Draco,
Thank you for letting me know. Please keep me updated as you can. I am unable to leave London due to the upcoming trials but as soon as I am able, I will like you meet up in Hogsmeade if possible. Last time I heard from Amethyst, she was planning on coming to the trails, but under the circumstances, that might have changed. Please send my sister my love.
Dimitri K.
Draco set to sending a reply before moving on to Ollivander's letter. He pulled some parchment out of his bag and quickly wrote the update of Amethyst's condition. He wasn't sure about the status of her being able to attend the trials. After sealing the envelope, he turned his attention to Ollivander's letter.
Mr. Malfoy,
The wand is finished and will be ready for pick up or delivery whenever you are able. Just let me know and I will have it ready. I know we haven't discussed payment, but I will not charge you. You provided the material and I am more than happy to gift the labor. This was the first time I have ever made a wand with two woods and two cores. It was a challenge and I really enjoyed it.
Ollivander
Draco pulled more parchment out. He explained that he would be in London the following week so he would be able to pick up the wand then. He mentioned that he would stop by the shop when he had the chance. There was still a possibility that he would have to find a chance to leave Amethyst to pick it up. He didn't mention that he would be paying at least some amount. Draco knew that Ollivander had spent many hours working on the wand - way more than he usually would. He'd just make an anonymous donation to Ollivander's shop. He sealed that envelope and then tucked both replies in his bag. He held the letter from his mother, but decided to pocket it for the time being. He headed up to the owlery before going back to the hospital wing.
"She did what?!" Draco heard Amethyst talking to someone as he made his way towards her bed. "Are you okay? Is your dad okay?" She sounded worried but there was also slight irritation in her voice.
"Dad was livid… though I'm not sure who was more livid, him or Professor McGonagall…" Scorpius' voice drifted to where Draco was waiting. Scorpius must have told her about the howler. "She may be my grandmother, but she hasn't got the right to scold me for that."
"Your gran is something else…" Amethyst thought a moment. "Don't worry about it too much though. Focus on your studies. She may be your grandmother, but that doesn't mean you have to put up with that. Now, you should get back to class, break is almost over and you don't want Professor Longbottom to dock house points for being tardy."
"Yes, Professor, and thanks for listening." Scorpius headed towards the doors. He stopped in his tracks when he saw his dad. Draco simply patted him on the shoulder, smiled, and motioned for him to get going.
"Eavesdropping?" Amethyst teased as Draco approached her. "Your mum really sent Scorpius a howler? About us?"
"Yes. She also sent me a letter, but I haven't opened it yet." Draco pulled over a chair and sat down.
"Who incinerated the howler?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Honestly, I'm not sure. McGonagall and I both raised our wands at the same time… and I don't think we were the only ones." He pulled his mum's letter out of his bag and laid it on the bed.
"What do you mean?" Amethyst watched as he played with a corner of the envelope.
"Pretty sure Alexia and Albus both had their wands up too. Not sure if anyone else noticed." He sighed. Amethyst rested a hand on his. "Guess I should get this over with." He opened the envelope and braced himself for what ever his mother had to say.
Draco,
Exactly how long has this 'relationship' been going on? And what did you do to Pansy that she would even think to attack you? What right does Scorpius have to agree to this 'relationship'? How dare you leave the Manor and accept such a job! Being a teacher, even at Hogwarts, is so beneath our family! From here on out, I hesitate to call you family…
N. Malfoy
"What nerve…" Draco took a deep breath. He stood up and paced by the foot of the bed. Amethyst read over the letter and then looked at him.
"I know your mother was a lot of things, but this really takes things to a different level…" Amethyst said. "However…"
"The thing is…" Draco stopped pacing and looked at her. "It doesn't sound like my mother… it sounds more like something my father would say."
"Do you think he would also send Scorpius the howler?" Amethyst asked. She had been thinking the same thing.
"Honestly, that would make more sense." Draco sighed. "I think I'm going to try and get to Hogsmeade at some point today or use one of the fireplaces to contact my mother. I want to make sure the anger is appropriately directed. No need to chew my mother out if it wasn't her. Though, if it was my father pretending to be her, I can't imagine that will go well for him."
"I can't imagine she will take that well. Are you going to explain things to Scorpius?"
"I want to find out the truth first. Right now, he doesn't want anything to do with his grandmother, which is completely understandable." Draco ran a hand through his hair. "Dimitri sent a letter this morning. He would visit, but he's stuck in London because of the trials."
"Hopefully, I will be well enough to attend the trials. It may mean taking the Knight Bus as I may not want to risk apparating right now. I'll write him a letter today." She stifled a yawn. She watched his facial expression. "What?"
"Hmm?" He asked looking at her.
"There's something else, isn't there?" She asked.
"Alexia wants to stop by…" Draco mentioned. "I told her I wasn't sure how many visitors Madam Pomfrey and Matron Longbottom will allow since you're supposed to be resting."
"You haven't been too harsh on her, have you?" Amethyst tilted her head a little.
"I have been a bit harsh, especially yesterday, but I have also tried to keep my composure. McGonagall did call her into her office yesterday." Draco admitted.
"I don't think I'm up for too many visitors today. It isn't that I don't want to see her, but it does take a toll, and as much as it pains me to stay in bed and rest…" She yawned. "Going back against the acromantulas is going to take me needing to be at full strength."
"Good point." Draco said. "You should probably get some more sleep. Hagrid is subbing for you again and I've got class to sit in on. Plus a lecture for History of Magic again."
"And reaching out to your mum about the letter and the howler." She squeezed his hand. He nodded, stood up, leaned in to kiss her forehead, and headed to class.
