Sam's POV
I shook my head as I looked at Jake, Embry and Paul. Paul had said he would call Jordan's father to find out about if there is a way to find out what took over during the fight. From what Embry said her eyes had been purple, but both could turn her eyes that colour.
I glanced at Jake. "Is there any way we could order her to tell us how the fight actually started?"
Embry was the one to answer me though. "I was the first one to join the fight after it started. Jordan does not remember me coming into it. I had pulled 2 of the girls away from her, she should have been able to take notice of it."
Nodding I thought about what I needed. "I need to know who threw the first punch. At this point the girls who were on the other side, I am suspecting they are the ones who have been causing the problems at school for Jordan, Leah and Kim?" I looked between the three that were with me.
Jake nodded. "They have been getting worse. One of us should have gone with Jordan to her locker. That part of this is on us."
I nodded. "Though I am more worried about the situation if I am unable to hear Jordan's side of the story first."
Paul pulled out his phone dialing a number that I didn't recognize. He handed his phone to me making sure it was on speaker.
'Wordsworth' He answered.
Paul gestured for me to answer him though I didn't recognize the name or the voice.
"It's Sam Ulley." I answered.
Paul just shook his head taking the phone from my hand. "Wordy, it's Paul. I assume you know what happened at the school over lunch?"
'Yes, Sam told all of us. Rav was just the closest one, so he went to the school, what is this about?'
"We need to know a few things, was wondering if you could grab someone and head over to the beach so we can chat?"
'Can do, who am I grabbing?'
"Umm honestly not sure. We need someone who knows about defensive mode and purple eyes. The differences between them and how to get something that happened to come out into the open when one took over."
He was quiet for a second before he answered. 'Okay, I will grab someone. But it won't be someone you are expecting. Just hang tight. Should be about 15 min before I'm there.' With that he hung up.
I looked at Paul, "Any idea who he is grabbing?"
He shrugged. "Thinking maybe Ed but really, I'm not sure. I trust him though. He was the one we ran into at the beach that day."
I nodded going to the house, opening the back door. "Emily, we are heading to the beach to chat about a few things. Did Jordan say anything to you about the fight?"
She shook her head. "Not really other than telling me that if it was her defensive mode taking over that she would be able to recover the memories, but it wouldn't be easy. Also, Rav asked if you could call her father to let him know how she is getting from the station to here for the week?"
I nodded. "We are actually going to go meet up with at least one of her father's teammates right now so I will let them know or I will call Sam later tonight."
With that we left heading for the beach. When we got there a black SUV was just pulling up to the parking lot.
Wordy jumped out of the driver seat and someone I had never met came out of the passenger seat, I turned to Paul, "Do you know who that is?" I hissed out at him.
He shook his head but continued to walk towards Wordy and the newcomer. "I'm Paul," he pointed to me, "That's Sam," then introduced Embry and Jake.
He waved to us but looked up at Wordy for a second before Wordy explained to him. "Paul is Jordan's boyfriend for lack of a better term. Sam is the head of the reservation. Jake and Embry are just friends of theirs."
"Jordan won't be mad at me for doing this?"
I shook my head. "What we are trying to do is help Jordan out. She was in a fight this afternoon and I know the girls that were sent to the hospital are going to claim that she was the one who started the fight."
He looked at us shaking his head. "If you know that why do you need to know about her defensive mode or purple eyes?"
"Who are you first of all?" I asked him.
"My name is Anthony, though to most people I'm Tony, Jordan calls me Thor though. I work in the intelligence part of SRU. Usually when Jordan gets suspended, she spends the days with me, where she will flip flop between her work and helping me out with my stuff."
I nodded. "Okay. I know the girls who were in the fight against these guys have been causing issues with two of the other girls in the group. I know both Kim and Leah won't walk around alone without one of the guys in the school in case by chance they run into one of them."
He nodded. "But one-on-one with these girls Jordan would win." He thought for a moment. "Who was the first one to the fight?"
Embry raised his hand. "Though it had already started when I got there."
