Sasuke and Sakura had finally settled into their room. Sakura had already showered and was sitting on the edge of the bed, drying her short pink hair with a towel. She could feel the familiar tension in her chest—an odd fluttering, almost like nervous excitement. After all, they'd shared a room for weeks now, but this was different. The bed wasn't that big, and the thought of actually sleeping in the same bed had her stomach doing flips.
She shook her head and muttered to herself, "There's nothing to be so excited about. It's just sleep. Just sleep, Sakura."
She hung the towel out on the balcony to dry, then went back inside to comb her hair. A sigh escaped her lips as she gazed at the bed, already imagining what it would feel like. "This is ridiculous," she muttered under her breath.
Unbeknownst to her, Sasuke had just finished washing up and emerged from the bathroom, dressed in his usual black shirt and dark pants, his damp hair sticking out from the towel he was using to dry it. He was still drying it when he heard Sakura's voice, her words faint but clear in the stillness of the room. He raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued.
"Are you okay?" Sasuke asked in his usual calm, almost monotone voice, not realizing how suddenly his appearance might startle her.
Sakura's head snapped up in surprise, and she let out an awkward little squeak, dropping her comb. Her cheeks flushed as she fumbled to pick it up. "Ah! Sasuke! You startled me!" she said, laughing nervously, her hand still lingering on her hair. "I—uh, I was just thinking… about how we could spend the afternoon. You know, maybe get out and explore the town a little."
Sasuke, looking at her with his usual unreadable expression, couldn't help but notice the slight pink tint on her cheeks. "Hm."
"So, do you want to go out and explore a bit, or would you rather rest in the room?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with the hint of excitement.
"I'm not tired," Sasuke answered. "Exploring sounds like a good idea."
Sakura's smile widened, and there was a warmth in her chest that she couldn't quite describe. She quickly stood up, brushing off her pants. "Great! I'm ready whenever you are."
They left the room together, stepping into the lively streets. The town had a serene yet bustling feel to it, a popular vacation spot for tourists, especially couples. As they walked, Sakura couldn't help but notice how many pairs of people walked hand in hand, the girls linking arms with their boyfriends or holding their hands affectionately.
Sakura glanced at Sasuke, noting that he kept his usual distance, not making a move to touch her. She was used to it—used to the quiet understanding between them, the way Sasuke valued privacy and wasn't one for public displays of affection. She knew that, deep down, no matter how much she longed for it, he wasn't ready for that level of physical intimacy in public.
But the thought didn't make her sad. She understood him better than anyone else. She knew that it wasn't a lack of affection.
Sasuke, on the other hand, was aware of her thoughts. He'd seen how, in every interaction, Sakura respected his boundaries, always considerate of what he needed, never pushing him too far. He knew that her love for him went beyond the surface—she truly cared, and she never wanted to make him uncomfortable. It was one of the reasons why he felt so connected to her, and it made him want to try harder.
Sasuke knew that love couldn't survive on understanding alone. A relationship needed more than that. It needed effort, it needed balance, and most importantly, it needed him to open up—to break some of the walls he'd spent years building around himself.
Without thinking, Sasuke slowly moved his hand closer to hers. His fingers twitched, the faintest movement that barely caught Sakura's attention. He hesitated for a moment, but then, without further hesitation, he extended his little finger. It brushed against hers, and in a gentle, almost imperceptible motion, he drew her hand closer to his.
Sakura froze, the surprise catching her off guard. Her heart skipped, and for a moment, she almost didn't believe it. Sasuke was holding her hand. Her breath caught in her throat.
Sakura looked up to see Sasuke. A faint shade of pink was on his cheeks and he also looked down to look Sakura in the eye. She didn't know what this was or what it could be called but Sakura loved the fact that she could read him so well with just a glance, and she knew he had this too.
As soon as their eyes met it was like they were in another world, another dimension just the two of them and no one else.
She smiled—genuinely, deeply—and squeezed his hand just a little bit tighter.
