2021

Harry had thought about the situation. He had realized that his presence in Caesar's life had greatly affected the course of events on the planet Earth he had been on. Harry wanted to see what Caesar would have turned out like had he Harry Potter not merged with Will. To that end Harry decided to merge with a counterpart inside the same reality cluster as the universe where he raised Caesar. Carol decided to tag along. But she decided not to merge with a counterpart and just traveled there herself.

"Well this is different," Carol projected as she arrived in this new universe to find her husband looking completely different.

"That it is," Harry agreed as he examined his new memories as a man named Malcolm Clarke.

Malcolm was currently sleeping in a tent he shared with his wife Ellie and son from a previous marriage Alexander. They were camped in the woods on their way to a hydroelectric dam facility they hoped to restore. Harry inspected Ellie and was pleased with what he saw. She was a very attractive woman.

"She's pretty," Carol admitted.

Carol said it without a hint of jealousy. As she had gotten better control of her powers and had gotten used to her new husband's nature she had come to terms with his lifestyle. She had met several of his wives and found them to be enjoyable company. Plus the bond helped with any jealousy. She knew her husband would always have time and love enough for her.

"So are you my love," Harry responded. "I've located Caesar."

It was still very early in the morning which was why most of the humans in the camp were asleep. But Caesar was not all that far away leading a pack of apes hunting a herd of deer with his son Blue Eyes. Harry and Carol watched through their technology as the apes herded the deer in a particular direction. Caesar managed to bring down one of the deer by throwing a rope with weighted stones on the end around its legs. The apes were physically able to keep up with the deer. Caesar then retrieved a spear from one of his comrades. Caesar and Blue Eyes cautiously moved on for the kill. But upon closer inspection Caesar spotted large claw marks on a tree.

"Son, stay," Caesar signed to Blue Eyes.

While Caesar examined the claw marks more closely Blue Eyes didn't listen. Eager to prove himself an able hunter Blue Eyes moved closer to the trapped deer which began squealing in fright. All of a sudden a large bear burst out of the pine trees near the deer and charged Blue Eyes. He let out a simian scream only to be swatted aside by the bear. Caesar immediately jumped on the grizzly's back. But slid off into a tumbling roll and came up in a crouch in front of his son with nothing but his spear. The bear quickly knocked the spear out of his hands. Caesar let out a call for help. Koba, a scarred ape that Harry remembered from his last universe, heard the call. Caesar saw Koba coming. He stood taller and began letting out a challenging roar to distract the grizzly. The bear stood on its own hind legs and let out a roar. In an impressive flying leap off the hillside behind the bear Koba drove his spear directly into the bear's neck. The bear fell forward onto Caesar and struggled weakly for a moment before stilling. Caesar managed to climb out from under the bear.

Caesar let out a relieved laugh and signed, "Thank you Koba."

Koba threw Caesar a spear. Caesar went over to Blue Eyes and touched the wounds from the bear claws on Blue Eyes' right shoulder. The wounds ran along his chest but didn't look to be life threatening.

"Think before you act, son," Caesar signed.

With wounded pride Blue Eyes deflected Caesar's hand and took the spear as other apes came up behind the bear. After the hunt the apes got their prizes loaded up on the horses they had managed to acquire. Their route back to their home took them past an old gas station which was long overgrown by the forest. Their home was a wooden style fort they had constructed out of local timber.

When they made it back Koba approached Blue Eyes and signed, "Don't feel bad. Scars make you strong."

Blue Eyes seemed much more receptive to this advice than he had been to the advice of his father. But Caesar had much more to preoccupy his mind than his son's wounded pride. One of the apes came and informed him that his wife was giving birth. He rushed up towards their personal home within the fort atop one of the larger trees. Caesar found his wife Cornelia giving birth. He held her hand. It wasn't long before Cornelia gave birth to a baby ape to her and Caesar's joy. Blue Eyes came into the room.

"Come meet your new brother," Caesar signed to Blue Eyes.

It was a touching moment as the small family greeted its newest member with many other apes watching on.

"They truly are special creatures," Carol told her husband as she watched the scene with him. "They are definitely deserving of a place on this planet."

"That they are," Harry replied.

Later with Caesar and Maurice

"Congratulations on another son," Maurice signed to Caesar.

"Thank you," Caesar returned. "We've come a long way."

"That was so long ago in the shelter," Maurice said. "You still think about humans don't you?"

"From time to time," Caesar signed.

"I like many apes only got to see their bad side. You saw them differently because of the way you were raised," Maurice signed. "But we also have our bad side. We fight too."

"But we are more like family," Caesar replied.

Maurice nodded his agreement but also wondered if perhaps Caesar was being a little too naïve. Maurice saw the potential for darkness in his fellow ape. But he wouldn't disabuse Caesar of his notions with signed words. Caesar would have to see it for himself.

"Do you think humans are really all dead? We haven't seen any for the last two of the ten winters we have been living here," Maurice said.

"I don't know," Caesar said.

As the two friends watched the sun set on their home out in the woods they contemplated humans.

The Next Day

Harry was currently walking through the woods with his small family getting to know his wife Ellie better. He of course had all of his counterpart's memories. But there was a difference between memories and actually interacting with someone.

"You're going to want to see this," Carol sent over the bond from where she hovered over the scene of first contact between Caesar's group and humans in several years.

It was Harry's nature that allowed him to split his focus so easily that he could maintain a conversation with Ellie and Carol simultaneously. He watched as Carver, a member of the human group, encountered Caesar's son Blues and another young ape named Ash.

