The Spectacular Spinneret
ESKK: Well, I guess we can go ahead and do chapter 2. So, let's get this started all you amazing Web Heads.
(Start Spinneret in New York)
Spinneret was web swinging through the city doing some patrols. With all the latest stresses going on she needed to unwind a bit. Peter had gone through her journal after Mary Jane had given it to him and needless to say he was praising his soon to be wife's forethought in making such a thing. Pen and paper were hard to argue, and Mary Jane used this fact perfectly. This allowed her to flee and be found by Madame Web beginning her cross dimensional journey to find Mayday and stick is sideways to Mephisto's machinations.
It was a long journey, but it was all worth every minute when Mary Jane was eventually reunited with the daughter she had lost. With Mayday in her arms again Spinneret had made the journey back to Earth-616 to fix the mess the fake Mary Jane had caused with Paul. Speaking of Paul, it seems the bracelet did have a subtle brainwashing aspect to it. This revelation was found out by both Reed Richards and Dr. Steven Strange and from there Paul being thrown out was a given.
Some people asked where Jackpot was one of them being this guy named Nick Lowe who was apparently a major fan of hers. MJ simply left a big enough notice for the news to realized Jackpot was done. Nick Lowe was apparently very upset about this and made it everyone's problem on the internet and in public. Mary Jane found out about it when he saw MJ and Peter on a date, and he was asking about Paul. Mary Jane told him calmly that she and Paul were done but then he got mad again with his views how MJ and Paul were meant to be together.
That argument had ended with Nick being escorted out and banned later. Peter and MJ had no idea who that crazy guy was but hopefully they'll never see him again. Back to subject Mary Jane had a lot of stresses going on in her life such as her marriage to Peter and sorting out her life after the imposter had nearly destroyed Peter's life during her stay. Jesus there was a lot of damage to fix and that also adding in the wedding plans and getting custody of Mayday as their daughter.
Spinneret landed on a building and sighed while hanging off the wall. Not the life she wanted but she can work with this new path. Still her concern also comes from what may result from this wedding. The contract had it so that she and Peter would sell their marriage to Mephisto to save May's life. When Mary Jane told Peter about it, he was scared because if they get married then May might die. Mary Jane was going to see this wedding through come hell or high water. Plus, she was as sure as hell not going to let Peter wallow in guilt for it either.
Peter needs to understand that there are times that the responsible thing to do… is to do nothing. If May dies, then Peter needs to let her go. Jesus, she sounded like the imposter there for a moment. But the point still stands, May lived a good long life she isn't going to get any younger. One way or another her time will come, and Peter needs to be ready for it. Though ironically enough May had been a huge help in that regard as well.
After she and Peter gave May the rundown of everything, she tore them both a new one. Of course, first she had Mayday go play outside for a bit as she did so. That old woman had fangs and knew how to use them. Mary Jane had already been beating herself up over that blasted contract, so she got off light in comparison to Peter. When even Aunt May was telling Peter that he should have let her die instead of selling his marriage and daughter to Mephisto you know Peter screwed up.
Though after the head died down May went back to the loving aunt and assured Peter that she had accepted her time would come. She knew that it would hurt Peter, but she also knew that when the time came Peter would endure it, he had to for the sake of his young daughter. Peter accepted this and despite everything thing were getting better.
Still, it paid to make regular visits to Strange to make sure Mephisto wasn't trying anything behind the scenes. He was still pissed that Spinneret found Mayday and brought the girl home despite Mephisto's obstacles. Spinneret was already being seen as a menace by Jameson and what not so MJ knew her new persona was off to a good start. After all, if a Spider Hero is seen as a villain by Jonah, then its clear you were a hero.
Still Mayday's powers were already coming in wonderfully. Mary Jane did not want to think how hard it would be to care for her daughter if said daughter was on the ceiling and Peter was away. Mary Jane was thankful that Madame Web managed to get her these powers so handling Mayday would be easier. Peter had already made the little girl her own web shooters despite Mary Jane thinking Mayday was too young for those things. Though they did agree on the rule of no powers in the dining room and Peter honored it.
