Chapter 7:Reunion
A/N: For the sake of the story, it will be in English although the tribe speaks Portuguese. Also! Due to some GREAT PEOPLE! I was able to get a lot but not all of my old stories back, so I will be posting them soon!
Carlos paced back and forth. It had been a whole hour and the village warriors had not returned.
Maybe they didn't make it he thought.
Just as he was about to give up, drums were in the air.
"Their back! Come on Maria! Let's go see!" Carlos exclaimed as he helped his sister up. The village doctor had patched them up and cleared them healthy enough to go home. It was a simple mistake; he and his sister had been playing when they got lost in the rainforest.
Carlos pushed through the crowd and stopped as he saw a procession coming through. Being carried by the tribe's strongest warriors was a man. A very tall man. He had long black hair, and a hairy chest, and on his ribcage was a tattoo of a leopard. But on his shoulder was a tattoo that Carlos had never seen before.
However, these details didn't matter when Carlos saw his grandmother. Chieftess catia. The strongest women in their village. Carlos watched in shock as his grandmother had to be supported by two of their warriors. She sobbed and said things that didn't make sense.
"It's him! He wasn't supposed to be here but it's him! He's alive!"
"Carlos? What's wrong with avó? ( Grandma)Why is she crying?" Maria asked.
"i- I don't know." He whispered. He still couldn't believe the tears in his grandmother's eyes. He had never seen her cry before and yet here she was balling her eyes out.
"c-carlos! Look it's the ghost women!" Maria pointed with a tinge of fear. Carlos directed his eyes to the woman being carried. She was skinny and paler. Almost paler than the moon. Her cheeks were sunken in and what looked like brown hair was caked in mud. Her body was also covered in bruises not to mention she was naked.
"don't call her that, Maria. She saved us, and so did that spirit man. Come on let's follow them."
The siblings made sure they were quiet as they approached the medical hut.
"Pai (Dad) it doesn't make sense! He shouldn't be alive! You told me he was dead! What other lies have you told me!" thier grandmother yelled at thier great-grandfather.
"Chieftess, please lower your voice you must have respect for your elders. Even when they are wrong." One of thier elders spoke.
"respect goes out the window when lies come bursting through the door!" their grandmother shouted at the elder. "now tell me the truth, Pai! Why is my son alive when I was told he was dead!"
Carlos and Maria gasped.
"did Avo say, son? Is that man Avo's son?" Maria asked.
"alright you two, I think that's enough spying" a deep voice chided.
Both children turned to see thier uncle Manuel.
"tio! Do you know what is happening?" Carlos asked.
Thier uncle sighed and gestured for them to follow him.
It didn't take long for them to settle in thier uncle's hut as he handed them something warm to drink.
" you two sit and I will tell you the history of our chieftess, your grandmother. It is a story of broken hearts and lost loves."
Thier uncle was silent as the fire crackled, creating a warmth around them that they had missed during their two-day journey in the forest.
"your grandmother was seventeen when she met the love of her life. He was from a tribe in North America, studying the ground or something like that. Anyway, she met him while he was digging up the earth. It was love at first sight. They spent every day together, so much time that your grandmother began to abandon her tribal duties. Your great grandfather Chief Dini, wasn't too pleased with the way your grandmother was chasing after this man. She had duties to attend to. But your grandmother didn't care, she was in love. So in love, she was willing to leave our tribe. However, Chief Dini wouldn't stand for that, he was ready to banish the man from our lands. But it never came to pass because your grandmother admitted to Chief Dini that she was pregnant and the outsider had proposed marriage to her. She said yes. Seeing that a child was now involved, Chief Dini allowed a small measure of mercy and allowed your grandmother to marry the man. As long as it kept your grandmother here. On the day your grandmother was to give birth, a massive storm hit our tribe and your grandmother's birthing hut was destroyed. When your grandmother woke up, her firstborn son and her husband were dead, swept away in the floods. Never to be found, at least that's what Chieften Dini told her."
"so...that man in the hut...he could be our tio?" Carlos questioned
Tio Manuel looked away and said "And my older brother but nothing is confirmed. You two go home and go to bed. Things could change in the morning."
...
Ten days later
Bella was dreaming, she knew she was. The sky was violet and the grass was a powder blue.
"I've been here before.." she said aloud. She often had this dream with the same landscape.
Leaning against a weeping willow, with a pond in the background was a man. The same man she had seen in her dreams a thousand times. His hair was long as always, and his chest was covered in hair that she loved. An intricate loincloth was between his legs as he lounged in the grass.
Of all the dreams that she had of him, this was the first one where his eyes were open and he was looking at her.
"Minha linda." He purred.
Bella gasped as electric blue eyes locked onto hers.
Those eyes.
She knew those eyes.
"Paul?" she questioned
"The one and only darling. You look...sexy." Paul purred.
Bella blushed as she looked down and noticed she was wearing a dress woven out of an unknown material. It had beads on the end and fitted her body perfectly.
"Minha Linda, come sit with me." He gestured as he patted the grass.
Bella joined him and felt her body hum as he caressed her hip.
"paul? What is this? What's happening? I've been dreaming about you for a whole year and this is the first time we've talked. The first time I've seen you as a man. I mean-"
Bella stopped as she gasped.
"You're the guy from the coffee shop!"
Paul grinned at her and smiled.
"took you long enough. I've been waiting on you minha linda."
"to be fair you were wearing dark shades and a ponytail plus a leather jacket that day and I was exhausted from chasing after you. Cut a girl some slack."
Paul chuckled and pulled her closer to him. Bella closed her eyes as the smell of chocolate-covered cherries filled her nose. It was her favorite fruit.
"so..what happens now? Where are we? Did we kill those vampires? And why the heck have you never introduced yourself to me?!"
"one question at a time. Well, if my instincts are correct we are brazil. We are in my mother's land. My father told me years ago that she had died but.. i had been having dreams about her. The minute I followed your scent into the rainforest I could feel the connection. The land was calling me. And yes we did kill the remaining vampires but at a cost. You are very sick Minha Linda, from the scent we believe it is pneumonia. I can only hope someone reached us in time. And in regards to introducing ourselves, we never got the chance You were always surrounded by the pack or busy in your day-to-day life. I didn't want to interrupt that. You were at peace with your life and I didn't want to interrupt that. I don't have the best of reputations back in Forks or La Push you know."
"Who cares about your reputation Paul You are a good man. A good person. You deserve to be treated as such."
"you don't know me or the things I have done."
"I don't have to know you to treat you right Paul."
Bella never got to hear Paul's reply because at that moment Bella awoke.
