"I-I'm Wendy Marvell, one of the generation one dragon slayers like Natsu. I'm the Sky Dragon Slayer." Wendy replied with a slight stammer as she bowed politely but a soft hand touched her cheek and gently lifted her upright where she was met with a look that said there's no need to be so formal. "I'll be working with Doctor Porlysica. Natsu wanted to show me around and have me meet everyone before I start."
"How much have you been told about us?" Mira asked curiously.
"Well… umm… not much really."
"I've told her about the enhancements, because she would've found out anyway the moment that she had to magically scan us to diagnose any issues and heal us." Natsu quickly answered, helping the shy blunette. "She also knows the kind of work we do here but not any critical information. She'll learn more when she starts working here."
Mira stepped forward and hugged Wendy as her 'big sister' instincts kicked in. "Well, it's really nice to meet you, Wendy. If you need anything, just give me a call or come and find me. I'd give you my number now but you'll be given a special work phone soon, so I'll give it to you then."
"Okay, thank you." Wendy returned the woman's hug with a bashful smile. Once she was released, Mira sat back down at her desk and offered the group a smile.
"Oh, Natsu, Lucy, about your last job." Mira leaned back in her chair and glanced between the two agents. "I've got some news; apparently, they've already gotten a lot of information out of the place. Turns out, that sarin gas attack on Calico goes back to that lab. We've found information in Phantom Lord's archives that matches up to what has been pulled from that facility."
"Mm, Hisui isn't going to like that…" Natsu murmured softly. "Depending on how it's handled, that could elevate from domestic terrorism to an attack from another nation via proxy… Shit."
"We'll just have to wait and see what she decides to do." Mira sighed. "But we likely won't be tasked with dealing with it since we're still in the process of getting Nevermore fully staffed and in working order."
"I'll choose not to dwell on it." Natsu dismissed the issue and turned to Wendy. "Let's keep moving. Given the time, there'll probably be a fair bit of people in the café."
"Okay."
"I'll catch up with you two later." Lucy kissed the man's cheek and sat down on the couch. "There's something that I want to talk to Mira about anyway."
"Right." Natsu gave the woman a quick nod and stepped out of his office with Wendy right behind him. The young woman stayed close to him as the made their way across the floor and to the café. At a glance, he could see a few people that he wanted Wendy to meet, like Lisanna behind the counter and, surprisingly, both Zeref and Mavis who were sat at a table near the corner. "Let's get something to eat while we're here."
"Woah, this place is actually kind of fancy." Wendy marvelled at the café and she couldn't help but stare as a cute blonde in a maid outfit passed by with a tray of food in her hands.
"'ello, Monsieur Salamander." The woman's green eyes lingered on the pinkette and she blew him a playful kiss on her way past. "'ow is your day going?"
"It was going good up until now."
"Oh, and what about now?" Genevieve gave the man a knowing smile.
"Now it's fantastic." Natsu flirted habitually, earning a giggle from the Midian woman.
"I 'ope it stays zat way." She gently caressed the man's cheek and gave him a small wave as she walked over to the table that she was delivering food to.
While the man had been flirting with the maid, Wendy read the menu above the counter, her mouth watering from the delicious scents swarming her. "The food here smells really, really good."
"Hm?" Natsu tore his attention from the slender blonde and glanced at Wendy before following her gaze up to the menu. "Yeah, we pay staff really well so we end up getting really skilled people. Just wait until you taste it, you'll love it even more."
"I'm going to have to increase my training." Wendy admitted with a brief look down at her body. "Is there somewhere that I can exercise on site?"
"Yeah, I'll take you there once we've eaten." Natsu grinned and placed his hand on Wendy's back, gently ushering her forward so they could order as Lisanna had been patiently waiting with a bright smile. "Hey Lis."
"Hiya Natsu, who's the cutey?" Lisanna asked warmly as she leaned against the counter and grinned at the younger woman. "I love your dress."
"Thank you." Wendy replied softly. She was feeling shy once again because she had found herself face to face with another famous person. "I'm Wendy Marvell, I'll be working with Doctor Porlyusica soon."
"Wow, that's incredible." Lisanna smiled. "So, what can I get you two?"