Right now, they were holding off on sending Mayday to school for a bit. The girl had been through a difficult time and Mary Jane wanted to make sure that her daughter was actually ok. Right now, Peter was watching her at the apartment after Mary Jane took the liberty of putting his spider suit through the laundry washer. Peter never looked so annoyed then when Mary Jane revealed this. Plus, with Mayday home this left only Mary Jane available to go out on patrol.
Strange about the new Spider kid Miles Morales. Evern more strange that Mary Jane realized she barely had an interactions with him. And the less said about Paul the better though Peter did try pointing Shay his way. Bless his heart trying to be nice even to his enemies. Though Mary Jane wasn't entirely sure about giving your romantic rival your sloppy seconds not that Paul was even a romantic rival to begin with. Spinneret currently stuck to the side of a building and smiled at the scene of the city.
Yes, this was her city her life and she was taking it back bit by bit. Just then she saw an explosion nearby and with it knew she had to act. "Show time." Mary Jane said before she sent off a web line and went after the explosions source.
(Meanwhile at the explosion site)
Shocker stepped out of the smoke smiling under his mask with bags of money in his hands. "Pay dirt." Shocker said as he left the bank.
"Yeah, not so much!" Came a new voice and from it Shocker found the money ripped from his hands. "Honestly, I'm surprise there are still banks like this with everything going digital I figured the banks would be empty." Spinneret said as she held the cash.
"Oh, here is the Mrs. Spider." Shocker said as he began to channel the powers of his gauntlets. "Let me let you in on how things work around here." He said before sending a blast of sonic waves. Spinneret avoided it thanks to her spider-sense and from there she webbed Shockers back.
"Not so much." Spinneret said as she landed on the wall. Shocker cried out in pain but despite this he got back up and sent another blast at her. "Look mister I'd like to go home tonight so can we cut this fight short and take you to jail?" Spinneret said only to nearly get blasted by the blasts.
"How about I take you and cuck your boy toy." Shocker said only for Spinneret to kick him in the face.
"Language!" Spinneret said as she landed on the nearby flagpole. "And besides the last guy who tried that ended up living the worst life possible." Spinneret taunted as she looked down upon the Shocker.
Shocker roared and fired off another blast, but Spinneret was able to avoid it. But it was clear she was not the target of that attack. Soon enough Spinneret found the side of the building collapsing on her forcing her to move. But just as Spinneret was about to swing out of danger the debris had come to a stop.
Spinneret was surprised by this as even Shocker was confused. "You can lift rocks?" Shocker asked as Spinneret looked to the man.
"This isn't me." Spinneret said before a new voice cut in.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls introducing the grand rebirth of New Yorks best hero and future Avenger!" Came the voice and soon enough Spinneret was left wide eyed at what she saw. It was someone rearing the Jackpot outfit thought resized for someone with different sizes. "Congratulations you've hit, the JACKPOT!" Came the woman who Mary Jane had a sinking suspicion as to who it was.
"Wait Jackpot she was a thing?" Shocker asked causing Spinneret to mentally chuckle.
"She is now." Jackpot said as she smirked a very cocky way and hit her bracelet. The roulette wheels went off and soon the combo came. Jackpot then began jumping around similar to Spider-Man before she moved in and hit Shocker. Shocker was caught off guard by this as Jackpot began sending punches and kicks against him.
Acting fast Spinneret joined in and began to tag team on Shocker all the while confused as to why some other woman was wearing the Jackpot outfit. The worst part she had two suspects of who this new Jackpot was. Shocker was unable to handle the two of them and soon he was sent flying followed by Spinneret webbing him and slamming him against the trashcan. Once that was done, she proceeded to web him up.
"Check it out!" Jackpot was heard as she dragged Spinneret and had her smartphone out. "My first team up with a C lister!" Jackpot said taking a picture and following it up with a few more. Spinneret was like a deer in headlights as she tried to make sense of what was happening right now. "Enjoy the blog I'll content for all you guys coming soon." Jackpot said to her phone and then began to post it all on her blog.
"What the fuck is going on!?" Spinneret yelled while Shocker was out cold hanging on the lamp post Mary Jane left him attached too.
