I wake up to the sun in my face. I sit up and look around. I sigh a sigh of relief to know that, again, I am the only one in here. I get up, change out of my previous days clothes, and get ready for the day. I walk out of my room to find Kaname standing there, waiting for me.
"Kaname," I say slowly. "What do I owe the pleasure to?"
"I have come to talk to you about your request to move to the Day Class," he says. We stand in brief silence when Ichijo walks up.
"Lord Kaname, I have a problem that needs to be addressed," Ichijo says. "Good morning, Rose."
"Good morning Ichijo. It's been a while since we've spoken," I say.
"Grandfather never would let me come to your cafe, I'm sorry," Ichijo replies.
"It's alright, no hard feelings. Kaname, which matter do you want to handle now?" I ask.
"Yours is of importance to me at the moment," Kaname says. "Ichijo, will you wait a moment?"
"Of course, Lord Kaname," Ichijo says as he bows and walks away.
I roll my eyes and sigh. "I just don't fit in with you all," I say. "I never have. Not even when I lived with you and Ichijo's family. Although you were all... kind enough not to drink blood around me. I still don't fit in."
Kaname looks out the window briefly, then back to me. "I understand. That's why I'm allowing you to move to the Day Classes. However, you are to stay here in the Moon Dorm to help prevent our secret from coming out."
I look at him surprisingly. "You-you mean I can go to the day classes?"
"Yes, Rose. I want you to be comfortable here. I trust you enough, and with Yuki's help I think you will fit in."
I smile at Kaname, the only time that will ever happen. "Thank you, Kaname." Yeah, that;s the only time that will ever happen as well.
"Headmaster Cross gave you a few uniforms," he says as he hands me a package. "Class has already started for the day but he wanted you to go ahead and join them."
I nod. "Alright, I'll hurry there."
I go back into my room and change uniforms, and hurry to class. I find Yuki waiting for me at the gate.
"I came to show you to our classroom! It's so exciting that you're going to be a Day Class student now. But, don't be alarmed if the other students kind of... um.." Yuki trails off.
"Stare at me?" I say.
"Yes," Yuki says.
We walk to class while chatting up a storm. When the door opens, I notice the teacher immediately. It's Toga Yagari, the well-known Vampire Hunter. What's he doing here, I think to myself. I shrug my shoulders and walk in and sit down beside Yuki.
"Glad you decided to join us, miss Ioh," Toga says.
I wince, I know that tone of voice means I'm really late. "Sorry, Mr. Yagari," I say.
Classes continue as normal, not that I know what's really going on since I've never actually attended school. Yuki promises to help tutor me, though her friend laughed softly at that. Once the classes finish for the day, Yuki waves and goes to start her Disciplinary Committee work with Zero. I head back to the Moon Dorm before the Night Classes start. When I get to the lobby of the dorm, I see Hanabusa, Akatsuki, Ruka, Ichijo, Kaname, Shiki, and Toya sitting and standing, respectively.
"Rose," Hanabusa says as he stands and walks toward me. I take a few steps back as he gets closer. He stops and bows. "I'm sorry about what happened last night. I was out of line. I hope you can forgive me."
I look at Hanabusa and then to Kaname. "I know Kaname put you up to this. You're not the type to be sorry so... politely," I say. "I just thought you were different, I thought you were like me."
Hanabusa looks up at me. "We do the things we do here for Lord Kaname, Rose."
"Tch. Of course. Why must I ever forget that this whole world revolves around Kaname Kuran," I say as I get angrier and angrier by the second. "All of you bow down to him so freely, just because he's a pureblood vampire. But the minute I step into the picture, none of you are willing to help me!"
"Rose, this is not the time," Kaname says as he approaches me.
"No, Kaname, I think it is the time. I'm tired of being treated even worse than a Level E. I'm also a pureblood, and I deserve the same respect that you get!"
The room goes silent. I stare at Kaname in anger. Ever since my family died and I found out who I truly was, I have been overshadowed by him. But no more.
"Why didn't you just tell us you weren't being treated fairly?" Hanabusa asks.
"Because I wanted you to treat me the way you wanted to treat me, not because I was some... rare gem," I spit out.
Hanabusa doesn't reply. Kaname looks to Ichijo. "Ichijo, I would ask that you take the Night Class students to their classrooms tonight. I need a few words with Rose," Kaname says.
Ichijo nods and looks at everyone. "Come on, let's get going."
I stand still where I am, refusing to move. Hanabusa is the last one to leave. He looks at me for a moment, the walks away. I thought I loved him, and I thought he loved me, I think to myself. I shake my head and look at Kaname.
"Well?" I say.
