloe chuckled softly, her smile turning more genuine as she relaxed. "Alright, fine. I'll admit… your performance earlier? It was incredible. The way you and Piplup handled those whirlpools—it was like watching water come to life. I was blown away."
Dawn's eyes sparkled with pride, her grin widening. "Thanks, Chloe! Piplup and I worked hard to make it unforgettable. I think the outfit also helped make it even more memorable!"
The Eevee coordinator nodded to her model, her gaze drifting to the shimmering gown. "Definitely. You looked like you stepped straight out of the legendary Palkia himself! It's no wonder you stole the show."
May leaned back, watching the exchange with a fond smile. "You see, Chloe? That's the kind of confidence to aim for. But calm down on the superlatives with her or Dawn risks imposing a copyright on Cosmic Deity for herself in her ego trip."
Dawn chuckled, a spark of confidence in her eyes, contrary to Chloe who hesitated, her fingers nervously toying with the small ribbon she won for the first time some years ago. The younger girl's voice softened as she spoke, her words tentative but laced with admiration.
"But you know what really caught my attention? After your performance… when you were near the stands. I saw you on the big screen, and your smile—it wasn't just a smile. It was like… you were glowing. For a moment, it felt like you lit up the entire stadium." She glanced down, rubbing her arm, her voice faltering. ""I mean, it might sound strange, but… I've been wondering—how do you do it? How do you smile like that so easily in front of everyone? It feels so natural for you. For me, it's… impossible."
Chloe's words hung in the air, tinged with both curiosity and an unintentional touch of envy. She looked up at Dawn, her gaze searching but without expectation.
Dawn leaned back slightly, her expression thoughtful. Her tone was light at first, almost dismissive. "Honestly, it's just experience. The crowd's energy, performing with my Pokémon—it's exhilarating ! Their smiles and cheers make it all worth it and..."
Her voice slowed, and her gaze drifted as if pulled by an invisible thread to a distant memory. She recalled a familiar, boisterous voice cutting through the noise of the stadium—Ash's voice, loud and unfiltered, calling out encouragement just when she needed it. That moment had shifted her mood.
For a fleeting second, her smile faltered, replaced by a look of quiet nostalgia. Then she snapped back, her smile bright but tinged with something more. "It's not something I plan. It just… happens. When the moment feels.. right."
She glanced at May, a subtle look passing between them. "You know what I mean, right?"
May tilted her head, studying Dawn with an almost knowing smile. Her eyes glimmered faintly under the lounge lights, as though reflecting her own memories. "Yeah, I do. Sometimes, it's like everything falls into place. The crowd, your Pokémon, even the atmosphere—it all just clicks. And in that moment, you can't help but smile. It's not for looking good. It just feels… right."
May sat back, stretching her arms over the couch, her tone easy but thoughtful. "It's rare, but when it happens, you know it."
Dawn's smile returned, now softer and more assured. "Exactly."
As the two shared their understanding, a cheerful voice broke through the conversation.
"Mind if I join?"
Serena approached with a bright, welcoming smile. Her elegant figure seemed to glow in the soft lounge lights as she waved, her presence instantly lifting the mood. Dawn and May's faces lit up as they turned toward their friend.
"Serena!" May greeted her with a grin. "Of course, join in. We were just talking to Chloe about that feeling—when everything clicks during a performance."
Dawn nodded, her tone warm and animated. "You know the one—when you're completely connected to your Pokémon, the crowd, and the moment itself."
Serena's eyes sparkled with understanding as she settled into the conversation. "Oh, I know exactly what you mean. For me, it's about imagining the people who matter most to me. Just thinking of their support and love—it's like magic. It makes everything else fade away."
Her words carried the weight of personal experience, and she turned her gaze to Chloe, who was quietly observing from the side, her hands resting on Eevee's soft fur.
"Chloe," Serena said gently, her smile softening, "you should try that. Close your eyes and think about someone who makes you feel safe and happy. Picture their face, hear their voice. It really does help."