"Oh god, oh god," Carver said as he paused with his hands held up non-threateningly. Then he quickly drew his pistol. He pointed it at the two apes. Ash looked at Blue Eyes uncertainly. Blue Eyes held a fishing spear from the fishing trip the two had just been at and bared his teeth at Carver. "It's okay. It's okay," Carver said more to himself than to the two apes.

Carver pulled the trigger when it seemed Ash was stepping closer. The sound of a gunshot rang through the woods.

"Oh no," Ellie said as everyone in the group heard it.

"Where's Carver?" Harry asked.

Harry was answered as Carver began calling, "Help. Help!" The group had taken off at a dead run. Harry was the first to reach Carver. "I shot him. I shot him."
"Carver, did he threaten you?" Harry asked. "There are likely more where these two came from." As if their ears were burning a horde of apes came raging towards them through the trees. Harry felt Ellie and his son Alex tense beside him in terror. "Carver, don't aim your gun at the two young ones," Harry said.

Rocket landed a few feet away between Blue Eyes and the group of humans, a spear raised in defense. Caesar also touched down and stood on a rock overlooking the scene.

"They shot Ash. They shot my son," Rocket signed to Caesar.

"I am sorry," Harry immediately signed drawing the attention of the other apes. "Carver here was scared. We were told apes caused the sickness which killed most of our kind. When Ash approached Carver was worried he would get sick. We have medicine which can help."

Harry's rapid signing was followed by the apes. And those from his group were also looking at him with surprise, unaware he knew sign language. Harry had lowered his weapon and all but Carver followed suit.

"Lower your weapon Carver," Harry ordered. "You're not going to do any good anyway. If they threw all the spears they have trained on us your gun isn't going to stop them."

"Go," Caesar called.
Go another ape picked up. Then another. And another. Alex had dropped his bag as the group turned and ran. Caesar sent Koba and a couple of other apes to follow the humans as they left.

"What did you say?" Ellie asked as they ran.

"I tried explaining in sign language that what Carver did was an accident because he was afraid of getting sick. I'm not sure they believed me," Harry said.

"It would seem so," Ellie agreed.

The group made it back to the two trucks they had driven up and began driving back towards San Fransisco. Carol and Harry were both aware of Koba's group following. But he didn't say anything to the others with him. They drove across the Golden Gate Bridge to the doors of their settlement inside the city. Their small colony's leader Dreyfus met them at the gates.

"Did you find the dam?" Dreyfus asked when they pulled up.

"We found the dam. It can probably be salvaged. There is a whole horde of apes up there near the dam. And they can talk," Harry answered.

"It's true," Ellie agreed.

Dreyfus got into the vehicle and they filled the man in on events up at the site of the hydroelectric dam their colony was hoping to use.

"How could they have spoken?" Dreyfus asked.

"There was talk that the plague was started by a company here in the city experimenting with intelligence boosting pharmaceuticals on apes. I always thought it was just a conspiracy theory to be honest. But now I'm not so sure," Ellie said.

"Can we contract the plague again from these apes if they were experimented on and the original carriers?" Dreyfus asked.

"I think we are alright," Ellie said. "Our genetic immunity is how we have survived this long."

Ellie had worked with the CDC before the plague.

"We need that power," Dreyfus said.

"They have a leader. He didn't kill us even though we shot one of them. I think maybe I can approach one of them about a peace," Harry said.

"That's ridiculous," Carver said.

"Maybe not," Dreyfus said. "Keep this quiet back at the colony until we figure out what approach we want to go with."

It was only a minute later that the two vehicles reached the compound where the colony was located in one of the old buildings in what used to be downtown San Fransisco.

"How are you doing after all that?" Harry asked Alex as they got out and headed back into the colony.

"I'm alright. But I dropped my bag back there," Alex said.

Alex liked to draw. He had likely dropped his notebook with his drawings and supplies back in the woods.

"Well if we do head back up there I will see about getting it back," Harry said.

"Thank you," Alex said as the trio made their way through the marketplace towards their rooms.

Back at the Ape Colony

Koba and his group reported in to Caesar.

"We should attack them now before they attack us," Koba urged after giving his report.

Koba had always hated humans ever since his experimentation. Harry didn't really blame Koba in that respect. But it certainly didn't help the situation.

"We don't know how many there are," Maurice cautioned. "They may have many guns that we aren't aware of. They obviously have guns as it is."

"We also don't know why they came up here in the first place," Dera, a gorilla, put forth.

Maurice had been going through Alex's sketchbook and showed Caesar a picture of a young Alex with his mother before she had died.

"They shot your son," Koba tried appealing to Rocket. "Don't you want to fight because of that?"

"I follow Caesar. Caesar is our leader," Rocket signed loyally.

"Koba is correct. They almost killed Ash," Ramus, one of Koba's supporters, signed.

The apes started getting worked up in a frenzy.

"Calm," Caesar spoke aloud in English. This silenced the other apes. "If we go to war with the humans we could lose all we have built here. It is not worth it. Ash is alright. Our home is the most important. Our families," He began signing and then said families out loud. "Go, be at peace," He signed.

The other apes dispersed until only Koba and Caesar were left.

"I was a prisoner in their labs where they cut me and tortured me. Until you freed me," Koba signed. "I would do anything you ask. But we must show strength."

"You are right that we must show strength. But we must be careful not to push that show of strength into war. Do not forget how clever humans can be. It was them who made us this way. We must be cautious when dealing with them," Caesar said.

Koba nodded and grasped Caesar's extended forearm.

