Hello, everyone. One more part to go after this. And sorry for the long wait with the other stories. I just want to get this story done first. And then I'll get started again next week. In the meantime, enjoy this chapter.
The Prophecy Comes True Part Three:
(Jason's Point of View)
I was so overjoyed to be back with Luke. I had missed him so much. I was not going to be separated from him again. "I'm so happy to see you again,".
"I'm so happy to see you too, Jase." Luke enjoyed the booming of fireworks in the sky. "And talk about a celebration," he side-hugged me. "Hey, you okay? You seem rather quiet,".
"Just thinking about something, Phoebe said that the Oracle told her. 'You shall fail to save what matters most in the end',".
"She was probably referring to her mum. Still, did she save her?".
"We returned Hades's Helm to him, the same helm the thief used to steal the bolt from Olympus," I explained. "There are just some things that don't make sense, Luke. The quest is over and everything the Oracle told Phoebe has either come true or makes sense,".
"Prophecies are vague, Jase. They don't tell you everything,". Luke placed down the lantern.
"Except they do. 'You shall go west and face the god who has turned'".
"Ares. Getting his butt kicked by Phoebe. That must have been something to watch,".
" 'Find what was stolen and see it return' ".
"And you guys did. You returned Zeus's master bolt and the war is over. You've finally earned your place amongst demigods, brother. The king of the gods will know better than to mess with you next time. And neither will Clarisse,".
Luke was hiding something. I could feel my skin tingling with fear.
(Phoebe's Point of View)
I looked everywhere for Chiron. I went to his house and found him talking to satyr guards and older half-bloods. "Remember, patrol the camp at all times. No one is getting inside,".
"Chiron!". I burst into the room.
"Phoebe," Chiron turned his head.
"I'm so glad I found you. Listen, Jase and Luke are heading to the clearing, and they're gonna wait for you,".
"Why? Shouldn't they be at the party?".
His words puzzled me. "You're supposed to be meeting Luke and Jason so they can tell you that Clarisse is the lightning thief,".
"Wait. What?".
"Luke told us you were gonna meet them there. He said that he told you ….
"He never said anything. He didn't mention anything about Clarisse being the lightning thief,".
Suddenly, everything clicked into place. The flying shoes, the way Ares twitched a little when I mentioned him, and now this …
'You shall be betrayed by one who calls you friend. '. And Luke had called me that.
"Jason," I sprinted off. I had to get to him quickly. I sprinted through the woods when suddenly I collided with Peter, Keto and Max.
"Sorry, Phoebe." Layla helped me up.
"What's the big rush?" Max asked.
I needed help. "Guys, it's Jason. He's in trouble!".
"What do you mean trouble?". Layla asked.
"We have to get to the clearing!".
(Jason's Point of View)
I waited a long while for my dad. He wasn't coming. "My dad seems to be taking his time,".
"He's probably got other things on his mind." Luke was doing that weird thing again. Like that strange smile I saw him do before. My heart was pounding. "I mean once a quest is complete that's it. You celebrate the glory and stopping a war and get on with life,".
Now he was talking dirty. As we stood near some ruins, I noticed some bags nearby, all packed up. Tears pricked my eyes. Luke stopped fiddling around and realised how quiet I was. "Jason, you okay? Was it something I said?".
I wiped my eyes. "There's something that's been tingling my mind for a while now. When we confronted Ares, I saw his eye twitching the moment Phoebe mentioned you. It was as if you met him before,". Luke was speechless. "And what was it you said before, during our talk? 'Give him an opportunity for a war to start and he'll go along with it' … The way you chuckled when we told you we encountered him. The shoes you gave Phoebe tried pulling Grover into the pit into Tartarus the moment the bolt appeared in her bag. You wanted her dragged down there so that the bolt would be delivered right to Kronos,".
Luke was caught. "I didn't think Phoebe would give them to Grover to wear,". I stumbled back in invisible horror, unable to believe my words for a single moment.
"You've been behind all this. You sent that hellhound on Phoebe before so that she could be sent on the quest to carry out your plan. And somehow when you stole the bolt, Ares managed to catch you, and you swayed him into joining your cause, promising a war would come,". Luke tried to touch me, but I stepped away. "Don't you dare touch me,".
