"Explain now?"

"Oh my, right when I get home, no kiss?" Makima took her jacket off, and she leaned down to give Tiramisu and Custard their headpats. Naruto was waiting for her, right at the door, and he clearly wasn't amused. Still, she knew she was innocent, and that she had nothing to fear from his anger directed at her. She just gave her dogs some love, before she stood up and undid the tie around her neck, before placing it on the coat rack.

"Makima... explain now."

"Ooooh, very angry." Makima noted.

"Now."

"I did not plan the attack, but I had no plans to stop it either. Any Devil Hunter who managed to allow civilians to get the drop on them isn't worth keeping, and if the squad gets smaller, it gives me more freedom." Makima had no reason to lie, actually, she had more of a reason to be honest with Naruto. Naruto came from a world where children were sent to exams to die, just to get a promotion to a higher rank. In his world, it wasn't often wrong for children to die needless deaths for the simple fact that they got in over their heads.

Naruto crossed his arms, and looked at her with narrowed eyes.

"... You have no part in supplying them with weapons, or plotting this either... you didn't slip the idea into any heads, or manipulate things?" Naruto watched her reaction with his eyes critical of her every single body movement. The way her smile went to a confused look as she thought about any past actions that she might have taken.

Makima then smiled again.

"I had no part in supplying them weapons. Despite what you think of me as a devil, and how I don't care much for individual humans, I am not actively plotting anything unjust against them at this time." Makima spoke as she went to sit down on the couch. She turned her TV on, and the news was playing. She saw the destruction that Naruto caused to the city, but thankfully most of the damage would be easy to repair. The damage to the streets was concerning, but not so much so that it couldn't be fixed.

No deaths, just broken windows, cracked buildings, and damaged streets.

Well, there was 1 death, the elderly woman who had tried to kill Kobeni, but considering her part to play, it was a death that wasn't going to be looked on badly.

Naruto stood in front of the TV.

"You have a duty to your coworkers to warn them when their lives are in danger." Naruto stated to her, looking down at her with a stern gaze. She wasn't amused as she looked up at him, but after considering his words, she smiled.

"I have no such duty. It is the duty of a Devil Hunter to be on guard for any attacks. It is in their job description to always be ready to get attacked. That is hypocritical of you to say." Makima smiled again as she spoke.

Naruto flinched.

"How?"

"I didn't warn them, but you only saved a few of them. You saved the ones who you were friends with, and left the others to die. If I am to blame for any deaths, you are equally to blame for leaving them to die." Makima raised a point against him. She watched him flinch again, and she knew she had him in that moment of this argument. Naruto couldn't take the moral high ground on this issue, since people had still died under his watch.

"I got distracted by the ones I knew getting attacked, and I didn't notice the others." Naruto wasn't defending himself.

He wasn't making an excuse either.

"Exactly, we all act in the moment. I have sent countless Devil Hunters to their deaths, but none of them died out of any malice. They just weren't skilled enough to handle the situations they were in. I can not see the future anymore than you can." Makima defended herself and all her past actions with that statement.

Naruto gripped his fist for a moment, but relaxed it.

"You... have a point there I guess." Naruto didn't want to say it, but he couldn't find any fault in Makima's words. Being a Shinobi was dangerous work, and a Hokage would send many people to their deaths on missions, where success meant they survived and failing meant they didn't. As the leader, you assigned them to the mission with the hopes that they survived, but there was always that chance that they weren't up to the task. "You should have warned them though. As their leader, they deserved to know what you know." Naruto stated to her.

Makima smiled.

"Ah, true, I guess I could have warned them... but I wasn't obligated to. When a Devil Hunter is clocked in, and on the job, they are expected to be on guard at all times. It isn't my job to coddle them, and remind them to not drop their guards." Makima saw Naruto click his teeth at her, and she frowned, but she saw that he was satisfied with her answer. She raised good points that he could relate to, so even if he was upset with her, this wasn't enough to change their current relationship or ruin it.

This was a difference of opinion.

Shinobi and Devil Hunter were very similar jobs when you got down to it, and both of the jobs required you to be on guard whenever you were on duty, and even when you weren't on duty. Those who were skilled survived longer than those who were not. That was part of why Naruto had been able to react so well, and at the last moment, when he sensed something was wrong. Even when he was relaxing, some part of Naruto was always on guard, at least a little bit.

"... Fine, but next time warn them."

"I refuse, simply because they shouldn't have to be warned. This is a dangerous profession, and they should be on guard without me needing to tell them." Makima wouldn't allow Naruto to dictate this conversation so easily, or tell her how to do her job. She was smiling again though, because she could see Naruto was only mildly frustrated at this point.

He was angry at the start, but now he was only frustrated. That was a vast improvement to his mood.

"Fine."

