Chapter 21: Lineage

Mount Justice February 28th 10:07 EST

Robin and Beast boy walked up to Nightwing who was going over something on the holo-computer. "Is that the intel from the Krolotean?" Robin asked Nightwing. "What Krolotean Intel?" Beast boy asked Robin. "The data files that M'gann and J'onn managed to recover from Malina Island before it was destroyed." Nightwing explained without looking away from the screen. Beast boy nodded while Robin put his hand to his chin in a thinking pose.

"According to this, the Kroloteans were snatching humans to experiment on them. They were hoping to find something, something inside us humans." Nightwing explained.

"Does it say what were they looking for?" Robin asked. "Not really. The best translation I could get from the computer was Meta-gene."

"What's a Meta-gene Robin asked. Beast boy opened his mouth and was about to say something when he was interrupted. "Never met a Gene I didn't like." Legend said as he entered the room drawing a chuckle from Nightwing and a pout from Beast boy.

"Hey, I was gonna say that." Beast boy wined. "Then you should've been faster." Legend said as he came up and ruffled the changeling's hair.

Warning: unknown energy impulse detected

The computer announced as clouds gathered over the mountain. Suddenly a large ball of electricity formed in the middle of the room. Nightwing gestured to the younger teens to stay back while Legend ran in front of all of them.

The ball soon formed into a strange machine that fell to the ground, smoking. The door on the machine clicked and everyone got ready for a fight. The door opened and more smoke came out.

Suddenly, a boy and a girl jumped out of the machine. "Ta-da!" They both shouted, the four heroes raised an eyebrow but stayed in their battle stances ready for anything.

The boy was Caucasian and had short reddish-brown hair, he wore a tan and red skintight bodysuit with red goggles with yellow lenses.

The girl had, Almond-skin and had curly black hair in a braid that went down to her upper back, she wore a light blue shirt, a black leather crop-top jacket, black spandex pants, black martial arts shoes, and a domino mask. She had a stylized F on her chest that was in similar design to Legend's symbol.

The alarm was going off letting everyone in the cave know there was an intruder. "Computer, lock down the cave." Nightwing said and the sound of several industrial doors shutting rang throughout the cave.

"Well, looks like we found our unknown energy impulse." Beast boy said. "Impulse, that's so crash. Catchy, Dramatic, One word." The boy said in excitement and very fast. He then sped over to the heroes. "Like Nightwing, Legend, Robin and Beast boy. Except that's two words. Hey, blue beetle's two words, is he here." He said all this while running up to each of the heroes and then down the hall. "Nevermind, Impulse can find that out for himself, hahahaha." He then continued to run down the hall laughing.

"You two take him down, now." Nightwing ordered, Beast boy transformed into a cheetah and ran after the now named impulse with Robin following him.

"We're, crash?" Nightwing asked himself then turned back to see the girl hugging Legend, her face buried in his chest and arms wrapped around his waist and keeping his arms trapped. Normally this wouldn't really matter because not much can hurt Legend, but it was clear by his face, which was slowly turning purple, this was not one of those times.

Nightwing quickly ran up to the two and tried to pry the girl off of his friend, but she had super strength, he couldn't just pull them apart.

Nightwing activated his shock gloves and the electricity helped him finally separate the girl from Legend, she fell on her butt putting her hand on her head to get the stars out of her eyes. This was the opportunity Nightwing needed to put the girl in cuffs, specially made for people with superpowers.

The boy, who was now calling himself Impulse, was running through the hall and stopped in the training room.

"Ha-ha, you can't catch me that e…" He was cut off when Legend punched him in the gut, knocking him to the ground, Nightwing then came in and put hand cuffs on Impulses wrists and ankles. Impulse groaned and looked up to the two heroes.

"Now that was crash." Nightwing said, giving Legend a fist bump. "Oh yeah." Legend said in agreement. "For you maybe. Me, I'm totally feeling the mode." Impulse said as he rolled to his side. "You're not the only one." All three looked over in the corner to see the girl that came with Impulse sitting there with cuffs on her wrists and ankles as well.

Later.

"Hold on. You two are tourist's… from the future?" Robin asked, skeptical. "Why so surprised, half the meat at Comic-Con is from our era." Impulse said, Robin just brought his hand to his chin and narrowed his eyes.

"Look guys, we should all be friends. We're just like you guys, part of the heroic legacy, right?" The girl asked, Robin and Beast boy didn't have time to answer as the two started talking again.

"My name's Bart Allen. You know, grandson of Barry Allen, The Flash." Impulse said hoping they would believe him, but they just looked shocked that he knew the flashes real name. "And what about you?" Robin asked, turning his attention to the girl. "Oh, well I'm Jasmine Jordan, or Jazz, but my hero name is Fable and I'm the granddaughter of Joshua Jordan, Who you know as Legend." The now named Fable said with pride in her voice. Beast boy then cleared his throat. "Noted, not believed, but noted." Beast boy said.