"Um, could I have an espresso and a chocolate-filled croissant that has been warmed a little?"
"Sure! And you, Natsu?"
"The usual coffee and I guess I'll grab a burger with the lot."
"Right! Find a seat and it'll be taken over to you when the order is complete." Lisanna quickly processed the order and turned to take care of their drinks.
"Let's go and see my brother, you might remember him." Natsu led Wendy over to their table, drawing Zeref's attention with a quick wave and the moment the man saw the blunette, he smiled softly.
"Hello there, Wendy. How have you been?"
"I've been good." Wendy moved to bow politely however she couldn't stop staring at the man, she did recognise him though it had been a long, long time. "You are… Zeref… aren't you. You look older than I remember."
"So do you, granted you were very young back then." Zeref chuckled light-heartedly. "You've grown into a beautiful woman, Wendy."
"Thank you." Wendy bowed to the man and straightened up with a bright smile. She turned to the blonde opposite the man to introduce herself but gasped softly behind her hand, quietly asking, "You're pregnant, aren't you?"
"Hehe, yes." Mavis gave the woman a little nod. "I'm Mavis Dragneel, Zeref is my husband."
"Do all Dragneels have a thing for blondes?" Wendy asked curiously, gazing between both men who laughed heartily at her comment.
"I think it's safe to say that Natsu and I do, but I wouldn't say all of us do." Zeref wiped a tear from his ear and tugged at his hair lightly. "I inherited my mother's black hair while Natsu got our father's pink hair. So, I guess our father had a thing for black-haired women."
"Are you two here for lunch?" Mavis asked with a wave to the two vacant chairs, offering them a seat.
"Yeah, it shouldn't be long before it turns up." Natsu thanked his sister-in-law with a smile and a nod as he sat down beside his brother and Wendy sat opposite him, next to Mavis. Turning to his brother, he asked, "I thought you were still buried in work at Nevermore?"
"I've gotten it to a point where I could come home and relax with my beautiful wife." Zeref sank into his chair theatrically and let out a relieved sigh but he straightened up a moment later with a grin. "It took a little longer than the week that we had planned to do my work but I wanted to make sure things were set up perfectly before I flew out."
"As usual." Natsu chuckled and he looked across to Mavis with a small, teasing grin briefly directed at Wendy. "Anyway, as she was stupefied by her discovery and forgot to introduce herself; this is Wendy Marvell. She was in the same boat I was when we were kids, suddenly waking up in an unfamiliar world."
"Ah, sorry." Wendy briefly gave the blonde apologetic smile and quickly picked up where Natsu had left off. "I'm a dragon slayer, like Natsu. I had met Zeref when I was very, very young; a few years old, so my memory of him is very vague but it was enough for me to recognise him even though he seemed to have aged… remarkably little now that I think about it."
"And you'll be working with the good Doctor, won't you?" Mavis asked but her smile said that she already knew the answer. "Yes, both Zeref and I had been cursed for a long time, undying and unageing. But we managed circumvent our curse recently thanks to a mix of magic and science, which thankfully didn't curse us again."
Zeref chuckled weakly at the woman's last remark and grinned at the blunette. "I would've kept working hard to find a way. But it worked and now we can live a normal life and grow old together, and that's all that matters."
Mavis reached across the table and gently grasped her husband's hand, a loving smile beaming from ear to ear. "I know. And I couldn't be happier with the results."
"Out of curiosity," Zeref glanced at Wendy before turning to his brother. "Do you plan on training her to any degree?"
"Probably a little bit to help keep her in shape and make sure she can look after herself." Natsu turned his attention to the blunette who gave him a smile as if to say that she was fine with the idea. "Her proficiency with healing aside, she is still a combat mage by nature and it's something I wish to see nurtured. Our facilities will allow me to push her to her limits and help her grow in a safe environment."
"Safe meaning a low risk of collateral damage, right?" Mavis asked with a cheeky smile.
"Dragon slayers are inherently more destructive due to the nature of our magic. It's designed to kill beings far stronger than a human or the like." Natsu replied, matching the woman's smile with a slight chuckle. "But yes, that is the largest factor in the decision to do it here."
