Hey guys, TheDoctor1998 here with another chapter! Last time, Cinder and the gang encountered the Squirtle Squad, with Cinder both saving and adopting their leader. Now, on with the show!

Once again, the gang had somehow managed to stray from Route 25, getting lost in the process. "We're lost, aren't we?" Misty sighed, clearly annoyed.

"I'm sure we'll find the road again soon." Brock said cheerfully.

"Man, Cinder, you're so lucky your Pokémon wanted to follow you without having to battle them." Misty said after a while, trying to change the subject.

Cinder frowned a bit. "Well, not really. Sure, I caught most of my Pokémon without a battle, but I did battle both Pidgeotto and Bulbasaur. Still, I prefer it this way. Don't really wanna force a Pokémon to be in my party against their will."

"Don't real trainers catch Pokémon on their own?" Misty asked with a teasing smile.

"It's not unusual for most trainers at this point to capture 20 or 30 Pokémon at this point." Brock stated, partially teasing and partially stating some facts.

Cinder only shrugged, not letting it get to her. "That just depends on your definition of a trainer. Personally, I don't like it to force a Pokémon to do something they really don't wanna do, which includes capturing them against their will. Besides, pragmatically speaking, it means I've got a lot more trust from my team than most trainers, and a bit more of a challenge to get some Pokémon in the first place."

Brock only smiled and nodded, agreeing with that kind of mindset.

Misty sighed in jealousy. "Man, how are you so good with Pokémon when you've only started a few months ago?"

"Lots of studying at Professor Oak's, getting lessons from him, and general bonding with both the Pokémon there and Pikachu." Cinder replied. Eventually, the gang managed to exit the forest, though all Cinder saw was the Auras of the trees suddenly cutting off. "Guys, where are we?"

"We're at a beach." Brock nodded. "Sunset's beautiful from this angle, though."

"I've gotta trust your word on that one." Cinder shrugged, before glancing down when she felt something brush against her leg. It was a small crab Pokémon, scuttling between her legs while it triggered Cinder's Pokédex.

"Krabby, the River Crab Pokémon. A Water Type.

Abilities: Hyper Cutter and Shell Armor

Hidden Ability: Sheer Force

Entry: This Pokémon lives near the edge of bodies of water, and it's commonly found on beaches where it buries itself in the sand. It can regrow its pincers if they're broken off."

"It's kinda small, isn't it?" Misty asked.

Krabby didn't seem to appreciate that remark, as he quickly walked up to Misty and shot a Bubble Beam straight into her face.

"What was that for?!" The redhead asked angrily, quickly grabbing a Pokéball.

"I don't think Krabby liked being called small, Misty." Cinder chuckled, with Krabby snapping his claws to indicate she was right.

Misty simply smirked. "You know, I don't have a Krabby myself. I think I might want to catch this one."

Krabby, in an act to cause a bit of frustration towards Misty while getting with a trainer he actually liked a bit instead, quickly climbed up on Cinder's leg and tapped on one of the empty Luxury Balls, getting sucked inside before the object got teleported back to Professor Oak's lab.

Cinder blinked in confusion. "Well, that just happened."

Misty only slumped at her failed catch, before her eyes caught something. "Hey, it's a lighthouse." The girl pointed at the building.

"Maybe we can ask whoever lives and/or works there where we are?" Cinder suggested.

"Maybe we can stay the night there?" Misty asked with a smile. "Sleeping bags are good and all, but they just can't beat a nice comfy bed!"

"And I'll ask whoever lives there if I can make use of the kitchen." Brock nodded. "Cooking under clear skies is okay, but it's way easier to make some of my more complex dishes in an actual kitchen."

The gang nodded with each other in agreement, and quickly went to the lighthouse.

The sun had already set when the gang had made it to the lighthouse, and fog had already started rolling in when they reached the door.

"Guess the lighthouse was a lot further than it looked." Misty commented.

"This lighthouse looks weird." Brock muttered, seeing various Pokémon native to the Kanto Region carved into the double door.

"Guess we gotta ring the bell." Misty said, slightly shaky from the spooky atmosphere.

Brock nodded and pressed the red button next to what looked like an intercom. The doorbell sounded like the bells of a church, which gave a few shivers down the spines of Brock and Misty.

