Eaglepaw stirred, she had been in the medicine den for a moon, yet her wounds were still bad. They had become infected and had given her a fever. She didn't have enough energy to do anything. Rosepaw padded over, "You hungry Eaglepaw? Let me fetch something from the fresh-kill pile for you. She hurried off and returned with a rabbit, "Here". She chewed it up and gave it to Eaglepaw. Willowpool came over "How is she doing?"
"I don't know," Rosepaw said
"Don't worry, everything is going to be okay"
Rosepaw sighed
"Hey, why don't you go get some herbs for me, that'll keep you off your mind, 'and, hey, take Spruceleaf, he is good at carrying herbs. Rosepaw nodded and padded off to get Spruceleaf. Amberpaw came in the medicine den just as Rosepaw was leaving.
"What are you doing sis? Is Eaglepaw okay?" Amberpaw asked.
"Oh, just getting Sprucepaw to help me with herbs, and, yes she just ate."
"Ooh, Rosepaw, I know you like him, and he probably likes you too, I mean who could resist a young she-cat like you! You should tell him how you feel!" Amberpaw was nearly exploding with excitement hoping that her sister would finally confess her crush to Sprucepaw after all of these moons.
"I don't think he would like me back though," the calico she-cat said sadly.
"How about this, if he breaks your heart I'll rake out all his fur and use it in my bedding, does that sound good," Amberpaw said with a smile while Rosepaw stared at her in disbelief.
"But I don't want to you loose all you fur!"
"Ok fine, I'll go tell him myself"
"No! Amberpaw I'm going to become a medicine apprentice!"
Amberpaw stared at Rosepaw in surprise "You choose to become a medicine apprentice, I-I thought you were only doing that to help Willowpool."
"No, i really like this path, even if i can't have a mate or kits," she looked away
"Why can't medicine cats have mates or kits anyway?"
"Because they can't get distracted or help one cat more than another"
"But what about family?"
"Well yeah…" she said, unable to think of anymore explanations
Eaglepaw opened her eyes and groaned
"Eaglepaw?" they both yelled