"You wouldn't know of this, but there was a period of time when Natsu's powers had to be suppressed so he could learn better self-control." Zeref informed the blunette. "Doubly so thanks to his Etherious side awakening and swaying his emotions."
"I've got it under control now, and thankfully, I've been cleared to remain unrestricted." Natsu awkwardly scratched the back of his head, grinning weakly at the younger dragon slayer. "It forced me to be more creative with my approach to jobs and be a lot more careful when I whip it out."
"Well, considering you're the most destructive out of the lot of us due to the nature of your element. I'm not really surprised that it had to happen." Wendy let out a gentle giggle and hid her smile behind a hand. "But at least it taught you something."
"At least I don't have the ability or desire to eat the entire metal skeleton of a damn building." Natsu grunted gruffly.
"Speaking of, do you know what happened to him?" Wendy tilted her head lightly.
"We took over his company and now he works for us, operating out of his old HQ which we call Nevermore Base." Natsu replied and he pointed to his brother with his thumb. "That's where he just came back from."
"Gajeel and Juvia are here today as they came back with me for evaluations." Zered chimed in with a brief glance around the café. "I'm sure you'll run into him eventually."
"I wonder what he looks like now…" Wendy mused when a gentle clacking of heels and a beautiful melodic hum caught her ear and drew her attention to Genevieve who was approaching the table with their order.
"He looks like a fucking pin cushion." Natsu remarked offhandedly. "To the point that I wouldn't even be surprised if he has fucking piercings on his cock."
"Some people would get off on all zee bumps and ridges, Monsieur Salamander." Geneveive giggled playfully as she caught the end of the man's conversation. She placed the coffees, burger, and croissant down in front of the dragon slayers and offered them a polite bow. "I 'ope you enjoy your lunch, Monsieur, Mademoiselle."
"Thank you." Natsu glanced up at the Midian woman and his eyes lingered for a little bit as she turned and moved to an empty table to clean up but he tore his eyes away and refocused on their conversation. "But yeah, as Zeref said. Since he's here then you'll run into him soon enough. If either of you remember each other's scent then I'm sure one of you will track down the other."
"While I'd love to catch up, it isn't really a priority." Wendy looked down at her espresso and took a sip before continuing, "Getting myself familiar with the premise and people is what I need to be doing, especially if I'm going to be responsible for their health."
"Well," Zeref sighed as he rose to his feet. "I'm sorry to ditch you two so soon, but Mavis and I need to get back to work. It was nice to see you again, Wendy."
"I'll see you two around then." Wendy offered the married couple a bright smile and watched as they left the café and headed off to the right. She took a small bite of her food and her face scrunched up slightly. She held the croissant out to the man and hid her mouth behind her hand as she murmured, "Could you please heat this up a little bit more." She watched as his hand rested on the pastry and she could feel it grow warmer in her hand until the chocolate inside glistened and started to look a little runny. After another bite, she smiled and glanced at the man who started eating his burger. "Thanks."
"Mhm."
"I wonder what Lucy wanted to talk to Mira about?" Wendy mused, missing the bubbly blonde.
"Know her, probably something kinky that she wanted help working on."
"I'm surprised that she didn't recognise me when you two got back."
"She had been through a lot and we really weren't at the mansion all that long when you think about it." Natsu lightly reminded the young woman, giving her a small smirk. "You know, Gajeel said the same thing to me. But then again, he's got more studs in him than a warship so it doesn't surprise me that she didn't recognise him."
"And you call Lucy the lewd one." Wendy giggled quietly. "I guess you did rub off on her."
"I know it sounds innocent when you say it but…" Natsu sighed softly and shook his head. "Nah, don't worry about it. Let's finish up here and head to the gym."
"Okay."
The two dragon slayers ate in a comfortable silence that was filled with the quiet conversations of those around them, each one being picked up perfectly by their magically mutated senses. Once they had washed their food down with slow sips of coffee, they rose to their feet which drew Geneveive's attention. The blonde waved as the duo made to leave, offering them a warm smile as thanks for their patronage.
Natsu led the way back to the elevator bank and hit the call button as he turned to face Wendy. He had a slightly playful smile on his face as he said, "This place seems fairly normal, doesn't it?"
"Yes… Putting the fairly high security aside, it seems like any other fancy office building that you see on TV."
