"So, you wanna tell the viewers what we're doing?" I asked, turning the camera on Bonnie as she struck a pose with a peace sign while holding a passport in the other hand.
We both stood by the airport as other people walked past us with curious and amused gazes. My cheeks reddened at the attention, trying to hold the camera high enough while in my wheelchair.
"Me and Briant are going to Paldea to see all the cute Pokemon!" Bonnie grinned as I sighed, turning the camera toward my blank face.
"Correction: Bonnie is going to Paldea to see the 'cute Pokemon.' Meanwhile, I-"
"Are going to reunite with your lovely girlfriend!" Bonnie cut me off with a cheeky smile.
"S-She is not my girlfriend!" I stuttered, dropping the camera. Thankfully, this is Clemont's invention, so naturally, it begins to hover. "And I'm there to take time off and recover, and we haven't even talked since last year!"
"For now at least!" she snickered, "I wonder what Ion-"
"Okay, that's it for today folks, like, comment, and subscribe for more!" I shouted with a red face.
"Briant! You didn't let me finish-" Bonnie complained in the background.
"I'm FennekFighter, and see you next time!" My hands fumbled on the button before eventually finding it and shutting the camera off. I shot Bonnie a glare as I buried my face in my scarf. "You are such an as-"
"What was that?" My mom walked toward us with Clover and Clemont beside her.
"An uhh as... aspiriring trainer! That's what I meant!" I frantically nod my head as I look over at Bonnie who smirks, shrugging her shoulders.
"Uh-huh..." she smirked with eyes that saw past my lies.
Clemont sighed, "We both wanted to see you both off before you go. Make sure you have everything and all."
"Sounds like something you would do Big bro..." Bonnie pouted.
Clemont sighed before turning toward me, "I also came with one final surprise gift for you. The terrain in Paldea is quite uneven, so a normal wheelchair wouldn't do well." He then grinned smugly as he pushed his glasses up, "The future is now, thanks to science! Clemontic gear on! My 'Super Portable Wheeler Climber' will help you drive smoothly over the roughest terrain!"
Bonnie slapped her head, "So... a portable wheelchair?"
Clemont coughed, "Y-Yes... I suppose you could call it that. You see my wheelchair is not only able to work on any surface. It also folds into itself, shrinking down four times its original size! Electronics and all!"
"...And it won't go boom?" Bonnie deadpanned.
"No," Clemont scoffed as he shot her a glare. "It won't go 'boom.' It's perfectly safe, I tested it ten times over."
She shrugged playfully, "Whatever you say big bro."
"We also decided to give you something as well Bonnie," Cover grinned.
"You do!?" Bonnie squealed in excitement as she rushed over to her and Clemont.
"Well, it seemed only fair that we got you something as well," Clemont ran his hand through his hair. With a grin, he shuffled his hand in his pocket, searching for something before pulling out a Pokeball and holding it out.
Bonnie tilted her head in confusion, "Huh? I don't get it, I got everything from the professor." Clemont shook his head.
"This isn't just any Pokeball Bonnie, it's one of mine." He pauses before laughing sheepishly, "Well, more like 'technically mine.'"
"Technically mine?" she repeated dumbly before her eyes widened. "N-No way, that's-"
Clemont grinned, "Yep, all yours now. After everything you two have been through, you deserve it."
Bonnie's eyes sparkled with emotions as tears began to well up. In an instant, Clemont was tackled into a hug. "You're the best big bro! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" With the brightest smile, she took the Pokeball just as Dedenne poked his head out of her pouch with a questioning look.
"Nenene?"
"Dedenne, remember this?" she asked, presenting the ball in front of him. His eyes widened as his tiny paw clicked the button. "Yes, I caught Dedenne!" Bonnie spun around with a tearful smile. I noticed that even Clemont and Clover were tearing up.
"I already talked to Professor Sycamore and he agreed to register Dedenne as your Pokemon," he explained.
"Dedenne, I choose you!" Bonnie through her Pokeball up into the air, releasing the Pokemon onto the ground who scurried up her shoulder. Quickly, both nuzzled against each other's cheeks as they giggled.
"Uh, Bonnie," I warned as sparks began to flare up.
"Huh? What, gha!" Bonnie shrieked as electricity ran through her hair, causing it to poof up. Bonnie looked at Dedenne dumbly as he sheepishly smiled. She continued until a snort broke the silence, before any of us knew it, they broke into full-blown laughter, drawing more attention to us; much to my dismay.
It took a second before she regained her composure. "I'll miss you, big bro..." she said before the two siblings embraced once more.
000
"Well, I guess this is it," Clover sighed.
"Yeah, I definitely won't miss Bonnie's attempts to get people to date me," Clemont joked, causing Clover to let out a nervous chuckle.