"Jason, please listen. None of this was meant to betray you. I would never ever let any harm come to you,".
"You would have had others die instead?" I sneered, anger boiling in my blood. "Phoebe, Grover, Cody…. Your betrayal nearly cost their lives." I would never forgive him for this. The brother I grew up with and loved would never have risked his friends' lives for his own selfish desires.
Luke looked guilty. Still, he persisted. "The gods are our enemies, brother. I brought you here because I want to recruit you,". He pulled out his sword. "This is our way out,". He sliced across the air. A portal appeared. "Backbiter can open secret doors. This is our way out of camp, out of their control. We can stay on the run for as long as we need,".
"There is no 'we, '" I spat. He was hurt. "You think I would want anything to do with you after all you've done?".
"The gods don't care about us. They want us to fight for them, worship them, fear them. They don't care about what we want. Zeus tried to kill you all those years ago. He didn't even save his own daughter. He just turned her into a tree to stand alone on a hill. Poseidon may have blessed you, but even he couldn't protect your birth family any more than Hermes could protect my mother and me. And sooner or later, the gods are gonna come for you, to kill you. I want to protect you,".
"No," I shook my head. "This isn't you. This is Kronos. He got to you. he's using you,".
"No, he's opened my eyes to the truth. I am going to bring back the Golden Age, the age which he ruled. Stealing the bolt and the helm was only the beginning. But for what comes next, we're gonna need all the help we can get. With your power, we can win,".
"No", I shook my head. "I won't be a part of this. I hate the gods just as much as you do. But as a child blessed by a god who defended me and his daughter from his own brother, I will not stand for you consorting that mad Titan. The gods aren't perfect, but they're trying their best. I met your father,".
Luke pulled out a vial with a pin. "I'm sorry, brother, but you're the key to starting it all,".
(Phoebe's Point of View)
I sprinted. I had to get to Jason quickly. I saw a lantern light and Luke lifting Jason, who was unconscious, off the ground. He turned towards a hole in the air between two columns.
"No!". I ran faster, and I pushed Luke to the ground, knocking him away. Jason was dropped. I crawled to him. "Jase,".
Luke held his sword to my neck. "Step aside, Phoebe,".
"I will not let you take him against his will." I pulled out Riptide, and our swords met. We fought.
"You did get better," he complimented.
"How could you?" I demanded. "How could you betray us? Jason? Annabeth?".
Blinded by hatred, Luke swiped his blade again, disarmed me and knocked me back. His sword tip touched my chest. "Join me. Or die,".
"Never."
"That's a shame. Cause you're needed as well for what's to come,". He raised the blow. But then, clang! He deflected a thrown dagger.
"Stop!" shouted more voices. "It's over, Luke!" Layla, in the form of a black dragon with mighty wings and a long crocodile-like snout, growled. Max and Peter had their weapons out, too.
Luke stepped away, and I shuffled back onto my feet. Annabeth appeared. "Annabeth," his voice broke.
She pulled out her sword. "I heard everything." She was heartbroken with grief.
Cody appeared with Tuastos and Akeda, both growing hatefully at the friend who had betrayed us all. "How could you?". His face rained with tears.
"It's over, Luke. Your plan failed," I defied. "Surrender,". But Luke made a turn and fled. "No!" I shouted.
Keto charged and snapped her jaws. The portal disappeared. A piece of Luke's top was stuck in her teeth.
"Jason," I fell before, turning him over. He was pale and unconscious.
Annabeth fell beside him, too. She saw a purple needle point mark just below his neck. "He's been drugged,".
"Jason!" Chiron appeared in a hurricane of hooves from the trees. He saw our heartbroken faces. "What's happened?".
"It was Luke," Cody said tearfully. "He was the lightning thief. It was him all along. He worked with Ares to organise the thefts,".
Chiron was shocked.
"Jason's been drugged,". I informed him. Peter and Max lifted him off the ground. "We have to take him to the hospital wing,". They walked off, Chiron close behind, leaving the rest of them to stand in shock of what had just happened.
"I can't believe Luke nearly got us killed in the Underworld," Cody sniffled. "I always knew he resented his father. But I never thought he would go so far as to risk our lives for his own selfish goals."
"I am so sorry," I pulled Cody into my arms and hugged him tightly.
