Previously: Lucifer has decided that he wants to try to be a father and stay with Chloe to help her through her pregnancy. He asked her to move in with him, Chloe was unsure but decided to do it. Recently, Ella saw Lucifer's Devil face and Michael manipulated her into nearly shooting Lucifer in the penthouse. Chloe stopped her in time.
Now, Chloe needs to tell certain people about the news of her moving in with Lucifer.
Chapter 18
Chloe's Pov
If I listed down all the shocking moments during my time on the police force, then it would be a long list. However, if I listed down the shocking moments from my personal life then I predict that it would be rather short. The biggest, unexpected bombshells I received in my life were my father's death and learning the fact that Lucifer was the actual Devil. But tonight, it was a page-turner.
Walking around the corner to find Ella standing there in the penthouse with a gun aimed at Lucifer. Out of all the people I know who are dangerous to Lucifer and who could hurt him, Ella was the last person I expected to threaten Lucifer. Thankfully, with a bit of persuasion, Ella didn't shoot Lucifer and we realised that his dickhead twin brother, Michael was the one pulling the strings.
I offered to drive Ella home as she was not in the right mind to travel on her own, while Lucifer stayed in the penthouse. It was a silent journey as we didn't talk to each other, I didn't want to force Ella to join in a conversation as it might cause an awkward scene between us or a heated argument. However, it was reasonable for Ella to have some quietness as she needed it to calm her nerves and overwhelmed mind. We eventually reached to Ella's apartment, and I guided her out of my car.
"Here we are" I opened the front door for Ella to walk into her small and lovely apartment and I followed behind and closed the door. Her movement was quite slow like watching a slow-motion scene from a film as Ella avoided my gaze.
"Do you want something to drink or eat?" I asked but Ella shook her head and quietly hummed.
"Or do you want to take a nice, warm shower and go to bed? Ella?" I suggested but Ella was still silent.
Ella sat down in the middle of the sofa, her elbows resting on the edge of her knees and her tired head was lying on his palms. Her tearful eyes were filled with grief and sorrow, and they were staring down at the floor until they raised them slowly at my face. I noticed how Ella's pale face like all the happiness and gaiety from her was painfully defiled and turned into dust.
Her downcasted eyes gazed up to meet mine and asked, "How long have you known?"
I knew this line of questioning was about to come around sooner or later, but I paused at the beginning to think about how to answer Ella's question. It was hard figuring out the right words to use because anything I might say could further confuse or scare Ella. I gradually approached Ella and sat down on the sofa next to her, but not too close.
"Remember a year old, when Father Kinley and his insane priests kidnapped me?" I started and the terrorising memory was already rewinding in my mind. The fear of Father Kinley grew instantly and was twisting my stomach like it was making me feel sick.
After Ella silently nodded, I continued explaining, "They forced me to confront the truth. Showing me proof of Lucifer living in different centuries and countries. At the same time, they were showing me some horrible pictures of what people have thought of Lucifer. Making me believe that Lucifer was evil and has been manipulating me ever since. And, I'm guessing Michael has said the same thing."
Ella's face was filled with both realisation and puzzlement; learning that she was taken advantage of by Archangel Michael. It was a familiar look I could relate to when evoking back to how Father Kinley tried to persuade me that Lucifer was a dangerous monster who caused pain to others around him. The protective side of me arose as I couldn't let Michael's manipulation to corrupt Ella's goodness and spoil her special relationship with Lucifer.
"But, he's not evil, Ella. He's still the same crazy, goofy and wonderful man" I ended my answer with a sweet smile when I mentioned Lucifer. Trying to remind Ella of all the great things about Lucifer; such as his funny and friendly personality with his childish jokes.
"And Michael? What is he?" Ella asked and I sensed a pitch of fear hidden in her quiet voice when Ella mentioned the psycho angel.
"Well, he is an angel, just not a good one" I explained, and I hoped that Ella would believe that now. I know it will take a long time for Ella to accept Lucifer as the Devil as well as her friend. I slightly leaned forward and added, "You know Lucifer is also an angel too, he's got wings."
