"Just a little taste, to get me through the day. Your blood's so sweet, my knees go weak. Drink a little more and we'll end up on the floor, our hair a mess, we'll have the neighbors knocking on the door." Sliding one of her knives across the whetstone Izuku had given her, Himiko paused to examine the blade, softly pressing a finger against it to test its sharpness. She could feel the pressure of the blade on her skin, nearly cutting it, though Himiko had enough control to keep that from happening.
She was alone in the warehouse, up for sale by the bank just like all the other ones nearby. It had been all too easy for her to sneak in and snag the keys from the dock's security office. Someone might come to investigate eventually when they realized the keys were missing after a few days, but by then Himiko figured Izu-chan should have accomplished his goals and they'd be gone.
The sound of the warehouse doors sliding open interrupted her thoughts. Quickly stowing her whetstone and blade, Himiko hid herself, watching from behind a pile of rotting pallets as a moving van pulled inside. As the doors to the warehouse began sliding down, the driver killed the engine and stepped out of the truck, taking a cursory look around the seemingly empty building with their cold jade eyes as they got down.
Seeing nothing amiss, Izuku made his way to the back of the moving van; a quick use of Overhaul to remodel the padlock so it popped open and Izuku slid the door up, exposing the three Nomu hidden within. His supposed rival might have a warper to support him, but as it was, Izuku and his associates needed to find other means to travel.
"Everybody out," Izuku ordered, "we're here." The Nomu obediently shuffled forward, disembarking from the moving van before returning to standing idly, awaiting further orders.
"Izu-kun!" The sudden shout had the greenette reaching for the floor, Overhaul flowing through his hand. But before he could use his Quirk, the blonde slammed into his back, sending the pair tumbling to the floor. Coming to a stop, his back to the floor and his pet vampire splayed out on his chest, her weight pinning him down Izuku could only watch as a purring Himiko rubbed her head against him contently.
A fond smile made its way to his lips as he raised a hand to rub her head affectionately. "Himiko, it's only been a few days."
"That's too long," the blonde groaned, "I need my moments with Izu-chan."
"Himiko." A huff. Izuku sighed, "Himiko," he repeated, his voice low and authoritative.
The blonde shivered, "Fine," she pulled away, her face red, "It's unfair to act so cool, Izu-chan," she murmured as a smile slowly crept across her face, "You don't know what it does to me."
"Focus, Himiko. What did the police station have on the Villain Factory?" Izuku questioned sitting up.
"Not a lot," Himiko pouted. "Due to a lack of activity, the investigation's stalled. It's still technically open, but it's been months since anything new was added and most of the old reports are pretty useless. A raid was conducted on the Onomura Pharmaceuticals Corporation Kanto R&D Center here in the city based on suspicion of possessing unlawful substances and unlicensed medical practices."
"A few arrests, two next-level villains that were being experimented on with a panda and elephant Quirk respectively. They were released after their innocence was confirmed and later moved away. The other arrests were mostly researchers and doctors working to make drugs stronger before they hit the streets. They're all still in jail, but are next to useless when it comes to what you're looking for."
"Part of the reason for the raid was because the police hoped to seize evidence on the Villain Factory, but during the raid the lab was destroyed and the building was heavily damaged by Bombers. You know, those things on the news a few years back that attacked Captain Celebrity's going away party at the Sky Egg? They came from the lab and unfortunately did a good job destroying any evidence before the police could find it, which puts them and us back at square one. The Villain Factory's leadership is unknown, and while it is known that they distributed drugs, they actually had very few distributors. One's in jail, a Mario Kugutsu, while another's had their information redacted and file sealed. Only thing on it not hidden behind a layer of bureaucratic tape and blacked out lines was a note that literally just said 'Bees'"
"Bees?"
"Bees," Himiko nodded her head in confirmation. "I could probably get the file eventually, but not in the time I had," Himiko concluded with an annoyed sigh.
"That's okay, you did your best." Izuku ran a hand through his hair. "Anyone else?"
"Yep," Himiko perked up, leaping to her feet as she smiled widely. "Yanderi Hina." She called out as she walked behind some boxes, "A sophomore that attended Naruhata Women's College, she was arrested for distributing Trigger at mixers her friend hosted. Those drugs were part of the reason the police raided Onomura, and what's more, due to good behavior and a Hero speaking in her defense, Hina was released from prison earlier this year."