The Next Day

Caesar, Koba, Rocket, and Blue Eyes rode on horses at the head of an army of apes as they made their way into San Fransisco. Sirens began going off at the colony to announce the ape army showing up in force. Harry, Ellie, and Alex made their way through the marketplace filled with people up to the colony wall.

"That's a lot of apes," Dreyfus shouted over the sound of the siren.

"Let me go down and talk to him," Harry said.

Dreyfus nodded his agreement. When the colony gates opened a few moments later it was to Harry walking out calmly while a line of humans with guns lowered stood at the gates. Harry walked closer. Caesar responded in kind and spurred his horse forward.

"Apes," Caesar called loudly causing the human crowd to gasp in shock. "Do not want war. But we will fight if we must."
Blue Eyes dismounted and walked up with Alex's bag.

"Thank you," Harry said as he accepted the bag.

Harry signed at Caesar, "Can we talk about the dam not far from your home? Where the water is held back," He added. "We need electricity from the dam to provide heat and light to our people."

Caesar thought about the words of the interesting human. This human reminded Caesar of his human father. Not in appearance. But in temperament.

"You and your family can come to speak with me about this," Caesar said in a quieter voice. "But only you."

Harry nodded his understanding. Caesar then turned and led his army away. The crowd broke into loud conversation that soon grew to shouting. Harry headed back inside the colony as Dreyfus made his way back up to the wall to address the crowd.

"Quiet everyone," Dreyfus tried. But that didn't work. Someone handed him a megaphone. "Everyone calm down. We are all immune. We do not need to worry about catching the plague."
"How did the apes find us?" Someone shouted.

"We found them when we went to scout out the dam," Dreyfus replied.

"What if they come back?" A woman shouted.

"They don't want war," Dreyfus replied. "There was an incident. One of our people shot one of theirs. Their ape survived. But it didn't look good. But if they do pursue war we have all of the weapons stockpiles left behind by FEMA and the national guard. We can protect ourselves. But we shouldn't try to start a fight."

"What about the dam?" Another woman shouted.

"The apes have agreed to let Malcolm come talk about the dam. We will see what he can do," Dreyfus said.

Many glanced at Malcolm at this. Ellie's hand slipped into his. Harry walked up the stairs into the building behind where Dreyfus had made his speech. It took a few minutes from the leader of the colony to get done answering other questions.

"A good speech on the fly," Harry complimented.

"Thank you," Dreyfus said. "So do you think you can make any progress with negotiating?"
"We'll see. I think so. The leader seems reasonable. There is a scarred ape among them. He seems to hate humans. He may cause trouble. I think it might be best to not let them know we have weapons."
"What do you suggest?" Dreyfus asked.

"Bring the weapons stockpiles fully inside where the apes can't see it. Train the men on how to use the guns without any live fire tests," Harry said.

That was actually easier than it sounded. Because most of those who had survived this long had learned to use guns. But not necessarily these specific models.

"I'll get it done," Dreyfus said.

"I would also tell everyone to take these apes very seriously. If they encounter the apes show respect. And don't treat them like dumb animals. Because they obviously aren't," Harry added.

Dreyfus nodded his agreement.

"When will you leave?" Dreyfus asked.

"I'll talk to Ellie. But later tomorrow," Harry said.

"Sounds good," Dreyfus said.

The two men parted. Harry headed back to the living quarters he shared with his wife and son. Ellie found him there a few minutes later.

"Hey," Ellie said as she came in.

"Hi," Harry replied as he pulled her into a hug.

"Do you really think we can do this? I mean do you think you can get the dam working with just us?" Ellie asked as she returned the hug.

"I do," Harry confirmed. "I've been doing a lot of studying of the schematics the city had and talking to Carver. I know he's an asshole. But he did use to work at the water department."

"Well I have faith in you," Ellie said as she drew back from the hug and looked at him. "I like this confidence in you. It suits you."
"You know what else suits me," Harry said.

"What?" Ellie asked.

"You," Harry said hungrily before kissing his new wife.

She eagerly returned the kiss. Hands roamed. Mouths roamed. Soon they were both naked.

"This expedition worries me," Ellie said as she finished getting dressed to go.

Ellie found herself in a much better mood after making love to her husband. But she still felt the need to express the worry she had felt before coming to see him.

"I have a feeling everything will work out," Harry said calmly as he came up behind her and hugged her.

Ellie felt the confident practically flowing off him. It made her feel better.

"You sound so sure," Ellie noted as she looked at him in the mirror.

"Trust me," Harry said with a wink.

Harry gathered up his wife and son. They took a truck out of the city. It started to rain as they left the city. The drive was a bumpy one once they entered the woods. The overgrowth was rather high. But by the time they reached the spot where they decided to park the overgrowth had given away to tall trees. Harry had also used his powers to stop the rain. He and his family got out of the trucks. He led the way towards where he knew the ape village was. As they got closer the skulls of deer were visible decorating the place. Trees had been chopped down haphazardly. An archway opened in the wooden fortifications surrounding the ape colony.

"Halt here," Harry said.

"Why?" Ellie asked.

"There is a whole horde of concealed gorillas and chimps in there," Harry said.

"How can you tell?" Alexander asked.

"There are concealed positions built into the walls," Harry said. He called louder, "I wish to speak to Caesar."

As if to prove his point gorillas and chimps began melding out of the fortifications. One of the gorillas let out a loud bellow which would summon Caesar. Caesar soon arrived to meet them.

"What is your name?" Caesar asked.

"I am Malcolm. This is Ellie. And This is Alexander," Harry introduced. "What is your name?"
"Caesar," Caesar replied.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Caesar," Harry said.

