On the morning of Monday, January 11th, 1993, Skyward School of Practical Sorcery would endure a bone chilling moment.
The students and staff were still seated in the Eating and Meeting Hall having just finished their delicious breakfast of pancakes with maple syrup, sausage patties, and orange juice when an unnatural chill seemed to engulf the entire hall.
A nanosecond after this chill was first felt, long, slow rattling breaths were heard.
No less than four dementors had just entered the Eating and Meeting Hall without warning.
They seemed to be rogue dementors because they did not seem to have a specific target. One dementor headed towards the north end of the hall, another towards the south end, another towards the east end, and another towards the west end. Moreover, they all approached people who would very clearly be considered rank and file type people who had no real significance within the context of either the world or the school.
Instinctively, Sirius, Remus, Amelia, and Heather all retrieved their wands from their right hand pockets with their right hands. They all raised their wands into a ready position. Sirius pointed his wand at the north dementor, Remus aimed his wand at the south dementor, Amelia directed her wand towards the east dementor, and Heather pointed her wand towards the west dementor.
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" cried Sirius, Remus, Amelia, and Heather at the exact same nanosecond.
Something very interesting happened next. Sirius, Remus, Amelia, and Heather all had an unusually large amount of silver vapor come out of their wands, but none of their patronuses had a clearly defined form.
Then, the silver vapor turned the Yellow Quartet's exact shade of yellow and formed itself into a very large square. Their combined patronuses had taken on the form of the Yellow Quartet's logo in an exponentially enlarged state.
This patronus lifted itself and glided itself around the hall, driving out all of the dementors.
When they were gone, Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah, sitting in their usual seats at the Yellow Quartet's table all had goosebumps.
Their guardians had clearly been thinking of them to produce a guardian that drove the dementors away.
They all had a few tears in their eyes as well.
The adults, however, had very serious concerns.
"Those were rogue dementors," said Sirius seriously, "That is obvious from their different directions and random targets."
"Dementors," said Remus disapprovingly, "Are, along with lethifolds, amongst the foulest creatures to walk this earth."
"I still remember," said Heather with a shiver in her body and a quiver in her voice, "Those rogue dementors that attacked Abbott Manor on November 1st, 1991."
"I'm still pissed about how unconcerned Fudge was about that," said Amelia angrily, "His insistences on how rare rogue dementors are failed to appreciate the severity of having dementors on the loose. His stance that he only feels safe in his bed at night because he knows the dementors are standing guard at Azkaban just proves how ignorant he is."
"And," came a sudden voice, "He's been just as unreasonable this time around."
That voice belonged to Steven Secret, who had created a paper airplane portkey to arrive at Skyward School of Practical Sorcery.
"Steven?" asked Amelia urgently, "Have there been other dementor attacks this morning?"
"These rogue dementors were at the Ministry of Magic itself, including having gotten into the Department of Mysteries, before they came here. I drove them away. I came here because I wanted to inform you of what happened at the Ministry this morning before you came to work. I arrived in time to see them attack here and Sirius, Remus, Heather, and you all drive them away," replied Steven in a very tense voice.
"I was thinking of the eight of us," said Amelia, pointing between Harry, Amy, Susan, Hannah, Sirius, Remus, Heather, and herself, "I just focused my mind on a mental image of the eight of us together."
"Me too!" chorused Sirius, Remus, and Heather.
"Aww!" cooed Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah, feeling and appreciating how much the bond between them all meant to their guardians.
"So," said Steven wearily, "After these rogue dementors turned up at the Department of Mysteries, I confronted Fudge and informed him of their appearance. He told me he had seen them enter the Ministry building but did not know where they went from there. I reminded him of the incident at Abbott Manor fourteen and a half months ago and the pleas from people, especially parents, to remove Azkaban from the control of the dementors. His attitude was the same as last time, talking about the fact rogue dementors aren't running around every day. I tried to talk sense into him about the importance of the danger. He is still clinging to focusing on how often dementors go rogue being the key and not acknowledging the importance of how serious rogue dementors are, regardless of their frequency or rarity. It only takes once for something to go terribly wrong you know."
At the Yellow Quartet's table, a scared and shaken looking Amy cuddled up to Harry without thinking about it.
Recognizing Amy's need for reassurance, Harry stroked her hair with his left hand and patted her on the back with his right hand, doing both as gently as possible.
Feeling better almost immediately, Amy said sincerely, "Thank you, Harry. You are my greatest source of comfort."
"And you are mine," Harry reciprocated.
"Those two," smiled Steven, pointing between Harry and Amy, "Truly are the most intimate besties ever."
Harry and Amy smiled at each other at that, each feeling an unexplainable happiness from seeing each other's smiles.
Even in the darkest of times, Harry and Amy were besties who found joy in each other.
"Heather?" piped up Steven, "Fudge will need to be removed from office before this plan can take place, but I've been studying ways to get rid of dementors and other Unspeakables have been studying them as well. I have a plan to make dementors go extinct."
Everyone in the Eating and Meeting Hall looked up with intent and hopeful gazes.
"Well," said Sirius seriously, "If I had dementors after me, I'd settle somewhere hot and sunny. I can't imagine that heat and light are good for dementors."
"Sirius," smiled Steven, "You've just put your dart on the bullseye. Here's the long and the short of it: Our studies at the Department of Mysteries have confirmed to us two very important things about dementors. The first is that exposure to heat and light greatly reduces the lifespan of dementors. The second is that exposure to heat and light prevents dementors from breeding. Dementors need cold and darkness in order to breed. So, once Fudge has been removed from office-"
"How likely is that?" wondered Lee.
"It will happen within the next few days," predicted Steven, "The thing is, after this latest incident, Fudge will face enormous pressure to resign. He will have so much heat put on him this time that I think he will resign in order to get away from it all. Once he is out of office, my plan is to put together a Dementor Depletion Squad to capture all of the dementors. I intend to create a special Sun Room in the Department of Mysteries. The Dementor Depletion Squad will find and capture all the dementors. The dementors will then be placed in the Sun Room where they will be exposed to intense sunlight. It is unknown exactly how long it will take all of the dementors to die off after being placed in the Sun Room, but a key point will be their inability to breed. We are edging ever closer to the end of dementors. My intent is for the dementors at Azkaban to be replaced by Aurors. "
"One major concern," observed Susan, "Is that even with Lord Voldemort having gone the way of Darling Clementine, we cannot trust the dementors to remain loyal to us. There will be other Dark Witches and Wizards that come along who could convince the dementors to desert Azkaban and side with them."
"Dementors," agreed Hannah, "Are the natural allies of Dark Witches and Wizards."
"They are too inhumane anyway," added Amy, "Not to mention that we are all in danger as long as dementors continue to exist."
"And they're unpredictable," said Harry in a crystal clear voice, "One of the most dangerous things about dementors is that their behavior is consistently inconsistent. They can always go rogue at any nanosecond without warning. I think we are very lucky no one lost their souls in either the attack on Abbott Manor or this morning's attacks on the Ministry of Magic and Skyward School of Practical Sorcery. "
"That," nodded Steven matter of factly, "Is why it is so important to bring dementors to an end. That will be happening sooner rather than later."