Tony just waved it off. "Don't worry about that. What colour were her eyes and what had just happened when you got there?"
"Her eyes were purple, but they were glinted that colour, it hadn't taken over completely. And her braid was being pulled by Kate."
He nodded. "Glinted purple is a good thing. It means it was her defensive mode that took over everything which means she was reacting to something. As long as they stayed glinted, we shouldn't have a problem recovering the entire fight."
I nodded to him. "Could something have happened to have changed them from the glinted?"
He nodded slowly before turning to Wordy and walking for the SUV. Wordy looked at Paul for a second before turning to me. "We got news earlier like between me picking Tony up and us getting here to the beach. Sam called and said that Jordan seems to have had another night terror. She is okay as she was able to stop it herself and didn't need any meds. However, the force that took for her to do it must have come from somewhere."
Paul looked at him. "What do you mean? Last time she wasn't able to stop it, it just happened right in front of me almost."
Wordy wiped his hands over his face. "Jordan has a reserve of power that she can call on and use at times. Though the longer it sits the smaller it gets. She would have had to have been pulling her punches during the fight today for her to have enough stored up to be able to stop a terror mid go. It also means she was using her purple eyes during the fight probably, so at one point they must have taken over on her."
I waved Paul's next comment off. "Does that affect us finding out how the fight started?"
Wordy shook his head. "No, it shouldn't. Though convincing Jordan to tell you is going to be the problem as she will just keep saying she doesn't remember and that would be the truth. She hasn't tried to remember what happened."
I thought for a moment. "Okay we might be able to ask her some general questions. I did promise the principal I would get who started the fight for him so they could be punished more severely."
Wordy pulled out his phone pressing one button on it.
'Central Intel'
He laughed for a second. "Ridley, question for you cause you track these things more than any of us do at work. Has there ever been a time when Jordan has been in a fight where it was her defensive mode that she threw the first punch?"
'Umm. Give me a sec.' we could hear wheels of a chair and a book being flipped through before he came back to the phone. 'Once. Though there is a note beside that.'
"What does the note say?" I asked him.
'To see Clark and Dean about it. Think it was when Dean was being picked on, the first punch in the fight was thrown at Dean but Jordan threw the second, but she wasn't a part of the fight before that, so the principal of the school had put it down that she had started it because the other kids punch never landed on Dean.'
I shook for a second. "So, she didn't start that fight."
'But she did. Dean was away from the fight by the time she threw her first punch. She didn't stop either until Clark pulled her off of the guy.' He paused for a second. 'Clark was able to find out what happened during a completely private conversation with Jordan, then he went to his father, and it took months for her to trust him again. I truthfully do not know if the trust has ever been that strong again since then.'
"Thanks Ridley."
'Oh Wordy, rumour has it that the little troublemaker is going to be at the station tomorrow because of this. Anyway, I could have her for the entire morning?'
Paul spoke up before Wordy could. "Why do you need her?"
Wordy laughed for a second. "Sure, you can. Though I don't know how much she will like being used like that my friend. You know how pissy she got last time you decided to do that."
'Yes well, I figure it could help matters this time. See if we can track anything out. Send me what you need, and I'll do my best. Chat tomorrow.' With that he hung up the phone leaving us speechless on the other end.
I turned to Wordy for a second. "If Jordan goes there tomorrow would the pickup location be the same as if it was just the station?"
Wordy nodded. "Yes, it would be. He runs the fun room, and he has a bunch of new recruits training tomorrow. So, it might be a bit after they arrive to pick her up that she will be still needed. That might give whoever is there a chance to actually talk to Team 1."
Paul nodded. "When we get to the front desk who do we ask for?"
Wordy smiled to him. "Just ask for team 1. Her father will get the final say as to if she goes with Ridley or not. Though if you need some information, he would be the one to get it out of her though that can wait until later in the week if needed."
I nodded to him. "If he can try to find out what started the fight, and who threw the first punch."