"What does it look like the big debut of a new superhero." Jackpot boasted as she then did a mock bow. "The High Rolling Jackpot at your service." Jackpot said and thus Spinneret glared at the woman before her. Just then she turned around and began to speak into her bracelet. "Hey baby, mind sending an anonymous tip to the police to pick up Shatter." Jackpot said not caring to remember the man she helped take down was the Shocker. "Thanks." She said and thus Mary Jane had enough of this.
"Ok Vanna that's enough of this." Spinneret said causing Jackpot to nearly freeze up.
"Spinneret I have no idea who you're talking about but." Jackpot began only for Spinneret to web her visor and yank it off revealing Vanna Smith. Vanna cried out in shock and covered her face before putting on a pair of sunglasses she kept for such an incident. She then nabbed back her visor and glared at Spinneret.
"Ok Watson not cool!" Vanna snapped as she tried to get the web off from her Jackpot visor.
"Vanna what the heck are you doing?" Spinneret asked as she looked at the woman. "And on the subject how the heck do you still know who I am?" Spinneret asked glaring at Vanna who put her visor back on.
"Simple I nabbed a spare bracelet to secure the memories prior to being left at the police station." Vanna said showing the bracelet in question. "I'm sure your wondering what my amazing origin story is, sorry my bloggers have to twiddle their thumbs and so will." Vanna began returning to her Jackpot persona only for Spinneret to cut her off.
"After you were picked up you found out the hard way how little you mattered and since you didn't want to be ignored you found Paul put the Jackpot outfit back together and now you two are taking back the old roles you had when you were impersonating me." Spinneret said seeing she didn't have to be a detective to know this was all just Vanna Smith throwing a temper tantrum after being ignored in both her life and blog.
Jackpot glared at Spinneret for a second before responding. "Shut up." Jackpot said glaring at Spinneret. "And don't worry the restraining order is no longer valid you and your hubby can be near me now especially now that I'm joining the hero gig." Vanna boasted causing Spinneret to sigh in frustration over this new development.
"Vanna honey do yourself a favor and hang up the costume trust me when I say you don't have what it takes." Spinneret said trying to get Vanna to see reason.
"Oh, don't be jealous because I capitalized on being Jackpot after you spat in Paul's face for getting you this power." Vanna said and while she knew the power was hers it was given to her under the guise of giving it to Mary Jane.
"Wait you and Paul? I mean great for you and him, but you do know he's emotionally manipulative right?" Mary Jane asked looking at Vanna like she grew a second head.
"What can I say once our masks came down, we were just meant to be." Vanna went on while Mary Jane suspected there was more at work here. "Now with he and I as a team the Jackpot name will hit every street corner in the country, we'll be a franchise!" Vanna said imagining it all, Jackpot Merchandise, Jackpot resorts, and Jackpot theme everything.
"You just doing this to get famous." Mary Jane said realizing what Vanna was doing.
"That's the whole point of superheroes." Vanna said making it clear that becoming a superhero was a fast track to fame and riches. "Pretty soon Jackpot will be the biggest heroine on this side of the United States." Jackpot said before she switched to the power of flight and flew off. "See ya Spinneret the soon to be used to be." Jackpot said before she was gone from sight leaving a very frustrated Spinneret behind in the dust.
(Scene Break the Parker/Watson Apartment)
"I cannot believe this!" Mary Jane Watson cried out as she and Peter sat around the computer. Mayday had been sent off to bed and at the moment the couple were looking at what was clearly Vanna Smiths newest Blog. All of it was dedicated to her actions as Jackpot. "I mean look at this she's cashing in on the crap you went through!" MJ announced as Peter saw it.
"Ok your upset but MJ I don't see the issue here." Peter said as he would have just let it go and be done with it.
"She's using it to get famous does she have no idea how dangerous that will be?!" Mary Jane said as Peter had to admit MJ had a point.
"Ok I see the issue; I mean she's treating it like a cash grab." Peter said feeling like someone should step in to stop her. "And we're sure she and Paul are together, right?" Peter asked not wanting any issues involving Paul going forward.