"As you'll find out soon enough once you start working here, all the fun stuff happens underground." Natsu let out a short chuckle and grinned widely as the elevator opened beside him. It was already empty so he stepped inside and selected the floor that housed the gym. He watched as Wendy examined herself in the mirrored walls, slowly turning side to side and watching her reflections to see her back. "Something wrong?"
"No, not really." Wendy smiled softly and turned to the man. "Well, I'm not sure if I told you, but while I was growing up, I was always worried about whether I would 'grow up', if you know what I mean…"
Natsu silently shifted his gaze down from her face and to her breasts then followed her slender waistline to her hips. Her mint-green dress hugged her nicely until it reached her hips where it slowly swished around her thighs with her shy twisting and turning. From what he could see, she was very fit but it wasn't as obvious as it was with Erza, and she wasn't as soft as Lucy who had a thin padding of fat that hid her powerful muscles. Not only was her figure incredibly attractive but she had a sizeable bust too, not quiet as large as Lucy but larger than Lisanna. "I think you have nothing to worry about anymore, Wendy. You're very beautiful."
"Yes, you are correct, and thank you." Wendy couldn't help but blush at the man's firm declaration but she nodded slowly. "Looking back, I can see all that worry was unnecessary but I still think about it from time to time."
"You like to look at yourself to reassure yourself."
It wasn't a question but a statement based in the observations of the keen-eyed man, and one that was dead on the mark. Wendy gave the man a small smile and hugged herself lightly. "Yes. I'm proud of the woman I turned into, and now, I can use my magic to help those in need."
"Just be careful that people don't start asking for the naughty nurse routine." Natsu grinned, cracking a joke to lighten the woman's mood. It succeeded because the blunette giggled quietly behind her hand.
"Would you believe me if I said that people have already tried that with me?"
"It certainly wouldn't surprise me." Natsu let out a bark of laughter and shook his head. "What did you tell them?"
"That I was underage and that I was also in charge of their health so it wouldn't do well to mess with someone who hadn't yet taken the Oath." Wendy replied and she gave the man a shy smile. "Is Cana usually like that?"
"The lewd joke about you being barely legal? Yeah, that's nothing strange, though we're all no stranger to cracking an inuendo here or there. I wouldn't worry too much about it."
"I'm not, it was just a bit of a shock after this morning."
"Lucy stunned you that much, huh?" Natsu smirked and he watched the woman squirm a little from embarrassment.
"Well… I was doing my best to stay as quiet as possible so you wouldn't have noticed but I didn't know that she was aware of what I was doing the whole time…" Wendy admitted quietly. "It's going to take a little to get used to."
"Like Lucy said, if you need to take care of yourself then just do it." Natsu shrugged lightly. "I assume you heard what she said after you left the kitchen?"
"Yeah. Could you tell her that it's okay… you were exactly right." Wendy's blush darkened a little and she glanced away for a moment. "It's why I took my time in the shower."
Natsu sighed softly and he reached out, gently placing his fingers on Wendy's cheek and bringing her attention back to him. "I should probably tell you this. I'm part demon, Etherious to be exact as Zeref said earlier, and it gives me an additional sense that allows me to pick up on the emotions of those around me. I knew you had planned on having some time to yourself not long after you woke me up and I could feel it when your excitement was rising."
"Oh no…" Wendy buried her face in a hand and her blush extended all the way to her ears and even started to tint her neck and a bit of her chest.
"There's honestly no point in the three of us hiding anything from the other at home, so we'll just have to get comfortable in that fact that things like this will be common knowledge between us."
"I guess you're right… It'll just take a little to get used to it." Wendy nodded and she took a deep breath, releasing it slowly as the elevator came to a stop. She stepped out once the doors opened and sniffed the air, she could tell just by hints of earth and metal that they were underground. "Where to now?"
"Straight ahead." Natsu replied as he walked past the woman and made his way toward the gym. He could feel two familiar people inside it and it made him walk a little faster in his eagerness to introduce Wendy to them.
Inside the gym were Erza and Gray, the redhead inside the boxing ring with a training robot while the raven-haired man was going to town on a heavy punching bag with a series of punches and high kicks. A loud whistle drew their attention at the same time, both glancing at the pinkette and the unfamiliar woman beside him.