Wordy nodded to me before motioning to the SUV and started walking towards it. When we were far enough away for human ears to not listen, he looked at me. Though I very well knew that the other three would be listening to every word he said.
"I know you might not want to do this because of the damage it caused the last time. But Paul might be the only one who can get the answer, especially after the night terror. I can only guess that one of the girls said something to her that caused her to have it."
I looked at him. "You are saying that it is possible that it was caused on purpose?" I risked a glance towards Paul. Jake was speaking to him quietly and I could only imagine what he was saying to him.
"I think it is possible that Kelly and Jordan might have enough bad blood between them that this wasn't an accident." He glanced at Paul. "I think it might help if Paul could go over and see her after dinner tonight. I know there has been a bad situation between Jordan and Kelly since the move."
I nodded to him. "I'll make sure he goes over to see Jordan before he goes to bed tonight. Then him and Jake will be there to pick up Jordan tomorrow from the station. If you can let her father know that when you see him."
Wordy got into the SUV and left after informing me that he would let Sam know that those two would be at the station to pick Jordan up.
Paul was furious about the fact that Kelly and or Kate had managed to say something to Jordan to cause a night terror. Though how she had managed to push it off was beyond me, as I was under the impression that she was unable to do that.
Paul nodded as if he heard my thoughts. "All she has said to me is that she can sometimes, but she is really tired afterwards and it can cause nightmares at night too."
I nodded to Jake. "You and Paul are going to pick up Jordan at lunch tomorrow." I turned to Paul, "I know you are going to want to talk to her dad about a few things. So, I suggest you have dinner and then go over and see them. If this usually really exhausts her, then I think you can chat with her a bit. Say your good nights to her and then talk to Sam about what you need to."
He nodded and started back for the house.
Jake looked at me then motioned for Embry to go after Paul. He wanted to chat for a few minutes alone with me.
"If we can't get what we need by Wednesday night I think it would be time for you to pull what you can with Paul for Thursday afternoon. If that doesn't work maybe Ridley can try with Jordan on Friday. As we both know she didn't start the fight today."
I shook my head at him. "No, we don't. We can guess and speculate but we don't know for sure who started the fight or threw the first punch. All we have is past details and what she said to you on the weekend."
He gulped then nodded. "She said she would try to walk away. When we got to her, she was a good 2 doorways away from her locker, but Embry was about at her locker. It would seem that she tried to walk away at least once."
I laughed for a second and started walking for the house. "I was told she was a good negotiator. If that was the case, there shouldn't have been a fight."
Jake nodded. "True, but I want you to think about this. If she tried to walk away from a few of them then got caught trying to get back to the cafeteria. She was heading in that direction it looked like. She had promised Paul she would be back before going to class with Embry."
I thought about that for a second. "Okay, say what you are suggesting is correct. Why wouldn't she have just texted you or Paul about the situation. She knows who both of you are to her and to this pack."
That had him shrugging. "We don't know enough. But we shouldn't have let her leave the cafeteria alone at lunch. We knew the four of them have been trying to get to Jordan alone and we let that happen."
I looked at him, stopping the pace to the house and forcing him to look at me. "How long have they been trying to get Jordan alone?"
Jake shrugged. "Paul would know for sure. We have been walking with her between classes she has always had at least one of us or Leah with her in case something happened. Well until today at lunch, it wasn't until the text from Embry that I realized the mistake we had made."
I nodded and continued walking again. "I think that right now I will hold off on my visit to the hospital, I don't exactly want to have Kate's father mad at me, but I think if she is the one who started this then I want to give Jordan the chance to say that it was her first."
Jake nodded and thanked me as we got to the house. Emily had broken the usual rule and was letting Embry and Paul eat first. I knew that Paul was going to be eating but I didn't know that Embry was. When I glanced between the two of them and the food. Paul answered me.
"Embry is going to join me over at Jordan's."
I nodded, calling the rest of the pack to come and get dinner. Kim was already eating though she seemed a little angry about the entire situation that had happened over lunch. I knew that Jared was going to try and smooth it over, or at least he was going to want to try and do that.