Cinder, literally being unable to see the spooky fog and darkness, was completely unaffected. Aside from mild surprise at the keeper's choice of a doorbell, which sounded loud enough to be heard from the beach where she caught Krabby.

"Who's there?" A voice crackled over the intercom.

"Excuse us, sir." Brock politely started, trying to keep the tremble in his voice at bay. "We're travelers, and we're lost."

"Can we please rest up here for the night?" Misty asked, cutting in.

"Or at least use a map?" Cinder asked.

"And I was wondering if I could use your kitchen to whip up some food?" Brock asked. "I'm more than happy to make some for you too, of course."

"Sounds great." The man on the intercom laughed. "Can you cook without tofu?"

"Of course." Brock shrugged. "I can cook all sorts of things, with or without tofu. Are you allergic?"

"No no, but I've been eating nothing but tofu since my cook went on vacation." The man explained. "Please, come on in, make yourselves at home." The doors opened up with a deep groan, revealing a darkened and fancy looking hallway.

"Would you mind if I borrow your phone, sir?" Cinder asked, her voice echoing in the building.

"There's a phone right next to you." The voice said, over some internal intercom this time, causing the group to look over at a video phone whose phone part was shaped in the form of a Pokémon with the head of a pitcher plant and a stem-like body.

"Oh, that phone is in the shape of a Bellsprout." Misty said, noting the shape. "Cool."

"I'm gonna call Professor Oak, see how he and Krabby are doing." Cinder explained, also wanting to see how her other Pokémon were doing.

Professor Oak appeared on the screen, cooking something along with Daisy. "Well, hi Cinder! You caught me and Daisy cooking dinner. Our cook is on vacation, and we've gotta fend for ourselves until she returns."

Daisy cut in, her eyes rolling. "You mean I've got to fend for us both until she returns." She then looked straight into the camera, despite knowing Cinder couldn't see it. "Hey Cinder, how are you doing?"

"I'm fine." Cinder blushed, this being the first time she talked to Daisy since realizing she was gay, and subsequently realizing that Daisy was a stupid childhood crush of hers. "Just checking to see how my Pokémon are doing.

"Don't worry Cinder, your Pokémon are doing fine." Daisy grinned. "Both Beedrill and Clefairy are just hanging out around the range, socializing with some of the other Pokémon."

"Your new Krabby is also doing okay." Professor Oak cut in. "He's a bit on the small side though, especially for that species. Much unlike Gary's, his one is huge!"

"Don't you let him hear you say that." Daisy said, rolling his eyes. "You might make his head larger than that Krabby of his."

"Well, it is!" The Professor defended. "Just take a look!" He turned the camera towards the two Krabby in a tank, showcasing Cinder's small one and Gary's huge one.

"Wow, that is big." Brock muttered, causing Cinder's Krabby to glare at him through the screen.

"That makes about 45 species of Pokémon caught compared to your 14." Professor Oak said. "Still, even by just looking at how any of your Pokémon behave when they're here, it's clear that you've got the stronger bonds with them."

"Thanks, Professor." Cinder said bashfully.

"By the way, Cinder, where are you calling me from anyway?" Professor Oak asked. "I don't seem to have this number registered, so I know it's not a Pokémon Center."

"We're at a lighthouse on top of a high cliff, near Route 25." Cinder explained.

"Oh, that must be Bill's lighthouse!" Daisy recognized, blushing slightly.

"Ah, yes, Bill!" The Professor piped up. "He's a young researcher, about Daisy's age, and a real prodigy in the field! See what you can learn from him, he can teach you pretty much anything and everything humankind knows about Pokémon."

"This is Bill, Professor Oak." The man, Bill, cut in, likely picking up the phone from another room. "Good to hear from you."

"Hello Bill!" Professor Oak greeted joyfully.

"H-hey Bill!" Daisy stuttered with an even heavier blush.

"Hello to you too, Daisy!" Bill said, sounding like he was smiling.

"Would you mind giving Cinder and her friends here a little crash course with some of your knowledge about Pokémon?" The Professor asked before hearing a ding on his end. "Daisy, the tofu's done!" He exclaimed, blowing on the hot blocks of the stuff.

"See you later, Cinder!" Daisy quickly said, hanging up.