Annabeth stormed off in tears and Cody left with her. "Hey, do you think you could?". Layla couldn't reach for the stress of orange fabric in teeth with her short hands.
"Open wide." I carefully plucked the mouth. "Better?".
"Thank you,". Layla turned back to normal. She wobbled.
"Woah! Careful!' I caught her.
"Thank you. I don't usually take this form unless necessary,".
"I don't see any reason why you need to fear your form,".
"Being the daughter of Keto doesn't necessarily mean everyone's gonna accept your form. If I was just quicker, I could have caught ...,".
There can be no forgiveness for all that Luke's done,".
"I can't even bear to imagine how Jason will feel when he wakes up,".
It was morning the third day after we came back. Grover came inside my hut. "You doing okay?" he asked. I nodded. "I can't bear to imagine what the others are feeling right now as well,". He too was heartbroken by Luke's betrayal. I was so angry that after all he did for him, Luke nearly got him killed with those flying shoes.
"I should go talk to Annabeth and Cody." I left the hut and walked towards the Athena cabin. She was around the back on a stump, very unemotional. I approached her slowly, twiddling my thumbs to distract me from doing anything straightforward. "Annabeth…"
"What he did to Jason, to all of us…" her voice cracked. "It's unforgivable."
"I'm so sorry."
She turned around. Water glistened in her eyes. I chose to do the only thing I could think of. I hugged her. She was solid. But then I felt her arms hug me back, too. She needed my comfort. Soft whines pulled us apart. Akeda came, and she hugged his head. Then, Tuastos let us stroke her fur. Cody dismounted her. Annabeth embraced her.
"You doing okay?" I asked.
Cody nodded, hiding his tear eyes. "My mother came to me last night. I was crying. But then there she was, just like how I remembered her. She hugged me, comforted me and told me that out of all her kids, I'm the only one who loves animals. It's why I'm the only one of her children has animal protectors,".
"Then that's a sign she's proud of you." Annabeth smiled a bit. "Unlike mine,".
"You don't need her approval," I told her softly. "We're proud of you, and that's enough,".
"We should go and check on Jason. The drug really did him in,". We walked to the hospital hut, but we found only Chiron outside.
"How is he?" I asked.
"I can hardly say the words," his voice was broken. "He's at the lake in such a state,".
"Are you two gonna go talk to him?" I asked Annabeth and Cody.
They silently consorted. "We think you should talk to him," Cody said. Chiron agreed.
(Jason's Point of View)
The lake was calm and unmoving. I was feeling so weak but that awful drug the boy I once called brother had injected me with. It was scorpion poison, but I was alive. Pebbles were shuffling behind me. "Jason,".
I recognised that kind voice. "I thought we were family, but it was all a lie," I mourned, burying my head in my hand.
Phoebe said beside me, but I didn't turn to her. "I don't think he intended to harm you."
"But he intended to drag you and the others down into Tartarus. He risked your lives. In the name of some crazy titan who will destroy the world the moment he brings him back. I blame Hermes for what he's become. Anger boiled in my blood again. "I blame the way gods treat their children. I hate them!". I sent a blast of blue energy shooting across the lake, causing a massive explosion of water.
It caused a shockwave that knocked me back. Phoebe hurt herself. I realised what I had done. "I'm sorry,". I ran off.
"Jason, wait!". Phoebe chased me, but I outran her as if I were sprinting with the speed of a cheetah.
I fled into the forest and hid behind a tree, burying my head in my knees. I stayed there for hours until Phoebe found me again. "Please leave me alone. I don't want you to see me like this,".
"I don't care if you're crying. I'm hurting too,". I tried to walk off. "Jason, please,".
"He betrayed all of us. And look what I've just done, I nearly hurt you. I wish he had just taken me away. He's never gonna stop till he gets his hands on me. He wants to use me like Pilius. I thought I would be safe at Camp Half Blood, but I'll never be safe!".
I tried to leave again, but Phoebe grabbed my hand. "Jason, please," she begged. "I am so, so sorry for Luke's betrayal. I thought he was my friend too, and his betrayal hurts more than I can express as well,".
I didn't run. But I didn't turn. I cried again. "I'm sorry about what I did. I didn't mean to be angry,".