"Hey Natsu, who's the chick?" Gray asked loudly as he pulled off his shirt and tossed it aside then grabbed a towel and began patting himself down while walking over to the pinkette.
"I'm Wendy Marvell." The blunette introduced herself. "I'm a dragon slayer like Natsu, I'll be starting work here soon under Doctor Porlyusica."
"And I wouldn't be surprised if that's starting to get tiring to repeat." Natsu chuckled lightly.
"A little bit."
"Anyway, she's a Gen One like Gajeel and I. Her parent is Grandeeney, a sky dragon. Her magic makes her an excellent healer and since she has been taught medicine and whatnot, I recommended her for the position."
"Wait," Wendy immediately turned to the man with her eyes wide from shock. "You recommended me? But I thought…"
"I asked Layla to pass on the recommendation. The order originated with me."
"Oh… Thank you." Wendy murmured shyly but she smiled and turned back to the approaching agents.
"I'm Erza Scarlet, and that's Gray Fullbuster." Erza called out as she powered down the robot and leapt over the ropes, landing not far from them. "We're basically Natsu's teammates, albeit in an informal way. When a job calls for it, we're usually paired together along with Lucy who I am sure you would've met already if you're hanging around Natsu."
"She's living with us." Natsu nodded. "So yeah, they've met."
"So, given that you were taught by a sky dragon, that makes you a sky dragon slayer, right?" Gray asked, glancing between the two slayers to make sure he was correct. "Cheese Toasty over there is only good at combat magic so it's nice to see that at least one of you can do more than that.
"Cheese Toasty?" Natsu repeated slowly as he narrowed his eyes slowly with indignation. He had to have misheard that with his enhanced hearing but when Gray smirked, he shot back, "You know what, fuck it. I wasn't going to do it but your new name is Snow White, bitch. And I'm going to make sure Levy sticks it into the roster. Fuck! Now I'm going to need a new name for the car that Ash is working on!"
Wendy looked at the men with an alarmed expression but Erza just chuckled lightly and drew the blunette's attention away. "Don't worry about them, they always do this. So, you're a healer? Is there anything else you can do?"
"Hm," Wendy clasped her hands behind her back and fidgeted lightly. "I got taught healing spells, combat spells, medical knowledge, sky dragon enchantments-"
Erza held up her hand at the mention of enchantments, her interest piqued. "You're an enchantress?"
"Utilising sky dragon enchantments like Arms to increase attack power, Armour to increase resistance, Vernier for speed and flight, and Raise to negate spell effects." Wendy nodded lightly.
"We don't have the best relationship, but my mother is a High Enchantress who has a great deal of loyalty to both Zeref and Natsu. She's also a dragon slayer, one of the first if not the first, so she didn't have the antibodies that you two have and had been turned into a dragon by her magic." Erza said, smiling softly. She glanced at Natsu who had finished arguing with Gray and she silently thanked him. "Zeref helped her change back to human, which allowed her to give birth to me. And once he had managed to cure himself and Mavis of their curses, he was confident enough to help my mother once again using the same process to cure my mother of what she considered a curse."
"Zeref used some DNA from Erza to help clone Irene's body." Natsu explained, jumping into their conversation. "Erza is human, but her body is a lot tougher than normal due to her mother. Once Irene had transferred into her cloned – now completely human – body, she turned her old body into a Dragon Lacrima and implanted it into her cloned body. I also provided dragon antibodies so she wouldn't undergo full dragonisation again but would have a limited amount like we do. She's got all the power she used to have but none of the drawbacks and she can live like a normal milf-I mean mother."
Gray hid his stifled laughter behind his hand and turned away to be doubly sure not to be caught out while Erza just blinked at the man and pretended not to hear what he had said. "We're slowly repairing our relationship though I didn't really appreciate being abandoned… That's all in the past though, I'm doing my best to keep it back there." The redhead sighed softly and brought the conversation back to where she had intended it to go. "The reason I brought her up is because I should be able to have her tutor you as an enchanter if you'd like?"
"Yes, that would be perfect!" Wendy smiled bright and leaned forward, nodding eagerly. "My mother could only teach me so much when it comes to them, I would love it if your mother would take me under her wing."
