MADDIE AND SAM….AND DAVE

Sam was driving back to Maddie's house after depositing David on his bed now knowing that it was David who was the stranger at the door who obviously had feelings for her. The fact that he called him a "Rat Bastard" only solidified his opinion. "Thank goodness I stopped him at the restaurant from spilling the beans about the night before when he showed up at her house", Sam thought. He knew it wasn't very nice of him, lying to Maddie's face when she asked him this morning if there was someone at the door yelling her name. Of course, he didn't know at the time that it was her Associate and he would be back in his life so soon, but the way he drank tonight made him look like a fool. "He's a nice guy but, c'mon, he's a loser". "Maddie couldn't possibly have feelings for him". Nonetheless, to be on the safe side, Sam decided he needed to hurry his plan along and make sure Maddie realized that he was the one who was best for her.

Meanwhile, Maddie sat at the edge of her bed waiting for Sam to return from taking drunken David home. She got into her pajamas and found her Sinatra album that included the song 'All The Way' which she remembered was once Sam's favorite and decided it might set the mood, whatever mood that was, she wasn't sure. The only problem was that she couldn't stop thinking about what had just taken place at the restaurant. "David, David, David"...She should be mad at the spectacle he made of himself tonight but instead felt heartbroken for him and confusion for her. He clearly came there intentionally to interupt her dinner with Sam, but why?

She reminded herself of their conversation at the table and how nervous David looked saying he had finally realized something last night, that he had made a decision, in fact, a big decision. "Was he going to tell me he loved me"? She thought. She sat there and pondered that question. "Why now"? What had changed in their relationship that she wasn't aware of, that he would want to confess his feelings for her so urgently, that he couldn't wait until morning. "Was he feeling threatened by Sam fearing we'd become a couple". That had to be the reason, there was absolutely no doubt in her mind now that David was acting out of jealousy and was convinced that this was his motivation. At that moment she heard Sam come through the front door and call her name, "Maddie" he shouted. "Up here" she answered and couldn't figure out why she wasn't overly excited as she heard him come up the stairs to her bedroom. Yes, they had been both friends and occasional lovers a long time ago but she just wasn't sure what her feelings towards Sam were at this very moment. "I do love him", Maddie thought, "but to what degree".

Sam entered her bedroom and said "Nice tune". "Still your favorite"? She asked. "Yeah, still my favorite", he answered. Maddie looked up sheepishly and said, "Some night, huh". Sam stood there awkwardly and then made the statement, "Some night, He's, um, quite a guy" to which Maddie responded "Sinatra"? "Yeah, Sinatra," Sam quipped. "C'mere". Maddie got up, walked towards him and he put his arms around her as they slowly started to dance to the song. Maddie closed her eyes, beginning to feel relaxed and comfortable in Sam's arms. He gently laid her on the bed as they started kissing and finally began making love. Sam's approach to love making was how she remembered it, slow, gentle, predictable, 'nice'. He was done before she could even have an orgasm but that wasn't new for her or him. When they finished, Sam looked at Maddie and said softly "It's been a long time but that was great". Maddie smiled "Yes it was", she lied. Maddie's mind drifted and wondered what it would be like to be swept away in a sea of passion for someone, to make love with abandonment, to be carefree and wild. To have a lover that took her to new heights that she would want to make love over and over again. For all the times she had sex in the past, no one had ever done that for her. "Maybe that is just a fantasy of mine", "Maybe that really doesn't exist".

With his arm draped across Maddie, Sam fell asleep, satisfied and confident that Maddie was his. Meanwhile, instead of feeling the afterglow of lovemaking, Maddie stared up at the ceiling contemplating how she should approach David tomorrow morning to ask him what he wanted to tell her at the restaurant. She HAD to know, find out what big decision he had come to. "Does he really love me?" "Is that what he was going to say?" The bigger question for Maddie was "Do I love him?" "Well", she thought, "if anyone is going to confess anything, he is definetly going to be the first one to say it". She slowly closed and opened her eyes, still thinking about what David was going to profess when Sam stirred and Maddie quickly closed her eyes shut pretending she was asleep. Sam stopped moving and Maddie opened her eyes, once more, only to have her mind still consumed about David. "Tomorrow", she thought as she drifted off to sleep, "Tomorrow I will have all the answers and everything will be okay".