"No, you have every right to be angry. The gods have made loads of mistakes, and Kronos took advantage of that to sway Luke,".
"Your dad is better than them. He saved you. And me, too,".
"Artemis came to Cody last night and comforted him,".
I turned to her. "She did?".
"Yes. Your dad's waiting for you,".
"I don't want to hurt someone,".
"You won't," she promised. "We'll do this together,". She offered her hand, and I took it. My powers calmed down.
(Phoebe's Point of View)
I escorted Jason back through the woods to the camp. All our friends were waiting for us. Annabeth walked to Jason and gave him a warm squeeze. "Oh Beth,". He cried.
"I know, Jase. I'm angry too, but I miss him,".
"So do I,".
Chiron came over. "Thank you, Phoebe. You are a leader in the eyes of your fellow half-bloods. You have made me very proud,".
"I'm sorry about Luke's betrayal,".
"You are not to blame. None of you,". He eyed his son with tears. "Out of all of us, it is Jason who he hurt the most aside from Annabeth,".
"I wish there was something I could do to make them feel better." I twiddled my fingers. "Chiron, Pilius will come after Jason. There's no doubt he will have escaped the Underworld by now,".
"When Jason came to me all those years ago, he was only a month old. So young and fragile … I've done all I can to keep him safe. And now I fear I may not be able to anymore,".
"Don't say that, Chiron," I said. "He knows you'll do anything for him,".
"Luke wanted to take him for a reason. And I fear that perhaps he might need you as well to bring Kronos. Which is even more dangerous,". He escorted me back to my hut, and I gathered my things. "He will not be safe with me anymore. Which is why until the summer he'll need somewhere safe to stay. Somewhere both Pilius and Luke will never suspect,".
An idea popped into my head. "I think I know just the idea,".
Chiron sniffled. "Thank you, Phoebe,".
"Is that your name?" It was Mr. D. "I'm pretty sure it was Penny."
"Phoebe. Phoebe Jackson. And I'm proud of it. I know my own name and you will learn to know it too,". I might have sounded a little arrogant, but he had that coming for a long time.
Chiron escorted me to the atrium where everyone was gathering with their items. "We have all had a great summer. But now, most of you will be heading home, should you wish to. Now, it has been a tense few days, but we mustn't let what happened cloud our minds. We need to be very careful of what's going on out there,".
As he spoke, I could sense Clarisse sending cold glares behind her necks, and we tingled. Jason didn't even have the heart to look back at her.
"Now, have a good summer!".
Everyone began to leave but Clarisse wanted a word with us. So did her cronies. "I'm not afraid of you, Clarisse,".
"You made a big mistake humiliating my father," she snarled.
"Don't dwell on it, bully." Cody approaches us. "Grover and I talked to him ourselves and he said plain and clear, 'I hate kids. Even my own kids'. He doesn't care about you, so why bother caring about him? He tried to start a war, tried to have us all killed,".
Clarisse narrowed her eyes. "Do you look I care little man?".
"Back of my little brother," Jason warned. Although his eyes were stained with tears, his courage remained strong. "Listen, Clarisse, there are more important things in life than glory and trying to earn someone's approval. We all realised that on this quest, and that's what makes us worthier of honour and respect than us. And I think you'll find Phoebe Jackson is the most selfless of us all so if you mess with her, you mess with all of us,".
All our friends came to stand by our side: Max, Peter, Keto, Annabeth, Naomi … Ares's kids were intimidated, but not their leader.
"So how about it, Clarisse?" Phoebe challenged. "Are you gonna mess with us?".
"You got lucky, Miss Jackson," Clarisse sneered. "But luck doesn't last forever,".
Tuastos roared in her face, spilling saliva in her hair. We all laughed, and she stormed off.
"That'll teach her." Riya appeared with her sister. "Guys, we're going to scour the ocean along America's coastlines for anyone who tries to come through these portals. They are always popping up and then disappearing then and again that it's impossible to keep track of them,".
"We'll notify your father if anything happens," Philitus said.
"Thank you. And thank you, Riya, for all that you did for us," I said gratefully. "We couldn't have completed our quest without you,".
As the campers were departing, Grover came sprinting up to us. "Did you get it?" Annabeth asked excitedly.
