Not long after Regina's purple smoke cleared, Emma poofed to the vault.
"I don't know how it keeps happening," Regina muttered, brushing back a stray hair from her face. The faintest tremor laced her words.
Emma leaned against the doorway, arms crossed. Her sharp green eyes studied Regina intently, not with anger, but with something much heavier: worry.
"You've been hurt four times this month, dear. Four. And that's just the ones you've told me about," Regina's voice was calm but tinged with frustration, "You can't tell me that's normal."
"As I said, I'm just clumsy, Gina," Emma replied, looking away.
"And as I said, No," Regina stated firmly, stepping closer. "This isn't just clumsiness. You're not like this. You've never been like this."
Emma opened her mouth to argue but closed it again, unable to meet Regina's gaze.
Regina's mind raced, piecing together fragments of a puzzle she hadn't even realized she was assembling. The accidents, the mishaps, the faint trace of sadness that clung to Emma like a second skin. Something wasn't right.
"Emma," Regina said softly, brushing her fingers against Emma's hand, "I need to ask you something. And I need you to be honest with me."
Emma hesitated but nodded.
"Are you..." Regina's voice faltered for a moment, "Are you sure you're not pregnant?"
Emma flinched.
"I-I'm sure," she stammered, tears welling in her eyes. "I told you, I had my period, long after I ended things with Killian."
Regina caught her hands, gripping them tightly, "You may have had a miscarriage, Emma," Regina's voice was steady, despite the storm of emotions inside her.
Emma's brow furrowed in confusion. "What makes you so sure?"
Regina closed her eyes and took a deep breath, "I think whatever happened, it's still tied to you."
Emma stared at her, her breath hitching. "You think that the clumsiness is caused by a pregnancy and miscarriage I don't even know about? That's a far stretch."
"Emma, breathe," Regina attempted to calm her, "The miscarriage is manifesting," Regina finished, "As these accidents. As the blood."
Emma shook her head, her voice trembling, "But that doesn't make any sense. I didn't do anything."
"You wouldn't have had to," Regina interrupted, "The magic part, I mean. Sex is a different ball game."
Before Emma could respond, Regina reached out, placing her palm against Emma's chest, "Do you trust me?" she whispered.
Emma nodded.
The air around them shimmered as Regina murmured an incantation. In an instant, the room seemed to have twisted and folded, colors bleeding together.
Emma gasped, clutching Regina's arm for support, "What was that?"
Regina guided Emma forward. The room pulsed with energy, alive with magic. "If there's anything tied to you, we'll need to find it. That pulse was just the confirmation I needed."
Emma hesitated, her eyes darting around the vault, "Gina, I don't know what's going on. I'm scared to find out."
"Scared? Hm, another symptom. Do you remember how brave you used to be?" Regina asked firmly, her grip on Emma's hand tightening, "We'll face this together. Whatever it is, we'll figure it out. I promise."
Emma stood frozen, her arms wrapped tightly around herself as though she could shield herself from the swirling energy of the place.
Regina, however, moved with practiced purpose. Her fingers traced the spines of each book, her eyes scanning the faintly glowing titles. She muttered under her breath, "It's here somewhere… it has to be."
"What are you looking for?" Emma asked, her voice sounded small and afraid.
"A book," Regina said, distracted, "It's ancient. It's where I keep records of magical manifestations. Like what I think is happening to you."
Emma swallowed hard, "And you think this book will help?"
Regina paused, her hand resting on a thick, black-bound volume. She turned to Emma, her expression softening, "I think it's a start. If there's something happening to you, this book will help me identify it and fix it."
Emma nodded, though she didn't look convinced.
Regina pulled the book from the shelf. The cover glowed brighter in her hands, responding to her touch. She carried it to a nearby table, its surface cluttered with vials. Regina moved her arm across its surface, pushing the vials out of the way to make space for the book. Flipping through the pages, she scanned symbols and diagrams, her lips moving silently as she read. After a few moments, her finger landed on a passage, and her eyes lit up.
"Here," she looked up, motioning Emma to her, "It's a manifestation tether. When an intense emotional or physical event happens, magic can latch onto it. Almost like a parasite. It manifests in ways tied to the event. In your case, it's blood."
Emma's face paled, "So? how do we stop it?"
Regina exhaled deeply, "We'll need to break the tether. And for that, I'll need to make a potion."
Without waiting for a response, Regina turned to a cabinet, pulling out various ingredients, "Powdered moonstone, a vial of phoenix ash, crushed lavender petals and binding essence," Regina read out as she checked off the list in the book and gathered the ingredients.
Emma watched as Regina moved with focused precision, pouring, grinding, and mixing, "These things are from the enchanged forest, how did you know youd need all of this? Ever? It's so specific," Emma commented, she forced a smile as she attempted to lighten the mood.
Regina smirked, not looking up, "You never know when you'll need phoenix ash or a binding essence. Comes with the territory. Besides, we need it now, don't we?"
She placed a small cauldron on the table and poured in the shimmering binding essence. As it began to bubble, she added the powdered moonstone, causing the mixture to glow faintly. Next came the lavender petals.