"She's the best lead we got, huh?" Izuku said to himself as he began to plan.
'We'll have to find her. Himiko will have to get her file from the station so we can find out her Quirk and address. We can't just go up and question her either since she might be under surveillance either by police or Factory agents. We could kidnap her but we'll need to plan on how to do it, and depending on if she has a job or friends, the time between the actual kidnapping and when she's reported missing could vary. Even then when they start to investigate, we'll have to-'
"TADA!" Himiko's shout tore Izuku from his thoughts. He looked up just as the blonde shoved the large object she was leading to the ground in front of him. "I got you a present."
Izuku blinked, examining his 'present' as it wiggled in front of him, struggling against its bonds. "Himiko." He said, his voice empty and eyes dead, "What is this?"
"Your present. One Yanderi Hina all wrapped up and ready for you to do with as you please. I picked her up last night, figured you'd want her since she's the best… Well, really only lead we have."
Taking a deep breath to calm the numerous thoughts racing through his head, Izuku exhaled before turning back to the fidgeting Himiko. "While I appreciate your eagerness Himiko, I would ask that in the future, you at least tell me when you're going to do something like this so I can prepare myself."
"You don't like it?" Himiko asked dejectedly, her smile faltering as her eyes watered.
"No, I like your present very much," Izuku reached out to rub the blonde's hair again, with Himiko eagerly leaning into his touch. "I just care about you and want to make sure nothing happens to you. You remember the Shie Hassaikai raid? I don't want that to ever happen again."
"I'll be careful."
"That's all I ask. Now then, we've been very rude not introducing ourselves, haven't we? We should correct that. Free her." A flash of a knife and Hina's bonds and gag fell away leaving the girl free to move. Hesitantly she climbed to her feet, and even though her eyes were hidden behind her bob cut hairstyle, the turning of her head made it clear she was looking around. "I wouldn't run if I were you." Izuku advised. "You might be fast, but I doubt you're faster than either Himiko here or the Nomu." He gestured to the three creatures still standing idly nearby. Hina's head tracked the motion and the woman visibly gulped when she caught sight of the creatures' exposed brains.
"W-what do you want?" She stuttered. "Those Nomu, they're the things that attacked the Sports Festival. Are you with the League of Villains?"
"No. No, no, no." Izuku vehemently denied, shaking his head. "The League of Villains is a group of street thugs led by a man child throwing a tantrum for the world to see. Us, we're better than that. We're people that have goals and desires that can't necessarily be accomplished through proper, legal channels. And that's why we're here: because you have information we need."
"I don't know anything, I swear." Hina babbled, tears running down her face. "I've worked at a convenience store ever since I was released. I'm a good law-abiding citizen now."
"I believe you, but I'm not interested in the here and now. I'm interested in who you worked for before you were arrested. Now, tell me about the Villain Factory."
"I'll tell you what I told the police: that name means nothing to me." Hina's fear was turning into anger. "Did I spike some drinks? Yeah, but only because those perverted animals were trying to get close to Rin." Hina blushed as her mouth twisted into a sick smile. "Oh Rin, you really are the best. Coming to visit me in prison," a lovesick sigh escaped the woman, "Everything I did, I did for you. To protect you. To keep you safe. Don't worry, even if you never made any other friends, I'll be there for you. It might be taking a while, but I'll find you eventually, and then we'll be together just like we're meant to."
"Focus," Izuku ordered, having no interest in Hina's mad love, "Where did you get your drugs?"
"Some guy with an acceleration Quirk and a scar across his face. He showed up one night when I was heading home after one of Rin's mixers. He offered me a way to keep her safe from anyone interested in her. He gave me a phone to contact him and whenever I ran out of drugs I'd shoot him a text. He'd give me a location and we'd meet to resupply. But once I was arrested, I lost the phone and I've never seen or heard from him since I got out. I promise."
"I believe you," Izuku reassured the woman, smiling kindly.
"Then, I'm free to go?" Hina asked hesitantly.