Paul's POV
When we were done eating Embry looked at me. "Do you think she is grounded again?" He asked as we started our walk over.
I shook my head. "No, though her dad is probably mad at her for the fight. I know the last time that he promised to talk to Sam before doing anything like that. Plus, if she was grounded her going over to Sam's would not have been happening and would not be happening tomorrow afternoon."
When we got to the house he smiled as we could hear Jordan arguing with someone inside though it wasn't about anything bad. When we got to the door and knocked, I could hear her yell that she was going to go get the door.
"School work going good for tomorrow so far?" Embry asked.
She glared at him. "Actually, haven't started it yet, I can't start on anything yet because we don't even have our booklets for class. So, I am working on some of the Quileute stuff that Seth gave me today cause I had that in my bag."
I gave her a funny look before she giggled. "Usually when we finish our quiz in health class the teacher lets me go work on it with Embry in the back of the room. That way it is safer than trying to wander the halls to get to the library."
Wordy appeared at the door as we were talking. "Are you going to invite them inside or just stand there and talk to them?"
She laughed though did not move aside. "And let Ridley get a hold of Paul. I think we will wait for that until a much later date."
Wordy laughed. "Could always happen tomorrow when he comes to pick you up."
She turned to glare at him. "That is against the rules. Plus, I will know when Paul leaves La Push tomorrow hopefully so I can pretty much time it."
I smiled at her, something about Ridley did freak me out a bit too so. "I could always let Embry go with Jake to pick her up."
She hugged me before letting us come inside.
"Have you had dinner yet?" Embry asked her.
She nodded then yawned. "Actually, getting a little sleepy."
When a young man walked in wearing round thin rimmed glasses. I tilted my head at him thinking he almost looked like harry potter. The thought made me almost start giggling.
She noticed him as well though she didn't do anything that told me that she was afraid of this person and me actually getting to meet. "Dr. Jackson" she greeted then giggled. "Shouldn't you be heading home since you have a bunch of new recruits you have to work with?"
He smiled and stuck his hand out to me and Embry. "I'm Ridley." He turned to me. "You must have been the protective one on the phone earlier."
Jordan turned very slowly to him. "You have no business here."
He laughed. "Actually, I needed a word with your father about tomorrow. You see these recruits are going to be being placed with different teams and Team one gets first pick at them." He walked towards the table waving his hand for us to follow him. "It would be nice to get a proper introduction to these two, Jordan."
She shook her head and stood her ground against him. "No, I think you need to go home. As for these two I'm sure they have some work to do as they are probably still just as suspended as I am."
Embry looked at her. "What do you mean, probably still just as suspended?"
Jordan looked down at her hands for a second before I wrapped her in my arms, starting to walk towards her room with her. Nudging Embry to come the same way. When we got there Jordan settled on her bed hugging one of her pillows.
"Guess the principal went to the hospital. One of the girls that was in the fight had woken up and blamed the entire thing on me. Said I came looking for them over lunch and then attacked them for no reason. Then the principal called my dad and explained to him that I had started the fight, so the girls are only being kept in the hospital until Thursday, but they aren't facing any other consequences."
I looked at Embry. "How is that possible? I mean he said he was going to leave it to Sam to find out what happened."
Embry looked grim. "Any idea who woke up?"
She shook her head. "It is so unfair though. I can't remember anything from the fight but now I am being blamed at the start of it."
Embry snapped his fingers as if he had remembered something. Though when my eyes met his, he shook his head. Whatever he had just thought of didn't want Jordan to know about.
"Jordan, we talked to Wordy and Thor this afternoon. They explained what we saw would have been you reacting to something. When we were talking on the weekend, you had told Jake about what the deal was last time your defensive mode took over. Your father even confirmed it a while back that unless you were provoked you wouldn't start a fight." He explained to her.
She gave him a funny look. "Okay, I mean that is great. But I honestly don't know what good it is going to do us now?"
I laughed for a second, then I tapped her forehead. "Silly girl. Sam has more power than the principal so he can overrule him."
