(i'm updating once a week)

It wasn't as if Kara never dreamt of more, it was just that she had never allowed herself to wish for more. How could she ever wish for more when she could barely scrape by with enough money to support her mom, who had given everything for her when she was younger. Although her sister's palace job certainly helped, it just wasn't enough.

"Are you coming home today?" Kara balanced her phone on her shoulder as she struggled to lock the cafe door. When she finally got the key to turn, she grinned in triumph and shoved the key into her pocket as she started her walk back to the apartment.

"After the lottery announcement," Alex grunted on the other side, and Kara heard a muffle yell from her sister at someone in the background before her voice cleared up again. "I got assigned lottery duty. Ugh, some of those lottery winners are the single most snobby, annoying, and ughh."

Kara laughed loudly, ignoring the glare from an old man walking down the street the other way. "Yeah, those people..."

"I know you secretly want that to be you," Alex teased, and Kara gasped in offense. "Don't even try to counter that. I've had to sit through your excitable squeals every single year and your sad pouts ever since you were fourteen. Hey, you might even win this year! Last year doesn't mean you won't make it!"

The familiar apartment came into view and Kara sighed as she unlocked the front door of their apartment context, grabbing mail from the mailbox as she went. Three flight of stairs awaited her. "I didn't even enter this year, Alex. I can't just leave mom here. With her new treatment and how the doctor said that her condition might worsen, I can't leave her alone, Alex."

"You know, mom would want you to go for it," her sister's voice quiets, and Kara sighed again. "Say hi to my daughter for me. Tell her I'll be back as soon as I get the snobby kid back to the Academy. You know, Esme is turning out too much like you, I don't know if I like that."

"It's because her aunt is awesome," Kara shrugged, before remembering that Alex couldn't see her. "Anyways, I gotta go. I'll see you tonight. Don't forget my potstickers and pizza."

Alex groans. "How you're still alive is anyone's guess."

"HEY!"

Alex just laughed, before the tale-tell sign of a dial tone reached her ear and Kara pulled the phone away from her ears and glared at the offending object. Whatever. Just because her diet would be consider of potstickers and pizza everyday doesn't mean she won't eat healthy when her body asks for it! She fumbled with the apartment keys and glared at the offending object once more when it didn't open immediately.

"AUNT KARA!"

Esme jumped into Kara's arms the second the door opened, and Kara dropped her bag of leftovers from the cafe to catch the five years old. "HEY! How's my favorite niece doing?"

"You're funny, I'm your only niece," Esme giggled and pinched Kara's cheek and set a crown on the blonde's head. Kara pouted and set the girl down. "LOOK IT'S THE PRINCESS LOTTERY TIME! Here's your crown Princess Kara!"

"Ugh, you have your mom's sense of humor. And I am so not a princess."

"MOMMY SAYS THAT I HAVE AN AMAZING SENSE OF HUMOR!" Esme exclaimed and ran towards the television, plopping down on the sofa with a pillow hugged close to her chest and her eyes trailed on the television.

"Kara?" Eliza walked out from one of the bedrooms, and Kara grinned and placed her shopping bag on the counter. "You're back early."

"You know how it is, they wanted me to close the cafe early for the lottery," Kara sighs. "How are you doing, mom?"

"Comfortable," Eliza smiles and kisses the top of Kara's head. "Don't worry too hard about it."

Kara turns to the television as Esme turned the volume up, and watched as Cat Grant walked up to the stage with all her poise and elegance.

"At Krypton Royal Academy, those born to the royal life unlock their princess potential. Yet every year, one regular citizen of Krypton wins a full scholarship to the school with a chance to become a lady roal and change her life forever. Will it be you?"

"Ooh I wish, I wish, I wish!" Esme bounced excitedly on the couch and Kara laughed and walked over, ruffling her hair.

"When you're older, you'll enter, I promise! And you'll even see your mom everyday there, she'll love that."

The camera zoomed in on the Queen, Lilian Luthor, and Lena Luthor stanley stiffly beside her mother. Her head held high, her posture rigid. Everyone had heard the story, the kingdom was ruled by King Zor-El and Queen Alura before a tragedy struck and their allies, the kingdom of Thorul, provided the their own Queen to help rule the kingdom, establishing a stronger alliance between the two kingdom as King Lex Luthor took over Thorul and Lena Luthor is set to take over Krypton.

"To choose this year's lottery winner," Headmistress Grant glanced over at the royals. "I introduce Miss Lena Luthor."

Lena stood up straighter if possible, but Lilian blocked her path and took the microphone. "I believe you mean Princess Lena Luthor. My daughter will soon become ruler of Krypton."

Headmistress Grant covered the microphone, and Kara watches as the two women argue back and forward before Headmistress Grant gestured to the large lottery box. "Miss Lena."