"Really?" she was taken-back by my words. She was probably expecting that the Devil doesn't have wings like an angel.
"Oh yeah. Big, white ones" I grew an amused grin when I described Lucifer's wings. I remember them being so huge made with small and large feathers that were coloured in pure white. A few times in the past, Lucifer carried me and lifted me so high in the sky that I touched the clouds and caught a great view of the beautiful sky and the small world below.
"Lucifer's an angel and the Devil… And you're having his baby?" Ella's voice suddenly sounded less faithless and more scared. Struggling to grasp this new reality as she realised at that second, that I was carrying the first-ever Devil's baby in my womb.
"Yeah. Trust me, it was a big bombshell to me" I muttered, my mind gave me a flashback to when I found out that I was pregnant.
"And, God?" Ella asked as she pointed her finger upwards.
"He's real too. But, personally, I'm not sure what he's really like" I answered as I darted my stare upwards before putting my focus back on my friend. It did make me wonder if God was ever going to do something about Michael's meddling with our lives. Although, a part of me didn't want God to be involved incase he decided to cause more havoc for me, Lucifer and our family.
"Ella, maybe you should rest or sleep, that would be better. You had a stressful day" I advised as I softly stroked my hand on Ella's back, "Then tomorrow you could ask me and Lucifer about anything. We're happy to answer as much as we could."
"Okay…" Ella nodded as she grew a tiresome look.
"Call me if you need anything, alright" I kissed her on the forehead.
I stood up and walked towards the front door, before I exited, I glanced back at Ella one last time to check if it was good to leave her alone. From a few steps away, I could see how Ella was trying to control her shivering, showing that she was still scared of becoming part of this celestial world. In the end, I decided it was probably a good idea to leave Ella some alone time to figure out what she wanted to do next.
After exiting the apartment, I texted Lucifer:
Ella is back home. Better leave her to rest.
I'm going back home. See you tomorrow.
Love you x
Driving back to my home was a quiet journey, when I reached my apartment my phone rang alerting me of Lucifer's text:
Good, hopefully, she'll be better tomorrow.
Sweet dream, detective
Love you more x
Smiling at his sweet text, I opened the front door and went straight to bed.
The next morning was all bright and breezy, Trixie was still asleep in her bed while Maze and I were awake in the kitchen. I was dressed in a black blouse and elastic waist trousers, and I thought it was a good time to tell Maze the news about me and Trixie moving into Lucifer's penthouse. Unfortunately, it was not as much pleasure or easy-going as I hoped.
"No! You got to be shitting me Decker!" Maze shouted like a vicious animal. She was standing in the centre of the apartment near the blue sofa with the biggest hostile look on her face.
I was sitting on one of the bar strolls like a patient parent waiting for their child to calm down with their tantrums. I sedately started explaining, "Maze, I know it's hard. But-"
"But what? You just gonna dumped on my ass just like that" Maze cuts in in a loud, offensive tone.
"I'm not dumping you, Maze. I'm just saying that Trixie and I will be moving in with Lucifer. It's not a bad idea" I corrected her statement. Annoyed that her loudness might wake up Trixie.
"Even after he left you when you were pregnant" Maze pointed out. I felt her sharp words jabbing in my heart as Maze was trying to turn me bitter towards Lucifer like she was.
"He left because he was in shock, and I get that, but Lucifer came around now" I answered for his past action, "We're still together. And, I think it would be good if the baby would grow in the same place with both parents."
Maze snarled in disappointment, so I continued with a firmer voice, "Like it or not, it's my decision Maze."
She ignored my words, dodged past me and entered her bedroom near the stairs. Maze pulls out a big, black-leather bag, drops it harshly on the bed, and starts packing her stuff in it, including her dangerous weapons. I stood by her bedroom door entrance and sympathy added, "I know it'll be sad that we won't be living together anymore. But, we're still gonna see each other."