"I don't know, you and Korrina seem awfully close these days," Bonnie playfully wiggled her brows. Clemont's body stiffened, much to her delight. Her arm pat me on the shoulder, "Besides, I have a new victim!"
I groaned as Clemont gave me a sympathetic look.
"Well, looks like the plane will take off any menute, let's all head out," Mom informed us.
"Make sure you call me when you get there!" Clemont yelled.
"Don't worry, I will!" Bonnie spun around to wave before we both left.
000
"Briant, Briant, look!" Bonnie's frantic tapping on my shoulder caused me to shoot up from the stiff seats.
"Wha- What's goin' on?" I groggily look over to her, pointing at the window. It didn't take long for my eyes to widen as glass skyscrapers towered over every building and colorful lights illuminated the night city. Multiple advertisements lined the buildings and circular bridge with one catching my eye of Iono grinning at the camera.
Bonnie looked out the window, "This city is incredible, I've never seen so many lights, not even in Lumiose." She glanced at me with a sly grin, "Though I suppose you're probably thinking of someone else."
"Listen here you-"
"Attention Please, this is your captain speaking, thank you for choosing Maranga Flights, welcome to Levincia," The captain cut my words off.
I shot her a lighthearted glare, "you're lucky this time."
"Yeah Yeah, whatever, let's go!" Bonnie's hand latched onto mine as she was preparing to drag me off.
"Ahem... What are you doing?" I asked.
"What do you mean? I'm dragging you off the plane!" She whined.
"Yeah, uh, legs... remember?" I stared, pointing at my legs.
"A-Ah..."
"Yeah, 'ah' is right," I said, flicking her forehead in the process.
We both reluctantly waited as we watched people shuffle out of the plane, realizing it was quickly becoming awkward as the loud chatter dimmed, leaving the two of us. "So, uh... Levincia, huh?" I coughed out.
"Y-Yeah seems exciting... so many people, I bet there are tons of new things to discover!" Bonnie grinned, her eyes sparkling, reflecting the city lights.
"Of course, you say that," I sigh. "Do you know where we're staying?"
Bonnie shook her head but before she could speak, a flight attendant walked up to us. "Do you need some help, sir?" she asked politely. I could see some confusion as to why we were sitting on the plane.
"U-Uh... we're waiting on my mom to get the baggage," I murmured, digging my mouth into my scarf. Despite my muffled voice, she seemed to get the memo. With a quick bow, she left. The two of us both stared awkwardly at the floor with the only one clear question, "Please hurry up, Please hurry up, Please hurry up."
Thankfully, it seemed that Arceus answered our plea as Mom rushed to our seats, panting with my Braixen following close behind. "I am so sorry! It took me so long to find a wheelchair. Clemont texted me and said that his wheelchair should be at the hotel we're staying at."
"I-It's fine, let's just get out of here."
"Sure... Braixen, could you help me?" My face paled.
000
"Ugh... This was so humiliating," I groaned into my hands. My mom sent me an apologetic smile as Bonnie unhelpfully snickered. Out of all the things, never had I felt so humiliated being picked up like a small child.
"It's not that bad," Bonnie shrugged.
"Says you, you're not strapped into the wheelchair!" I complained. Bonnie's teasing remarks were certainly not helping the situation. Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything about it, unless I wanted to add more fuel to her endless fire. So, I decide to shut up for the time; albeit reluctantly. I tried to ignore the glances as Bonnie pushed my wheelchair with Mom and Braixen walking closely behind.
It wasn't until we got out of the airport that I realized how breathtaking the scenery was. While seeing the lights at a distance was already a sight to behold, seeing it up close was downright magical. Even Bonnie stopped pushing, I couldn't see but I assumed her mouth was as agape as I was. Lumiose city, as large as it was; failed to compare to the sheer amount of life that this city breathed.
The ground vibrated with life as music played through the city and it wasn't until we heard a family tune ring did our attention move toward the board.
"Ladies and gentlemens! Your eyeballs are MINE - caught in my Electroweb! Whosawhatsit? Iono! Welcome to Levincia, the hometown of yours truly! Levincia first started in..." The voice of Iono instantly grabbed my attention as my head snapped toward the small sign that played a clip of Iono squinting at the camera as if she was trying to read something. "Wowzah! Thatsalotta words! Y'know what? I don't want to backseat for you, go out and explore the city, you'll find something you like!"
"Well... that's certainly something she'd say," I sigh. I remember recalling the previous conversations, always complaining whenever she had to give a speech or read, pretty much winging it.
"Of course, you would know something like that," Bonnie teased, cupping a hand over her mouth while giving me side eyes.