Chloe hesitated, her hands fidgeting as she glanced at Eevee. Her voice was quiet, laced with self-doubt. "I've tried, but it always feels… forced. Like I'm pretending. I think about my family or my Pokémon, but it never feels… natural on stage."
Dawn stepped in, her voice steady and kind as she placed a reassuring hand on Chloe's shoulder. "Hey, don't overthink it. Your smile doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't have to be anyone else's. The most important thing is that it's yours. Just be yourself—that's more than enough."
Chloe blinked, the tension in her shoulders easing as Dawn's sincerity reached her. She took a deep breath, glancing down at Eevee with a tentative smile. "Maybe you're right. I'll try."
Dawn's grin turned mischievous as she leaned closer, cupping her cheeks with her hands to exaggerate her own smile. "Like this! Just give them a big, goofy grin! Works every time!"
Chloe flushed pink, her hands darting to her face as she laughed in flustered protest. "Dawn! That's not fair!"
Serena let out a soft laugh at the playful exchange, her tone warm and friendly as she stepped forward, exuding her usual calm, polished confidence.
"Dawn, I've got to say—your performance was wonderful. Honestly, you could become a top-tier showcase performer if you wanted. That energy, that confidence—it's pure magic."
Dawn's face lit up at the compliment, her smile genuine as she rubbed the back of her neck, a hint of shyness breaking through her usual poise.
"Thanks, Serena! But Chloe and her Eevee deserve some of that praise too. Scoring 46 points like May? That's just as amazing as Piplup and me out there!"
Before the moment could settle into sentimentality, May swooped in with her characteristic flair, throwing an arm dramatically around Serena's shoulders. She leaned in with an exaggeratedly confident grin, her voice dripping with theatricality.
"Ahhh, congrats to us for surviving that whirlwind of performances! But let's be real here… Serena, we're maybe doomed."
She tossed her head back in mock despair, pulling Serena closer as though sharing in her tragic plight. Serena's laugh was light and infectious, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she played along.
"Oh no, May, don't say that! We'll be fine—probably. I mean, you and Chloe at least."
Chloe frowned slightly, her arms crossed as she looked between the three of them. Her tone was more serious, though still gentle.
"D-Don't joke about that. I really want everyone to qualify for the top sixteen. It's important to me. I don't want to see anyone left behind—I want us all to make it."
Her earnest words hung in the air, momentarily softening the playful energy. The three exchanged glances, their expressions shifting to one of quiet understanding.
May broke the silence with a grin, placing a hand over her chest in mock solemnity. "Alright, Chloe, no eliminations accepted."
Dawn chuckled lightly, her earlier dramatics tempered by Chloe's sincerity. Serena offered Chloe a small, reassuring smile, her expression warm and encouraging.
The conversation naturally shifted as all eyes turned toward the TV screen. The performance stage still glowed brightly, and the buzz of excitement in the room grew. Only one participant remained to perform, and the tension was palpable.
The speakers crackled to life, and the announcer's voice filled the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to our final contestant of the day... Jesseelina!"
The camera panned to the stage, unveiling Jesseelina in all her theatrical glory. Her outfit didn't lack the gothic sophistication, draped in sleek with a floor-length gown that combined deep violet and shimmering black clung to her form with sinuous elegance..
The bodice, adorned with obsidian scales that seemed to undulate like a living thing, plunged daringly low, while the skirt flared out into jagged, serpentine tails that swirled with every movement. Over one shoulder, a sheer cape of violet silk flowed like liquid poison, fastened with a brooch shaped like Seviper's menacing fangs.
Her purple hair, styled in a towering swirl, was streaked with amethyst highlights and crowned with a tiara resembling Seviper's tail blade. Her makeup was just as striking—dark eyeliner that winged out like a predator's gaze, smoky eyeshadow blending into shades of purple, and bold, venom-red lipstick that completed the look.
