CHAPTER 371
With one tremendous bellow the spinosaurus charged. Kyra felt like her organs were shaking inside her as the beast powered forward.
Needles dipped his body and lunged to the side. Kyra nearly lost her grip and felt herself slide almost completely off of the raptor's back. She repositioned and hugged close to the hunter's neck. Behind her Kyra felt the spinosaur's girth rush past. When she turned she saw that Ghost was close by, and then just a bit further were Roadkill and Vulture carrying Seth and Dr. Levine. Everyone turned and their eyes followed the abominable spinosaur as she charged.
Gigantor did not exercise a shred of cowardice. The massive theropod cut in front of Rebirtha and lunged at the spinosaurus taking on the brunt of her attack. The beasts collided, and their jaws flung in opposing directions, but the spinosaur struck with more force. She shoved Gigantor into Rebirtha, and the two carnivores fell over.
Rebirtha roared in a fit, but could not get up as Gigantor had collapsed on top of her.
The spinosaurus tried to bite Gigantor, but Gigantor kicked her in the face, then rolled onto her feet and started to get up, but Rebirtha shoved her with her own hind talons. Gigantor tumbled into the spinosaur's ankles, and the spinosaur fell on top of her. By this time Rebirtha was on her feet, and she charged in and dug her teeth into the spinosaur's throat.
Gigantor was writhing underneath, and she started biting at the spinosaur's legs. The spinosaur shrieked and bellowed, but could not get up while her neck and limbs were between the jaws of the other two carnivores.
Rebirtha began to drag the spinosaurus by the neck, and soon enough Gigantor was able to wriggle free. Tromping to her feet she circled around and went to bite the spinosaur, but Rebirtha's thick tail whipped to the side and thumped Gigantor in the head. Gigantor in turn chomped down on Rebirtha's tail.
With a bellow Rebirtha released the spinosaur and turned on Gigantor. The two beasts roared at each other, and Gigantor was about to lunge at Rebirtha, but the spinosaur was back on her feet. With her long forelimbs she grappled over Rebirtha's back and then sunk her teeth into her shoulders.
Rebirtha fought back, and the two animals went stumbling into the pallet stacks with a crash. Pallets fell and crumbled, and the two theropods sunk into a rubble of broken wood. As they landed on their sides Gigantor dove back into the brawl. With one foot she pinned Rebirtha's ribs, and with her jaws she snapped at the spinosaurus. This was not a feat that Gigantor could keep up for very long as she was trying to keep two super predators held in submission. After little time of the other two fighting back Gigantor lost her balance and collapsed on top of them. All three theropods tangled into a knot of clapping teeth and slashing talons. Their bodies heaved and their tails slapped at the air. A great creaking and cracking cacophony shuddered through the pile of broken pallets they fought upon as more stacks toppled over on top of them.
Sitting on Vulture's back and watching from afar Dr. Levine said with great hesitation in her heart, "I think this is an opportune time for us to make our silent exit." She didn't want to leave. She was captivated by the carnage, but she knew there was little time to hesitate. "Yes," she nodded. "Let's go."
Seth and Kyra met her eyes and nodded back. Vulture trilled and clucked to her cohorts, and the small and unusual pack of raptors and humans departed.