"Of course," Izuku kept smiling, not moving even as Hina slowly stood up. Initially hesitant, she slowly but surely made her way towards the warehouse exit, picking up speed as she went while alternating her gaze between the Nomu, Izuku, and Himiko. By the time Hina threw the door open and made it outside, she was in a full on sprint. Only when the door slammed shut behind her did Izuku speak, "Himiko, she's all yours."
"Hmm?" The blonde vampire hummed questioningly. "She didn't lie to you. Any particular reason you're giving her to me?"
"None, other than the fact that something about that woman makes me dislike her immensely. Go play with her. She's clearly obsessed with this Rin girl. Have a girls night out, talk about your love lives. Just make sure she's dealt with." Izuku ordered, standing up and making his way to the same door Hina just left through.
"Okay, what'll you be doing?"
"Going for a walk. Our only lead turned out to be useless, putting us right back at square one. We'll have to search for some new ones tomorrow, but right now I just need to walk off my frustration."
"Cool, stay safe. If you're not back by tomorrow morning, I'll go looking for you."
"Sounds like a plan. Have fun with your new toy."
Opening the door, Izuku walked out into the evening, taking a moment to appreciate the setting sun before he slowly made his way towards downtown Naruhata, all while Himiko's delighted laughter rang out behind him.
"Oi buddy! Aren't you a little young to be out so late walking around all by your lonesome?"
Stopping in the mouth of the alley, silhouetted by the neon lights on the street ahead of him, Izuku turned to look over his shoulder, his face blank, "Yes, yes I am."
"Well don't you know there's big bad villains out there that can hurt you?" The three young adults approaching him couldn't have been any older than their early twenties. Izuku stood still as they approached, their leader throwing an arm around Izuku's neck once he was close enough, an act made easier by his Quirk, which seemingly made his arms abnormally long and double jointed. "We're worried about you. Wouldn't want you to get hurt or anything now would we?"
"No, of course not." One of his companions answered for the greenette before breaking down howling with laughter, something Izuku wondered might be attributed to his hyena mutation.
"Hurry up, Nagee." The final one of the three ordered as she scrolled through her phone bored. She looked up to shoot Izuku a quick glance before looking back down, "Kid probably doesn't even have shit."
"Shut up, Cuel." Nagee ordered, the twos back and forth seemed instinctive. Childhood friends? Lovers? Personal history? In the end it was unimportant. "Anyways buddy," Nagee pulled Izuku to his chest and the greenette's nose wrinkled at the strong smell of alcohol the man was emitting, "Why don't you give us what you have on you, and we'll make sure you get home safely? Call it a protection fee."
"Protection fee! HA!" Hyena laughed.
"Thank you for your concern, but I'm quite safe." Izuku turned to leave, but Nagee's hand grabbed his shoulder tightly.
"I wasn't asking, brat. It's called protection money. You pay it, you're protected from me beating your ass. You don't pay, I beat you and take the money anyways. Capiche?"
"Oh, I understand just fine, I don't think you understand that there's a reason I feel completely safe walking alone by myself at night. A reason I don't fear wannabe tough guys like you." Izuku grabbed Nagee's wrist, he could feel Overhaul ready to be used but held off. He didn't need it to deal with some drunk kids.
"Well said!"
The sudden shout caused all four to look up. Standing on a fire escape shrouded in shadows was a figure looking down on them. As they watched the man jumped over the railing of the fire escape falling dramatically to land…in the trash bags below him. The four looking on mutually deadpanned as the man lay still.
"Is…he alive?" Hyena asked hesitantly.
"I don't know," Nagee replied, "Go take a look."
"Why me?"
"Because you volunteered," Cuel answered. "Now do it."
Hyena whimpered but obeyed, slowly creeping towards the wannabe hero's unmoving body. Once he was close enough, he stuck out a foot and tapped the man's leg. No response. "He's not moving. I think he's dea-" A hand grabbed Hyena's leg, making the canine boy leap back with a shouted "Fuck!"