The evening was drawing closer, and with it came the familiar hum of activity. Laughter and chatter filled the air as the scent of delicious food wafted from nearby stalls. The town had become even more alive with the approach of dinner, and the lively buzz of the crowd only grew louder. Sakura could feel the energy around them, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she and Sasuke were drifting away from the noise. It was almost as if they were carving out their own little world.
Sasuke, who had been quietly observing the crowd, suddenly glanced at a small store tucked between two larger buildings. His eyes lit up with a thought, and before Sakura could ask what he was thinking, he turned to her.
"Wait here for a moment," Sasuke said, his voice calm but carrying an unusual sense of purpose.
Sakura blinked in surprise. "What are you going to do?"
Sasuke merely nodded toward the store and gave her a quiet smile that, for once, didn't feel awkward. "I'll be right back."
With that, he disappeared into the store. Sakura watched him go, curious about what he could possibly be buying. After a few moments, he returned, his usual cool demeanor still intact, but there was something different about the small bag he held. It was a simple cloth bag, nothing fancy, but the way he held it—almost protectively—piqued her interest.
Before she could ask, Sasuke looked around, scanning the street and the crowd. When his eyes found her again, his gaze softened, and without a word, he gently grabbed her hand.
"Come on," he said simply.
Sakura blinked, surprised by the gesture, but she squeezed his hand and followed him as he led her through the narrow path between buildings. The further they went, the quieter it became, until the buzz of the town was a distant memory. The path eventually opened up, and she gasped when the trees parted, revealing the stunning view of the sea stretching out before them.
The sun was low on the horizon, casting a golden glow across the water, while the sound of the waves crashing against the shore filled the air. The scene was peaceful, almost surreal in its beauty. Sakura stood for a moment, taking it all in, the wind gently blowing her hair and the salty air mixing with the warm evening.
She turned to Sasuke, her heart full as she smiled at him. "It's beautiful here…"
Sasuke, watching her quietly, nodded. "I thought you'd like it."
Without another word, Sakura walked down to the water's edge, feeling the cool sand beneath her feet. She let the waves lap at her toes, and the chill of the ocean water sent a jolt through her, making her laugh. "It's freezing!"
Sasuke, still standing a few steps behind, raised an eyebrow. "Don't stay too long," he said with a small smirk. "You'll catch a cold."
Sakura, laughing softly, slowly walked back to where Sasuke was standing. She wiped her wet feet on the sand and turned to him, her curiosity getting the better of her. "So… what's in the bag?"
Sasuke looked down at the cloth bag in his hand, as if he had almost forgotten about it. "I bought fish," he said, his voice steady, though there was a hint of something else in his tone—something that made Sakura smile even more. "I thought we could have dinner here, by the sea. It's quiet, and I thought you might like it better than the noise of the crowd."
Sakura's eyes widened, touched by the gesture. Her smile softened as she walked over to him, lightly cupping his cheek with her hand. "You're the best, Sasuke."
Without thinking, she leaned forward and kissed his cheek, just a quick peck, but enough to make Sasuke's heart skip a beat. He didn't respond immediately, but his face turned a shade of pink that was rare for him. The warmth from the kiss lingered, and for a moment, they just stood there, surrounded by the peaceful setting.
After a beat, Sasuke cleared his throat, visibly trying to regain his composure. "I'll go find some wood for a fire," he said, his voice a little gruffer than usual, though there was a small glint of amusement in his eyes. "You stay here. Don't wander off."
Sakura chuckled, watching him walk toward the trees. She took the bag and started checking to see if the fish was cleaned and ready to be cooked.
In a few minutes Sasuke returned and left the trees he had found on the ground. With a simple movement he created a small fire using his Katon.
Sakura smiled to herself, impressed by how natural it had become for them to work together in these moments. As she set the fish over the flames, she couldn't help but glance at him. "Hey," she began, breaking the comfortable silence between them. "Do you know how many nutritional benefits fish have?"