"Well, there's no way I can ignore a request from Professor Oak." Bill chuckled with admiration, walking into the hallway and turning the lights on, revealing an anthropoid Pokémon that they'd only ever seen generated images of, as it was supposed to have gone extinct millions of years ago. Strangely though, this member of the species was both far larger than any other on record, and wasn't triggering Cinder's Pokédex. "I am Bill." It introduced itself, talking like a human, much to the shock of both Brock and Misty.

Meanwhile, outside, Team Rocket was watching the lighthouse with their binoculars. "According to intel, that lighthouse belongs to the famous researcher Bill." Jessie explained to her teammates.

"Then I guess we've come to the right place." James smirked.

"There must be tons of rare Pokémon stored in that lighthouse." Jessie grinned.

"Then there's only one thing for us to do!" Meowth piped up.

"Sneak in, and take everything our grubby hands can hold." James answered.

"Well, it looks like it's either we go through the front door, or risk ourselves by climbing the cliffside." Jessie observed.

"Well, we can't very well take the front door." James scoffed. "The guy will see us coming a mile away."

"Climbing the cliffs it is then." Jessie nodded.

"A good thief always has to sneak in." Meowth snickered.

"It's time to rain on someone's parade again." Jessie looked over to her partner. "James?"

"Jessie." He smirked.

"We're back to back, so prepare for trouble." The two humans said in unison. "Watch your step, or we'll make it double."

"To protect the world from devastation." Jessie continued on her own.

"To unite all people within our nation."

"To denounce the evils of truth and love."

"To extend our reach to the stars above."

"Jessie!"

"James!"

"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!"

"Meowth, that's right!" The Normal Type finished the motto.

"To be truly great criminals, we've gotta do things the hard way." Jessie smirked.

"Only chumps and amateurs do things the easy way." James agreed.

"But it will be tough to reach the top." Jessie said, glancing at the cliffside.

"Thankfully, we've got some good equipment." Meowth said, grabbing some climbing tools. "So don't do nothin stupid, and you'll be fine."

"It can't be." Brock said in shock at seeing an extinct species of Pokémon. "It's a Kabuto!"

"What do you mean?" Cinder asked in confusion, seeing only a human shaped Aura. "He's just a human."

The "Kabuto" was waving its two frontal appendages. "That's right, I'm not a Kabuto." He chuckled. "I'm Bill, a Pokémon researcher."

"Erm, is there a reason these guys are saying you're a Kabuto?" Cinder asked, slightly confused.

"I'm wearing a Kabuto costume, and I'm stuck inside it!" The guy desperately said.

"Can we help?" Cinder offered.

"Yes, please, step up here!" Bill begged, indicating as best he could to himself.

Cinder quickly went up the stairs, making sure to be careful using her cane. "Just tell me what to do."

"There's a button just above my right leg." Bill explained, noticing her using her cane and quickly figuring out her disability. "I tried to press it before, but these darn arms are too short to reach it!" He wiggled his claws for emphasis, showcasing the major design flaw of his costume.

Cinder felt around the costume, and quickly found and pressed the button. The Kabuto costume quickly fell apart, the limbs being the first to go, with the shell and the black front splitting apart, releasing a dapper looking young man with green hair.

"Thanks for helping me get out of there." Bill said gratefully, quickly popping his back. "I've been stuck inside that thing for hours!"

"Did you come from a costume party?" Misty asked, curious as to why he was inside that costume in the first place.

"No, it's not for a party." Bill shook his head. "I use costumes like this one for my research. Getting inside a Pokémon's skin helps me get inside its head." He explained to the gang. "There are many species of extinct Pokémon, and I want to understand how they lived. Wearing a costume like that is one way of trying to figure out what they were like."

"So you can understand how a Pokémon is like by wearing a costume of it?" Cinder asked.

"Yes indeed." Bill nodded. "Or, at least, it helps me through the process of research. Makes me feel a little closer to them, you know?" He grinned at them. "Now, you guys said that one of you is a good cook, right?"

"Right here." Brock nodded. "I can whip up a few quick cheeseburgers with what I've got right now."

"Excellent!" Bill smiled. "As thanks for this and helping me out with that costume, you guys can rest up here for the night!"