Grover smiled and pulled back his coat revealing a large green flower brooch. "Is that your Searcher's licence?" I asked excitedly.
"Yeah! Officially authorised to begin the quest for Pan,".
"Oh, Grover. I'm so proud of you!" I gave him the biggest hug in the world.
"Arthur would be so proud of you," Jason praised.
"Where are you gonna start?" Annabeth asked.
"Well, the natural world's been searched twice. But I remember that before Arthur left, he went to search the seas. Maybe that's where I should start. And maybe … maybe I might be able to find out what happened to him,".
"I should go with you," Jason implored.
"No, Jason. It is too dangerous for you," Grover said. "If the people who are looking for you enter our world through portals, then you'd be a sitting duck. This is something I have to do alone,".
"Just let us know if you need us,". I begged.
"You know I will,".
(Jason's Point of View)
Annabeth was saying goodbye to Thalia's tree. Phoebe and I had finally convinced her to go back to her family to give them a chance. She had received a letter just yesterday from her father, begging her to come back, expressing how much he missed her. She decided she couldn't keep running away from her past.
I walked up to her. "How does she feel about you going home?".
"I imagine she's thrilled." Annabeth, with her hair all braided up, walked over to me. "There's a part of me that's glad she isn't alive to hear what Luke did,".
Phoebe, Grover, Cody and the animals came over to us. "Are you excited?" Cody asked.
Annabeth hid her smile. "My dad says that he wants to show me around New York City first, and then there's this place called Waterland,". Phoebe laughed. "Is that right?".
"Just be a kid and embrace it," she encouraged.
"Thank you for what you said before about family," Annabeth said. "I never would have agreed to this if you hadn't insisted,".
I noticed Cody was crying a bit, and Grover was trying to comfort him. Hearing Annabeth talk about her dad brought up that terrible memory I had seen in the Underworld. Akeda's ears flicked up. He barked. "What is it, boy?".
We walked down the hill, and just off the road, we saw a tall man with curly hair and a strong resemblance to Cody. He wore green adventure clothes, and the moment he saw the little boy beside me, his eyes widened, and he stepped towards us.
Cody could hardly breathe. He was crying a little. Tuastos growled softly, and Akeda nudged him with her snout.
"It's your dad," I said to my little brother. "Go. He's waiting for you,". Cody started slow, but the clearer the sight, the faster he flew down the hill and into the arms of his father. His kissed his head and spun him around.
The girls were crying for joy. "So that's who you wanted Hades to bring back?" Phoebe asked.
I nodded. "We have our dads. He doesn't. He needs him back,".
"That was so thoughtful of you,". Grover said proudly.
"Indeed," said a spooky voice. We turned around and saw Hades. "You all caused a lot of trouble bring those half-bloods into my realm. Pilius of course, had tricks up his sleeve,". He had escaped yet again. I was so sure the God of the Underworld could keep him confined, but I was wrong. Pilius was smarter than even him. "I've kept my side of the bargain, now it's time to keep yours, Jason,".
He held out his hand. I pulled out my father's sword and looked once at my reflection in the shimmering blade. I realised at that moment that I did not want to let it go. But I made a bargain so my little brother could have his father back and I couldn't go back on it. I still had my pendant. "I'm waiting,". Hades's impatient fingers demanded the blade, and with a trembling heart, I placed it into his palm.
"It's done," I said. "Now you'd better keep that blade safe".
"You know I'd keep this prized sword safe but remember, should you ever need this sword back, you know the price,". His cold voice sent tingles down my spine.
"Where's my mother?". Phoebe demanded.
"She will be here soon,". Hades said. And in a flash, he was gone.
Annabeth exploded. "Why did you give him your sword? That was the only thing keeping you safe,".
"I had to, guys," I said. "Pilius wanted this sword so badly. And with Hades keeping his helm under higher guard, the Underworld is the safest place for it to remain. Besides, Cody has his father back. It wasn't me who defeated those monsters before. It was the sword. It was always the sword. I can't be a hero by constantly relying on it,".
"You're already a hero," Grover said encouragingly. "With or without the sword,".
It belonged to your father,".
"I still have this," I lifted my charm.
"I think he would be proud of what you did," Phoebe said admirably.
We walked over to watch Cody with his dad. "My beautiful, beautiful boy," Sam smothered his head with kisses.