Seviper slithered beside her, its polished scales gleaming with an oil-slick sheen, its piercing eyes scanning the audience like a predator sizing up its prey. Jesseelina's every step was deliberate, her heels clicking against the stage with commanding authority as she twirled dramatically.
Dawn's eyes widened slightly as she leaned closer, her voice tinged with surprise. "No way...?"
Serena crossed her arms, her brow furrowing in thought. Her lips curved into a small, contemplative pout. "She definitely has a… unique vibe, doesn't she?"
Chloe leaned forward, her gaze fixed intently on the screen. Eevee perched on her lap, mirroring her curiosity with wide, attentive eyes. "Her style is... different. It's hard to not being curious."
Dawn tilted her head, scrutinizing the performance with a mix of curiosity and admiration. "One thing I respect about her? She uses Pokémon that aren't exactly typical for contests. That takes guts."
May smirked, propping her chin on her hand as she watched Jesseelina twirl with dramatic flair. Her Seviper moved in perfect synchrony, its presence both graceful and commanding.
"That Seviper is a statement, all right. She knows exactly how to grab attention—and hold it."
Serena leaned back slightly, her expression shifting to one of amused admiration. Her lips curved into a knowing smile as she remarked, "She's always had a thing for shock value. It's practically her signature."
May chuckled, her eyes glinting with mischief as she draped an arm over the back of the couch. "Oh, come on, remember when she sent out Wobbuffet in a Contest? Now that was peak entertainment. The audacity!"
Dawn burst into laughter, her giggles infectious as they rippled through the group. "Good times, honestly. But… this? This performance? It's nothing like the original Jessilina. She's stepped it up big time."
Serena tilted her head, her eyebrow quirking with a playful curiosity. "Wait, are we talking Jessilee?"
May gasped dramatically, her grin widening as she tapped her chin, clearly savoring the joke. "No, no! More like… Jessebella? Jessadia? Jessa-something."
Dawn rolled her eyes, placing a hand over her chest with mock exasperation. "Whatever. I officially have Jessiphobia now."
Chloe, usually reserved, couldn't help to show a rare spark of mischief lighting her face. "Jessimagic?"
May clapped her hands once, declaring triumphantly, "Jessitastic!"
Serena nodded, her lips curling into a sly smile as she chimed in, "Jessicentric."
May pointed at Serena with an exaggerated snap of her fingers, eyes gleaming. "That's the one! Jessicentric—it's perfect!"
Their laughter erupted, the lighthearted banter filling the room with infectious energy. Even Chloe, despite her usual quiet nature, found herself caught up in the hilarity.
As the laughter ebbed, their attention naturally shifted back to the glowing TV screen. Jesseelina had the spotlight firmly in her grasp, her Seviper's every slithering move precisely timed to highlight its sleek, venomous elegance. The routine was bold, stylish, and astonishingly seamless.
Then came the finale—The climax of the routine was nothing short of spellbinding. Jesseelina raised her arms, her cape spreading like the wings of a shadowed angel, and a cascade of shimmering black and violet glitter rained down from above, enveloping the stage in an otherworldly haze. Seviper, perfectly poised, rose high on its coils, its tail striking the air with a sharp, electrifying crack. As the glitter settled, Jesseelina lowered her arms with a flourish, her piercing gaze locking with the audience as if daring them to look away.
The stage lights dimmed just enough to frame her and Seviper in an eerie, magnetic glow, their silhouettes radiating power and allure.
Dawn's earlier grin softened, replaced by an expression of genuine awe. She leaned forward slightly, her voice quieter but filled with respect. "Without joking… her show was good. Actually, really good."
Serena crossed her arms, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, I shouldn't have joked about her names earlier. She's got a glamorous style that's hard to ignore."
Dawn tilted her head, her gaze flitting to the screen where the judges were now visible, their expressions unreadable. "Oh… aren't they going to announce her score?"
May's smirk returned as she tilted her head thoughtfully. "They're probably holding off to milk the suspense. Classic drama move, right?"