"Thank you so much!" Misty smiled, grateful that she can sleep in a proper bed for the first time in a while.

After the gang and their host had some delicious burgers, courtesy of Brock, Bill led the gang to a room, the walls of which were decorated with pictures of Pokémon. Most of them were from Kanto, but Brock did quickly see several from other regions as well.

"This planet was created 4.6 billion years ago." Bill started, showcasing the room to his guests. "All kinds of Pokémon were born and, in some cases, rendered extinct during that time, with many having their every trace removed by time's ravages. They had many ways of living, each species distinct from every other."

"How many are there?" Misty asked in amazement.

"Hundreds, thousands, nobody truly knows the exact number." Bill answered as best he could. "And that's not even mentioning some of the more special classifications of Pokémon, or any alternate forms."

"Special classifications?" Brock asked.

"Alternate forms?" Misty also wondered.

"Yes." Bill nodded. "Some species of Pokémon are capable of having multiple forms. Sometimes these forms are permanent, such as regional variants. Other times they are temporary, such as Mega Evolution. But despite the differences, they are still the same species." He then motioned to the pictures, highlighting a Kabuto and a brown Pokémon with scythe-like claws next to it. "Some Pokémon are a bit more special, though, and deserve their own classification, such as the extinct Fossil Pokémon like Kabuto." He then pointed to an image of Ho-Oh. "Others are so extremely rare and powerful that they're given the classification of Legendary Pokémon, as not only are they so rare that it would be a once in a lifetime event to even see one, but their sheer power would also make it nigh impossible to even catch one. Some of these Legendary Pokémon are singular creatures, truly unique, with some even being considered actual gods that stand above even other Legendary Pokémon in terms of rarity and power."

"Like Arceus." Brock mentioned.

"Indeed." Bill agreed. "Of course, due to the sheer scarcity of proof that almost all of them have in the first place, there are many Legendary Pokémon that are considered nothing more than a myth. For a time, Mew was among this group, though scientists had managed to gather actual proof of its existence even before Professor Oak started on his journey."

"Really?" Misty asked. She knew that Mew were rare, but to be so rare to be nothing more than myth? That was a new one to her.

Bill simply nodded before continuing. "To make things even more amazing, is that there is evidence of Pokémon from outer space, alternate realities, and even other eras in history.

"Wait, what." Brock blinked… Or made a blinking motion with his perpetually closed eyes, anyway.

"Some species of Pokémon, like the Cleffa and Staryu families, are thought to have originated from outside our planet." Bill continued. "And we know that Pokémon like the Unown or even the Ultra Beasts live in realities beside our own, and there is even evidence of Pokémon from the distant past or future that have somehow appeared in the present, as shown in the Scarlet and Violet books." He sighed. "Of course, both the Ultra Beasts and the creatures shown in the Scarlet and Violet books are nothing more than a myth as far as science is concerned, with no actual evidence to back up the claims of their existence. And even with Pokémon we know of that are suspected to be not from this world, with the vast majority of them it is nothing more than a suspicion."

"Well, at least we know that there are some Legendary Pokémon that are definitely real." Cinder smiled, the gaze of her Aura shifting towards the feather in her bag, the traces of Aura from the Rainbow Pokémon still clinging on to it.

"The three of you are lucky to be trainers." Bill said. "You'd be able to encounter any of these Pokémon, which can be a great privilege." He glanced back to the pictures of the various species of Pokémon. "No one knows exactly how many Pokémon there are, with accounts stating there to be several thousand individual species. The search always goes on, and there's always something new to look for, in both our lives and in ourselves."

"Something to look for?" Cinder questioned, wondering exactly what Bill might be looking for.

"Yes, there's a lot for us to look for, both inside ourselves and somewhere in the outside world." Bill said enthusiastically, holding his arms open as he walked past the many pictures. "There's meaning for every creature, even if they can't find it themselves. A meaning for all Pokémon, and all us humans too."

"A meaning for all, huh?" Cinder smiled, glancing at the Aura's of Pikachu and her other Pokémon that were snug in their Luxury Balls, a soft smile gracing her face.

XXXXXXXX

Meanwhile, Team Rocket was climbing on the cliff to Bill's place. "Sometimes I wonder what the meaning of it all is!" Jessie grunted. "Why go through all this trouble in the first place?!"

