Episode 2: The Beast Beneath the Waves
Chapter 2 Beneath the Waves
The sun had long dipped beneath the horizon, and the vast ocean was now a dark expanse stretching endlessly in every direction. The sea seemed to hold its breath, the only sound the soft creaking of the small dinghy as it rocked gently on the water. Kai K World sat alone, his eyes scanning the darkness around him, the vast, empty sea pulling him deeper into its grip.
He had been drifting for days, the village of East Bellevue now a distant memory. It wasn't much, but the small dinghy was his first step toward the Grand Line, toward the adventure he had always dreamed of. There were no maps, no grand plans—just the sea, and Kai, with only his wits and the skills his father had taught him.
A cold wind blew across the water, sending a shiver down Kai's spine. He tugged the cloak tighter around his shoulders, squinting into the night. The moon hung high in the sky, casting silver light on the choppy water. For a moment, everything seemed peaceful. Too peaceful.
Something feels off…
Before Kai could react, the water around his dinghy surged violently, sending a wave crashing against the side. The boat rocked fiercely, and Kai instinctively grabbed the side to steady himself. His heart pounded in his chest, and his instincts screamed that danger was near.
A massive shadow surged beneath the waves, moving with terrifying speed.
Kai's eyes widened. "No... it can't be."
He was frozen for a moment, the memories rushing back like a tidal wave.
Seven Years Ago, East Bellevue
Kai was no more than ten years old when it happened. The day started like any other—his father had been away on one of his long voyages, and his mother was tending the bar in the village. Kai had been exploring near the cliffs, far from the safety of the village.
It was there, at the edge of the rocky shoreline, where the creature had found him. The beast had risen from the depths of the ocean, a monstrous hybrid of shark and bear, with the body of a great, predatory shark and the ferocious claws of a bear. Its eyes were a cold, soulless yellow, its teeth sharp and gleaming in the sunlight as it roared in rage.
Kai had no idea how it had appeared so suddenly, but it attacked with a speed and ferocity that caught him completely off guard. The creature had lunged toward him, slashing with its claws, and before Kai could react, one of those claws had raked across his chest, leaving a jagged scar that would remain with him forever.
His heart had raced as he stumbled back, barely avoiding its snapping jaws. The sea monster's roar had echoed in his ears as it circled, preparing for another attack. But just as Kai thought it would be his last day on earth, his father had appeared like a storm, his massive form charging in from the horizon. Kaizer K World had fought the beast back, his legendary strength overwhelming the monster as he drove it away with an onslaught of attacks. It wasn't long before the creature had retreated into the depths, vanishing beneath the waves with a final, menacing growl.
Kaizer had turned to his son, his expression hard, but there had been a flicker of concern in his eyes. "That's a beast you don't forget," he'd said, a grim tone in his voice. "It's called the Sharkbear—a cursed creature from the deepest parts of the sea. One day, it will return. And when it does, you'll be ready."
Kai had nodded, the memory of the pain from the creature's claws still fresh in his mind. He'd sworn to himself that day, as he stood there with his father's protective hand on his shoulder, that he would get stronger. Strong enough to face the Sharkbear again. Strong enough to make it pay for what it had done to him.
Now, out in the open sea, Kai felt the chilling presence of the creature once more. The waves surged violently, crashing against his small boat. The water began to churn and froth as something massive moved just beneath the surface.
He could hear the unmistakable sound of something breaking through the water—a deep, rumbling growl that made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end.
"You've got to be kidding me," Kai muttered to himself, clutching the sides of the dinghy with both hands. His heart raced, but there was no fear in his eyes—only resolve.
The water exploded as the Sharkbear burst from beneath the surface, its massive jaws snapping hungrily as it rose into the air, its dark, shark-like body writhing with terrifying speed. The creature's bear-like claws slashed through the air as it let out an ear-splitting roar that made the sea itself seem to tremble.