Chloe groaned, throwing herself back against the couch. "Ugh, I hate this kind of suspense! Just give us the scores already!"
Serena smiled faintly, her voice soft but laced with hope. "I think it's time. We're finally going to know the answer!"
All four of them leaned in closer to the TV, the tension in the air palpable as the camera panned to the scoreboard. The room fell silent, anticipation tightening around every others coordinators like a coiled spring. Who would make it to the top 16? All eyes locked onto the TV, almost pleading the presentators of the contest to bring the results fast.
The room hummed with a mix of excitement and tension as the TV screen displayed a vibrant stage. Marian and Monsieur Pierre, the charismatic announcers of the World Grand Contest, stood side by side, their elegant attire glimmering under the stage lights. Marian held her microphone with poise, her voice warm and inviting as she spoke.
"Pierre, tonight has been nothing short of extraordinary. These coordinators have truly brought their A-game, and it's been a feast for the eyes and heart alike."
Monsieur Pierre twirled his cane dramatically, the crystals embedded in it catching the light. He smiled with his usual theatrical flair.
"Ah, mais oui! The elegance! The passion! Each coordinator has proven that they are stars in their own right. But now, only the crème de la crème can ascend to the next chapter of this grand spectacle! It is time.. for the moment that will make this night unforgettable—the announcement of our top sixteen coordinators!"
With a flick of his hand, Pierre conjured a trail of golden sparkles that swirled into the shape of a countdown clock.
As he started his hand trick again, the lights dimmed on the stage, and a countdown began on the screen. The numbers ticked down, and the tension in the lounge skyrocketed. Coordinators leaned forward, whispers passing through the group like an electric current. The air felt heavy with unspoken pressure, and even the four girls—Dawn, Serena, May, and Chloe—found themselves caught in the rising tension.
Chloe instinctively reached for Serena's arm, holding it lightly. Serena glanced at her but said nothing, her focus entirely on the screen. Her fingers clenched into fists, the determination in her eyes unwavering despite the nerves bubbling beneath the surface.
Finally, the countdown hit zero.
The countdown ended with a flourish, and Monsieur Pierre appeared once again on the screen, surrounded by swirling gold and silver sparkles.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the moment of truth has arrived! Allow me to reveal the top sixteen who have dazzled us tonight. Each name shall be announced with the grandeur they deserve!"
A soft orchestral melody played in the background as the first name appeared.
"In 1st place, with coordination and style that transcends the ordinary, we have... Lisia!"
The screen erupted with an image of Lisia, her radiant smile accompanied by her final score of 49 points. The crowd in the stadium exploded into cheers so loud that the coordinators in the lounge could feel the vibration of the excitement.
"In 2nd place, a name synonymous with grace and water elegance, Wallace! Scoring 48 points, he remains the epitome of beauty in motion!"
The lounge murmured with surprise. Wallace had been widely expected to claim the top spot, but the unexpected ranking brought a pleasant buzz.
"Taking 3rd place, a rising star with exquisite charm and precision… Miette!"
The room fell silent for a moment as Miette's name appeared with her score of 48 points, tied with Wallace. The shock was palpable. Miette had often been in Serena's shadow in Kalos, but this performance proved she was no mere understudy. Serena clapped politely, though her mind remained laser-focused on her own standing.
"And now, in 4th place, with a captivating display of creativity and connection with her Pokémon… Dawn!"
The screen displayed Dawn's smiling face alongside Piplup, adorned by bubbles and stars with their score of 47 points.
"Oh, Piplup... chocolate medals! We were so close to the top three!"
Her lighthearted tone carried a hint of genuine frustration as she stuck her tongue out. Piplup, sitting on her lap, chirped indignantly.
"In 5th place, a young man whose talent knows no bounds—Drew! With 47 points, his elegance and precision continue to impress."
As Drew's name appeared, complete with green floral motifs, May's eyes darted to Drew, standing at the corner of the room. True to form, he sent her a wink from across the room, causing her to puff her cheeks.
"Ugh, of course."