Caesar simply nodded and said, "Let's go to dam."
Harry began walking. Caesar fell into step with him. A group of apes fell in line behind Caesar along with Harry's family. When they reached the dam Harry led the way inside.

"This dam uses water to turn a wheel. The wheel converts turning energy into electrical energy. We can use that to heat and light our homes," Harry explained as they went inside the control house of the dam.

"How many people would you need?" Caesar asked.

"Just my family and I," Harry said. "We could also show you how to build homes which are heated in the winter without fire and have lights," He offered.

Ellie looked at him in surprise. Caesar looked mildly interested.

"I will think about it. You can repair dam," Caesar said slowly.

"Thank you," Harry said.

Harry began assessing the state of the dam. Koba, the ape who didn't like humans at all, approached Caesar.

"If they get power they will be more dangerous. Why do you help them?" Koba signed.

"This is a chance to make peace with the humans. Not all of these humans treat us like mindless animals," Caesar replied. "Give time for peace to work. But if it doesn't we will be ready. I will keep an eye on them and learn how this dam technology works."

Koba thought about it and seemed to nod in agreement. Harry could sense that Koba was still upset. The ape had been twisted up inside emotionally. Seeing humans again brought all those painful inner scars back. Koba left the power house. Caesar came over and began watching Harry work.

"That other ape doesn't like us much. Humans did the scars to him?" Harry asked quietly.

"Yes. Koba bears many scars from human hands," Caesar replied slowly.

"What was done to him wasn't right. I'm sorry," Harry said.

"You weren't one who did it," Caesar replied.

"If only Caesar saw it that way," Harry said. He was quiet for a moment. Then he decided to give Caesar some advice. "Caesar, let me give you a little advice. Apes have only had higher intelligence for about a decade. As time goes on ape society will develop. There is something I have observed. With a higher level of intelligence comes a greater ability to do evil. Being intelligent doesn't mean a person will be evil. But it does mean that they can be and do greater damage."
Caesar contemplated Harry's words.

Half a minute later Caesar said, "You saying some apes might become evil." As he said this Caesar looked off towards where Koba had gone. Then he turned back to Harry, "But humans can also heal great wounds." Caesar remembered the healers who had taken care of him in his youth. "Can you teach us healing as well as how to heat our homes?"
"Yes. I believe we can," Harry agreed.

The rest of the day Caesar observed Harry and they continued to have discussions. Alexander was also nearby in the powerhouse soaking up what he could about the systems of the generator.

Later that Night

Harry worked with his wife and son to prepare dinner over a campfire. Carol sat invisibly nearby.

"That was the easiest fire I've ever had to start," Ellie commented.

"Gee I wonder why," Carol sent to Harry wryly.

"It must be our lucky night," Harry told Ellie. "So, I used my powers a little to help it along," Harry replied to Carol. "So, what did you think of the apes Alex?"

"I thought they were interesting," Alex said. "They don't really need heat to light their homes. I can see why Caesar asked about medicine."

As their doctor present Harry had filled Ellie in on Caesar's request.

"They may not need heat for their homes. But they could certainly be more comfortable if they had it. They would be less prone to sickness if they have heat in the winter," Harry said. "Their population could expand if that is the case."
"Some of the humans won't like they. There are those who blame the apes even though it was scientists in a lab who created the virus," Ellie said.

"Well some of the humans are going to have to get used to a different order if we get things up and running," Harry said.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"You were too young to remember before the outbreak. But our society was in serious trouble. We were going to destroy our planet from using up resources and overpopulation. I'm going to try to change things this time," Harry explained.

"How?" Ellie asked curiously.

"Well for one thing I'm going to try to limit our use of fossil fuels. We're going to run our homes off of this hydro-electric generator. I'm also going to start teaching how to build solar power systems. We can manufacture the components with a little luck. I also want to do something about the population. I'm thinking we need to limit the population intentionally. People will be restricted to 2 to 3 children," Harry explained.

"I like the renewable energy. I'm not sure people will go for the child restriction though. But maybe you can convince them. You would have a lot of clout if you do save them from living without power," Ellie said.

"Not that I'm going to leave it up to chance," Harry told Carol as he conveyed his idea of using nanites to restrict the population.

Humans would experience a lower birth rate than they did before. Harry would use nanites to rewrite the human genome so that over their lifetime an average human could only conceive 2 to 3 children.

"I can be pretty convincing," Harry said.

Harry shared a nice meal with his little family and they went to sleep soon after.

The Next Morning

It was lightly raining out. Harry, Alex, and Ellie were awakened by the sound of movement outside their tent. Maurice the orangutan was outside looking in. He was curious as were many other apes watching them. The family quickly went about getting ready for the day.

"Koba took two apes into the city to spy on the human colony," Carol reported. "He really isn't going to see much. Dreyfus moved quickly on your suggestion. He moved the weapons stockpiles inside yesterday. All of their training is being done behind closed doors."

"That is good to know," Harry said.

Harry could have found the information out himself. But Carol had taken the opportunity to go back and forth between Harry's group and the colony. There had been a large amount of roots growing into the dam's tunnel drainage pipes which would have blocked proper water flow. Traditionally it would have required explosives to clear in a timely manner. Harry knew the apes wouldn't have taken kindly to that. So instead he had gone in the night before and used his powers to clear the blockage.

"There is something else you should be aware of. Caesar's wife Cornelia is coming down with an illness. I have diagnosed her. It's an upper respiratory infection that if left untreated is potentially fatal. However the medicine Ellie has available to her should take care of it," Carol said.