Sasuke raised an eyebrow, his attention momentarily shifting from the fire to her. "No. What benefits does it have?" he asked, knowing this was one of those topics that Sakura adored.
Sakura's eyes sparkled as she launched into one of her long-winded explanations. "Well, fish is a great source of protein, which helps build and repair tissues. Plus, it's packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain function and can reduce the risk of heart disease. It also has vitamins like D and B2, and it's an excellent source of minerals like iodine and selenium…" She continued, rattling off the details with enthusiasm, her hands moving animatedly as she spoke.
Sasuke nodded every now and then, genuinely listening. She was a powerful woman, someone who had become both a healer and a good kunoichi. As they ate, he could see the passion in her eyes as she explained in detail how easily fish was digested by the human stomach. A topic that was of no importance to Sasuke, but seeing how passionately she was speaking made him listen attentively and not interrupt for a moment.
Sakura finished her explanation and gave him a warm, expectant look, her voice softening as she finished. "...And that's why fish is such a good choice for..." she stopped mid-sentence, her eyes fixed on something in the distance.
Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
Sakura didn't answer right away. Her gaze was so focused that Sasuke felt a curiosity tug at him. "Sakura?"
She gestured toward the beach with her chin, still staring intently. "Look straight ahead. Do you see it? A cat...near the sea?"
Sasuke looked over in the direction she pointed. At first, he didn't see anything out of the ordinary, just the waves. But then, just near the waterline, he saw it—a small ball of white and beige fur. It was darting around playfully, dipping its paws into the waves.
Sasuke's face softened ever so slightly as he took in the sight, his lips pulling into the smallest of smiles. "I see it now."
Sakura's eyes lit up with excitement, her hand immediately grabbing his. "Let's go see it!" she urged, practically jumping to her feet. Sasuke followed her, silently amused by her enthusiasm, though he didn't show it as they walked toward the little kitten.
As they approached, the tiny creature didn't seem scared. Instead, it padded toward them, its tiny paws splashing through the water. It looked up at them with wide, curious green eyes. She was so small, no more than 2 months maybe.
Sakura's eyes sparkled with joy. "Oh my goodness, look at this little one!" She crouched down and held her hands out. "Come here, little one…"
The kitten, not at all shy, bounded toward her, its little tail high with excitement. Without a second thought, Sakura scooped it into her arms, her face lighting up like a child on her birthday. "It's so soft! And so cute!"
Sasuke stood back, watching with a small smirk as Sakura cradled the kitten, its little body purring in her hands. The sound was almost melodic as it seemed to rumble with contentment.
Sakura's voice softened as she looked at the cat. "I always wanted a pet, you know. But my parents… they never let me have one. They said it would ruin the house." She shook her head with a laugh. "I think they were just afraid it would scratch up the furniture."
Sasuke tilted his head slightly, his gaze steady on her as she fussed over the cat. "Would you want one now?" His voice was more neutral than the conversation warranted, but there was something about the way he asked it that made it seem less like a question and more like an offer.
Sakura's eyes widened, a surprised gasp escaping her lips. "Wait, you mean… I could actually keep this little cat?" Her voice was a mix of disbelief and excitement.
Sasuke nodded, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Yeah. If you really want to."
Before he could say anything else, Sakura did something so sudden, so full of emotion that it took Sasuke by surprise. She threw her arms around his neck in a tight hug, the kitten almost forgotten in her excitement.
"Thank you, Sasuke-kun! Thank you so much!" She laughed, her face pressed into his shoulder, not noticing the way Sasuke's heart skipped a beat at the sudden warmth of her hug.
Sasuke gently placed a hand on her back. "It'll be difficult to keep it while we're traveling," he said, his tone thoughtful but not dismissive. "We don't always know where we'll be staying, and some places don't accept pets. It's not going to be easy."