Her adorable pout elicited a giggle from Dawn, who nudged her playfully.
"In 6th place, with a unique energy and perspective, Zoey earns her rightful spot with 47 points!"
Zoey's image, framed by sharp streaks of red and gold, popped onto the screen.
However, Zoey was here, waving from across the lounge. "Congrats, Dawn! You beat me this time!"
Dawn turned to spot her friend in the crowd, raising her voice to yell back. "Almost the top five! But you were fabulous too, Zoey!"
Zoey winked with a sign of hand her old rival.. "See you later on the contest for the revenge!"
The rankings continued, each name unveiled with unique visual effects tailored to their style.
Nando's 7th-place announcement came with harp-like chimes and floral motifs.
Solidad, in 8th place, was surrounded by shimmering rose petals.
May smirked at Dawn, her tone teasing.
"Four Hoenn coordinators in the top eight! Not bad, huh?"
"Three Sinnoh coordinators already, so we're doing just fine!"
The tension in the lounge was palpable as the announcements continued. Each name revealed brought waves of celebration or crestfallen expressions among the gathered coordinators. All eyes remained glued to the TV screen, where Monsieur Pierre's theatrical flair and the shimmering graphics added a surreal touch to the moment.
"In 9th place, demonstrating exceptional skill and flair... Mei!"
Mei's name and image appeared on the screen, accompanied by a burst of colorful ribbons and a cheerful chime.
May, who had been leaning forward eagerly, froze for a moment.
"And fiv—"
She caught herself, realizing her mistake. She froze mid-cheer, the realization dawning as the name wasn't hers.
"...Roh."
Disappointment flickered across her face, and her excitement deflated like a popped balloon.
Before she could dwell on it too long, Monsieur Pierre continued, twirling his cane with a flourish.
"Making a notable mark with her unique touch to the stage, taking 10th place... May with 46 points!"
The words barely registered before May's energy exploded back into full force as May's name flashed across the screen, adorned with a golden glow and a backdrop of blazing fireworks.
"Yeah! FIVE!"
Her shout was accompanied by her fists pumping in the air. She spun toward Dawn, a mischievous grin lighting up her face, and without warning, jumped onto her back.
"You heard, Dawn?! Five in the top ten!"
"M-May, don't—Waah!"
The pair tumbled to the ground in a heap of laughter, Dawn groaning dramatically while May cackled, entirely unbothered.
Meanwhile, the TV screen continued to reveal the results.
"Securing the 11th spot, with a mesmerizing performance, is Ursula! Scoring 45 points!"
From across the room, Ursula tilted her chin up with a self-satisfied smirk. She cast a glance toward Dawn and May, her lips twitching in mild annoyance as she saw the two clowns still sprawled on the floor.
"Unbelievable. Some of us have grace, you know. Honestly, how some people can't take this seriously..?"
Her voice was tinged with annoyance, but her smirk didn't falter.
Chloe, watching the scene unfold, moved toward Dawn and May to help untangle them. In doing so, she missed the next announcement.
"In 12th place, with dedication and a style all her own... Chloe!"
The room cheered again, but Chloe only realized what had happened when Dawn and May both sprang up and tackled her in playful celebration.
"Welcome to the top sixteen, Chloe!"
"Twelve! That's amazing!"
Chloe gasped, overwhelmed, but couldn't help laughing as the two coordinators playfully jostled her. Nearby, Eevee and Piplup danced in their own little circle, chirping and spinning with joy.
"In 13th place, bringing enthusiasm and charm to the stage, we have Kenny! Scoring 45 points!"
From her spot on the floor, Dawn's head shot up.
"That's great news for Twinleaf Town!"
She clapped her hands in relief, unaware that Kenny, who had been standing near the back, had nearly bolted for the exit before hearing his name. His shoulders sagged with relief, and he sank into a chair, visibly shaken but smiling faintly.
The announcements pressed on.
"In 14th place, with a flair for the dramatic and a showmanship that never fails to impress... Harley!"