"Yeah, except you also ditched me when you had your old partner came back" Maze grabbed her packed bag and barked at me. I must admit she was sort of right, when Lucifer returned home, I instantly accepted him to be my partner again and left Maze out.
"I get it you're still angry at me and Lucifer but come on Maze. This is ridiculous" I excused, "Actually, why are you still angry? I thought you would be pleased that Lucifer's back from Hell."
Instead of heading straight to the front door, Maze stopped in the middle of the room again, turned around and faced me with the same pissed-off look on her face, "He should have offered me a lift."
"What? Back to Hell? And, leave us, your friend and family behind?" I asked, flabbergasted that Maze would even consider leaving since she had become a true family member and created a special bond with Trixie.
"I wanted to get away" Maze answered, but she was quieter this time, clueing me that something happened to her before Lucifer left for Hell. Something that must have hit Maze so harshly that she wanted to leave Earth.
"Away from what?" I questioned but Maze didn't answer me, so I took a step closer and repeated myself, "What's really going on, Maze?"
"Nothing! And, why should you care? Now, that you're leaving" Maze snarled in a cold and insolent tone.
"I do care, Maze. I care that you're happy" my soft-hearted words were worthless to her ears as Maze rolled her eyes with a fake smirk, but I continued, "All I'm saying, Maze, is that you're not alone. And, I'm sure you'll find someone who you like as a roommate or…"
My words quickly died off when I realised I should stop my sentence there, but Maze demanded to know what I was about to finish, "Or what? What were you going to say?"
"I think you're scared of being alone, that you don't want to feel lonely, and maybe you want to connect with someone in a more friendly way. And not just sexually" I theorised, sensing that Maze might have a new kind of wanting in a special relationship.
"Why would I need someone?" Maze huffed in a cocky tone, mocking my thoughtful words, "I'm great on my own."
"You did try to kiss me, Maze, remember" I indicated. It was right before I had that dead DJ case and after Lucifer and I had a fight, Maze was comforting me as a good friend and then she kissed me out of the blue. I was so puzzled at that moment, but now, I was thinking that maybe Maze was looking for someone with a special connection like what Lucifer and I have.
"That was nothing" Maze replied with a fake laugh, acting like I was delusional, but I could easily see through her facade.
"It looked nothing to you" I argued and then remembered something else Maze mentioned to me while about, "And, what about Eve?"
When I brought up Eve's name, it hit Maze harder like she got slapped by a bag of rocks. Maze's cocky grin dropped, and she snarled, "What about her?"
"You said you felt some connection with her" I reminded Maze of what she said to me back before Maze became my partner.
"And, that crumbled to shit" Maze growled with more rage boiling at the back of her voice, I also caught a glimpse of discomfort and regret hidden by the corner of her dark eyes.
At that moment, I could finally see the bigger picture; Maze was getting close to someone emotionally and that sadly backfired and she was hurt by the rejection. I never realised that we were in a similar position, we were both trying to fill an empty void from losing someone we truly cared about. Looking back to the time when Maze was my partner and when she unexpectedly kissed me, my brain started analysing that perhaps Maze was trying to avoid her pain by using me as a distraction. Of course, I didn't feel offended because I was doing the same thing to her.
Now Lucifer has returned and we got back together as a couple again, Maze was frustrated to become the third wheel and is left to deal with the broken pieces of her heartbreak. I could see that Maze was hiding her fear of getting hurt again, I took another step forward and encouraged her, "Maze, it's not bad to consider finding a connection with someone."
"You don't get it, do you Decker?" Maze's tone of bitterness returns as she starts walking towards me. Like a cat crawling towards an innocent mouse but I wasn't afraid as Maze began explaining, "I'm a soulless, vicious demon, I live for the pain and the torture and the pleasure of getting what I want. Would you want someone like that?"
