Chapter 560 Mystery Deepens

"

Today at St. Thomas had been a very strange day at work for Tara. Margaret invited her out to lunch and not just for a bite in the hospital cafeteria. She wanted to try a new Italian place in town. It was the first time Margaret had been friendly to her since she hiring her.

Tara would have made an excuse not to go, but she was intrigued by this sudden show of friendship from Margaret. She wasn't fooled for even a second that Margaret wanted to be her friend, but it could be fun to play along and figure out what Margaret really wanted.

It was a strange lunch. Margaret asked a lot of probing questions about her feelings about Dr. Namid. It was almost as if she were trying to get her to say something bad about him. That didn't make sense because she and Namid seemed tight. Tara suspected she was laying a trap trying to get her to disparage Namid so she could start some administrative bull shit action against her. She was exactly that type of person.

Tara decided to play it smart by talking up Dr. Namid as though she thought the man was the greatest surgeon to walk the face of the earth. The hardest part was keeping a straight face as she heaped accolades on him. Margaret seemed to lap up the praise and added some of her own. Tara immediately revised her low opinion of Margaret even lower. The woman was an idiot and a complete and total tool.

Tara was more suspicious of Dr. Namid than ever before following the fake friendly lunch with Margaret. What the hell could Dr. Namid be up to and what was Margaret's involvement? She had to be up to her black framed eyeglasses in whatever was going on.

Staying late to access the hospital computer system soon provided a deepening mystery. She knew that Dr. Namid had been doing a lot of surgeries on infants with serious medical issues and those babies were dying. Now she noticed that the babies had all had their bodies donated to Medical Research for Answers. A logical explanation might be that the parents wanted to further medical research into the genetic problems that caused their children to be born with serious medical conditions.

It was surprising that insurance companies would agree to pay for such high risk surgeries especially since the improvement to the infant's quality of life. She did a quick search of the parents. They were all wealthy, successful people who had come to Dr. Namid from all over the country. These people were dependant on an insurance to approve a risky surgery. As long as a surgeon was willing to perform a surgery, they could easily afford to pay for it.

How many of these infants was Dr. Namid experimenting on and killing? Why would the parents let this happen to their infants? And who was behind the medical research place where the bodies were going?

The rest of her research she could do from home where no one from the hospital could spy on her internet research. She went home, showered and after eating a chicken Caesar salad she'd gotten from the market a few days ago, she was ready to continue her investigation.

Tara used her computer skills gained from a summer job working in a law office doing research on companies and their ownership. It took more than two hours before she undercovered the owners of the research company. She stared open mouthed at her computer screen. Dr. Namid was president of the company.

That now made sense. Dr. Namid kills the kid and then uses the bodies for research. She was willing to bet the medical research company took those donated dead babies and sold them to another company.

The body supply industry was largely unregulated and once a body was donated, the company could do what they liked with it including selling the body for profit as long as it was precluded in the donation agreement.

Dr. Namid had a sweet business going. He charges a consultant fee, puts an infant through an unneeded surgery where the baby dies and then gets the parents to sign the body over for medical research where he must be selling that body.

The only question was whether the parents were paying Dr. Namid to kill their medically hopeless infants.