May groaned audibly, slapping her forehead.
"And here's a bad news for me."
She scanned the room but couldn't spot Harley. She didn't need to—she could already picture the smug expression he was surely wearing.
As the room settled again, Monsieur Pierre paused for dramatic effect.
Finally, the screen lit up with the next name, and everyone in the lounge collectively held their breath.
"Almost last but certainly not least, landing in 15th place is our reigning Kalos Queen, Serena! Scoring 44 points!"
Serena's name appeared with a flourish of pink and gold sparkles, and the room erupted once more.
Serena froze, her breath catching in her throat. Relief washed over her in a wave so powerful it nearly knocked her off her feet. Chloe and May didn't hesitate to pull her into a hug.
"You did it, Serena!"
"Y-Yes... we did it!"
She smiled shakily, the weight of the tension finally lifting. As the three embraced, Serena glanced at the room. Her eyes fell on Shauna, standing quietly to the side, her expression tense.
Sensing her friend's anxiety, Serena gently broke from the hug and gave Shauna a warm, encouraging smile, gesturing subtly for her to keep her hopes up.
Dawn, watching the celebrations, felt a pang of emotion as she scanned the room. She saw the myriad expressions—joy, relief, disappointment—and thought of the sacrifices each coordinator had made to get here. But there was no time to linger.
"And now, ladies and gentlemen, the final qualifier..."
The room fell utterly silent, the tension so thick it felt as though no one dared to breathe. Every eye was on the screen as the final name was about to be revealed...
Ash leaned forward, gripping the edge of his seat, as the announcer's voice boomed through the stadium speakers, followed by a loud ripple of gasps and murmurs from the crowd.
A tie ? How often does that happen in these contests? he wondered, glancing at Goh, who sat beside him.
"Did you hear that?" Goh whispered, leaning closer to Ash. "A tie?"
Ash nodded, his brows furrowing in concern. "I wonder how they're going to decide who gets the last spot."
The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. Contestants in the waiting lounge looked visibly anxious, some biting their nails, others exchanging hushed speculations. The audience buzzed with anticipation, a collective energy of excitement and curiosity.
Ash's focus shifted when he heard a familiar burst of laughter and chatter from the far side of the stands. Turning, he spotted his Alolan friends waving and making their usual lively ruckus. Despite the seriousness of the moment, a grin tugged at Ash's lips. He stood abruptly, waving back at them.
"Wait… come with me!" he called over his shoulder to Goh.
"Where are you going?" Goh asked, scrambling to follow as Ash weaved his way through the rows of seats.
Moments later, Ash reached the Alola group, his heart lifting at the sight of their cheerful faces. Kiawe, Mallow, Lana, and Sophocles greeted him with enthusiastic waves and bright smiles.
"The jury seems like they're taking forever to decide," Ash said, settling into a spot near them. "I didn't think it'd be so hard to pick one winner."
Kiawe scratched his head, his expression a mix of bewilderment and mild frustration. "I thought these contests were supposed to be straightforward. How hard can it be?"
"It's like they're overcomplicating things." Mallow added, her brows pinched as she glanced toward the stage.
Lana squinted toward the large screen displaying the judge's table, her lips pursed in thought. "I hope this doesn't take forever. They've been deliberating for ages already."
"Maybe it's some new rule we don't know about..?" Sophocles chimed in, adjusting his glasses and peering curiously at the screen.
Ash scanned the group, his eyes landing on an unexpected figure sitting quietly among them. He blinked in surprise.
"Wait… Lillie?"
The platinum-haired girl turned toward him with her usual gentle smile, her eyes sparkling with delight. "Hello, Ash!" she chirped cheerfully.
Relief washed over him. "Lillie! Shouldn't you be with the other coordinators right now?"
Lillie shook her head, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "I'd rather be here with everyone. The waiting room's too tense for me."
Ash studied her for a moment, noting her relaxed demeanor. "You seem calm. Everything went okay?"