"Still, they fact they survived and were caught off guard is a cause for concern. I will be sending Aki to get a new Devil Contract, and assigning a private tutor to help Denji and Power get better. I was able to petition for several Special Divisions to be combined into one, so Himeno will be meeting with the different Fiends and Devils from the other divisions."

"... and Kobeni?" Naruto asked.

"You'll be working with her for now. She's shown remarkable improvement when she works with you." Makima didn't like it, but she couldn't deny that when Kobeni was working with Naruto, she was much more confident, and a confident Kobeni was not to be trifled with so casually. The girl was a rare talent in the business, who was only held back by her fear and lack of confidence. With both of those taken care of, she would go far in the business. "Before that though, you will be going with Himeno to meet up with the various devils and fiends who shall join Division 4."

"More devils and fiends?"

"Yes, we do have quite a few of them who work for Public Safety after all. It would be a shame not to put them to use." Makima stated with a wider smile at him. "The Violence Fiend, the Spider Devil, the Angel Devil, and the Shark Fiend will make for excellent members to the squad."

"Spider..." Naruto pictured a big spider.

"She's a humanoid devil with a name. While she doesn't particularly like humans, she works fine with them." Makima could see he was picturing a giant spider, and had to break that image. The spider devil was a humanoid shaped devil, or rather she preferred to be in a human form. "She's a very loyal follower of mine."

"That worries me."

"Oh?"

"The reason I can trust you, is because I trust in the fact that you can't be trusted. You know I don't trust you, which is why you always tell me the truth, because you know if you lie, then I will never trust you again. You can't be trusted, which is why I trust you." Naruto just explained the weirdest logic.

It made no sense.

To anyone but Makima.

Naruto didn't trust her, which was why she went out of her way to never lie to him, because if he didn't trust her, she might as well be honest with him. There was no use lying to a person who she couldn't lie to. She could get away with half-truths, but outright lying to Naruto was off the table. His logic was sound, and there was an unspoken agreement between them over it before now. As long as she never lied to him, he would trust her, which was why she made sure to never lie to him.

She was untrustworthy, and she knew Naruto could sniff out her lies.

So, when she was talking to Naruto, she didn't lie.

Thus, only when she was speaking to Naruto did her untrustworthy nature play against her, and turn her into somebody that could be trusted... to tell the truth.

"You're plotting something."

"I'm always plotting."

"What is next?"

"The Soviet Union is plotting to steal Denji's heart, and they will be sending one of their little soldier to seduce him. She's also tasked with seducing you. She is allies with the Typhoon Devil. That is all I will know. If she succeeds or fails doesn't matter, once she arrives in Japan, I won't allow her to leave." Makima stated her plans.

"... how does she fit into your plans?"

"She is a Hyrbid of Human and Bomb Devil, she will be a useful pawn in the future. I expect her to fail in her mission, but I am sure that capturing a spy is well within what your people do as well." Makima looked at Naruto.

He would judge her for capturing an enemy?

"Fine, I won't argue against her, but tell me who she is so I can be on guard for her."

"I don't think I will. There is no personal benefit for me to do so."

"I will go on a date with you."

"Hmmmm... well... purple hair, green eyes, and a grenade pin in her neck. That will be enough for her to figure her out when you see her." Makima shared the information he could use. There was no point in telling her name, since she might use an alias, and those traits were extremely uncommon in Japan. "Her trigger to transform is the pin in her neck." Makima stated as she mimicked pulling a pin from a grenade.

Naruto nodded.

"Anything else?" Naruto asked.

"Nothing else would be useful to you. You have enough to identify her. Thus, I do believe I have fulfilled my end of the contract, and now you must go on a date with me. This Thursday, we'll be going on a movie bender." Makima smiled at her small victory.

"Movies huh... You know, I think..." Naruto bit his thumb and drew his blood, before he went through the signs, and he placed his hand on the coffee table.

POOF*

"Can you go to Konoha, and see if Kakashi can get a VHS of that movie I was a part of... the one with Koyuki?" Naruto asked with a grin. Makima sat up a whole lot straighter than she did before when she heard Naruto say that, she she looked at him summoning a toad, that saluted Naruto and vanished in another puff of smoke.

"You... were in a movie?"

"It happened while I was on a mission to protect a princess, I ended up getting included in a movie. Since you want to do a movie day, might as well end the movie day at home, and watch a movie I was apart of."

"You were in a movie?" Makima, for the first time Naruto had ever seen, had a look of just genuine excitement with no trace of anything devilish. She just wanted to watch the movie that he was a part of, and that was it. She didn't know that Naruto had been in a movie.

"Well, it is less a movie, and more just a real story that got captured on film. All the deaths in the movie were 100% real, and so were the emotions." Naruto scratched his cheek. Makima stood up, approached him, and grabbed both of his cheeks.

"Even better, that means it will be engaging. You should have mentioned this before." Makima would have demanded he show her this movie after meeting him if he had told her about this before.

She loved movies.