"Come sit down. We have a bit to talk about," Kaname says.
I take a deep breath and sit down across from him, again.
"What is it you want to talk about?" I ask, a little annoyed. I just want to be rid of him, but I can never escape Kaname Kuran.
"No, I think it's you that needs to talk," Kaname says. I look at him, shocked. "You have never had anyone to simply listen to you, and for that I am sorry."
"You? Sorry?" I ask.
"I can be sorry as well," Kaname says softly.
I shudder. "I don't need, nor do I want, to talk to you, Kaname. You're part of my problem."
"I'm sorry to hear that," he says.
"Ugh, I don't want to hear that either!" I shout out. I take a deep breath to try to calm myself. "How about this. Since we're already talking, why don't you answer a few questions for me?"
Kaname nods. "What would you like to know?"
"Why does that Zero kid hate vampires?" I ask.
Kaname sighs and runs his fingers through his hair. "Do you really want to know?" he asks. I nod. "His family was hunted by Shizuka and killed, except for himself. They were the Kiryu Vampire Hunter family, as I'm sure you recall hearing about."
I stare at him. Of course I remember now. It was all the vampire gossip when I was living with Kaname and Ichijo, four years ago. "How did he survive?" I ask.
"I don't know that I'm at liberty to say that," he says. "But his family's death has given him nothing but anger and resentment towards vampires."
"Kind of like me," I mutter. "If it hadn't be for her I'd still be living a happy life with my family."
"They weren't your real family," Kaname adds.
"No, but they loved me unlike anyone has since then," I say hatefully.
"Rose, I-"
I quickly stand up and interrupt Kaname, too afraid of what he might say. "I think this conversation is over."
"I don't think so, I think it just started. But, if you would like to postpone any conversation until a later time I understand," he says. He stands up and bows. "Until we speak again, Rose." He walks out of the dorm, leaving me the only one left. I go to my room and cry. Why has all of this in two days time gone to hell? What is going on? I think to myself. I roll over on my back and stare at the ceiling. And why is there another student here who's family was attacked by Shizuka? Is this all Kaname's planning, or just fate? I close my eyes and rub them. I stand back up and go to the shower down the hall. Maybe I'll feel better after a quick shower.
It's the next day, and I'm late for morning classes again. I'm more of a noon person, not a morning person. I run like crazy to my classroom and bust through the doors to find the other students up talking to one another. I see Yuki and walk up to her.
"You missed the first class," Yuki says, "but it's okay. You're here for the rest of them."
I nod and take a deep breath. "I am so not a morning person."
"Neither is Zero," Yuki says.
Zero, the boy Kaname was talking about. I look around for him, but he's not here.
"He hasn't been in class for a couple of days," Yuki says. "He skips class a lot."
I nod my head as the next teacher walks in and class begins.
After class I decide to follow Yuki and her friend to study together in town. Everything seems so normal around them. Yuki knows my secret, but her friend Yori has no clue. I prefer it that way. People not knowing. We take a break and eat some ice cream, at one of Yuki's favorite shops. It's to die for. It's so creamy and smooth, my taste buds are dancing madly. When we get done eating, I walk out of the ice cream shoppe shortly before Yori and Yuki. I look around at the town and notice a water fountain just in sight of the shop, so I go towards it and keep my eye for Yori and Yuki to come out.
I look at my reflection in the water and sigh. My blue hair needs a touch up, my white roots are starting to show. I splash my reflection and look up for a moment when I notice someone standing across from me looking into the fountain as well. Or are they looking at me? I stare harder and my heart begins to beat faster. I know this feeling, I think to myself I take a step back, but I keep my eyes on the creature. Suddenly they make eye contact with me, and I see the true colors of their eyes: red. I turn around and make a run for it, trying to get back to the school. I feel as though I'm safe there, even though the only one who could save me would be Kaname.
I take a couple of turns and realize I am lost. My only hope right now is that I completely lost the vampire I saw. I walk down an alley and realize it's a dead end. I turn around only to find the vampire standing at the other end of the alley.
"Hello, little one," the vampire says.
I freeze. I've never encountered a vampire like this before. Is it a Level E? I think to myself. Between the dangerous look in its eyes and the feeling I'm getting from him, it must be. I've never met one before though, so maybe I'm wrong and he isn't going to kill me. What happens when a Level E drinks the blood of a pureblood vampire?
"I'm afraid I'm going to need your blood, little one," he says eerily as he steps closer.
I step as far back as I can until I run into the wall behind me. "St-stay away from me!" I shout, hoping someone, anyone will hear me.
"There's no running from me," he says as he bares his fangs. His eyes are blood red, just like Shizuka's were the night she killed my family. Just like Hanabusa's eyes the night he bit into Yuki's hand.