While Carol was far beyond her old job as a healer of primates, it was still something she knew how to do.

"Thank you," Harry told his wife. "We will just wait and see if Caesar asks us for our help. It should go a long way in smoothing things over with the apes. Who knows…we might even win Koba over."
"I wouldn't hold your breathe on that one,"
Carol said.

Inwardly Harry agreed. But he was trying to keep a positive attitude about things. He was also not trying to look into the future to see how things turned out.

Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path

It was the following day when Caesar approached Harry about Cornelia.

"My mate Cornelia sick," Caesar said out loud in halting English. "Can you help?"
Ellie happened to be standing nearby.

"I would need to see her," Ellie said. "But I have medicines that may help."

"Take you to her," Caesar said. "What you need?"
"Just my medical kit," Ellie said. "Can you tell me how she is sick?"
"Have trouble breathing," Caesar explained as they began to walk.

"How long has she been sick?" Ellie questioned.

"Four days," Caesar said.

Soon they arrived at Caesar's home which was fashioned out of logs fashioned into a rather primitive but distinct style.

After examining Cornelia, Ellie said, "I believe it may be an upper respiratory infection. But without more advanced equipment I can't be sure. But I think these antibiotics should help," She said as she removed a bottle of pills from her medical kit.

Caesar helped them to get Cornelia to swallow two of the pills.

"Now what?" Caesar asked.

"Now we just have to wait," Ellie said.

They waited several hours. Cornelia slowly started to show some improvement.

"She looks better," Caesar said. "Thank you."
Normally the antibiotics wouldn't be working so well. But Carol was subtly using her abilities to aid the antibiotics.

"Thank you for helping us with the dam," Harry said. "Friends help each other out."

Caesar looked intently at Harry. Caesar actually had hopes for relations with the humans. Ellie made sure it was understood that Cornelia had to be given a full regimen of the antibiotics. Caesar and the other apes saw the utility in human technology, most of the other apes. Unknown to Caesar, Koba was gathering a small contingent of apes in secret to assault the human colony. It wasn't a large group, a dozen apes at best. But it was still a hostile force.

Back at the Dam

Harry debated how he should handle this situation with Koba. There was a distinctly anti-ape faction among the population of the human colony. But like the anti-human ape movement it was a small faction.

"It's tempting just to transport both factions somewhere remote and let them fight it out," Carol said, having sensed her husband's thoughts through the bond they shared.

"It is," Harry admitted. "I just find it frustrating that the factions still exist despite the steps I have taken to mitigate the situation."

"You have isolated Carver enough that his side shouldn't be an issue. But Caesar seems unaware of the true depths Koba is willing to sink to. He is still trying to gain influence with Caesar's son Blue Eyes," Carol pointed out.

"Caesar is still fairly naïve of the nature of his own peoples. But I don't blame him because they only gained true sentience and self-awareness a decade ago as a people, even though Caesar is mentally older. He hasn't had to deal with this," Harry mused.

"I doubt he would have had to deal with this if Koba hadn't been experimented on by humans," Carol admitted.

"Yes. But I don't really blame humans on experimenting on close-to-human species that don't have a higher form of intelligence. But this universe definitely has an example of where it comes back to bite them in the ass," Harry mused.

"That it does. It would have bitten us harder in the ass if you hadn't been here," Carol said.

Carol had been looking into other universes in the cluster of universes she lived in. Many had not been lucky enough to have a Harry.

"I do what I can," Harry said.

"What will you do?" Carol asked.

"I think I will let things develop with Koba. I won't allow Caesar to come to any serious harm. But I want Caesar to learn a lesson. I've already planted seeds about Koba. Caesar may come to realize Koba's duplicity on his own before I have to point it out to him," Harry suggested.

Carol nodded her agreement.

Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path

Carol watched from where she floated invisibly nearby as Ellie worked with the other apes in Caesar's colony to heal other ailments where she could. Carol knew more about primate physiology and could have done a better job even before her upgrades. But that wasn't surprising. Still, Ellie was doing a good job with what she had.

"She is beautiful," Carol thought to herself. "Then again, aren't we all," She mused as she thought on Harry's many wives and lovers.

If nothing else Carol thought her husband had excellent taste in women. If someone had told her a few years ago that she would be married to a sex god from another universe and elevated to possess power levels and abilities greater than the gods of myth she would have thought them crazy. But she was learning to accept her new position in life.

"It isn't like it is exactly a hardship," Carol mused. Indeed, Carol was still not used to the fact that she didn't have to struggle for survival anymore. Simple things like preparing food or paying bills weren't something she had to do as chores. There was no more cleaning of the house. "It isn't a hardship. But it is an adjustment," Carol told herself.

But it was an adjustment she was more than happy to make. Carol decided she needed another project to take up her copious free time, something she could do during her observations of the humans of this world. Then it came to her. She would organize a temporal retrieval team to go back in time and bring her parents back. She debated about doing it for her sister too. Ultimately, she decided she would likely bring her sister back. But later after her parents were back. That got Carol thinking about the best place to accommodate her parents. She didn't want to cramp her style with Harry. Then again Harry and Carol spent more time in this universe versus her birth universe. She would just keep her parents there. The musings of a powerful immortal could often times be amusing.

Things were going well at the dam. Harry finished up the final major repairs. The ultimate test came when the lights at the dam came back on. It wouldn't be confirmed for the apes and Harry's family until they traveled back towards the city. But he could already tell power was coming on for the small portion of the city the colony was in. Harry had created a small power grid for that portion of the city.

"Koba is industrious," Carol informed Harry.