Embry smiled. "And we have a way to prove it wasn't you who threw the first punch."
I looked at Jordan as we replied at the same time. "We do?"
Embry nodded. "We will need Sam's help, but we do. It wouldn't have picked up any words that were said but we have a way to do that." He then leaned over and whispered to me. "I completely forgot about something. Don't kill me and Jake for this but we may have just found a way to save all of our butts. We have to go; we need to grab Sam and get this sorted now."
I nodded to him as he got up and walked for the door. I looked at Jordan, running my fingers through her hair. "Leave this down tomorrow. And let me know if you want me to send Embry instead of me to pick you up from the station." I thought for a second remembering back to the first real time she had left me with the group of her father's coworkers. "Are we going to be able to leave without the million questions being asked?"
She shrugged. "If you get caught just yell back down the hallway and I will come and rescue you from the wonderful Dr. Jackson." She winked at me going for her dresser.
I scratched my head for a second. "Is he really a doctor?" I mean he didn't look like any doctor I had ever met.
She shook her head. "Nope, inside joke. I might explain it to you one day, but not today. I know he looks like Harry Potter, but we have a different inside joke."
I nodded to her before kissing her. "Have a good night and I will see you tomorrow. Let me know about Embry."
She nodded as we walked down the hall. Wordy was in the living room with her dad, we both looked around before someone came up behind us.
"Looking for someone?" Wordy asked us.
I nodded. "Ridley, I assume he has about as many questions as you lot did."
Her father laughed. "He is in the bathroom, or at least he was. Maybe you should hurry out if you have to."
A laugh came from behind us as both Embry and I went for the door.
"Now Sam you are spoiling my fun."
Sam just laughed. "You can be fully introduced to them tomorrow or at least one of them. I have a feeling that if Paul was to yell down the hall to Jordan that she would come out here and kick your butt for being mean to Paul."
He laughed. "Okay, fine go do what you have to."
I looked at Sam. "Sam said something about you needing to talk to me about something."
He nodded. "Actually yes. But if this other thing is time sensitive, we can chat tomorrow."
Embry nodded. "It is. We have a feeling that the girl in the hospital lied. So, we need Sam's help, but we have a way to prove what happened."
Sam nodded. "Well, that will be good. Go do what you need to, we will chat tomorrow. Either when you come at noon with Jake or when we pick up Jordan after work."
We ran for Sam's place after leaving Jordan's. When we got there Embry let out the usual signal that we were back that had Sam coming out the back door.
"Grab Jake." He yelled to Sam when he was at the door.
When he and Jake came out the door and onto the back porch, they looked at us. I pointed to Embry because I had no clue what this was about.
Embry turned to Jake. "Remember that last issue with Jordan?"
He nodded, though he still seemed confused as to where this conversation was going.
"The camera that we set up in Quil's locker, the thing would still be recording. With where Jordan was it may have gotten a good part of the fight."
Sam glared at him. "That camera is still recording?"
Embry nodded. "We put one in Jordan's locker too. We had Leah put it in there that afternoon."
I looked at Sam. "I'm not upset about this, I know they were just trying to help. But we have a bigger problem, the principal, Mr. Green went to the hospital and the girls are blaming Jordan for starting the fight. Said she went after them."
Jake grabbed my arm. "Would she have done that?"
I shook my head. "No. She was going to grab her Quileute and health books then she was coming back to the cafeteria because we hadn't said goodbye to each other yet for the afternoon."
Sam shook his head for a second trying to figure out what I actually meant.
"Sometimes because it is just booklets in history and chemistry, she gets really antsy. So, before the end of lunch if I am working for the afternoon, we go outside and make out a bit. It tends to calm her nerves enough that she isn't going stir crazy all afternoon."
Embry nodded. "It really helps when we have health class."
Sam nodded running his hands through his hair. "Okay so what do you need to check the cameras?"
Embry glanced at me quickly. "We need to get into Jordan's and Quil's lockers. Quil should be easy, but Jordan is going to be a bit harder."