She grinned, a hint of pride in her expression. "Yep! I gave it my best shot. If I get eliminated, I won't be frustrated. There's no use worrying about it now."
Sophocles chuckled, nudging her playfully. "She's become pretty tough, huh?"
"Yeah," Mallow teased, her green eyes sparkling with mischief. "She's got nerves of steel."
Kiawe folded his arms, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "I bet she aced it. If the judges don't pick her, it's a total fraud."
Lana nodded in agreement. "We're all confident in your performance, Lillie."
Ash smiled warmly, his earlier concern fading. "Good luck with the results, then."
"Thanks, everyone." Lillie's voice softened, her gaze lowering slightly. "In any case, I'm more worried about how my brother and parents are doing with the wild weather."
Ash tilted his head, his curiosity piqued. "You haven't heard from them yet?"
"I've had some news," she admitted, her smile faltering. "But the connection isn't great, so it's hard to contact them consistently."
Before Ash could respond, a sudden noise from the stadium speakers caught everyone's attention. The crowd stirred, leaning forward in their seats as the large screen lit up with a countdown.
Kiawe nearly jumped out of his seat, clenching his fists. "Finally! Damn it, they're announcing the results!"
The excitement was contagious, spreading through the stands like wildfire. All eyes were glued to the screen as the final moments of the countdown ticked away.
Beside Ash, Lillie suddenly stood, her hands fidgeting nervously. "H-Hah, someone needs to drink something, right?"
The group turned to her in unison, their expressions ranging from puzzled to amused.
"No?" she stammered, her cheeks flushing. "A-Ash, I'm sure you're hungry! I can get you a snack!"
Ash blinked, caught off guard. "Well…"
"I'll get you a treat!" she blurted, already stepping away.
Kiawe raised a hand, gesturing toward the screen. "And the resu—"
"She's running away!" Lana exclaimed, watching as Lillie hurried down the steps, her platinum hair bouncing behind her.
Ash called after her, with nonchalance. "Lillie! Bring back a Soda Cool too if you can!"
Sophocles groaned, shooting Ash a look. "You're not helping!"
"I'll go get her," Mallow offered, already rising from her seat.
Kiawe pointed toward the screen, his voice rising with urgency. "You've got two minutes! Run, Mallow!"
As Mallow dashed after Lillie, Lana crossed her arms and sighed. "She wasn't as confident as she let on, was she?"
Ash couldn't help but chuckle, shaking his head. "I guess not."
Goh weaved his way through the bustling stands of the stadium, muttering apologies as he sidestepped eager spectators and snack vendors. The roar of the crowd was deafening, and spotting Ash's signature cap in the sea of people proved more challenging than he'd anticipated.
"Why does he always run off without telling me where he's going?" Goh grumbled under his breath, scanning the stands.
At last, he caught sight of Ash sitting with his Alolan friends, his unmistakable Pikachu perched on his shoulder. Goh sighed in relief and made his way toward them, only to pause when he noticed a scene unfolding nearby.
Lillie, her platinum hair catching the sunlight, was clutching a Soda Cool, looking flustered as Mallow cornered her near the edge of the crowd.
"Lillie, you can't just run away like that!" Mallow chided, her hands on her hips.
"I-I'm not running away," Lillie stammered, taking a step back. "I just thought about Ash might also.. need a sweet with his drink!"
"Then why are you heading in the opposite direction?" Mallow raised an eyebrow.
Before Lillie could respond, she turned abruptly to flee—only to collide head-on with Goh, who had just arrived at the scene.
"Whoa!" Goh exclaimed, stumbling back as Lillie recoiled in surprise.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!" Lillie blurted, bowing apologetically. "I didn't see you there, Goh!"
"I-It's fine, really.." Goh assured her, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm just—"
"Gotcha!" Mallow interrupted triumphantly, grabbing Lillie by the arm before she could dart off again.
"Mallow!" Lillie protested, her cheeks flushing.