"Let me guess," Harry said as he finished repairing one of the more minor systems at the dam. "He found a way to get around the fact I didn't allow him easy access to guns through the stockpile at the colony."

"Yes. He did," Carol answered. "He found a hunter's lodge with several hunting rifles."

"Well then I guess we better be prepared for some action," Harry said. "Aristotle, have a replicat watch out for Caesar. Frankly I'm surprised Koba knows how to load the guns. But then I guess I shouldn't be. Those mental enhancers the apes were given were really effective."
"Will do,"
Aristotle replied.

Carol had to force herself not to jump at Aristotle's response. She sometimes forgot about the presence of the replicats. Harry had offered to assign her one of the AI driven creatures. But she had elected to see what she could do without one. Harry had respected her desires.

When Caesar arrived at the dam and saw that the lights were working he said, "I know place to check."
Caesar had several more ponies brought. Alexander stayed with Maurice who he was becoming friends with. Harry helped Ellie up onto the horse before mounting one just beside her.

"Lead the way," Harry said to Caesar.

Caesar led the couple to an old gas station which had been overgrown by the surrounding vegetation. The lights were on.

"Well it looks like the power is working," Ellie said.

She got off her horse and went inside. It didn't take Ellie long to locate a CD player attached to a public address system. Ellie put on a CD.

When the song started playing Harry asked, "Care for a dance?"

Ellie and Harry began dancing. Caesar looked at the lights and listened to the song with a mixture of pleased surprise. When they finished their dance Caesar rode closer.

"We celebrate at my home," Caesar said.

It was dark out when the group reached the primate colony. Fires were lit burning in braziers and several apes held torches. Alex had joined them with Maurice. Caesar led the small family to the highest part of the colony. They could see a view of the city in the distance. A small section of San Fransisco was lit up.

"It worked," Caesar said as he pointed towards the lights.

Just then a healthy-looking Cornelia walked out onto a balcony of their home. Caesar looked at her with pleased surprise and went to his mate. Blue Eyes joined his parents in happy reunion for several moments. But then Caesar looked down and happened to spot Koba perched on an outcropping of rock below his home. Koba was out of sight of the other apes and was clearly aiming a rifle at Caesar. He hurried to push his family behind him. A shot rang out with the loud retort of a rifle. Caesar stood there stunned for a moment before toppling over into the undergrowth below falling past Koba and out of sight. The apes in the colony began calling out in panic and outrage. Koba had quickly left the rifle and hidden. It didn't take Blue Eyes long to spot the weapon and assume it was the humans.

Just then a fire flared up in the colony, spreading rapidly. Koba had also set this fire. Blue Eyes came running up with the discarded rifle and called out 'Human Gun.'

Maurice standing nearby the small family looked at them and said, "Run."

Harry and his family slipped away even as Koba came running up and took the gun from Blue Eyes.

"Humans kill Caesar," Koba called.

Moments later a voice rang out from seemingly everywhere saying, "Humans not kill Caesar. Koba shot Caesar using gun he found."

The apes appeared stunned.

"Voice lies," Koba called.

"Koba lies," The voice instantly replied. "Koba is trying to deceive apes. Koba hate humans so very much."

Blue Eyes appeared conflicted. He looked at Koba with sudden mistrust. He wasn't sure where this voice was coming from. But he knew of Koba's hatred for humans. He didn't know who to listen to. Koba realized he was facing an uncertain group of apes.

"Follow me to make humans pay," Koba called and then ran out of the colony.

Twenty-five apes followed him. But that was it. Meanwhile back at the human colony there was a party going on because of the restored power. Dreyfus was in his quarters looking at pictures of his deceased children when suddenly the message came across his tablet.

"Dreyfus, the scarred ape named Koba has attempted to frame the humans for an assassination of Caesar. Caesar is injured but not dead. Koba is heading to attack the colony with a force of only 25 other apes. The rest are confused and not sure Koba is telling the truth because of my intervention. You have been warned," Harry's anonymous message read.

Dreyfus leapt out of his seat and ran off to begin issuing orders. Twenty-six apes including this Koba wasn't a tremendous force. But it was still one that needed to be taken seriously.

"Parkins, pull all the troops back inside the compound. Intel suggests we've got a force of 26 hostile apes inbound," Dreyfus said.

"Yes sir," Parkins replied and began issuing orders.

It was about half an hour later that the 26 apes all came riding in on ponies. When he had originally planned this assault, Koba had planned to use the few guns he had at his disposal to make the defenders keep their heads down. But he had quickly realized that because of the voice he couldn't very well reveal those guns now. His few followers would turn on him realizing he had likely killed Caesar. Koba would have to make it work with what he had. He raised his spear and let out a war cry before spurring his horse on ahead. The horse began the cavalry charge. Because of the forewarning, Dreyfus had told his men to aim for the scarred ape in the lead. As a result, no less than five bullets tore into Koba and his mount from the first round of defensive fire. The follow-up rounds made sure that Koba, the ape who had so much hatred for humanity, was no more. Several other horses went down to defensive fire with their riders being thrown off their dying mounts. Dreyfus had also ordered the others to shoot the mounts first if possible. He wanted to make peace with the apes, not war if possible. The cavalry charge faltered as the attackers were thrown from their mounts until the charge had stopped altogether.

"Hold your fire," Dreyfus called while holding up the hand signal.

"What now?" Parkins asked.

"Now I try to talk sense into them," Dreyfus said as he got on the megaphone.

But before he could speak a man's voice rang out clearly seemingly coming from everywhere. While the voice was clearly a man it wasn't discernable as being recognizable to the defenders.