"I'm still alive." Using a crutch as leverage, the man pulled himself to his feet, letting out a groan as he stood up, though that might be the pressure he was applying to his left leg, which was wrapped in a supportive brace. The neon lights illuminating the alley allowed the four to get a decent look of the man; over his tight fitting black shirt and jeans he wore a long dark green trench coat, which combined with his combat boots and gloved hands holding a pair of brass knuckles, made it clear he was ready for a fight. The top of his face was hidden by a black mask, but what was visible underneath was scarred.
"You know, trash bags make for a good landing pad in a pinch. Good enough to reduce the risk of broken bones or a concussion at the very least." The man cracked his neck against his fist, "Now, what do we have here? A punk, a mutt, and a bimbo?" He pointed at each of the three as he labeled them, and they responded to the labels appropriately.
"Huh?"
"What did you call me?"
"Grrr." It was Hyena who acted first, the closest to the strange man he leapt towards him, a snarling missile. Or at least he was, until a brass knuckle covered fist caved in his face, sending his unconscious body ragdolling across the dirty ground. For a moment all Nagee, Cuel, and Izuku could do was blink, their shock at how easily the man defeated the canine mutant clear on their face.
"Surprised a crippled old geezer like myself can still throw down?" The man smirked in challenge as Nagee stepped forward to meet him. His anger was clear yet he was clearly wary, inching forward until he was close to take advantage of the extra reach his extended limbs provided. Swinging his right arm around in a wide punch, the masked man responded by stepping forward, lashing out with his crutch to jab Nagee's chest. Nagee recoiled, but the masked man wasn't finished yet. Using the shoulder rest of his crutch, he snagged Nagee's shoulder and pulled him closer so he could smash a fist into his face too. Nagee's body went limp and slumped to the ground; the masked man stepped aside to let it fall before he began to hobble forward.
"Stop!" Cuel ordered, her phone held tight in a shaking hand, "Or I'll call for heroes." Izuku had to give the woman credit, she was alone, her companions unconscious, yet she was still either brave or stupid enough to threaten the one who'd defeated them.
"Heroes?" The man chuckled, "Heroes are busy dealing with real villains, they don't have time to deal with wannabe tough guys like you three brats. No, your kind are best left to those like me."
"Those like you?"
"Yeah, good samaritans who want to lend a helping hand. Heroes are reactionary: only acting after something's happened. Me? I'm more proactive, preferring to get involved before the heroes need to. After all, if I beat it into your stupid little heads to be good model citizens before you become an issue for heroes to deal with, then aren't I a hero too for preventing you from going down a dark path?"
"You're a villain!"
"Wrong! I'm Knuckleduster, and if I see you or your friends acting out of line, I'll find out and you'll all be getting some remedial lessons, understand?" Cruel's head bobbed rapidly as she nodded. "Good, then get out of my sight."
Izuku watched unblinking as the girl ran past him, eyeing her for a moment before turning his attention back to the man who'd 'saved' him. "Thank you for your assistance, but I didn't need your help."
"Huh? You got something against a cripple helping you?"
"Not at all, in fact my Sensei too was quite weakened when I met him, yet he remains one of the strongest men I know. I am not criticizing you or your actions, all I'm saying is that they were unwarranted."
"Unwarranted, huh? From where I was standing, it sure didn't look like you had things handled."
"The situation was under control." Izuku answered, his tone making it clear that the statement was a fact. "They might have had the numbers, but I was stronger than them. I'm not the weak little boy I used to be."
"Oh really?" Knuckleduster grinned, leaning on his crutch. "Well, guess what? I don't give a shit if you were stronger or weaker than those three. The situation's been handled. It's like I told the girl: I'm just here to help when heroes can't." Turning around, Knuckleduster tossed a half hearted wave over his shoulder before he began to retreat back down the alley. For a moment, Izuku looked after him though he soon turned away, mentally debating whether to continue his walk or head back to the warehouse. His foot raised, Izuku was just preparing to take his first step when screams rang out on the street in front of him, soon followed by a bestial roar. More screams followed, and soon numerous late night shoppers were running past the mouth of the alley where Izuku stood.
An unexpected shove sent Izuku stumbling though he quickly recovered, looking up just in time to see Knuckleduster rush out of the alley and towards the commotion. At first, Izuku considered leaving, he had no reason to get involved, but the thought was soon discarded. He was curious and though he was no longer the innocent hero fanboy he once was, he still enjoyed seeing the clash of quirks and ideals in person rather than through a screen.