A part of me was going to say 'Well, I am in a relationship with the Devil' but it wasn't the right time nor the place to be sarky. I slowly exhaled and calmly replied, "I already know you, Maze, and I think of you as a close friend and a good auntie. You're not alone. Just think about it."
"Bullshit" she hissed like a vicious snake as Maze was discontentedly adamant that no one could understand who she is and what she is. The stubborn demon swiftly turned around, grabbed her bag and rushed out of the apartment.
"Maze!" I yelled her name, but my calls were ignored and Maze disappeared from my view as she aggressively slammed the front door. Leaving me to stand alone in quietness as my concerns for my good friend rapidly grew.
The silence was broken when my ears caught the cranking sound of a door sliding across. I turned to my left side to see Trixie opening her bedroom door with a tired smile as she started the day with a massive yarn, "Hey mum."
"Morning, monkey. Sorry about the noise" I walked over to my little girl to give her a warm hug and a sweet kiss on her small head.
"Where did Maze go?" Trixie asked as we both started strolling over to the kitchen.
"Oh, she left for work" I lied, wasn't exactly sure if Maze had dashed off to work or somewhere else to cool off.
"She always stays for breakfast" Trixie's sweet voice was consumed with concern with a curious look on her tired face. My ingenue daughter walked up to the kitchen island and sat down on one of the tall stalls.
"Yeah, well, something came up" I huffed still feeling frustrated at Maze's outburst, while I was making Trixie's breakfast. Bowling some cereal and milk in a small bowl, dipped a spoon in and hands it over to my little girl, "Here you go, monkey."
Trixie instantly started digging in and eating her cereal as I could hear the small crushes of her breakfast being munched in her tiny mouth. She was too focused on her breakfast that Trixie didn't notice the uneasy look blooming on my face. After Maze's enraged reaction to the moving-in idea, I began to worry about how Trixie might respond.
I took a step forward with my elbows leaning on the marble surface of the kitchen island, trying to hide the worriedness that was showing on my face, "Hey, monkey, can we talk?"
"About what?" she nodded before taking another spoonful of cereal.
"Well, something has popped up and I want to run it by you first because I want to know if you will be happy with it" I started.
"What is it?" Trixie eventually finished her breakfast and put her spoon in her bowl, I felt her tiny, brown eyes staring right up to mine.
"Lucifer has asked me if we could live together" instantly, I had to gulp down a fraught lump formed in my throat, the words came out through my shaking lips slow and clear.
I watched the words leisurely sink in as Trixie widened her eyes in surprise, not in a bad way thankfully. The waiting for her response was a bit intense for my nervous heart but, Trixie broke the harsh silence, "Really?"
"Yeah" I nodded.
"Here?"
"No, at his penthouse. There wouldn't be enough space here for us when the baby arrives" I explained. As much as I loved our apartment here, I agreed with Lucifer's idea of all three of us staying in his penthouse. Especially, if we have an extra floor to make more room for Trixie and the baby.
"Will my room be bigger?" Trixie asked. I could see in her small, lovely eyes that Trixie was already imagining herself living the Life of Riley.
"Yeah, I think so" I answered.
"When will we move?" she leans forward, her eyes sparkled with keen amusement.
"We haven't set a date yet, honey. But, Trixie, are you okay with this?" my hand reached over and covered her small wrist. Wanting Trixie to understand how important her opinions are to me because her well-being is important and is my priority.
"Yeah, I think it would be cool to live in the penthouse" Trixie beamed happily, and my heart leapt in ecstasy when I heard her answer. Delighted to hear that Trixie was excited about this moving-in idea, and was completely the opposite to Maze's reaction.
"So, am I allowed to go to the bar?" Trixie asked with a sly smirk.
"At the penthouse? Yes. In Lux? Absolutely not" I replied as I knew exactly where Trixie was heading.
"Mum!" she groaned.
"There's lot of crazy people down there. I don't want you to be around them" I clarify but, of course, Trixie didn't concurred with my decision.
"But Lucifer goes down there" she argued with a smug smile.