The little boy I loved was a bundle of joy. "I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too, little man,". Sam saw us but was more surprised by the presence of the bear and the wolf.
"Mother sent them to me. This is Akeda and Tuastos,". Cody ecstatically pulled his astounded father's hand to her snout so he could stroke her. Then Akeda smothered his face with licks, and he groaned much to our amusement.
"She sure made a good pick,". He loved animals. No wonder Artemis was so drawn to him before. He eyed us. "And these are your friends?".
"Yes!" Cody grabbed my hand and pulled me forward. "This is Jason. He's the one who found me and brought me to Camp Half Blood, And now he's brought you back as well,".
Sam stared at me. Then, all of a sudden, he pulled me into an awkward hug. "Thank you, thank you for taking such good care of my son,".
"It was nothing, Mr. Stephens," I said. "Don't thank just me,". Cody introduced the rest of us to his dad and all our other friends who were just leaving camp to go home for the summer, we waved them off. But I noticed Phoebe was rather quiet.
"Phoebe, look over there!" Grover pointed over Cody's head. A red car pulled up and out of it stepped Sally Jackson with her wavy brown hair, shining eyes and the biggest smile I had ever seen.
"Mum!" Phoebe's joyful cries stimulated her legs to sprint down the hill and right into Sally's arms. She spun her around, holding her tightly as her daughter cried. "I've missed you,".
"I'm so happy to see you," she cried back. I wanted a mother more than anything in the world. That love between mother and child… It is so powerful. Throughout this entire adventure, I never once got a hint of who my mother was or what she was like. "My beautiful girl,".
"I never would have stopped trying until I got you back,".
Sally kissed her head. Grover approached them. "Grover,".
"It's good to see you again, Miss Jackson,". He was engulfed in her arms, much to his awkwardness. "Thank you, thank you for protecting my daughter,".
"Your daughter did you proud,".
"I'd like you to meet our friends," Phoebe invited us to join them. "Annabeth, Cody and …
The moment Mrs Jackson laid her eyes on me, she froze. Like I had spooked her. "Jason,".
I froze. Everyone stared at me. "You know me?".
"I remember you when you were very small. You've grown,".
"Miss Jackson …" We turned around and saw Chiron approaching us.
"Mr. Brunner,". Miss Jackson greeted.
"I am so glad to see you are safe. I was hoping you would arrive here. Because I have a favour to ask you,".
"Of course, Mr. Bruner. Name it,".
Chiron looked at me. "Jason, you know as well as I do, Camp Half Blood isn't safe for you anymore. And as I must get the camps forces prepared for what's to come and find a way to track down Pilius, I must entrust your safety to someone who can help protect you as she did before,".
Sally stepped up. "Jason will be safe with me,".
"No!" I refused. "Miss Jackson, I cannot ask you to do that. I will not endanger you and Phoebe by staying with you,".
"I strongly insist, Jason. I took care of you and your dad when you both arrived in this world, and you'll be safer living amongst mortals in New York than being on the run,".
"She has a point, Jase," Annabeth said. "Just at least for the time being,".
"My father will be keeping an eye out for Pilius," Phoebe assured me. "And I'm certain he'll send a sign if anything happens,".
"I am sorry about this, Jason," Dad said miserably. "But above anything I must do this to keep you safe,". I pursed my lips. "And as it was Poseidon who blessed you, I trust that Phoebe's mother will be the person to trust you with,".
They were right. Pilius would be expecting me to be on the run. He knew I had lived amongst demigods my whole life. But not humans. And with luck, he didn't know anything about Miss Jackson or where she lived.
"He's right, Jason," Cody agreed. "Now come, we need to get your stuff ready,". We gathered his stuff but at Poseidon's hut and paid an extra visit to the big house. Jason walked around each room one last time. As a child, he would play hide and seek with Chiron, looking for him for hours. He cherished that moment. It was going to be so hard saying goodbye.
So Luke was the thief. Jason is so heartbroken. He gave up his sword to bring back Cody's father, and Sally knew him and his father. What did you all think? I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Only one more to go now. Please send reviews and let me know what you all think. Once again I take no credit for Phoebe Jackson or Atlantis, only my OCs. See you all at the weekend for the final chapter.