Sam nodded. "She gone to bed yet?" He asked me.
I nodded. "I can call Wordy he might still be over there, see if he can get us her locker combination."
Jake nodded. "Do that. Even if he has to wake her, the cameras will have recorded over the save on the memory card."
I walked away pulling out my phone. I dialed the house number figuring that Sam or Wordy might be able to help me out. Though it wasn't a voice that I recognized that answered the phone.
'Braddock residence.'
"It's Paul, is Sam around?"
'Ya, one sec. Sam phone'
'Braddock'
"Sam, it is Paul. I know it is late, but we need Jordan's locker combination."
'Okay, I'll bite why do you need that?'
"There is a camera in her locker. The guys put it there to make sure that she stayed safe after the incident with her uncle. We think it might have captured the fight, there were two in that hallway we want to get both of them."
'Okay, one second. Ridley, I need my phone. Thanks.'
"You have it on your phone?"
'Ya, she texted it to me. Safety feature. 13-03-25 that is all you need.'
I nodded. "Yes. Thanks. Hopefully this will allow Sam to overrule the decision that the principal has made about the fight."
With that we hung up. 2 minutes later my phone dinged at me. 'in case you forget it 13-03-25. Delete this text when you are done.'
I walked back to the group. Quil was standing outside. "I have Jordan's locker combination."
Sam nodded. "We need to get going. We are going to just grab the cameras we can look at them when we get here."
Quil and I both nodded to him. "At least this means I won't have to tell Jordan about this camera that somehow managed to get into her locker."
Quil just laughed as Sam snickered about the moment. At the school when we got to the two lockers Sam watched over as we grabbed them. When we got out of the school, we walked to the edge of the forest so we could look at the video that had recorded.
I just walked away after handing the camera which was in Jordan's locker to Sam. I didn't want to see what it showed. In fact, I was still rather mad about the fact that they had managed to do this without me noticing, or Jordan noticing for that matter.
Quil came over putting a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm sure by what Embry said that she wouldn't have started the fight."
I just nodded to him. "But do you really think that we are going to be able to use this without Jordan asking questions."
Sam came over looking at the two of us. "Jordan took her hair being pulled and 2 punches before she fired her first. I am going to take this to the principal in the morning and explain to him that she wasn't the one who started the fight." He placed a hand on my shoulder. "I will call her father in the morning and explain that we have proof that she didn't start the fight, she even tried to walk away from it only I still need to know what was said."
He sent Quil on his way for a few minutes letting me think.
"I know that the conversation is going to be hard. I can give you an out, though it is risky."
I looked up at him. "What is your idea? And why would it be risky?"
He pointed to the picnic table that was just off of school property. I giggled thinking about what Jordan had called it after talking to Kim concerning it the one day at school.
"The idea is that you tell her I ordered it to be put there, the morning we found out about the uncle. I feared he would come after her within the school walls. The risk would be that if she ever were to ask the wrong person when she is phased if that is the course this is going that it would come out as a lie, and we could be faced with a bigger problem."
I nodded. "Pissed off werewolf is never a good idea."
Sam smiled. "The choice is yours. The only ones who knew about this were Jake, Embry and Quil."
I looked up at him. "Leah knew about the one in Jordan's locker. She was the one who put it there at least."
Sam nodded. "I guess you are right. But make a decision about what you plan to do and then let us know at breakfast tomorrow. I heard though that you might be sending Embry instead of you with Jake tomorrow to pick up Jordan."
I shrugged. "Something to do with Ridley. Jordan doesn't seem comfortable leaving the two of us alone together. Her father even seems a bit taken back by the guy."
Sam nodded. "It is your decision who goes to pick her up. Though I would not advice you going alone. I can see in this video that you weren't the ones to start this face and that you were defending each other and one of our own. It does show however all of you looking at Jordan some time after Mr. Green arrives which at least confirms that part of the story."
I looked down. "That is not something I want to discuss." I started walking away and although he just walked beside me he let me continue to walk in silence until we reached his yard.