Sakura pulled back from the hug, still holding the kitten, but her eyes were shining with gratitude. "I don't care. I'll make it work. I really will. I can't believe I get to keep him!" She turned the kitten in her arms to show Sasuke. "Look at him! He's perfect!"
Sasuke couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm. "I can see that. But we'll have to make sure he's well taken care of."
Sakura leaned up, planting a quick kiss on his cheek, making Sasuke's eyes widen slightly in surprise. It didn't matter if it was the 100th time she kissed him on the cheek, his heart would beat as fast as if it were the first time.
"Thank you," she said softly, her voice filled with more gratitude than she could express. "You have no idea how much this means to me." She pressed her cheek to his briefly, before turning her attention back to the kitten, her joy contagious.
After a while they were walking back toward the inn, the small white kitten still nestled in Sakura's arms. She was looking down at the little creature, who seemed content enough, occasionally pawing at her hands or snuggling into her chest. But something about the way she was staring at it had Sasuke raising an eyebrow.
He chuckled softly. "What are you doing to it now?"
Sakura blinked up at him, her face full of concentration as she examined the kitten's face. "I'm trying to figure out what to call her," she said, her voice thoughtful. "I've been calling her 'he,' but... I think she's actually a female."
Sasuke's lips quirked upward into a smirk as he watched Sakura closely. "I guess you'll have to call her 'she,' then."
Sakura looked at the kitten in her arms and then back at Sasuke, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Looks like I made a mistake."
Sasuke leaned in slightly, a teasing glint in his eyes. "I guess that makes me lucky. Two females accompanying me on this trip," he said, his voice dry but laced with humor.
Sakura's eyes widened, and she let out a loud laugh, her cheeks flushing just a little. "You are really asking for it, aren't you?" she said, nudging him playfully with her elbow. "First me , now the little cat. You're surrounded."
Sakura glanced down at the cat, then back up at Sasuke. "Speaking of 'surrounded,' how are we going to get her into the hotel tonight?"
Sasuke glanced over at the inn, his eyes narrowing slightly as he thought about it. "We'll figure it out," he said coolly, a plan forming in his mind.
Sakura raised an eyebrow, already knowing he had something up his sleeve. "Oh? And how do you plan to do that?"
Sasuke smirked. "Simple." He stepped forward, his long coat billowing slightly in the breeze, and without waiting for her response, he pulled the kitten from Sakura's arms and gently placed it inside his coat. "I'll hide her under my coat."
Sakura stared at him, blinking in surprise. "Under your coat? You're going to sneak her in like that?"
Sasuke gave a slight nod, looking completely unfazed by the idea. "No one will notice, she is small."
She leaned closer to him, whispering conspiratorially, "What if she meows in the middle of the lobby? Are you going to pretend you're just... snoring?"
Sasuke's smirk widened as he adjusted the kitten carefully under his coat, making sure it was snug and wouldn't fall out. "I'll figure something out," he said with a quiet confidence that only he could muster. "But if it comes to that, I'll just tell them it's my... emotional support animal."
Sakura's laughter bubbled up again, louder this time. "Emotional support animal?" She shook her head. "I can't believe you just said that with a straight face."
Sasuke and Sakura entered their room, finally escaping the bustle of the night and the slight panic of smuggling a kitten into the inn. The door clicked shut behind them, and they both exhaled in relief. The kitten, still nestled snugly in Sasuke's coat, peeked out curiously as they stepped inside.
Sasuke carefully lowered the kitten to the ground. "There you go," he said with a quiet but satisfied tone.
Sakura immediately dropped to her knees, excitement lighting up her features. "Alright, little one, time for your first bath!" She reached out toward the kitten, her hands gentle but determined.
Sasuke raised an eyebrow, watching her with mild amusement. "You're sure about this? Cats don't like water."
Sakura rolled her eyes, clearly undeterred. "She's still young. She'll get used to it. Besides, she's going to be traveling with us, so a little cleanliness is a must." She grinned down at the kitten, who, despite its tiny size, immediately started wriggling and trying to scamper away.