I scream and cover my eyes as he begins to run towards me. There's the sound of feet running on cobblestone, and then complete silence. I slowly uncover my eyes to see none other than Toga Yagari standing before me, with a pile of dust and clothes between us.
"Stand up, Rose," Toga says. There's no real emotion in his voice at all.
"Mr. Yagari, thank you," I say as I stand up.
"Why didn't you use your vampire powers to kill that Level E?" he asks me.
I shake my head. "I've never used my vampire powers before, I don't know what I have or don't have."
"You're the oddest vampire I've ever met. Come on, now, Headmaster Cross will need to speak with you."
I look at him. "Will need or needs to?" I ask.
"Does it matter?" he says.
"I guess not. Oh! But what about Yuki and Yori?"
"Were they here with you when you saw the Level E?" he asks.
"Um, no, they were in the ice cream shoppe," I say sheepishly.
"Why do you kids have to make life so difficult," he whines. He motions for me to follow him, and so we begin our journey back to the ice cream shoppe first. We find Yuki and Yori and tell them that Toga found me walking around. When Yori questions his gun, he says he never leaves without it. She lets it go, though, and we walk back to Cross Academy. Once we enter the gates, Toga basically drags me to Kaien's office.
"Kaien, here's your student," Toga says as he plops me in front of his desk.
"Rose, what is going on?" Kaien asks.
"I, um, got separated from Yuki and Yori after our study session, and I, um..."
"She was almost attacked by the Level E I was sent to kill," Toga interrupts.
"Yeah, that," I say. I begin playing with my hair nervously. "Look, I didn't mean to get separated from them, but I saw the vampire across from me at the water fountain in town and I freaked out and ran away."
Kaien looks at me seriously. "You know you could have been hurt, right?"
"Yes I know, but I also didn't want Yori to find out that vampires existed," I reply.
Kaien sighs and stands up. "Rose, trouble seems to follow you, doesn't it?"
I shake my head. "I can't help it, the world is out to get me."
"And I wonder why that is," Toga says while glaring at Kaien. They stare at one another for a moment before Toga speaks again. "I think it's time you tell her."
"Tell me what?" I ask quickly. "What is it, Kaien, what are you hiding from me?"
The doors open abruptly and in comes Zero. "What was I summoned for?" he asks.
I turn and look at him, then back to Kaien. "I was here first, I deserve the right to know what you're hiding from me."
Kaien looks between Zero and myself, slowly shaking his head. "The two of you are going to be the death of me."
"And me," Toga adds.
I put my hands out and shrug my shoulders. "Hello? Is anyone going to answer me?"
"No one cares, vampire," Zero says hatefully.
I turn and glare at him. "Oh yeah? Well no one cares about you either, mister," I say angrily.
"Both of you stop fighting," Kaien says as he steps between the both of us. "Rose, if you don't mind I need to speak with Toga and Zero quickly. I'll have to answer your question some other time."
I cross my arms. "Hmph. You're all the same. You all want to walk all over me and never help me."
Before anyone can interject, I storm out of Kaien's office and walk outside. The moon is already up, meaning the Night Class Students are in class already and I should be asleep. I walk back to the Moon Dorm, only to find the one and only Kaname Kuran standing there, waiting for me.
"Not again," I say as I slump over in defeat. "What is it now?"
"You met your first Level E today, did you not?" he asks me.
"Of course you would be the one that would know that," I say under my breath. "Yes, I was almost attacked by a Level E vampire. What does that have to do with you?" I ask.
"You could have gotten hurt, seriously hurt," he says as he approaches me. He reaches his hand out to touch my face, but I pull away.
"I'm fine, Toga saved me," I say as I walk around Kaname.
"You have powers, you know," Kaname says.
I stop and turn around to look at him. "Do you think I've ever used them? I don't even know how to use them, let alone what they even are."
"Would you like to know?" he asks me.
I go to speak, and then stop. Would I like to know? I mean, who wouldn't want to know what powers they have. But does that mean I'd have to train with Kaname? I really, really don't wanna do that. "I'm listening," I say finally.
"I or any one of the Night Class students could help you," he says. "All we would need would be a weekend."
A weekend? I think to myself. That doesn't sound too bad, actually. "I get to pick?"
"Yes," he says.
"Then I pick Akatsuki and Hanabusa." Hanabusa isn't my favorite person right now, but I'd rather see him than Kaname.
"I will schedule that with them," Kaname says.
"Can I go now?" I ask.
He looks at me and nods. I quickly run upstairs and to my room. Another long and busy day come and gone. Why do bad things keep happening to me?