Finally, Regina added a pinch of phoenix ash. The potion hissed and turned a deep crimson.
"This should do it," Regina said proudly, carefully pouring the potion into a small glass vial, "Drink up, sweetheart."
Emma stared at the vial, "You're sure this will work?"
Regina hesitated, then nodded, "I've seen this before. My mother's friend went through the same thing, the signs were there - I can't believe I've missed them all this time. You had sex with Hook a while ago, had a miscarriage, too. Emma, you've got magic. You're not ordinary - your hormones are structured differently. When you had the miscarriage, it started manifesting in other ways," Regina paused, trying to think of a way to explain it better, "It's not you that's clumsy, dear. The magic needed to find a way out and the only way for that to happen is through blood. Which is why, even though you've had your period, there's all these accidents that cause bleeds," That's the best she could put it, Regina thought, "It's the best chance we have. The tether needs to be severed before it can do any more harm."
Taking a deep breath, Emma reached for the vial. Her fingers trembled as she held it to her lips.
"Whatever happens," Regina said, her voice steady, "I'm here, you're safe with me."
Emma nodded and tipped the vial back, the liquid burning as it slid down her throat. The moment she swallowed, the air around them seemed to crackle, and a low hum filled the vault.
Emma doubled over, clutching her stomach. The crimson light of the potion pulsed through her veins, and for a moment, it seemed as though the vault itself was holding its breath.
Regina instantly embraced Emma, holding her as close as humanely possible, "Emma, stay with me. I'm here. Concentrate on my voice."
Emma could hear Regina but couldn't respond. She felt her veins burning. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she began jerking.
"This is a normal reaction to the potion. I need you to take control now, okay? Deep breaths," Regina guided. She moved her hand over Emma's eyelids and closed them.
Emma's body shot forward, lifting her from the ground ever so slightly. Regina's grip on her tightened. Emma began sweating profusely and her heart rate increased. The magic in the vault flickered for a few seconds before stopping abruptly. Emma's body was now limb in the arms of Regina.
"Emma?" Regina held Emma's head now. "It's over."
Emma woke up a minute later, still drenched in sweat, "Next time, a heads up would be great."
"Hopefully there wouldn't be a next time. How do you feel?" Regina asked. She brushed Emma's hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead.
"Nauseous, dizzy and a bit drunk," Emma leaned into Regina.
"Side effects, but you should be back to normal in about an hour. I'm taking you home but we may have to walk. I don't want to expose you to any magic for a while," Regina stood and helped Emma to her feet.
"Or we can get my car from the Rabbit Hole?" Emma suggested.
Regina considered the option and pulled her phone out to text Ruby. "I'll ask Ruby to bring it here."

Regina sat on Emma's couch, slowly brushing her fingers through Emma's hair. Emma rested her head over Regina's lap. She was trying not to think about the miscarriage.
After a few minutes, Regina could feel her skirt getting cold. A shiver ran down her spine when the realization hit her - Emma was crying.
"Honey," Regina cooed.
"Yeah?" Emma's voice was soft but Regina could hear the break in it.
"Can we talk about it?" Regina leaned forward slightly, trying to see more of Emma.
Emma curled her hands towards herself, hugging her own body. She let out a sob, "How could I have not known?"
"It's not your fault baby girl. Things like this happen, especially when there's magic involved."
Emma sat now, facing Regina. She looked utterly defeated, "You knew."
"That's because I've seen the signs before. I wouldn't have known otherwise."
Emma was quiet. She let out a sigh and massaged her temples.
"Come here," Regina tapped her lap.
Emma straddled the brunette. Regina pulled her in closer and rubbed small circles along Emma's spine. This was comfortable for them. Emma in Regina's embrace again, it felt like home.

"Hey, you're awake," Regina kissed Emma's cheek.
Emma blinked slowly and smiled at Regina, "I feel so much better, thank you." She kissed Regina on her cheek.
Emma moved slightly, taking Regina's hands in her own, "I've been thinking."
"Oh yeah? I'm all ears," Regina sat up.
"We should have sex," Emma said boldly.
"Excuse me?" Regina was taken aback by the sudden suggestion.
"Well, it'll distract me from the miscarriage," Emma explained.
Regina raised a brow, "That's your reasoning?"
"Well, not the only reason," Emma blushed.
"Go on?" Regina encouraged her.
Emma bit her bottom lip, "I think it's time for our first time."
"Okay," Regina agreed.
"Wait, you agree?" Emma was caught off guard.
"Of course I do," Regina smiled. "But I want you to be sure."
"I'm sure," Emma said quickly.
Regina cupped her cheek and rubbed her thumb along it. "Let's do it then."
The air in the room charged as Regina leaned towards Emma. Emma gasped at the sudden intensity, her heart skipping a beat. She expected a soft kiss, gentle and coaxing. But this was something else entirely, something hot and almost desperate.
Regina's lips were firm and insistent, coaxing Emma's into parting, and when they did, she surged in with her tongue, stroking and teasing it against Emma's.