"Either they're together or someone is using someone." MJ said as she would not put it past Paul to use this as a means to make her jealous. That is completely petty and mind you she only knew Paul for maybe a few months to a year long enough for those two fake kids to show up.
"Look MJ if you want my opinion, just let it go." Peter said as he sat next to Mary Jane and closed the blog. "If this bites her, we step in and save her like any other person." Peter said making it clear that its better to let it go and step in and save her when she bites off more than she can chew.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Mary Jane said as she had to remind herself that part of her life was done. But it seems that Vanna was trying to fill the role herself. This cannot possibly end well for anyone.
(Meanwhile the Rabin/Smith Residence)
Jackpot arrived back at her apartment that Paul moved in to. She was lucky her parents managed to get her this place for such a good deal. Vanna had moved in here so restart her life and after about a month of being a woman with nothing to show for her life Vanna wanted a change. Plus, it would stick it sideways to Spider-Man and Spinneret that she can pull the whole hero thing better then they can. So, after tracking down Paul they conspired and in turn Jackpot was reborn.
"Hey honey." Paul greeted when he saw Vanna enter the room.
"Hey baby." Vanna said giving him a peck on the cheek before going to her computer and opening her blog. Vanna grinned when she saw her team up with Spinneret was already getting views. Smiling at the scene Vanna cracked her knuckles and began to type once more. The Jackpot Blog was off to a good start, but she knew she needed to do more in heroic actions.
She started small stop a mugger, get a cat out of a tree, and helped a few smaller people. The fact she helped stop a bank robbery by the Shocker was already moving Jackpot up the standings in heroes. "Well seems we're doing great online." Vanna said as Paul entered and nodded to his girlfriend. "I have no one… I'm nothing I'll show you whose nothing bitch." Vanna said as she smirked at the computer and hit send on her latest update. She cant bad talk Mary Jane as Vanna or Spinneret as Jackpot, but she can bad talk Mary Jane as Jackpot and Spinneret as Vanna.
It was just like when she got the restraining order against Spider-Man. Vanna portrays herself as an angry citizen against Spinneret and then has Jackpot portray herself as someone who is not a supporter of Mary Jane and her career. Nick was proving to be the perfect dupe when she found out about his accosting the woman and Peter at a café once.
"Going to need to target bigger crooks soon, Shocker was a good first start." Vanna said as Paul nodded along with Vanna. "Hey Paul get me a list of the bigger villains in New York see who might be able to push my popularity forward." Vanna said but then Paul spoke.
"Hey maybe we should do something else with this." Paul suggested as he felt they could be more… upfront with what they were doing.
"Paul baby listen Spider-Man and Spinneret have too many friends for us to go for them directly." Vanna said as she stood up and rubbed Paul's shoulders easing him into the sofa. "Your smart and I know you want revenge against them both, Parker for stealing your life and Watson for abandoning you and I want the same." Vanna said with a smile on her face. "Subtle and indirect is the best way to go and they know that if they expose us then we can expose them." Vanna said showing that this was the best plan they had.
"Yeah, but I can't stand sitting around for the long game." Paul said as he wanted his own payback against them. But he also wanted Mary Jane as his as well.
"I know but remember Mary Jane abandoned you I stuck around even after the truth was revealed." Vanna said smiling to Paul. "You made me into Jackpot and I'm grateful for that even more so when you made me Jackpot again." Vanna said and then whispered into his ears. "And once we make Jackpot famous enough it will be Parkers and Watsons turn to be in poverty while we enjoy the lavish life of the wealthy." Vanna whispered before playfully biting Paul's ear filling him thoughts with ideas of revenge.
"Hey, I thought this was all my idea." Paul said smirking at Vanna.
"Maybe but I improved it." Vanna said as their enterprise was in the first stage. Once they get enough popularity, they can enter phase 2 to ruin Parker and Watson forever more. "Now come on lets start planning our next move." Vanna said knowing that while they cannot pay super villains to do things for Jackpot to save the day, they can organize other methods by giving said villains a bit of an idea to break the law and get rich.