"It's so we can obtain rare and powerful Pokémon for Team Rocket and the black market." James grunted.

"I'm all for it." Meowth commented, easily climbing the cliff with his claws. "Just as long as there's something in it for Meowth."

XXXXXXXX

Bill had led the trio to the top of his lighthouse, overlooking the foggy sea to show them something. "Please, keep looking for new Pokémon to catch and encounter. It's something that's vital for Pokémon research, making it as important to me as it is to you." He turned towards them. "Right now, though, there is only one Pokémon I'm looking for."

"What kind of Pokémon?" Cinder asked.

"It's probably the biggest Pokémon ever, bigger than anything else, yet unseen by human kind." Bill said. "Not a Dynamaxed Pokémon, but rather something more permanent. It supposedly wandered the world for countless years, looking for friends."

"Doesn't it have any friends or family then?" Misty asked, concerned.

"It wanders because it's alone, one of a kind." Bill answered. "If the rumors are true, this could be a newly discovered Legendary Pokémon." He started looking contemplative. "One night, I heard this strange sound from the ocean." He revealed, grabbing and pressing a remote, causing a recording from the noise he was talking about to ring from the lighthouse. ""I want to meet you." I know that's what it said, I just know it in my heart."

Cinder and Pikachu just gave Bill a strange look, though Cinder did have to admit that the noise did sound a little… lonely.

"Some time ago, I recorded a similar sound and played it towards the ocean." Bill continued. "A call for friendship, that I hope this giant will answer. And one day, I heard the same voice calling back to me from the ocean. Some day, that Pokémon might come here to seek a friend it had been looking for for so long." He broke out in a big grin. "I would be so happy to meet such a creature!"

"Are you going to try and catch it?" Cinder wondered.

"Why do I even need to capture it?" Bill chuckled. "Meeting it would be more than enough for me, and just a chance to study it would make my long wait worthwhile."

Then, the group heard the noise, and in the fog was the silhouette of something massive. Cinder saw a truly gigantic Aura of a draconic creature with a pair of antennae on top of its head. Cinder recognized the shape as belonging to a Dragonite. 'Certainly not a Legendary or the last of its kind, but definitely the largest Dragonite ever!'

"The signal!" Bill gasped as the Dragonite came closer. He pressed a button, causing the same noise to be emitted from the lighthouse as the lighthouse itself flashed in different colors, making the Dragonite emit the noise right back at it.

"It sounds like it's singing." Misty said softly, enjoying the melody.

"Would you care to dance?" Brock asked his friend, bowing like an old timey gentleman.

Misty was a little surprised, but quickly bowed in return. "Thank you." She chuckled as the duo started to dance.

Eventually, the Dragonite came closer, allowing the people on the lighthouse to see what it truly was while triggering Cinder's Pokédex.

"Dragonite, the Dragon Pokémon. A Dragon/Flying Type.

Abilities: Inner Focus and Power Within

Hidden Ability: Multiscale

Entry: This Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon can fly faster than the speed of sound, and can fly to anywhere on the planet in less then a day. It has a kind nature, and is known for saving people from certain death."

"I see, so you're a truly remarkable Dragonite!" Bill gasped, before smiling at him. "Dragonite, I know you've been looking for friends for such a long time. I wish to be your friend." He said, eliciting a smile from the giant Pokémon as he sang to him.

Down below them, Team Rocket had paused their climb. "What beautiful music." Jessie said, enjoying the giant's song.

"So haunting, yet so sweet." James smiled.

Meowth was about to say something along the same lines, when he saw the gigantic Pokémon and freaked out. "It's coming from that thing!"

"T-that's a big Pokémon." Jessie said nervously, watching as the giant Dragonite came closer and closer.

"So size does matter." James said, joking about a certain innuendo.

"Something rare and unusual." Jessie smirked before pointing at Dragonite. "You know what that means!"

"Quite right!" James agreed, grabbing a bazooka from their gear and aiming it at Dragonite. "Seems such a shame to aim at such a sweet creature." He lamented.

"Of course it's a shame!" Jessie smirked. "We've built our fame on shameful acts!"

"Go on, fire!" Meowth prodded. "It's all the shame to me!"

