Metroid Star Rail: The Bounty Of Motherhood.

In the vast universe, the history of humanity is but a flash of light from a lone star. The life of a single person should be lost in space and time. But among the stars, there is one light that burns brighter than all others. The light of Samus Aran. Her battles extend beyond her life, and etch themselves into history. But...she was always... lonely. Through out her life she had lost 2 families... Her parents and the Chozo who took her in. Both of which were killed by her most hated and persistent enemies, The Space Pirates.

Remembering these tragedies always brought Samus pain, so she would try to focus on her missions. As a Bounty Hunter, honoring both her families by helping as many people as she could. She composed herself as she was on a mission to recapture an hidden facility... but for some reason the details were very vague and she was told whatever the facility did, it was outside of her need to know basis. The Federation had been rather short with her since she disobeyed orders and destroyed the space station with the X Parasites. But they still hired her, so whatever grudge they might have did not blind them to the fact she was still their best option for dealing with these messes... Or at least, that's what Samus believed.

Samus landed near the facility... which looked so well hidden she doubt she would've found it if she wasn't outright told where it was. But it wasn't hidden enough to keep the Pirates from finding it. Exiting her ship, Samus was suited up and ready. She headed inside, and as expected, dead bodies of the facility guards littered the floor... The poor guards never stood a chance against the ruthless pirates. Holding her arm canon up, Samus went deeper in to the base until the sound of doors being boken down was heard.

Hurrying over, Samus' suspicions were confirmed as she saw a large squad of Space Pirates trying to break in to a restricted area. Samus knew all to well that words would be wasted on these monsters, and only a fool would offer them a chance to surrender. Space Pirates are greedy and single minded, they'll die before they ever accept surrender. So without a word, Samus aimed her canon, charged it up, and fired it in to a Pirates' head, killing him instantly.

This of course got the other Pirates' attention, and all of them glared at their most hated enemy and quickly opened fire on her. Samus avoided the shots by running to the side, returning fire as she did. She killed a few of the weaker pirates, but the stronger ones tanked her shots with minor damage. Samus dashed forward, avoiding a swing from a Pirate's energy blade by leaping on to his shoulders and fired a charged shot in to his head, blowing it up. She began charging her canon again as she ducked under and attempt to grab her, kicking the other Pirate's legs out from under him before blasting him point blank in the chest, sending him flying in to a wall, he died from the large hole in his chest.

Heavy foot steps was heard and Samus looked to see a larger and more bulky Pirate walking towards her... This one was covered in strange glowing armor. Samus was not intimidated, as she simply raised her canon and fired at it, but her shots only bounced off. Well that was annoying, but Samus has always been creative so she avoided a strike that left a hole in the floor. Switching over to missiles, Samus fired several of them at the large brute, but it's shields absorbed the worst of the damage and Samus had to avoid several shots from the Pirate's canon... only to be surprised when the Pirate moved much faster than anything of it's size and bulk should've been able to, hitting Samus in the chest, sending her flying in to a wall.

Before she could recover, the Pirate grabbed her by the neck and slammed her in to the wall before roaring in her face... bad mistake as Samus took the chance to shoot it in the mouth, making it let go. Samus rolled in to her morph ball and dropped several bombs at the Pirate's feet, and the resulting explosions caused it to fall through the floor. Samus looked down the hole and noticed it was quite the drop, and the Pirate was now deep within the restricted area. Still, Samus needed to make sure it was dead, so she jumped after it. When she landed, she noticed the Pirate was still alive, but his shields were gone.

Refusing to give up, the Pirate charged at her again, but Samus calmly stood her ground as she fired one charged shot after another, hitting the Pirate in several vital areas. By the time he reached her, he was so badly wounded her couldn't even stand... But despite his already fatal injuries, he still reached his claws towards Samus, who charged up her canon one last time and finished him off with a shot to the head... Finally, all Pirates were dead.

Outside the small danger posed by the elite Pirate, Samus had dealt with the invaders easily enough, and she was supposed to just clear them out and leave. But she decided she needed to know why this place was so important. So she headed over to the door which lead to the most secure and secret labs. The door didn't stop her as she just blasted her way through it and headed inside... And what she discovered made her furious.

Everywhere there was screens with images of her on them. Showing they've been studying her for an experiment she did NOT approve of!

A surviving Scientist, possibly the one who sent out the distress signal, noticed her "Wait, you weren't supposed to come in here!".

Samus grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against a wall "Why? So I wouldn't find out you've been cloning me?!".