"What's not to believe? I've clearly got Flash's speed, his amazing good looks, and She has Legend's eyes, his nose, and all his powers. Frankly I'm jealous, cause she already got to meet her granddad, now I wanna meet mine. Well, you know, back when he was in his prime." Impulse kept rambling off until Fable head-butted him. "Bart, you're rambling again." She said in a bored tone making Impulse chuckle nervously. "Ow, sorry."

"Well then, Bart, Jasmine, you guys must be thirsty from coming all the way from the future." Nightwing said, walking in with a glass of water followed by Legend who also had a glass. "Thanks." Impulse said to Nightwing. "Thanks granddad." Fable said to Legend who stiffened. "Please don't call me that." He asked, eye twitching from the snickers beast boy was trying to hide.

The two started drinking until Impulse stopped. "Oh, I get it, you want a D N A sample from us, you need our spit." He then spit into the glass, Fable rolled her eyes and did the same. "Only uncle Dick would think of something like this." Fable said with a sigh. The heroes eyes widened at the fact that they knew Nightwing's secret identity. " How did you-" Nightwing started to ask but was cut off.

"See, we know stuff only people from the future would know. Dick Grayson, Joshua Jordan, Tim Drake, and Garfield Logan." Impulse said, shocking the Heroes.

"Your names Tim?" Beast boy asked pointing at Robin. "And yours is Dick?" He said doing the same to Nightwing. He didn't question Legend because he already knew his name.

Fable head-butted Impulse again, making him yelp. "Idiot, they weren't supposed to know that yet." She nearly growled out. "Ow, sorry. this secret identity thing is so retro. I mean you can call me Impulse or Bart or whatever it's all crash." Impulse rambled off again, once again getting a head-butt from Fable.

"Well you three can call me Fable or Jasmine, but only granddad can call me Jazz." Legend's eye began to twitch again. "I said don't call me grandad." He said with frustration.

"Is it possible that their telling the truth, can they really be from the future?" Robin asked Nightwing as Beast boy walked up to the two.

"Tell us something we don't know yet. When do become the leader of the team and get my own movie?" Beast boy demanded, looking them both in the eye. "Sorry uncle B, but we can't risk altering the time stream, we do that and we'll all be feeling the mode." Fable said. "And the mode… would be bad?" Beast boy asked confused. "It's the absolute worst, always better to crash the mode." Impulse answered. "Umm…Okay?" Beast boy said still confused.

The computer announced.

"And that's our cue." Impulse said as he vibrated through the hand cuffs, Fable on the other hand shocked everyone, minus Impulse, by melting the cuffs off with plasma energy.

Once they were free Impulse stood up. "Bye-bye." He then ran to hallway entrance, stopped and turned around. "Good luck with your thing Jazz." He said waving at Fable who waved back. "You to Bart." they then ran/flew off, Bart was being followed by Beast boy who turned into a falcon to try and keep up with him.

"He doesn't stand a chance does he?" Robin asked Nightwing. "Not at all, Impulse is to fast, but at least we can track them both." Nightwing said pulling up a HoloScreen with a map that showed where Impulse and Fable were.

"You planted a tracer? At their speeds they'll fall off." Robin said, looking at the screen. "It won't because they drank them." Nightwing said with a smirk. Robin held the glass up to his face. "Micro-tracker in the water, nice one." Robin complimented.

"Thanks. it looks like Impulse is making a beeline for Central city." "What about Fable?" "She's going in the opposite direction. She's leaving the U.S. and heading for… Bialya?" "Why there though?" "That's what I want to know.

Nightwing took out his phone and started typing, he then put the phone away again. "What was that about?" Robin asked. "Just called in a little back-up to take care of Impulse." "But not Fable?" "We don't have anyone available who can get her without causing an incident."

Bialya; February 28th 11:32 CST

Fable was flying around the palace until she came across an unsuspecting cellar door. She looked around before crushing the lock with one hand and snuck in.

She walked through the palace as quiet as she could until she reached a large oak door. The door opened and Noor Harjavti stepped out, looking back she shook hands with who ever was behind that door then walked away as the door closed and Fable flew in.

The person behind the door was LG-03, Legends Android clone. He sat down on a bench at the foot of the bed and shut his eyes and just sat there.

Fable floated in the corner of the room, out of sight, until she heard a gurgle. In the other corner of the room, right next to the window was a small kid bed with a two year old boy snoozing in it.

"Jackpot." Fable thought to herself. She then dug in her pocket and pulled out a small device with a big red button on it. She pressed the button and every electronic in the room, including the Android shut down. With great speed, Fable went over to the kids bed, grabbed him, and crashed though the window.

As she was flying away, several turrets started firing nets at her. She bobed and waved, dodging all of the nets.

From her balcony, Queen Bee growled while clenching her fists so tight that her nails dug into her palms and drew blood.

Mount Justice March 1st 13:40 EST

"Impulse's D N A matches up with yours and Iris's Barry, and Fable's Matches with yours Joshua. Plus, this thing is giving off both Zeta and Chronotron radiation." Nightwing explained.

"Which is what you'd expect off a time machine, atleast theoretically." Kid Flash finishes for Nightwing.