"That kind of sounds weird coming from someone trained by a dragon." Gray chuckled lightly. "You two can actually say that literally, instead of being just a saying."
"We'll let you two get back to training. I'll show Wendy around our gym and we'll head back up to my office. So, if you two want to talk more afterward, we'll be there." Natsu placed his hand on Wendy's shoulder who smiled as she straightened up and gave a small wave to her new friends. Once they had returned to the ring and bag, he turned to the blunette and said, "This is technically reserved for Agents to train in since we have a bunch of specialised equipment in here that was designed to work our enhanced bodies, but since you're a dragon slayer like me, you'll already be stronger than a regular person. If I trained you to fight, you'd lay out any operator that you fought with just your natural strength. If people try and give you shit, refer them to me and I'll sort it out."
"Okay, I'll be sure to do that." Wendy gave the man a small, thankful smile and gazed around at the equipment dotted around the room. "What makes this place so special?"
"The weights have a gravity enchantment on them, meaning we can increase how much they weigh beyond their natural weight." Natsu led the woman over to a dumbbell rack and took one of the dozens of identical dumbbells and placed it into Wendy's hand. "It's only five kilos normally, so very light but when you push a little magic into it, it'll activate a little interactive hologram on the sides and it'll allow you to increase the weight up to whatever you desire. The moment you release the weights and break the magical connection; it returns to five kilos."
Wendy looked at the side of the dumbbell and poured a little bit of her magic into it, watching as the hologram activated just as Natsu had said. She lightly tapped on the hard-light interface and raised the weight to fifty kilograms then started to do a few experimental bicep curls. "Oh wow! And if I drop it…" She held out her hands, one above the other, and dropped the weight down into her left hand. The display vanished the moment the power source had been cut off and flickered to life when it landed in her hand, showing the original weight of five kilograms. "And everything in here is like this?"
"Yeah." Natsu turned and held is arms out wide, gesturing to the whole of the gym. "Everything."
"Well, that certainly makes things easier for me." Wendy giggled lightly. "It used to be very embarrassing when I could easily out-lift everyone in the gym, even the big buff guys. I had to start training in private to avoid the stares when they saw someone like me sticking plate after plate onto a bar and squatting it like it was nothing."
"If you need a training partner, any one of us would be happy to join you." Natsu gave the young woman a large, fanged grin. "Mira and Lucy train together, Lisanna sometimes joins them. Erza is in here a lot, and so am I. Snow Cone too. So don't be afraid to ask, or if you like some time to yourself then you can just come here and exercise with some headphones or earbuds and you won't be disturbed." He pointed to a set of doors opposite them. "The locker rooms are in there so you can store your things, and there are showers too so you can freshen up after your workout."
"I might buy some new gear then." Wendy mused quietly to herself as she gazed around at the equipment once more before turning to the man with a warm smile. "Thanks for showing me this Natsu. I'm sure I'll get a proper orientation when I start but I'm still happy that you took the time out of your day to do this for me."
"Nah, it's alright. I don't really have much going on right now anyway." Natsu shook his head lightly and waved for Wendy to follow him as he started to make his way towards the exit. "Let's go up to my office again and see if Lucy and Mira are done with their little chat."
"Okay!"
Alright, sorry it took so long but I was tied up in rewrites for the other stories. I still need to comb through The Fallen Dragon because even though I thought I found them all, I came across a missing line of dialogue in chapter 29 as I was finishing up this chapter. I'm quite annoyed with myself because of it as I don't like major mistakes like that and it was my own fault for being lazy in those rewrites and using a lot of copy and paste, something I'm not doing for Continued Life of a Dragon Slayer's rewrites though those rewrites were always going to be a lot more thorough.
Irene Belserion, she was a spur of the moment addition but I figured it fit nicely with the changes made already. Like her role in cannon, she will act as a mentor figure for Wendy alongside Porlyusica.
Wendy herself will be becoming an agent in time but right now she's working on finishing up her doctorate with the placement at the hospital and working alongside Porlyusica. Depending on what the Doctor thinks about her, she could sign off on Wendy's education and allow her to gain addition experience out in the field. They don't want another repeat of Macao, after all.