"Bonnie, don't you need to call you big brother?" I said in a sing-song voice.
"Oh, crap! I totally forgot!" Bonnie screeched as she hastily dug into her pocket for her phone, almost dropping it in the process. "Three miss-calls!?" I turn my waist uncomfortably to see her panicked expression as she frantically types his phone number. "B-Big brother, hi there!"
"Bonnie! Do you know hold long I have been trying to wait. It's been an hour! I told you to call me as soon as you guys arrived!" Clemont lightly chided her.
"W-Well, actually-"
"Actually it's partially my fault," My mom apologized, lightly bowing. Clemont's face relaxes slightly.
"O-Oh, it's fine Ma'am! It's just been so quiet without Bonnie here," he explains, letting out a sigh.
"My, already miss me? At least you have Korrina to keep you-"
"Alrightthat'sallIwantedgottagobye!" Clemont stammered, hanging up.
I looked at her, "Gremlin." There was truly no other word to describe her.
"You know it," she grinned.
Shaking my head, I turn my attention to my mom. "So what hotel are we staying in?"
"Um... actually, we're staying in Medali..." My mom apologetically smiled.
"Like, the hotel name?"
She shook her head, "No, the town we're staying in."
"Mom... that's closeby... right?"
"It's on the other side of Paldea... but don't worry, I ordered a flying taxi so we'll be able to... Briant? Briant!"
"You killed him!" Bonnie screeched.
000
"I was so close but so far away..." I whined, lazily stretching my hand out toward the door while sprawling across the carpet floor.
"It's fine, you'll see your girlfriend soon," Bonnie said nonchalantly while scrolling through her phone.
"She's not my girlfriend!" I snapped, sitting up.
"Well, that certainly made you snap out of it," she snickered. "Though it does suck, it was huge. That place is definitely going on our bucket list!"
"You know, you two should really go to bed... it is pretty late," Mom walked up to us.
"Boo..." Bonnie pouted, rolling over on her stomach while mindlessly kicking her legs. "I really wanted to see the new wheelchair."
"Don't worry, you'll see it tomorrow. For now, just go get some rest," she said with slight amusement at Bonnie's childish whining.
"Ugh..." I groan when I notice two furry black legs in front of me. "Not again- wait... what are you-" Without another word, Braixen wrapped her paw around my hand.
I tilt my head up just enough to see the mischievous glint in her eye. "Braix!" She starts dragging me into my bedroom.
"Ah! Braixen no... the rug burns! You're gonna make me get rug burns! Ouch!" I shouted as I heard snickering from outside.
000
"Brai?" Braixen sat on my bedside as I pouted. Despite her dragging me against my will, I didn't mind it, but she didn't need to know that. With what I assumed to be a sigh, she laid down beside me. I felt a subtle warmth fill me as I buried my face into her fur.
It didn't take long for her breathing to lull me to sleep.
000
"Well, there he goes," Bonnie giggled with amusement.
"Well, should probably also go to sleep. So the both of you can go on your adventure," his mother chuckled.
"Roger ma'm!" she saluted, pulling out the bed from the couch. Without hesitation, she faceplanted into her pillow. She wouldn't admit it, the entire trip was exhausting. She made a promise to herself: never stay up till two again.
As she fell asleep, the room fell quiet, and Briant's mom smiled while humming. "Oh Arceus, please protect these kids."
000
It was eleven in the morning when the alarm rang, causing me to shoot out of bed. Braixen yipped in annoyance as I looked over and noticed her glaring at me as she fell onto the floor.
"Sorry," I give an apologetic smile. She huffs, motioning to the door as if to say 'get out.'
"Would if I could Braixen, would if I could," I shook my head. "Can you get mom?"
Braixen, despite her annoyance, complied. Leaving me alone with my thoughts as I stared endlessly at the ceiling fan.
It didn't take long for Mom to stumble into my room, still in the process of waking up. "G'mornin'," she slurred, rubbing her eyes.
"Rough night?" I teasingly asked.
She nodded, picking my arm up while Braixen helped prop the other arm. Eventually, we all managed to get in her room where she sat me next to an already-awake Bonnie sprawled on the couch, mindlessly flicking through channels. Her face lit up as she noticed my presence. "Oh you're up!"
"Yeah, anything exciting on?"
"No, just boring nonsense," she sighs, turning it off.
"So, can we finally see it! I couldn't sleep last night just thinking about Clemont's present!" she said.
"Yeah, its outside so get ready!"
000
I stared blankly at the uniquely designed chair. It was sleek and made of elegant metallic material. Fortunately, orange padding lined its surface. "Well, it's certainly a chair..."