Pushing his way through the crowd both those fleeing and those who'd stayed to watch, Izuku soon found himself witnessing Knuckleduster leap into action once again. Even with his old injuries hindering him and his reliance on a crutch for mobility, the man was surprisingly holding his own, though that might have been due to the rhino-man he was facing. Seemingly blind with rage, the rhino-man would mindlessly charge intending to skewer Knuckleduster on his horn, only for his target to dodge at the last second, raining blows on the rhino's unprotected flank. The crowd looking on cheered, ignoring Knuckleduster's orders to get back, although more than a few seemed worried about the man's fighting ability with his old injuries.
"Is that man a Pro Hero?"
"Shouldn't some other Heroes help him?"
"They've been called and are apparently on their way."
The roar of the rhino villain silenced the crowd, and as they watched the villain's latest charge took him past Knuckleduster and straight into the shop behind him, the front of it imploding inwards as he charged through it sending numerous cracks racing up the building. The sudden destruction seemed to shake the crowd awake with several onlookers screaming while others ran away. One voice though seemed to rise above the rest, a single finger pointed skywards, "Look, it's Buster Union!"
Indeed, riding atop their trademark four-rotor drones was one of the four man squads belonging to one of Tokyo's most recognizable Hero agencies. Buster Union was well known for being combat oriented, specializing in using overwhelming firepower to quickly bring down villains under a continuous onslaught of attacks. Split up into four man teams led by a captain, it was commonly agreed that a single squad was often more than enough to handle a single villain. A fact proven as the rhino villain emerged from the rubble seemingly no worse for wear and snorting with rage.
"Attention, please!" A voice called out from the lead drone's speakers hovering above the crowd. "I am Mister Blaster, Blaster Squad Captain of Buster Union. All civilians, please evacuate the area as quickly and safely as you can. Villain, stand down and surrender or you will be fired upon. This is your first and final warning. As for you Knuckleduster, get out of here, we'll handle the situation from here."
"Fine by me," Knuckleduster called out, leaning on his crutch and breathing heavily. "I was getting bored anyways." The sound of his voice caught the villain's attention, who turned his focus away from the hovering flies above him to the irritation he'd been fighting just prior. Knuckleduster remained unfazed, not reacting even as the rhino bellowed and dropped to all fours, horn lowered as he began to charge.
"Light him up!" Mister Blaster ordered.
The Blasting Hero: Mister Blaster
Quirk: Blast
Mister Blaster can fire powerful blasts of energy from the palms of his hands. They're quite bright though, so he has to wear special support equipment to avoid being blinded.
Blasts, missiles, and beams of light erupted as his command, flying downwards to slam into the villain and the ground around him. When the light show faded, it revealed the unconscious rhino lying motionless on the ground, his black tongue lying limp from his open mouth.
When it became clear the villain wasn't moving, Buster Union made their descent to the ground. Mister Blaster, as the leader, headed towards the reporters and news crews that had arrived on site while his assistants flew towards the villain to secure him for transport. Izuku's attention though remained on Knuckleduster, as the man had stilled when the fireworks had ended, yet his shock was clear. He mumbled softly to himself, and if Izuku hadn't been paying attention, he might have missed the man's words, though he could still only make out a few over the sounds around him. "...black tongue….Villain Factory….."
Izuku's eyes widened at the revelation, yet he couldn't help but feel that he shouldn't have been surprised. The name Knuckleduster had sounded familiar and it was clear that the man had a long history as a vigilante, likely dating back to even before the Villain Factory was in operation. He would need to meet with Knuckleduster and find out what he knew.
With everything happening, Izuku nearly missed the flicker of motion at the edge of his vision. As the rhino villain was pulled to his feet, some bugs flew from his leg. From this distance Izuku couldn't make out many details, but they seemed to be yellow and black in color. The heroes ignored them, more focused on securing their prisoner while Knuckleduster's attention was focused elsewhere. The man had turned away and appeared lost in his thoughts. Izuku himself would have ignored them if it wasn't for their sudden appearance and numbers. Humming idly, Izuku turned and began to walk away, disappearing into the crowd. His walk had given him a lot to think about, and the greenette needed to meet with Himiko so they could figure out their next move. At the very least Izuku hoped Himiko had fun on her girl's night out.