Emma let out a breathy moan, her hands curling into the collar of Regina's shirt, "Oh."
Regina smiled against her lips and nipped at her bottom one, drawing a gasp from her. She hummed in approval and pushed forward again, sliding her tongue over Emma's.
The kiss was like nothing Emma had ever felt before. It was hungry and powerful and utterly consuming. The world narrowed down to this, to Regina and the way she was moving against Emma, their bodies pressed so close they were almost one.
"Regina," Emma gasped, pulling back for a moment.
The brunette immediately went for her neck, sucking up a dark red mark at the hollow of her neck.
"Fuck," Emma groaned and guided her back up.
She fumbled with the buttons of Regina's shirt and pulled it down. She unhooked her bra and pushed it away, exposing her breasts to the air. Emma moaned softly when her hand ran over Regina's perky nipples.
She sucked in one of the breasts while pinching the other. Emma could feel Regina's legs quivering beneath her as she sucked on her nipple. She pulled her head back and bit down on Regina's nipple. The brunette groaned loudly.
"Take your skirt off, Gina." Emma said breathlessly, "I want to see you. All of you."
Regina nodded, unbuttoned her skirt and pulled it down. Emma followed suit, taking her time and admiring Regina's body. The brunette's skin was soft and pale. Emma let out a small breath when she saw the small patch of curly hair between her legs.
"Like what you see?" Regina asked, spreading her thighs for Emma's view.
"Definitely," Emma smirked and dropped down to her knees, positioning herself in between Regina's thighs.
The brunette sucked in a breath, her eyes fluttering closed, "Yes."
Emma licked along Regina's pussy, flicking her tongue over her clit.
"Oh god," Regina moaned and gripped her hair, "Fuck, that feels good."
Emma felt a thrill of pleasure at the sound of Regina's moan. She continued licking along Regina's wet folds, slowly increasing her speed and intensity. She felt Regina's thighs clench and knew she was close to climax.
She moved her hand down and pushed two fingers into Regina, hooking them slightly as she pumped into the brunette.
Regina moaned loudly and tugged on Emma's hair, "Emma, baby, I'm close."
Emma nodded against Regina. Her lips wrapped around Regina's clit as she sucked softly.
Regina came suddenly, her back arching off the couch as she thrusted into Emma's mouth. The brunette moaned Emma's name, over and over again, as she rode out her orgasm.
Emma hummed around Regina and lapped up the brunette's juices. She pulled her mouth back and stood up, licking her lips clean.
"Come here," Emma guided Regina to stand, "I need you."
Regina smirked against Emma's lips, "You're gonna have me. I'll fuck you good."
"You promise?" Emma asked and kissed Regina again.
"I promise," she whispered, and tugged Emma to lie on top of her.
She slid her finger into Emma. Emma felt herself stretch around Regina's fingers and it made her clench around them. The brunette fucked Emma slowly, teasing her G-spot and making her squirm. She pushed two more fingers inside Emma and rubbed her clit, making Emma cry out as she came.
Regina leaned up and captured Emma's mouth, making sure Emma was relaxed before pushing inside her once again.
"You feel so good in me," Emma whispered against Regina's neck, "I love you."
"I love you," Regina whispered back, "You're so tight."
Regina made love to Emma, then. Her movements were soft and slow as she kissed down Emma's body, tasting every inch of her skin.

Emma was exhausted. From both the sex and the potion. Thankfully, the duo ended up in her bed. Emma fell asleep less than ten minutes after her third orgasm.
Waking up an hour later, she scanned her room. Regina was sitting at her dressing table, texting.
"Ruby is staying over at my place tonight. She's gonna watch Hen," Regina said when she noticed Emma staring.
Emma nodded. Not a second later, Emma had tears streaming down her face. She rolled over and buried her face in her pillow, trying to muffle her sobs.
"Hey," Emma heard Regina sit up next to her, "You okay?"
"I'm," Emma started sobbing harder, "I'm just - I - Regina. I feel so much pain. I feel empty."
"Where does it hurt, sweetheart?" Regina asked and gently moved the pillows away from Emma's face.
"In here," she pointed to her stomach, "It feels like someone ripped my organs out."
"Okay," Regina whispered, "Let me see."
Emma wiped the tears off her face and watched Regina lean over the bed, humming to herself. Her hands glowed as she moved them over Emma's stomach. After a few seconds, she sat back.
"Why do I feel this way?" Emma asked, more tears welling up in her eyes.
"You're mourning," Regina said simply, "You lost the baby and because magic took over from there, you were numb to the feeling. It's about to come flooding in, now that you've had the potion."
"I shouldn't have drank that. So what if I'm prone to accidents? Better than what I feel right now," Emma sobbed into her hands.
"Sure. If you didn't have it, by the time Henry turns 13, you'll be skin and bones. You'll have scars from all the mishaps, not to mention the malnutrition-" Regina made a short list.
"Okay, I get it," Emma interrupted.
"If you're open to it, I can schedule an appointment with Archie? He may be an annoying cricket but he did help me to deal with my own trauma," Regina offered.
Emma agreed, "That would be great, Gina."