Sasuke leaned against the wall, clearly entertained by the situation. "Good luck with that."
Sakura ignored him, expertly scooping up the kitten and carrying it to the small tub in the corner of the bathroom. She turned on the water gently, making sure it wasn't too hot, before dipping the kitten's tiny paws into the water.
The second the kitten's paws touched the water, it let out an aggressive, high-pitched yowl, its fur puffing up in alarm. The poor thing hissed, squirming violently, and its tiny claws extended, scratching at the air in panic.
Sasuke couldn't help but laugh, a rare, unguarded sound that filled the room. "Looks like she's got a little bit of fire in her."
Sakura scowled, holding the squirming kitten carefully as she tried to keep it under control. "I'm starting to think you were right," she muttered under her breath, water splashing onto the floor. "But she'll get used to it."
Sasuke's chuckles echoed through the room. "You sure about that? Because I don't see her getting any less... territorial."
The kitten let out another indignant hiss, its fur drenched but its spirit clearly not broken. Sakura sighed but smiled, her eyes glinting with determination. "Oh, don't worry. I know how to handle nervous creatures. She's just... giving me a hard time."
Sasuke leaned against the doorframe, watching the amusing scene unfold. "She looks a lot like you when you're angry."
Sakura, who had been trying to calm the cat, froze mid-motion. She glared up at him, her hands still gripping the kitten gently. "What did you just say?"
Sasuke's smirk deepened. "I said the cat looks a lot like you when you're angry."
Sakura's eyes narrowed in disbelief. "Oh, really? So you're telling me that this"—she gestured toward the cat, still hissing and squirming in her hands—"looks like me when I'm angry?" She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I don't think so, Sasuke-kun. You haven't even seen one percent of my deamons."
Sasuke raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by her reaction. "I'm sure I haven't," he said, his voice smooth. "But if you ever get that worked up, I might need to prepare myself for a lot more than just hissing."
Sakura puffed her cheeks out in mock irritation, but she couldn't hide the smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "You're impossible, you know that?"
The kitten, now thoroughly soaked, had calmed down a little, though it was still giving Sakura wary looks. She dried it off with a towel, gently patting its fur and muttering sweet reassurances. The kitten gave a disgruntled little meow, but it seemed to accept its fate for now.
"There we go," Sakura said, standing up and letting the kitten walk around the room, her hands on her hips. "You're all clean now. You're welcome, by the way."
Sasuke observed the kitten cautiously exploring the room, its tiny paws padding across the floor. "Looks like she's more comfortable now," he noted, though his voice was tinged with humor. "Good thing she didn't scratch you up too badly."
Sakura gave him a sidelong glance, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Yeah, well, you might want to watch out. I think she's already planning her next attack and you might be the next victim."
The two then got ready for bed by changing and putting on their pajamas. The tension that tonight they would sleep together for the first time gripped them again.
Sasuke climbed into bed first, his movements quiet and deliberate. He was usually calm, unbothered, but tonight there was something different about the way he settled himself in, as if every movement held more weight than it should.
Sasuke turned his head slightly, breaking the silence in his usual low, measured tone. "Which side do you want to sleep on?"
Sakura's heart skipped at the simple question, her mind momentarily blank. It was just a question about where to sleep, but somehow, it felt like more than that. She paused for a moment, her mind racing. She had dreamed of situations like this—small moments where she and Sasuke would finally be together, living out the fantasies she'd carried for years.
"I'll sleep on the right side," she said, her voice soft but steady.
"Right side," he repeated quietly, as though confirming it for himself. Without another word, he lay down on the left side of the bed.
Sakura followed suit, lying down and turning to face him as well, both of them maintaining just the right amount of space between them—just enough to acknowledge the tension that still lingered, but close enough to feel the quiet energy in the air.