Unnoticed by anyone, the insects Izuku had noticed flew through the city, buzzing along until they reached their target. Standing on the roof of a building looking down over Naruhata was a woman. Raising a hand tipped with sharpened nails that bore an uncanny resemblance to claws, the woman welcomed back her little drones. Crawling along her warm butterscotch colored skin, the bugs made their way up her arm to her head, disappearing under the honey blonde hair that shrouded her left eye.
When she'd inhabited Rize Kaneki she'd called herself Touka Aipatchi. In the body of Tamao Oguro, her name had been Kuin Hachisuka. Then as Kazuho Haneyama, she borne the name Bee Pop. Now in the body of her new host Suzume Bachi, she'd taken the name Candi Baal.
Her rebirth had been…strange. She'd been certain she was going to die. Her memories as Bee Pop were hazy with so much Trigger pumping through her system from the concoctions Six had shoved into her, it was more like she'd been along for the ride than in control. Kazuho's personality had been running the show, though she'd been the one to lower the pop star's inhibitions.
Six had saved her from Knuckleduster just to turn her into a tool that was discarded when her usefulness had ended. He'd shot her! Tried to kill her! She'd survived obviously, but things were hazy, and her memories disjointed. Flying through the air held tightly in someone's arms. The bright lights of a hospital, and her final memory: a pair of tweezers reaching towards her face.
Her next memory was awakening in a new body, the subconscious fluttering of the wings on her back, the weight of the abdomen above her shapely rear and antennas on her head. She'd been floating in a glass tube, stared at by a short portly man with a walrus mustache and goggles who seemed vaguely familiar, his image reflected dozens of times as she looked at him with her black compound eye. When it became clear she was awake, some tests had been run to confirm her health and then she'd been freed. Still in the tube black sludge had erupted from her throat, and next thing she knew, she'd found herself on a rooftop in Naruhata.
Her only clothing was what she wore right now: a short skirt that barely covered her butt and a top designed like a virgin-killer sweater to keep her wings free, yet held up by her bust and the spaghetti straps on her shoulders. Her skirt at least had a hidden pocket in which she'd found some vials filled with a green liquid she recognized as Ideo Trigger, along with a note that simply read, 'You are free to do as you please.'
Candi had briefly thought about discarding the drug and fleeing. Whoever had saved her clearly wanted her in Naruhata for a reason, therefore it was in her best interest to escape the area as quickly as possible. But something held her back: the memories of her first life, her "original" life. Living symbiotically as a mix of the host's personality and the parasitic bee, Candi had the memories of not just the former queens, but glimpses of the lives of her former hosts as well. She knew that Rize had been a runaway that grew up on the streets. About the arguments Tamao had with her parents. That Kazuho had been saved from drowning by Koichi and developed a crush on him in response while Suzume had been a low level gang member and prostitute who'd volunteered for human testing in order to get some extra cash. And she knew that the man who'd killed her in her first life was Iwao Oguro, the vigilante Knuckleduster and father of her former host Tamao.
"So you're still around, weakened though you may be." Candi smiled as she mentally watched the fight from her bees' point of view. Knuckleduster was clearly weaker than he had been when they'd last fought, but while he'd worsened, she was in a whole new body with Trigger to use at her discretion. It would be wise to run, to shred her past and start anew, but whether it was her personal hatred for the man who'd burned her, Tamao's own frustration influencing her, or merely a desire to have her vengeance, Candi Baal knew that she wouldn't be leaving Naruhata until there'd been a reckoning between the vigilante and the villainess.

Man what I wouldn't give to not have to worry about college. Unfortunately that's not an option so oh well, let's move on. Izuku and Himiko are in Naruhata. Queen Bee's got a new body and Knuckleduster's made his debut. I just finished chapter 32 like ten minutes ago and my original planned out plot was abruptly changed mid-write as the story flowed through my fingers and onto the keyboard. Don't you hate when that happens and you now have to go back and replot things to account for the sudden changes? *Sigh, sip of iced coffee*