"Exactly, we've already one crazy person in the penthouse, why look for more?" I winked but we both giggled. I love listening to Trixie's sweet voice whenever she talks or laughs, it lights up my heart.
"Does Dad know?" she asked and quickly the warm atmosphere in the room became salty and dingy.
My throat and mouth became dry at the thought of telling Dan the news and could already imagine all the nasty comments he would say against Lucifer's idea. He's been an asshole with a vicious tongue, especially when it comes to Lucifer and I knew that this will push him over the edge. I paused before replying, "Not yet. Don't tell him, please. I'll tell him when I get back to work, okay."
"Okay" she promised while walking around the kitchen to put her bowl in the sink for me to wash up later. Meanwhile, my mind started brainstorming sentences for me to use when informing Dan about the moving-in idea. It can't be worse than Maze's reaction, could it?
Precinct
After dropping Trixie off at school, I planned two things to do when I reached the precinct; one, tell Dan about the news of moving in with Lucifer, and two, find Lucifer to further talk about our plans about moving into the penthouse. When I arrived at work, I walked down the stairs while my eyes scanned around the rooms for Dan. However, he was nowhere in sight, and I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Excuse me" a new, courteous voice appeared behind me, and I turned around to see a white man with dirty blonde hair and pale green eyes. He was a bit younger than me, he was carrying large files of paperwork and dressed in an officer uniform, "Sorry, I'm looking for the lieutenant."
My hand raised and pointed in the right direction, "Oh, Lieutenant Miller be in her office. Are you new?"
"Yes, ma'am, I'm Officer Carol Corbett" he reached out and shook my hand.
"Chloe Decker" I replied with a welcomed smile. My mind flashed back to when I first entered the precinct as a new rookie, it was quite an anxious but thrilling experience for me. I added, "Congrats. If you need any hand with anything, let me know."
"Thank you, ma'am, I mean Chloe" Carol replied, sounding quite nervous but relieved at the same time.
"See ya later" I watched Carol walk away.
At the same time, I finally spotted Dan walking out of the forensic lab and I knew this was my chance to talk to him. My shaking legs started walking towards him and my heart was beating faster than usual. Dan was talking to another officer, but I could hear their conversation was gradually ending. It was now or never.
When the officer walked away, I took the chance and jumped in, "Hi Dan, you alright?"
"Hey, Chloe. Yeah, I'm all good" he answered.
"Um… can we talk for a minute please?" I asked.
"Sure, what's up?" Dan stood in a patient position, ready to listen to me but I felt uncomfortable about talking to him about something major and serious when people were surrounding us.
"Maybe in the conference room?" I suggested, wanting to talk to him alone and where it will be quiet.
"Sure" he nodded and led the way.
Dan opened the glass door for me to walk through first and then himself after, the room was brightened by the sunny light shining through the glass windows but, most of all, it was nice and quiet which was perfect for us to have our conversation. After closing the door, Dan strolled back towards me, the closer he appeared the faster my anxious heart was beating.
"You okay?" his voice sounded worried, realising that what I was about to say was going to be something serious.
"Yeah" I nodded.
"Did Lucifer do anything to you?" Dan asked.
"No? Why would you say that?" a nonplussed look grew on my face.
Acting like it was obvious, Dan explained, "Because he can be irresponsible and…"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it" I quickly interrupted while annoyed that Dan was still holding a huge, childish grudge against Lucifer. I could already predict where this was going, so I slightly changed the subject, "Listen, something has come up and I need you to be calm and rational when I tell you it."
"Alright" he nodded patiently; however I could sense that Dan's calmness would be demolished by my upcoming words.
"Since me and Lucifer are going to have a baby" I started and, straightaway, the mention of Lucifer's name made Dan tighten his fists and grind his teeth in rage. The nervousness tingled down my spine and made my legs feel weak, but I ignored that sharp feeling and assembled a bit more courage to continue, "We decided to move in together at his penthouse."
