"Resume firing" he ordered, causing the air to be once again filled with the crackle and blasts of gunfire but the low constant note was still the prevailing sound amongst it all. Slowly the Smog Monster began to higher the pitch ever so lightly, slowly adjusting the frequency. The pitch continued to change until the soldiers began to notice something weird happening to their gas masks.
The Polycarbonate screen at the front began to vibrate aggressively. The soldiers dismissed it and kept firing at the monster, sure that the target was on the ropes as they could see blue blood leaking from a thousand wounds. The pitch of the monster's note was now constant and beginning to rapidly increase in volume. Meanwhile, the windows of the masks began to vibrate evermore viciously.
The creature had found the resonant frequency of the mask.
Suddenly masks began to crack. The polycarbonate windows of the gas masks snapped free of the surrounding hard plastic, creating shard like holes that let in the noxious gas. Gunfire almost immediately halted as the soldiers frantically tried to cover up the holes with their hands, holding their breath and hoping that the mask could clear out toxic gases.
The monster stopped blasting the resonant frequency and began to claw its way towards the defensive line at top speed. In mere moments it crashed into the ranks of defenceless soldiers who were either yearning for breath or coughing up blood onto the inside of their compromised gas masks.
The monster ravaged along the built up mound barging through tanks and trampling gunmen. Its muscular forearms pierced deep into the mud scrapping deep gashes into the disturbed earth.
Suddenly the harsh crackle of the commander's communication device cut through the haze of screams and crashes. The commander picked it up and accepted the call.
"Warning, Titan approaching!" yelled the guy on the other end of the line.
"I know," said the commander, using up some of his precious air.
"No, not your Target, another one!"
At that moment a gust of wind blew past, wafting away the caustic fumes and clearing the air of the peasoup fog the monster had produced.
"Titan, approaching fast, Ten 'O Clock!" the voice crackled from the device.
The commander took in a deep breath the smog free air ,the dregs of the smoke still singing his lungs. The commander, looked around to get a bearing for where ten O clock was and immediately noticed the jagged form of an all to familiar titan approaching from the northwest
GrKKrKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The Titans' deafening road resonated across the land. The smog monster stopped its rampage and turned to look at its new opponent.