The guard turned the large box, and Kara found herself holding her breath as the box stopped spinning, and Lena reached in, mixing it a few times before choosing one final slip of paper. She opened it, her eyes scanning the name.

"Kara Danvers."

"AND THERE WE HAVE IT! Kara Danvers is our lottery winner this year!"

"WHAT?"

Esme squealed loudly, jumping off the couch and pulling Kara with her. "Who's a lady royal? Kara's a lady royal! Who works at the palace? Kara works at the palace!"

"There's got to be a mistake-" Kara looked helplessly at Eliza, who just shrugged in response with a barely concealed grin. "I didn't enter my name into the lottery!"

"I DID!" Esme jumped into Kara's arms, who barely had enough time to hold onto the small child. "ONCE! OR TWICE!"

"Esme-"

"EVERY DAY! FOR A WHOLE YEAR!" Esme giggled and jumped onto the couch as Kara watched on, flabbergasted. "You've always talked about wanting to go with mommy, so I thought I'll help you! You're welcome!"

"Mom-"

"You always dream of going, dear, this is your chance," Elizabeth shrugs, smiling fondly.

"But I can't leave you alone-"

"I won't be alone," Eliza shakes her head. "Alex still basically lives here anyways, we got this, I promise. You're eighteen, this is your last chance of living out your dreams. Go for it."

"But-"

"Nope, go get your dreams, my dear."

"So you're the snobby kid that I needed to pick up," Alex teases from the front of the carriage, her tone teasing as Kara sulked at the back of the chariot. "You know, when you told me you didn't enter your name I almost believed you. I can't believe you're actually getting better at lying!"

"Your evil daughter entered me," Kara leaned against the back of her sister's seat from the seating area of the carriage. "She entered my name twice a day for a whole year, apparently."

"Wow, she must have gotten her genius from me," Alex grinned, and Kara reached over and slapped her sister over her head. "OW! What was that for? I'm steering here, idiot. Do you want us to crash? And what are you so upset about? Isn't this always your dream?"

"Well... yeah! But with mom being sick and Esme about to start first grade, I don't want to leave them by themselves," Kara sat back on the carriage seat, her back against her sister's as she took a bite out of the potstickers her sister bought her. "Have I ever told you that you're the most amazing sister ever?"

"Yep, but it wouldn't hurt to hear it multiple times a day," Alex glanced back slightly with a grin. "I ate your pizza though."

"What?!" Kara exclaimed in outrange, turning back to her sister once more. "No one touches my pizza!"

Alex rolled her eyes and raised her hand over to slap Kara over the head. "Shut up, you're about to attend Princess School on a full ride scholarship. Do succeed, will you? My team knows that you're my sister, and I refuse to lose my hard earned respect just because my little sister couldn't pass school."

"I'm eighteen, Alex, not twelve," Kara scowled, shoving the last of her potstickers into her mouth as the Academy came into view, a large historical building made of stones and red roofing. "And thank you, for your amazing faith in my academic ability."

"It is absolutely well earned," Alex protested. "Did you or did you not fail english your first year in secondary school?"

"IT WAS NOT MY FAULT THE TEACHER HATED MY GUT!"

"Um-huh," Alex nodded mockingly. "Of course not, I do hope you know that Lady Royal requires English skills, and I hope you possess those."

Kara slumped down on the carriage seat, crossing her arms over her chair. "I'll have you know I passed English with honor from my second year of secondary school all the way up until now."

"Yeah, those marks are lies," Alex teased as the carriage rolled to a stop, and Kara gazed upon the Academy with awe. "If you go now, I'll visit you every now and then to make sure you don't burn the school down."

Seriously, the audacity–

"I hate you so much," Kara smoothed out the crumble in her work shirt as Alex blew her a kiss goodbye.

"I thought you just said that I am your favorite sister!"

"I RETRACT THAT STATEMENT!" Kara yelled as her sister rolled the carriage away, leaving her alone in the doorstep of an unfamiliar Academy.

The two guards stationed at the door looked amused and Kara rubbed the back of her neck in embarrassment as she gestured to the door. "So... um... do I just walk in or..."

The guards didn't respond, and Kara shrugged and pushed the door open. "Okay..."

Loud chatter filled her ears as she walked into a library-like room, with rows of wooden bookcases lining the walls and torches lining the walls. Golden carpet rolled on the wooden ground and to her left stood a large staircase leading to the second floor.

I am so getting lost in here...

"Miss Danvers?"

Kara looked up as a short woman with choppy blonde hair walked down the stairs in a dark blue pencil skirt and blazer.

"Yes?"

"My name is Headmistress Grant, Miss Danvers. Welcome to Krypton Royal Academy."