Kai's blood ran cold, but he stood his ground. The creature had come for him—he knew it. But this time, he was no longer the frightened boy he once was.
"You," Kai whispered through gritted teeth, his grip tightening around the boat's edge. "It's you. You've come back."
The Sharkbear let out another roar, its yellow eyes locking onto Kai. Its body was enormous, a true monstrosity, covered in dark, slick scales. Its claws were like jagged knives, capable of slicing through steel. And its teeth, sharp and jagged like a shark's, gleamed in the moonlight as it lunged toward the dinghy.
Kai's pulse quickened, but his thoughts were clear. The moment had come. He had sworn that he would get revenge on this creature, and he would do it now, with everything he had.
In one swift motion, Kai unsheathed the small sword that had been strapped to his back. It was no grand weapon—just a basic cutlass—but it had served him well enough during his training. Now, it was his only defense.
The Sharkbear lunged at him with terrifying speed, its massive claws aiming for his boat. Kai leapt to the side just in time, narrowly avoiding the creature's swipe as it crashed into the side of the dinghy. The force of the impact sent the small boat rocking violently, and Kai barely managed to keep his balance as the Sharkbear circled, preparing for another strike.
Kai's mind raced as he dodged the next swipe. He couldn't let the beast hit the boat—it would destroy everything he'd worked for. His eyes narrowed, and with a roar of his own, he charged forward, dodging the monster's jaws as he brought his sword down toward the creature's side. The Sharkbear snarled in pain, but it didn't retreat.
"You'll pay for what you did to me," Kai gritted, his voice low but filled with an undeniable fury.
The Sharkbear responded with a savage roar, its claws slashing out again. Kai ducked beneath one of its strikes, narrowly avoiding the razor-sharp claws that could easily shred through flesh. With a deep breath, he focused, remembering everything his father had taught him—every move, every strike. This wasn't just about revenge. This was about proving that he had grown stronger.
With a powerful swing, Kai slashed the Sharkbear across its side, drawing blood. The beast howled in pain and fury, but Kai didn't stop. He kept attacking, moving with a speed and precision that surprised even him. His body was full of energy, the culmination of years of training with Kaizer coming to fruition.
The Sharkbear, now bloodied and enraged, made one final attempt to strike. But Kai was faster. With a clean swipe, he drove his sword deep into the creature's exposed underbelly. The monster let out a deafening scream as it writhed in agony, its claws thrashing wildly. And with a final, monstrous roar, it plunged back into the depths of the ocean, vanishing beneath the waves.
Kai stood there, panting heavily, his chest rising and falling as he watched the water settle. His sword was slick with the creature's blood, and the scar on his chest—though still a reminder of that fateful day—didn't sting anymore. It was a part of him now, a part of the man he had become.
"I'm not a kid anymore," Kai muttered to himself, staring at the rippling water. "I'll take on whatever the Grand Line throws at me."
The battle was over. But Kai K World knew that this was just the beginning. The sea was vast, and there were many more beasts, pirates, and challenges awaiting him.
Kai suddenly remembered a strange fruit his father gave him so he searches for it on the boat.
"There it is", Kai said, looking at the strange fruit. It's shape was not like any other fruit out there.
It was shaped like a rainbow. Kai saw a note next to the fruit so he picked it up. The note said "Kai, if you are reading this, this fruit I gave you, this is a devil fruit. The fruit was called the "Iro Iro No Mi" or the Color-Color Fruit. This fruit if eaten, will give you the abilities to change an objects color at will. It will also give you the ability to be a good artist and whatever you draw will turn into real life".
Kai reads all of this and is fascinated. He eats the fruit and is disgusted beacause it tastes like wet cardboard. He still eats the whole fruit and he feels power coursing through his veins and body. After a couple seconds, he tries to test his new powers so he touches his small dinghy with his hand and says "Red" and now, the boat is now color red. Kai changes it to other colors and decides that the boat should be color black.
This was just the beginning to Kai's journey.
See you at the sea pirate.