"Wait, what?" a wave of confusion hits him hard, but then the anger eventually emerges, and Dan's voice becomes louder and sneers, "Chlo, you can't be serious."
Instead of rising to his heated level, I tried to calmly persuade Dan about this idea, "I am serious, I mean we haven't set a date or anything yet, but he talked about getting more room for the baby and…"
"He's toxic!" Dan cuts in while his face is completely painted in anger and hatred, "He's a reckless, psychopath! How could you want to stay with that guy?"
"Lucifer is nothing like that" I shook my head while trying to keep me calm and professional.
Dan's eyes widened in shock when he realised something, "Is Trixie going to live with him?"
"Yeah" I nodded.
A disturbing pause occurred between us before Dan growled, "Hell no."
"Come on, Dan" I signed in annoyance.
"I am not going to let my daughter stay with that murderer!" he growled like a furious animal, acting like what I was saying was nothing more than utter claptrap.
"He's not a murderer! Get your head out of your ass for once!" I shouted.
I walked in closer to Dan and snarled in a firm and sour tone, "You got to stop this, Dan. Get help, talk to Linda, or anyone, I don't care. But do not let your anger infect our daughter's life. This is happening, whether you like it or not."
Not wanting to listen to more of his impurity and revolting words, I stormed out of the conference room leaving Dan alone. I couldn't hear any footsteps following from behind, telling me that Dan wasn't going to chase after me and argue now. Well, maybe Dan might bring up this argument again later today, however I knew he wasn't deigned to think about our plans. I headed to my desk where there was a few paperwork for me to look through and complete.
"Detective!" a handsome, British voice echoed to my ears, I instantly raised my head and a blissful grin grew on my face.
"Hey" I joyfully grinned as I watched Lucifer ambling down the bottom of the stairs and wandered to my desk. Lucifer was dressed in a pale blue shirt beneath a dark blue waistcoat and smart jacket and trousers.
"How was Miss Lopez last night?" his gentle voice changed to a concerned tone. After that dramatic experience we went through last night, Lucifer could understand that Ella was still lost in a mist of confusion and resentment.
"Still shaken up, but okay, I think" I answered.
Neither Lucifer nor I weren't offended by Ella's unexpected reaction last night, even though seeing the gun nearly gave us a heart attack and scared us to the core. However, we understood Ella's terrifying reaction due to Michael's manipulation of fear planted in her head about Lucifer being the Devil, someone who is evil and dangerous. It was like how I reacted when I first discovered Lucifer's true identity, I was resentful and repelling towards Lucifer and believed him to be a diabolical creature.
By the corner of his eye, Lucifer notices Dan leaving the conference room with a furious look and the Devil joked, "Detective Douche looks more miserable than ever. What happened? Did someone try to steal his puddy again?"
"No, I just told him that we're moving in together" I corrected him as I grew a despised look when we talked about Dan.
"And, he disapproves I assume" Lucifer guessed correctly.
"Yep. But, you'll be pleased to hear that Trixie is happy about the idea" I mentioned.
"Oh, that's excellent" Lucifer gleefully grinned, he was as pleased as I was to hear that Trixie was on board with his moving-in idea, "Speaking of, I was thinking we can start planning on designing the rooms back home. Such as paint colours"
"Yeah, that would be great. I've got a couple of paperwork to fill, but I'll be free afterwards" I was delighted to hear that Lucifer has been further thinking about the apartment in detail.
"No cases today?" Lucifer curiously asked yet he sounded slightly disappointed.
"I think there are some, but I can't participate in the field now due to the pregnancy" I explained which is sad news for both me and Lucifer. I enjoyed working in the field but now I have to consider the safety of our unborn child.
"But, then who I am going to work with now?" reasonably, Lucifer was upset that I would be dismissed from working on cases with him.
"Well, you could always help me with paperwork" I suggested as my hand softly patted the flat surface of the paperwork on my desk.
"Detective, I love you, but you're sense of humour still needs a bit of work" he replied, and I chuckled at his witticism while an idea popped into my head.
