Author's Note: Do I really need to explain how effed up the whole concept of Alpha Voice is? Because it's really effed up. Also, this was supposed to be a cute little orchard fic. It has exactly none of those things. I definitely need something with an orchard setting by the end of the month.

Healer

Zillah Abbott arrived promptly three minutes after Andromeda had sent off a message through their emergency system. She had on a marigold yellow blouse and black slacks. The tichel covering her hair was the same color as her blouse and edged with black stitching. On her feet was a pair of slippers shaped like swollen feet. Andromeda tried not to feel guilty that she had clearly interrupted what must have been a relaxed evening at home. After all, emergencies was what their system was for.

"Is it Harry?" Zillah asked as she set her emerald green healer case on the table. She popped the case open start sorting out things. Andromeda startled at the blunt question. Zillah's eyes flashed with a knowing fire. "Hannah mentioned that Harry was looking more peaky than normal when she saw him last week. I've been expecting a call from you. So what's wrong?"

"Harry has an unexpected heat," Andromeda answered after swallowing hard enough to hear it. "It's a presentation heat."

"He's nearly eighteen," Zillah said with a slight frown. "Normal presentation is around age fifteen. The war shouldn't have delayed a presentation."

"I suspect severe deprivation," Andromeda stated grimly. "He's severely underweight and has all but admitted to being symptomatic for so long he can't remember when it started. He panicked at the thought of being separated from Teddy." She took a deep breath before listing the most damning fact. "His previous guardians made him destroy his nests as a punishment."

"Sh'ma Yisra'eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad," Zillah breathed, looking suddenly pale. She swallowed hard. Andromeda could see the mentality of a healer fall over her to keep her from being sick. "Severe DPS would certainly delay presentation. I'm honestly surprised he's having a full heat at all."

"That would be my fault," Andromeda admitted with a guilty wince. "I used the Voice on him."

"You did what?" The words came out in a hiss despite the lack of syllables that would have made that possible. Her blue eyes flashed with a fiery rage before she visibly reined it back in. "I cannot deal with you right now. I will say something ill-advised." She turned back towards her emerald bag of medical supplies. "Fortunately, I do keep a strong heat interrupter in my kit. Where is he nesting?"

"Um."

Zillah's head snapped back up. Her eyes flashed again, blue flames in her winsome face. Not for the first time, Andromeda was forcefully reminded that the Hufflepuff mascot was a badger sow for a reason. Of course, Zillah's Sorting was compounded by her chosen mastery. Healers were at their fiercest defending patients, just like omegas with pups. It certainly didn't help any that the protective fury was justified, even against Andromeda herself.

"He never told you?" Zillah asked, her disbelief audible. "Is he even still in Stone End?"

"He is," Andromeda hurried to assure the healer. "I confirmed that with one of his elves."

The tension instantly flowed out of Zillah's small frame. She had to catch herself on the table's edge from how quickly it left her. She took a slow, shaky breath as she pressed her left hand to the center of her chest.

"Call this elf," she commanded once she had collected herself and sat in one of the chairs as imperiously as any noble lady. Andromeda didn't hesitate to call Winky directly. The little elf was wringing her hands when she appeared.

"Esquire Black be calling Winky?" she asked. Her nut-brown eyes went wide as she spotted the new person in the kitchen. She clasped her hands over her very pregnant belly as she stared at Zillah. "Is you gonna make my Harry not hot?"

"That is my plan, Winky," Zillah assured the elf, already better at soothing Winky's frazzled nerves than Andromeda. "I hear that Harry is not well enough for a heat. Is that your assessment, too?" Winky nodded like one of the bobble-heads that Ted had loved to collect. Zillah pulled out a tiny vial of potion that was just as green as her medical bag. "Do you think you could get him to take this potion?" Again, the elf nodded. "It might make him dizzy if he's awake. So you will need to make sure that he is either laying down or reclining in a way that he won't fall."

"Winky can do all that," the elf said reaching for the vial. "Harry will not fall."

With the potion in hand, Winky disappeared, presumably back upstairs to her charge. Zillah turned her gaze towards Andromeda once more.

"You will make me tea while we wait," the healer ordered. Her smile was as toothy as a badger's snarl. "And then you will explain to me why exactly you thought using the Alpha Voice without explicit consent was a good idea in the first place."

Andromeda swallowed hard.

It was going to be a very awkward explanation.