The screens showed they were studying Samus DNA, likely using blood samples taken from her after she was injured on one of her missions. And they were using her DNA to find a way to clone her, without her knowledge or consent. So understandably, she was very angry.

The Scientist struggled against her strong grip "W-We had no choice! You were always an amazing bounty hunter who completed missions without question... But when you disobeyed orders on your mission to the Biologic Space Laboratories research station, the Federation realized if you were ever to go rogue, it would mean disaster for the galaxy... So we were inspired by the SA-X to create a cloning project. The problem with the SA-X was despite it's great power, it was little more than an uncontrollable monster, so we knew we had to create a new clone from the ground up. Our we created a clone to replace you in case you fell in battle... Or kill you should you ever become a threat".

"How many did you make?" Samus demanded, her normally calm demeanor slipping a bit.

"Hundreds... But your unique DNA made them to unstable and died within days... We only succeeded in creating one stable clone by mixing other DNA in to the strain" The Scientist answered.

Samus' glared hardened even more "Where is it?!".

The Scientist points at a glass tank, and Samus tossed him aside before walking up to it... And saw a young girl with long, silvery-blonde hair with a teal ombre that reaches her waist, very fair skin, and when she opened her eyes, they were a mix of deep ocean blue and sunset pink.

Samus was aiming her canon. She was going to destroy the clone, believing her to be a soulless abomination like SA-X... But when she saw her eyes... She saw...a innocent soul. Samus felt something in her heart she hadn't felt in a long time... Instead of killing the girl, she decided to release her.

The Scientist looked up "Wait! You can't let her out yet! Her body isn't done maturing yet, she's still in her pre-teen state!".

"Meaning she still has a chance for a full life" Samus said as she released the clone from her glass container.

The Scientist tried to stop her, but Samus hit him the head with her canon, knocking him out. Once the clone was free, Samus gave her the chance to gather her herself. The young girl looked up at Samus with curious eyes.

"You are... the original?" She asked.

Samus removed her armor, revealing her blond hair and blue body suit "Yes, I am... You are safe now"

The girl looked down "While I was growing... I was told about you... I know who you are and why I was created...".

"That doesn't matter anymore. You are free to live your own life now" Samus assured.

"But how can I live a life I was not meant to have? Where would I even go...?" The clone asked.

Samus was silent for a moment "Do you want to come with me?".

The clone looked up in surprise "Really? W-Why would you want a clone made to replace you?".

"Like I said, what you were created for doesn't matter anymore. What matters is what you choose now" Samus said, holding out her hand.

The clone looked at her for a moment before accepting her hand and Samus picked her up, and carried out of the base. As they were leaving, Samus remembered something important.

"You need a name" She said.

The girl looked down "I don't have one...".

Samus thinks for a moment, before remembering a beautiful creature she saw as a child "How about, Firefly?".

The girl looked up again "Firefly...I like the name!".

Samus smiled "Then from now on, your name is Firefly. Let's bring you home".

They soon reached Samus' ship and took off. Samus knew The Federation would be furious at her for this, but she could deal with them later. As they were flying away, Firefly looked out the windows, in awe of the countless stars outside.

"It's so... beautiful..." She said in an adorably innocent voice.

"Maybe one day, you will have your own adventure among the stars" Samus said, a little amused by her clone's excitement.

"As a bounty hunter like you?" Firefly asked.

Samus shook her head "I chose this life because I had to. You have to decide what you want to be".

Firefly looked down in thought "Who I want to be...".

"You don't have to decide now. For now, live your own life, I will let you stay with me until then" Samus said, petting Firefly's head, making her clone smile.

Clone... That's what Firefly was supposed to be... But when Samus looked at her, she didn't see a simple clone, created from mixing her DNA with a bunch of other stuff... She saw something else. And the feeling in her heart... was similar to what she felt for the Baby Metroid she adopted a while back, who was sadly killed by Mother Brain... But the feeling was stronger for Firefly... maybe like... a parental bond?

Samus shook her head, she'll take care of Firefly but that doesn't make Samus her mom... Besides, Samus' last attempt at motherhood didn't end well... Samus sighed, facing evil aliens was so much easier, she wondered if this is what her parents felt when they had her.

Activating light speed, Samus' ship vanished in to space. Little did Samus know, life had it's way to force you to take on the roll of parenthood.

There you go, my second shot at a Hoyoverse story. The new Metroid Prime 4 Trailer pushed me to make this.

The story was inspired by my curiosity on how Samus would handle being a mom, and Firefly is rather similar to Samus. Seriously, these two have a ton in common.

Tell me what you think.