"Which means you're exactly who you say you are." Flash said, putting his hand on Impulses shoulder. "Both of you." Legend said looking down at Fable.

"Well, if you wanted proof I could have shown you this." Fable said Reaching into her shirt and pulling out a necklace with a diamond star hanging from it.

Legend's and Nightwing's eyes widened seeing it. "Where did you get this?" Legend asked, grabbing the necklace to get a better look at it. "You gave it to me, well future you did, right before me and Bart came back here." Fable explained.

"But why would I-" Legend asked but was cut off by Impulse who ran up between the two. "No, stop, spoilers!" Impulse said sounding slightly scared. "Oh yeah, Hehehe, sorry." Fable apologized with a nervous chuckle.

"Yo, what's the deal with the bling?" Kid asked. "Oh, a few months back Nightwing had an idea that involved me, and oven, and a few lumps of coal."

It took only three seconds for kid to figure it out. "You made a bunch of diamonds while you were in an oven! Why?!" "One it was to test my powers, and two I wanted to see if it would work too."

"Anyways, Its been crash, but the future awaits, We gotta run, Hahahaha."

Everyone minus the Flash groaned at the speed pun. "Let's just go please, I'd rather deal with this at home." Fable complained. "Fine, fine. And as for you gramps-" Impulse said as Flash walked up behind him and Legend behind Fable. "Thanks for coming back." Flash said. "Can't wait to meet you again, for the first time, and watching you grow up." Legend said, putting a hand on top of Fable's head. "Yeah, what he said." Flash said, putting his hands on Impulses shoulders.

"That, will be so crash." Impulse said "Yeah, so crash." Fable said in agreement. Both time travelers hugged their respective Grandfather, this time without crushing them on Fables part.

"So long." The pair said as they climbed into the time machine. The door closed but nothing happened, everyone was confused. "Maybe they're traveling forward one second at a time." Beast boy suggested.

Suddenly, Fable kicked the door off. "It's not working, the whole things fried!" Impulse said angrily as he and Fable got out, he then kicked the side of the machine in frustration. "Can one of you fix it." Flash asked as he walked up to the them. "We're tourists, not chronal experts, look at us." Impulse said while gesturing to himself and Fable. "Yeah, and now we're stuck in the stupid past. Ugh, I'm so moded." Fable wines.

(Flashback)

Black snow rained down softly from a cloudy sky. "How's it coming?" A male voice asks. "Almost done." Bart's voice answers. "I just need a few more parts." He says, adjusting the circuitry for the time machine.

The two hear footsteps and turn to see Jasmine, wearing street clothes and holding said parts. "I've got the last parts you need." She says as she walked up to Bart and handed him the parts. "I wish I could go with you two." The man said. "Sorry, it only seats two and he already has a copilot. " Jasmine said, glancing back at him.

"You understand, the trip to the past will fry the circuitry, this is a one-way trip." The man warned. "Does this look like a future worth coming back too?" Bart Gestured to their surroundings, they were in a giant crater that used to be Mount Justice.

Mount Justice February 28th 10:05 EST (Forty Years Later)

Bart sighed as he finished working on the machine. "Welp, we'd better get in character, Neutron." Fable said as Bart grabbed her and put her behind a boulder a few feet away, and he ran and grabbed his costume. "Please don't use that name. I was Neutron for too long, caused too much destruction." Neutron said with his head down.

He then reached into his shirt and pulled out a small blue ball as impulse ran up to him and Fable walked up behind him. "Curing me and saving Flash's life, that's only the beginning." Neutron warned as he handed the ball to Impulse.

"We know Nathaniel." Impulse said as he pocketed the small orb and adjusted his goggles. "C'mon Bart, big mission, lots to do, better get to it." Fable said from the machine.

After the pair left Neutron looked at himself and saw he was cured. "Those kids are so crash, they did it. It's a new… day?" Nathaniel starts to say happily but drifted off When he saw that his surroundings Had not changed, the world was still destroyed.

"No, the timeline, It should've changed, everything should've changed all at once. The mode, It should've crashed." He fell to his knees, now knowing that the kids failed.

(Flashback End)

Legend and Fable were at the Zeta tube about to leave the cave. "Hey LG, can we talk for a minute, alone." Nightwing said walking up to The two.

"Jasmine, head to my place, Fang should be at the other Zeta tube, he'll show you were it is. Make sure Lian and Darius get to bed." Legend said, putting a hand on Fables shoulder and giving her a comforting smile. Fable returned the smile. "Alright, see you there granddad." She said running through the Zeta tube, leaving an angered Legend and snickering Nightwing.

Legend sighed and turned to Nightwing. "So what's up Dick?" Legend asked, already knowing what he wanted to talk about.

"Have you received any word from Queen Bee yet?" "No, not yet. And hopefully not any time soon." "Well, seeing as he great granddaughter came from the future and kidnapped her grandson I wouldn't keep your hopes up." Legend sighed, the two high fived and went their separate ways.

The Android is called LG-03 because he is the third one. Epic was the first, and Legend is the second, making the android third.