"I warned them of your coming just like I told you that humans did not try to kill Caesar," The voice said. "Koba was a liar. He tried to kill Caesar. Return to your colony. Caesar lives."

The followers of Koba picked themselves back up, some with broken bones from their fall, and began making their way back towards the way they had come.

"We're just going to let them go?" Parkins asked.

"Yes. We need to work towards peace," Dreyfus said. "I hope the party we sent out is ok."

Several of those listening nodded their agreement. With the exception of the rare few like Carver, most of the humans in the colony had seen enough warfare to last them multiple lifetimes. They had been through hard times in recent years. They were not so eager for a fight.

"What's to stop the apes from going to the dam and sabotaging it?" Tomkins said.

Tomkins was one of the colonists who knew the most about technology. The only reason he hadn't been on the dam team was because his skills were considered too great to risk out in the field.

"Nothing," Dreyfus admitted. "But hopefully Caesar and Malcolm will prevent that."
Tomkins nodded his understanding.

Back at Ape Colony

Harry knelt down and picked up the injured Caesar. As Harry touched Caesar the bleeding from the bullet wound stopped. Caesar was not heavy for Harry.

"Is he still alive?" Ellie asked.

"He lives," Harry assured.

"I don't have any of my medical supplies to operate on him," Ellie said.

"There is actually the remnants of a small medical facility near the dam," Harry said.

There was the structure in question near the dam because Harry had ordered it placed there. Aristotle had even managed to make it look authentic. The small family walked to the medical facility in question. It took some time. But they made it.

"You don't even look tired from carrying him," Ellie pointed out.

Harry grinned at her and said, "I guess my little workouts have been keeping me fitter than I thought."

Malcolm had always tried to keep himself in at least a minimal amount of shape by doing basic exercises several times per week. Ellie looked doubtful about that being the explanation. Caesar weighed enough that over that long of a distance even the fittest human should feel the fatigue.

"She doesn't believe you," Carol noted with amusement.

"That's because she is no dummy," Harry replied.

"Are you going to tell her about our nature, about her new nature?" Carol asked.

"If she pushes the issue then probably yes. If she doesn't push, I'd like to wait a little while longer. Living as a human can be more exciting at times because the danger is real to them," Harry answered.

"It can also be considerably more stressful," Carol pointed out.

"You make a good point. But the stress won't do any lasting harm to her, not with her new physiology," Harry replied.

It was always a tricky thing deciding on when Harry would let his new wives know that they were now an immortal being of immense power. He just let his instincts guide him.

"This place should have everything I need," Ellie said as she finished briefly checking over the supplies available. "Help me please."

Harry nodded and set Caesar down on a small medical exam table. Ellie began the procedure to remove the bullet. There were no complications in part thanks to the nanites Harry had injected into the wound through his contact with Caesar to make sure there were no complications. It was several hours later that Caesar woke up. He was still quite weak but very much on the mend.

"Where are we?" Caesar asked as he glanced around.

"Near your colony in a small abandoned medical facility," Harry answered.

"My family?" Caesar asked.

"They should be safe. Koba took a small force to attack our colony. But he was not able to gain many followers," Harry said.

"We must stop him," Caesar said as he tried to sit up.

"Rest," Ellie said gently.

"I was able to contact our people back at the colony. They repelled the force attacking. Koba is dead. But our people were aiming not to kill with the others. Very few apes died. Koba's followers headed back here in defeat," Harry explained.

Caesar laid back down thoughtfully.

"You were right. Apes no better than humans. Apes the same as humans. Koba was liar," Caesar said slowly. "And I was arrogant. Thought we were better than humans. I was wrong."
"Intelligence doesn't mean we are always right," Ellie said. "At least you lived to learn this lesson," She added.

"You are right," Caesar agreed. He looked at the three humans that had saved him. "Thank you for helping me. I am sorry apes attacked you."
"It wasn't your fault," Alex said to which Harry and Ellie nodded.

"He's right. You don't have to apologize," Ellie agreed.

"There may be friction between our people. We may have fights from time to time. But we have to learn to move past it," Harry said as he patted Caesar gently on his good shoulder. "Get some rest. I will go see if I can let your family know you are alive and here."

"Thank you," Caesar said.

Later

Caesar woke up as apes began coming into his room. He was enveloped in hugs from his wife and sons.

"Father," Blue Eyes cried with happiness as he initiated the hug.

"Son," Caesar said as he returned the hug along with hug his very happy wife.

"We thought you were dead," Cornelia signed.

"I almost was. But I survived because of Ellie and Malcolm," Caesar said.

Rocket and Maurice looked on from the doorway at the reunion, both happy to see Caesar lived.

"Koba is dead," Rocket signed.

"Killed attacking the humans," Maurice added.

"That ends that then," Caesar said. "Apes have to learn to tell truth from lies. Even apes can lie."
Nodding Maurice signed, "Hard lesson to learn. But Koba proved why it is a needed lesson."

Caesar reunited with his family and best friends.

A Week Later

Ellie laid in bed with her husband, her head on his shoulder. The sex they had just had left her in an amazing mood. She reflected on how much her life had improved since her husband had come into it. She had been alone and fighting to survive when she had first found Malcom and his son. Things had improved slowly. Since the establishment of the colony things had gotten a lot better. Then meeting the apes tension had happened for a while. But once the dam had been fixed things almost seemed like before the plague. Dreyfus had asked her husband to be the ambassador to the apes and to work with them. It was something Malcolm had been happy to do.

"A penny for your thoughts?" Harry asked as he stroked Ellie's naked back, also very satisfied by the sex they had just had.