"Well, there's actually a new rookie here, maybe you could help him" I swirled around on my chair and pointed my finger in the direction towards the Lieutenant's office.
Lucifer followed my gaze and glanced across the clear space between us and the Lieutenant's office and through the window glass he saw Officer Carol talking with the Lieutenant. Forming a lopsided smile on his charming face, "Um… he doesn't look that bad."
"He's really sweet" I added before spinning around to face Lucifer again, "You can show him the ropes and help him on some of the cases."
"Yes" Lucifer hummed as he was lost in his own thoughts. I was somewhat surprised by his answer because a part of me assumed that Lucifer would complain that he didn't wish to babysit any new rookies. The egotistic side awakens and Lucifer wickedly smirks, "Maybe, it would be good to give off some of my wisdom."
Knowing that Lucifer can sometimes misinterpret or try to recklessly entrain himself during work with his guile. Concerned for Lucifer's and Carol's sake, I instructed firmly, "Yeah. Just don't do anything that will end up killing him."
"Of course not. Have you ever known me to be imprudent" Lucifer deadpanned as he placed his hand over his heart and put on a fake sympatric look.
"Many times, but you're getting better" I answered with a hint of sarcasm through my lopsided smile. Lucifer always acted infallible, which sometimes got him into trouble.
"So is your sense of humour, detective" Lucifer fired back with a cheeky wink. All I could do was roll my eyes and giggle at his last comment.
Lucifer's Pov
Of course, I was glum to hear that the detective wouldn't be able to work in the field with murder cases at the moment. Usually, I would have worked closely with Miss Lopez as she would be such great company, that was until she was traumatised from seeing my Devil's face. Daniel would be no fun at all and there was no one else to accompany me.
I may have never seen or heard of Carol before, but I always can sense a person's character after looking at them. After seeing Carol from the Lieutenant's Office, I could already tell he had a friendly and mellow personality. Nervousness was slightly expressed on Carol's face which is reasonable for a new rookie, but I caught him with a friendly face and stood in a professional pose.
After leaving the detective at her desk, I walked towards Carol who was standing by the venting machine waiting for a snack, and it was the right time for my introduction, "Hello."
Startled at first, but Carol straightaway fell for my charming voice as I continued, "You must be new."
"Yes, hi, I'm Carol" the young man reached his hand out to shake mine.
"Lucifer Morningstar" I presented myself.
"Ah, cool name" I could see the curiosity in Carol's eyes when I mentioned my name. A question was on the edge of his lips, but he held it back for respect.
"What's this?" I noticed a piece of paper in his hands.
"Oh, it's my first assigned case" Carol beamed in excitement.
"Excellent! Let's see where we're heading" I firmly picked the paper from Carol's hand and opened it to find the printed address on the paper.
"Oh, you're leading the case?" he asked with a puzzled look, now thinking I was the head detective for the case. What a mad thought.
"No, I am a consultant, therefore…" I took a step closer to Carol and rested my right hand on his left shoulder where my fingers felt his firm muscles, quite impressive. All of his focus was on my face while I was presenting an endearing smirk, "I'm gonna show you the fun aspects of these murder cases."
He seemed clueless at first but, politely, Carol nodded to show his interest. I was starting to see how entertaining this case could be because the detective sometimes spoils my fun ideas during work but with Carol, I might be able to spice-up the case. I raised the paper again and checked out the address, "Now, where are we heading?"
It was sad to say, that it was not what I anticipated.
Later…
This was like a joke that my dad set up because I was not expecting to be standing outside a convent for my new murder case. There were tall, black gates in front of me with two small palm trees positioned on the sides and their title at the top saying 'Sisters of the Divine Path.' My gaze followed upwards to the very top where it held a stone statue of the crucifixes of Jesus.
"Of course" a vexed sign escaped through my lips as I pinned my stare on the dying Jesus hanging on the cross. A sarcastic smirk grew on my face as I mocked, "Keep hanging in there, brother."