"No more running. Thanks Goh for the help!" Mallow said firmly, steering her back toward the group.
"But I.." Goh, still a bit dazed, followed them back to where Ash and the Alolan gang were seated. He gave Ash a look that said, What just happened? but received only a sheepish grin in return.
As the group settled back into their seats, the stadium lights dimmed slightly, drawing everyone's attention to the large screen at the center.
"Finally!" Kiawe groaned, throwing his hands up. "The results are about to start!"
Mallow kept a firm hold on Lillie, who was fidgeting nervously, clutching her Soda Cool like a lifeline.
"Let go, Mallow," Lillie whined, her voice trembling. "I-I need to… I need to…"
"You need to stay put !" Mallow said with a grin, though her grip remained steady.
The countdown began on the screen, and the crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Lillie's panic only grew, her movements becoming more frantic.
"Um, Ash?" she blurted out, holding up the Soda Cool. "Do you still want this?"
"Yeah, sure!" Ash said, reaching for the drink.
But Lillie saw her chance and bolted, leaving the Soda Cool in Ash's hands as she darted away from the group.
"Lillie you..!" Mallow called after her, throwing up her hands in exasperation.
"She's fast." Sophocles remarked, adjusting his glasses as he watched her disappear into the crowd again.
Ash looked at the Soda Cool in his hand, gave it a quick sip, and immediately grimaced. "Ugh… it's warm."
"We've got bigger problems, Ash," Goh said, shaking his head.
The announcer's voice rang through the stadium, silencing the crowd with its dramatic tone.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer began, "the moment you've all been waiting for is finally here. We're about to reveal the last contestant to make it through."
The stadium held its breath as the announcer paused for effect, the tension almost unbearable.
"But hold onto your hats, because what's about to unfold is quite unexpected."
Gasps and murmurs swept through the audience. Even Ash leaned forward in anticipation, the forgotten Soda Cool balanced precariously on his knee.
"This is truly unexpected!" the announcer continued, sounding as surprised as everyone else. "Allow me a moment to share a few words. Today, we stand on the cusp of breaking a long-standing curse, thanks to the choices made by our esteemed judges."
A wave of anticipation rolled through the stands. Eyes darted between the screen, the stage, and each other as the crowd waited for the revelation.
"And now," the announcer said, his voice electric with excitement, "I'm thrilled to announce that the 16th and final qualifier is none other than… Lillie, a bright star hailing from the radiant Alola region!"
The stadium erupted into applause, cheers, and a few surprised gasps.
Meanwhile, Lillie, who had somehow wandered back near the group, froze in place. Her own Soda Cool slipped from her grasp, splashing onto the ground.
"What's going on?" she asked, her voice a mix of confusion and alarm with a subtle denial.
Sophocles pointed toward the screen, his excitement barely contained. "Lillie, look! The big screen!"
Lillie turned slowly, her wide eyes landing on the massive display. Her name flashed in bold letters, confirming her as the final qualifier.
"Why…" she whispered, her voice trembling. "Why is my name there? Is this a mistake?"
Before anyone could answer, Ash's Soda Cool tipped over in his lap on his celebration, spilling onto his pants.
"My Soda Cool…" he groaned, his face twisted in disappointment.
But no one paid him any attention. Lillie's hands covered her mouth, her eyes glistening with tears as the reality set in.
"I'm… qualified?" she said, her voice breaking.
Her Alolan friends swarmed her in an instant, pulling her into a series of warm, supportive hugs.
"It's incredible, Lillie!" Lana said gently, her own eyes shining with pride.
"You absolutely deserve it !" Mallow added, beaming.
"Don't cry, Lillie," Kiawe said, his voice rough with emotion. "this is.. just the.. beginning of your legends!"
Ironically, Kiawe was the one who cried the most, tears streaming down his face as he tried to maintain his composure.
Lillie, overwhelmed by the moment, could only nod, her tears falling freely as she embraced her friends. For once, she wasn't running away.
Instead, she stood at the center of the celebration.