Slowly, Briaxen and my mom helped me into the chair. Shockingly, the padding cushioned my back as I let out a sigh of contentment. "So, how do I... move..." I trailed off as I looked in horror at the controls. Knobs, dials, switches, joysticks, and several smaller monitors lined the armrests.
Bonnie stepped back, "Uh... Isn't that a little, extra?"
"Well, don't worry, if you want to know more, all you have to do is read this little booklet..." She sighed before she pulled out a book that had to be hundreds of pages thick.
Bonnie walked over, grabbing the book from Mom, almost dropping it in the process. "What the—This is even heavier than a Snorlax! What is even in this thing!?" Setting the book down, she plopped it on the paved sidewalk, flicking page after page.
Squinting my eyes, I could barely make out the hundreds of words on the page with several technical images and diagrams. "Welp, looks like we won't need this," Bonnie sighed, slamming the book shut.
"Are you sure I can't just use a normal wheelchair?"
"Briant!" Mom hissed. "You know very well how hard Clemont prepared this for you, at least give it a chance."
"Alright, let's see..." I glanced around the armrests for any clues. As I searched, praying that whatever I picked didn't kill me, my phone began to vibrate. "Guess that's Clemont."
Taking my phone from my pocket, I was shocked to see that it wasn't from Clemont, but instead flashed the words, "New signal detected, please insert the device."
"Device, what dev-" My words cut off as a small hatch opened in one of my armrests, perfectly shaped like my Rotom phone. As soon as I placed the phone inside, the device snapped shut. "Did it just steal my phone!?"
"Oh great, how are we going to get another one!" Bonnie groaned.
A faint humming began to sound from within before one of the monitors flashed to life, displaying my phone screen? Slowly, the armrests began to move, as a majority of it retracted, folding into itself, leaving behind the joystick and the single monitor.
"Okay, I take back what I said, I'm sorry for doubting you Clemont." Looking back at the other, they stared, jaws agape.
Slowly, I gripped the handle, pulling it forward. The wheelchair jerked to life, moving across the ground. To my pleasant surprise, it glided smoothly over the pavement.
"It really works!" Bonnie squealed with excitement.
"Brai!" Braixen cheered as she ran over to me. My heart pounded with newfound excitement as I overlooked the empty streets with only a few people walking about, contrasting the busy mornings that Lumiose city brings.
"Finally! We can begin our adventure, I've been waiting for so long!" she spun around, childishly giggling.
I looked toward the colorful orange and blue morning sky, "My first adventure... finally."
"I can't wait to see all the cute Pokemon! There's gotta be tons just waiting to be discovered, hit the gas and let's go!"
A cough interrupted our thoughts. "Forgetting something?"
We both turned to face my mother, who stood with two large suitcases beside her, causing Bonnie to faceplant into the ground. "I forgot about that..."
"Welcome to growing up, now its your turn to carry..."
"You're just lucky you're in a wheelchair..." Bonnie pouted.
"Don't worry you two, from what I gathered, Clemont added slots for your luggage."
"Oh, my savior!" Bonnie sighed, grabbing her luggage. "Wait a sec, why are there four?"
"Well, Pokemon adventures are best when they're with others, who knows, maybe you'll find people to travel with. I mean, Bonnie, you traveled with your brother and everyone right?"
"I guess I haven't really thought of it like that..."
"So, I guess this really is it... huh." My mom said, looking at the ground with a bittersweet smile. "You guys have grown so much over the years, I'm gonna miss the both of you."
"Mom... I-" Suddenly, I felt her arms wrap around the both of us.
"You're two gonna do great, I know you are."
"Aw geez, this is too sappy, even for me!" Bonnie sighs.
My mom chuckles, letting go. "Don't worry, I won't get too sappy now. You take care of each others, I don't need anymore casualties."
"Yes ma'am!" Bonnie gave a mock salute.
"Remember, you can come here any time, I'll be here!" She called out.
"Alright! I will!" I called back.
"Well, what are you waiting for, let's do this!" Bonnie grinned, pumping her fist out.
"Yeah, Yeah... Let's get this show on the road."
AN:
Alright, so it's been a while. This is one of the oldest fanfics I have worked on, and finally, I got around to finishing the introduction part. From here on out, the ideas will go beyond just exploring the relationship between Iono and Briant. From here on out, the story will switch to a third-person point of view. To be honest, I was not expecting to go down this route, but I am fully committed and have some ideas on how I want to move forward with this story. I haven't seen many fanfictions about physical disabilities in Pokemon (which makes sense because climbing up dangerous mountains and escaping wild Pokemon is a little bit hard to do in a wheelchair), but I thought I'd take on the challenge. Anyways, I am very excited to see where this takes us, and hopefully, it doesn't take three years to end writer's block.
