That night, Oliver made it to the hospital and walked into the room where Moira was being checked by a doctor. "Hey" he said when he reached his mother's bed. "Are you OK" Oliver asked his mother.
"I'm fine" Moira answered. Oliver looked at her seriously. "I'm fine" Moira said nodding her head. She looked over to Thea who was standing in the doorway. "Did you reach Walter" she asked her daughter.
"No I'm sorry" Thea said.
"As I was telling your mother and sister the cat scans showed a grade two concussion. She can go home as long as someone stays with her just to make sure there are no aftereffects" the doctor said to Oliver.
"Thank you" Oliver said. The doctor left the room. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you, I thought you were fine" Oliver said.
"What did you think you were doing anyway" Moira asked.
"I wanted to get the license plate of the guy who took a shot at you" Oliver said. Thea just stood there listening to her brothers sorry excuse for why he left their mother alone.
"Well that was foolish" Moira said.
"Yea" Oliver said nodding. Oliver hugged his mother. Oliver left the room and Thea followed after him.
"So did you get the license plate" Thea asked.
"No, he got away" Oliver said.
"Maybe you should spend a little less time trying to be a hero. You're obviously not very good at it" Thea said.
Oliver smiled at her. "That's cute" he said.
"I wasn't trying to be. You left mom in the street alone and hurt. In the street" Thea said letting out a sarcastic laugh. "To get a license plate" she said.
Oliver walked toward his sister. "You don't believe me" he said.
"I love you. Mom loves you. Felicity loves you but it's getting hard when you won't be truthful with us" Thea said. she walked back into the room.
Oliver started to walk away but stopped when he saw Quentin and his partner approaching. "Detectives. Do you have any leads on the shooter" Oliver asked.
"Not yet. Did you get a good look at him" Quentin's partner asked.
"No. He was wearing a helmet" Oliver said.
"Don't worry we'll find him" Quentin's partner said.
"My head of security is on his way. I want to make sure there are men outside my mother's door. She needs to be protected" Oliver said.
"Well you know your families at the tippy-top of my list of priorities. The guy she was with was connected. Mobbed-up-to-the-eyeballs connected. She wasn't the target" Quentin said. Oliver didn't say anything and just walked away. "You're welcome" Quentin said. Him and his partner walked to Moira's room. They were going to question Moira on what she knew.
At Tommy and Laurel's apartment, Tommy walked in with a bag of food with Rebecca right behind him. Tommy closed the door. "Foods here" Tommy said walking over to his wife who was sitting at the table working. Rebecca ran up to the table and sat down.
"Sweetheart after dinner, I'm going to give you a bath then me and daddy will tuck you into bed" Laurel said to her daughter.
Rebecca nodded. "OK mommy" she said. Tommy got her food set up for her. He kissed her forehead. Tommy walked over to his wife and gave her a quick kiss.
"What did you get" Laurel asked.
Tommy held up the bag. "Spicy tuna on crispy rice from Toro" he said.
"Oh" Laurel said excitedly taking the bag from him. "You know how much I love that" she said opening the bag.
Tommy nodded. "I definitely do" he said sitting down next to her.
"So I talked to Felicity about me being pregnant and she seemed fine with it" Laurel said taking out her food.
Tommy took the bag and took out his food. "That's good. We should go out to celebrate" Tommy said.
"Celebrate what" Laurel asked.
"Our new addition that's going to be coming" Tommy said putting a hand on Laurel's stomach.
Laurel let out a little laugh. "Tommy, I'm really not feeling up to it tonight" she said.
Tommy shook his head. "I didn't mean tonight. I meant soon like maybe tomorrow night" he said.
Laurel kissed him and nodded. "OK that sounds good" she said.
Just then his phone buzzed. He took it out of his pocket and looked at it. It was a text from Diggle.
Could use some backup. Oliver might start spiraling.
Tommy stood up. "I have to go. I just got a text. I'm needed back in the office" Tommy said.
"Is everything OK" Laurel asked.
Tommy gave her a quick kiss and smiled at her. "Everything's fine. I think I might have forgot to shut down one of the computers. Felicity will kill me if…" he said.
Laurel nodded. "It's OK. I'll take care of Becca" she said.
"Thanks" Tommy said. He walked over and kissed his daughter on the forehead. "I'll be back. Listen to your mother" he said.
"OK daddy" she said. Tommy left the apartment and headed to the lair.
When Tommy got there Diggle explained what happened. Tommy and Diggle walked into the lair to see Oliver taking his frustrations out on a training dummy. "Oliver your mom was nearly killed. I think you can take a day off from training" Diggle said. Oliver stopped hitting the dummy.
"Hey Diggle told me what happened. I'm sorry" Tommy said.
Oliver nodded at him. "My mother wasn't the target" Oliver said walking over to a computer. He pointed at the screen. "This man was. Paul Copani. He was trying to close a deal with her when they were shot at" Oliver said sitting down in the chair. "Copani works for Bertinelli construction and Frank Bertinelli" he said.
"Frank Bertinelli? Where have I heard that name before" Tommy asked.
"He's a mob boss" Diggle said.
"I did some digging. Copani isn't the first member of Bertinelli's crew whose been hit" Oliver said.
"You did some digging" Diggle said.
Oliver sighed. "Bertinelli has a lot of enemies. The best way to figure out whose trying to target his organization is to get inside of it" he said.
"So let me get this right Oliver. Your mother's shot at nearly killed and the way you process this emotionally is by going undercover with the mob" Diggle said.
"I'm not trying to process it emotionally" Oliver said.
Diggle sat on the edge of the desk. "Yea well maybe that's your problem man. Have you ever thought about just being there for your family" Diggle asked.
"I tried that today with Thea. She told me I wasn't being honest with her and she's right. I can't very well explain to her that I left our mother alone and bleeding on the pavement because I am fast enough to almost run down the attacker but what I can do is protect my family and Diggle when I find out who this man is he's a dead man" Oliver said.
"That's it. I know where I've heard that name before" Tommy said. Oliver and Diggle looked over at Tommy. Tommy looked at Oliver seriously. "You might want t call Felicity" he said. Oliver and Diggle just looked at each other confused.
Felicity was sitting on her couch in her apartment with Sara. They were having a glass of wine and just talking. Just then her phone rang. She saw it was Oliver calling. Just then there was a knock on the door. She got up to answer it. "Oliver I was just about to call…" Felicity said stopping herself when she opened the door. A woman with long brown hair was standing on the other end. "Helena what are you doing…" Felicity started to ask.
"We need to talk" Helena said walking int the apartment.
Sara stood up. "Who are you" she asked Helena.
Felicity closed the door and put the phone to her ear. "I'm going to have to call you back" she said hanging up.