She looked up at him and said, "I'm pregnant."
Harry let a wonderful smile slip onto his lips.

"That's wonderful news," Harry said before he kissed her.

"Are you sure that's wonderful? I know things have gotten better. But this world is still so dangerous," Ellie said.

"Trust me when I say that our children will always be safe. I will look out for them," Harry reassured her.

Ellie couldn't fathom how Malcolm could be so confident. But she believed him. She knew he would look after the little boy or little girl growing in her belly. Harry debated telling her that she was a super powerful being now with essentially the powers of a goddess. But he decided to hold off a while longer. Even though she truly faced no mortal dangers, the perception that she did helped make life a little more interesting for a while longer.

8 Months Later

Harry held Penelope in his arms and adored his newest daughter.

"She's adorable," Carol said even as she cradled their son Raymond in her arms.

Raymond was only two weeks older than his half sister. But already the baby was performing feats of power that would make wizarding parents in Harry's birth universe jealous and awestruck.

"She is," Harry returned thoughtfully as he watched Ellie nap before him.

Ellie looked beautiful Harry despite the fact she had just given birth six hours before. He had put her into an enchanted sleep to get her to rest. Already her upgraded physiology thanks to being his bonded mate was seeing her recover much quicker. Harry had been forced to suppress her healing factor so she didn't find out about it yet.

6 Years Later

"Penny has an imaginary friend," Ellie told Harry casually as she was getting dressed for bed.

"Oh yeah?" Harry asked as he sat in bed and watched his wife move about the room.

"Yeah. She said his name is Raymond," Ellie mused. "Such an interesting name. She said he is a little boy her age."

"That's interesting," Harry said while keeping his features schooled. "What does Tim say?"

Tim was Harry and Ellie's 4-year-old.

"He said he doesn't see Raymond and that Penny is making Raymond up," She said as she climbed into bed next to her husband.

"Maybe Tim will come to see this friend in time," Harry mused.

"Or maybe the imaginary friend phase will pass," Ellie suggested.

"Time will tell," Harry said before kissing his wife.

They didn't stop with mere kissing. It was a good night.

Ten Years Later

"Let me get this straight. You're a god. And you've made me essentially a goddess. You have many wives in many different universes," Ellie said as she sat next to her husband and tried to absorb the revelations.

It was only the fact that she hadn't aged a day since they had first met the apes which let her even partially believe him.

"That about sums it up," Harry said.

Harry had learned he liked explaining things to his new wives these days rather than simply releasing the knowledge of the bond.

"Why do you travel from universe to universe taking new wives?" Ellie asked.

"Adventure and because I'm male," Harry said with a grin.

Ellie rolled her eyes. Her husband never pushed her for sex. But she found she wanted it with him often. And it was fantastic mind blowing each time.

"I guess this explains why our sex life improved so drastically when you showed up," Ellie said. "What now?"
"Now, nothing changes until you are ready for it. When you are ready I will show you how to use your abilities," Harry said.

A Week Later

"I'm ready to learn," Ellie said.

Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path – PotA – Path

Two Hours Later

"This is fantastic," Ellie cried as she soared through the air.

"Flying is really the best way to introduce us to your lifestyle," Carol told her husband.

"That it is," Harry sent mentally to both women answering both of their statements.

Harry would give Ellie more time until she asked to meet some of his other wives and children. He decided Carol would be the first he met since they came from universes so close to each other. Ellie was taking everything quite well. He had gotten good at introducing them ladies to the bond. And this was to be expected since his powers only took him to universes where his lifestyle would eventually be accepted. He also thought he would introduce the two versions of Caesar he knew about to each other. But he could wait for that. Caesar would eventually realize that he, Cornelia, Blue Eyes, and all of the other apes Harry really liked were not aging. Neither were any of the humans in the colony who were not bad people. Harry would eventually limit the population when it grew too large. But he had decided that in this universe the humans and apes he liked didn't need to die unless it was from injury.

Ellie pulled up next to Harry in her flight and said, "What else can I do?"
Harry looked at his beautiful wives floating near each other, one unable to see the other, and decided he was really enjoying this reality. His mind couldn't help to possibly one day being with them both at the same time. But if that never happened he would still be happy with this universe cluster.

"Let me show you. It is easier to ask what you can't do," Harry said as he took her hand.

Author's Note (Very Important!)
Greetings Everyone,
For many years now I have been writing fanfiction (since 2009). I've put out what I have been told is an incredible amount of fanfiction. I wanted to give back to the fanfiction community after I had taken so much enjoyment from it by reading a lot of good works that the authors who came before me had written. So, I started writing. I figured it was a great way to give back.

I completely understand that not everyone's talents lay in writing. I've noticed that many of the authors I follow have created patreo n accounts. I've subscribed to several of them to support them and encourage them to continue writing. Let's face it. Real life can be very tough. One or two dollars can make the world of difference to an author, especially when many people decide to take part. So, please if you would like to see me producing more stories for you to read, please consider subscribing to my patreo n account. The lowest tiers of support are set on one dollar per month. My current job allows me quite a bit of time to write. But real life may be forcing me to go find a different job that pays better than my current job. A job that pays better is not going to leave me with much time to write if any. I want to continue writing. Please help me to do that and keep my current job.
Right now you'll find all the parts of the Planet of the Apes verse, all the parts of the Walking Dead verse, and the first two parts of the Supernatural verse on my patreo n account. So you'll get early access to my stories. I plan to post a new chapter every two weeks on there. And it is the smut versions.
Thank You,
Stargatesg1fan1