The room was silent except for the soft rustle of the blankets, and then, just when the stillness seemed unbearable, there was a small, soft thump. The kitten, having followed them to the bed, hopped up with surprising agility, and within moments, it had settled comfortably between them, curling up underneath the blankets at their feet.
Sakura couldn't help but laugh softly at the sight of the tiny creature, her nervousness lifting slightly. "Looks like the little one is joining us too," she said, her voice light with amusement.
Sasuke looked down at the kitten with a quiet smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He glanced back up at Sakura, and for a moment, there was a fleeting softness in his expression. "Seems like it," he said, his tone warmer than usual.
Sakura grinned, watching the kitten wiggle around before finding its comfortable spot, its tiny purring vibrations mixing with the peaceful ambiance of the room.
Sasuke turned his head slightly, the flicker of curiosity in his eyes now. "Have you thought of a name for her yet?" he asked, his voice soft but tinged with genuine interest.
Sakura blinked, startled by the question. She hadn't even thought about it. "Not yet," Sakura admitted, glancing at Sasuke. "I haven't thought of anything that fits yet. Do you have any ideas?"
Sasuke thought for a moment, his gaze drifting to the kitten before looking back at her. "How about 'Mochi' ? She looks like one." he suggested, his voice steady but thoughtful.
Sakura's eyes widened at the suggestion, a surprised smile spreading across her face. "Mochi?" she repeated, the name almost too cute to believe. "That's... that's actually a really cute name. I love it."
Sasuke's gaze lingered on Sakura, her soft features illuminated by the dim light of the room. There was a certain tranquility in the way she looked at him, her eyes filled with a sweetness that made his chest tighten. It wasn't just her beauty—it was the sincerity of her affection, the way she gave herself to him without hesitation, without reservation.
Sasuke couldn't help but think about everything that had led them to this moment. All the years he had spent running, all the mistakes he had made, the guilt he had carried. He thought about how much he had lost when he left Konoha the first time, about how much he had taken for granted. But now, here he was, lying beside her. She had given him something he never thought he'd have again—something so simple, so pure, that it felt like a new beginning.
How he wished he could turn back time—stop himself from making those mistakes. He wished he had never left, never hurt the people he loved. But time couldn't be turned back. The only thing he could do now was move forward. And move forward, he would.
Sasuke reached out, his hand easily finding the one Sakura had placed in front of her face. He didn't hesitate to take her hand, feeling the warmth of her skin, the tenderness in the way she held it. He had promised himself—no more running from what mattered. No more being afraid of the love he deserved. And that promise was one he intended to keep.
Without thinking, he shifted slightly, leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. Then, he kissed her cheek, the light touch sending an unexpected warmth through both of them.
Sakura's cheeks flushed with a gentle pink, and Sasuke felt his own heart race a little faster. The moment felt almost too intimate, too perfect. They were both a little flustered, and Sasuke couldn't help but smile slightly at the reaction.
"Good night, Sakura," he murmured quietly, his voice low and soft.
"Good night, Sasuke-kun," she replied, her voice just as gentle, and there was an unspoken bond between them, something that felt both familiar and new all at once.
Sasuke settled back onto his side of the bed, his body finally relaxing as he let out a small sigh. He closed his eyes, the warmth of Sakura's presence next to him bringing him comfort. The quiet of the room enveloped them, and before long, he could hear her breathing slowing as she drifted off to sleep.
Just as Sasuke thought he'd finally find his own peace and slip into a deep sleep, something warm and... wet? His eyes snapped open, and his body tensed as he felt something spreading across his feets.
He furrowed his brow, his thoughts immediately racing. 'What the hell...?'
"What... is this?" he muttered to himself, more confused than alarmed.
Sakura stirred, barely opening her eyes, her voice drowsy and confused. "Hmm? What's wrong?"
"Mochi... did you pee on me!?"
Sakura's eyes flew open at the sudden exclamation, and the realization hit her like a ton of bricks. And then, without warning, she burst out laughing—loud, uncontrollable laughter that echoed around the room.