James complied, and shot at Dragonite, causing the giant to roar in pain and fear, and quickly swipe at the lighthouse with his claws, tearing the top clean off.

"Dragonite!" Bill yelled in worry.

"Butterfree, Pidgeotto, I need you my friends!" Cinder called out, releasing her bug and her bird. "Guys, protect that Dragonite from whoever's attacking him!" She then followed her friends out, not wanting to stay on something that could collapse any second now.

"Freee/Pidgeo!" The duo nodded, flying down below the lighthouse to see Team Rocket with bazookas, aiming at Dragonite as the waves the giant created splashed onto them.

"Do we always have to mess up everyone's plans?!" James grunted. "Even I think we may be going too far!"

"Quit complaining!" Jessie countered. "We can score big with this big Pokémon!" She fired, prompting James to do the same.

Butterfree and Pidgeotto had enough, both using Gust to blow the rockets back to Team Rocket, protecting the giant behind them as they did.

"We're blasting off again!" Team Rocket screamed as they were launched away by the explosion.

"Dragonite, please calm down!" Bill yelled to the panicking giant.

Unfortunately, Dragonite quickly spread his wings and started flying up and away, blowing away the fog as it went up into the clouds, vanishing from view.

XXXXXXXX

The next morning, Team Rocket woke up on the beach, far away from the lighthouse. "What in the world was that?" James asked, shaken by the sheer size of that Pokémon.

"One of the rarest Pokémon around." Jessie grunted. "Exactly the kind of Pokémon we're supposed to capture!"

"Well, we missed our chance." James shrugged. "But we can keep dreaming!"

"When our dreams come true, it's gonna be someone else's nightmare." Jessie snickered.

"After all, tomorrow is another day!" Meowth piped up, causing himself and his teammates to cackle as they walked away from the lighthouse, cutting their losses.

XXXXXXXX

Cinder and the gang had slept at Bill's place, taking some of the guest rooms which had thankfully been spared by Dragonite's panic. After a quick breakfast, once again courtesy of Brock, the trio stood with Bill once again by the cliffside.

"Hey Bill, do you know how that Dragonite has grown so big?" Cinder asked.

"I've got a few theories." Bill nodded. "There are some animals on this planet that continuously grow over the course of their lives, only stopping once they die. Perhaps this particular Dragonite has some kind of mutation that caused something similar to happen." He sighed. "Still, I can't be sure. I guess I just have to wait here until Dragonite chooses to appear again."

"I hope so." Cinder said. 'Though, I'm pretty sure Dragonite thinks the lighthouse was a trap. Poor thing.'

"Anyways." Bill smiled, turning towards the gang. "I recall you needed some directions to Vermilion City, correct?"

"Yes, thank you!" Misty bowed politely.

Bill quickly grabbed a map, showing it to both Brock and Misty. "We're around here, right on the edge of Route 25." Bill pointed at the map. "Just follow the dirt road from my place, and you'll get to the tail end of the Route, right next to Vermilion."

"Thank you so much." Brock smiled. "You have no idea how many times we've gotten lost between Cerulean and Vermilion."

"I can imagine." Bill chuckled, before pocketing the map again and pulling an envelope out. "Also, here's a little reward for the help and meal you guys have given me." He quickly handed the envelope over to Cinder. "They're tickets for a luxury liner that typically docks at Vermilion City, called the St Anne. Should be there by the time you've defeated the Gym Leader there."

"I, thank you." Cinder stammered.

"It's nothing." Bill waved off. "I've got enough money to spare, and you three really helped me out last night. Consider it a thank you gift, especially for that help with defending Dragonite from those hooligans."

Cinder and the gang smiled at him, and quickly said their goodbyes as they headed to Vermilion once again.

Back with Bill, he suddenly felt a powerful gust of wind from above. Looking up, he saw the huge Dragonite flying between the clouds, cycling his home with a nervous smile on his face.

And that's a wrap. Cinder accidentally caught a Krabby, and she and her friends managed to encounter both Bill and the giant Dragonite.

Also, to honor the original games more, I decided for Bill to give them the tickets to the St Anne instead of them being given by Team Rocket. Little alteration, but I thought it made sense considering disguises don't really work on Cinder to begin with.
