Chapter 46:
The next two months flew by for the Champions. After the holiday break, Kaien pushed them even harder in preparation for the second task. He had them practicing swimming in the Black Lake early every morning. Harry and Artoria had to take private swimming lessons with Kaien, as neither of them knew how to swim. Despite the looming task, Kaien allowed the Champions to have their afternoons and evenings free, giving them the opportunity to nurture their relationships with their dance partners.
With the second task quickly approaching, Kaien issued an order: all students who weren't Champions had to walk in pairs. If a professor needed to meet with one of them, the other student would follow and wait outside. If that wasn't possible, they were instructed to contact Kaien immediately. Everyone quickly agreed to his instructions.
Scene Change: February 23rd, 1995 – Great Hall
Everyone was eating dinner in the Great Hall when Professor McGonagall approached their table.
"Hello, Professor McGonagall. What can we do for you?" Kaien asked.
"Professor Dumbledore has requested to see Miss Granger, Miss Lovegood, and Miss Spinnet in his office," she replied.
"Very well, I will escort them," Kaien said.
"It's not necessary, Mister Shiba," Professor McGonagall answered.
"Oh, I insist. I must ensure my students and those who've placed their trust in me are protected," Kaien said. Professor McGonagall sighed.
"Very well. The password is 'Jelly Beans,'" she said before walking away.
Hermione, Luna, and Alicia soon finished their dinners. Kaien led them to Professor Dumbledore's office, where they arrived at the stone gargoyle.
"Jelly Beans," Kaien said, and the gargoyle moved aside, revealing a hidden stairway. They ascended the stairs and reached the door. Kaien knocked.
"Come in," Dumbledore's voice called.
Kaien opened the door to find Dumbledore, Madam Maxime, and Professor Karkaroff already present. "Ah, Mister Shiba, thank you for escorting these students. You may leave now," Dumbledore said.
"No," Kaien replied firmly. "Whatever you need them for, I will stay here," he added. Dumbledore sighed as the door closed behind them. Kaien noticed a familiar face standing by Madam Maxime. It was Gabrielle Delacour.
"Mister Shiba," Gabrielle said with a thick French accent.
"Hello, Miss Delacour," Kaien replied.
"Thank you for coming here," Dumbledore began. "The four of you have been selected to be placed at the bottom of the Black Lake as hostages for the Champions to rescue."
"I think not," Kaien interrupted. All heads turned to him. "What gives you the right to force students—who are not Champions—to participate in the tournament?"
"They're not participating in the tournament," Professor Karkaroff argued.
"Of course they are," Kaien retorted. "You're making students who aren't involved in the tournament in any way act as hostages for the Champions. That makes them a part of the tournament." He glanced at Hermione, Luna, and Gabrielle. "Especially minors."
"As their Headmaster, I can act as a pseudo-guardian when their parents are unavailable," Dumbledore explained.
"OBJECTION!" Kaien shouted, pointing at Dumbledore. "You are not the Headmaster for Miss Granger," Kaien said.
"Ah..." Dumbledore paused, "It appears old age has caused me to forget that. But Miss Lovegood is indeed my student."
"Correct," Kaien said, pulling out a sheet of parchment. "Good thing I have this," he said, handing it to Dumbledore. Dumbledore took it, reading the contents, his eyes widening in surprise. Kaien quickly took the parchment back.
"What is that?" Karkaroff demanded.
"It's a letter from Mister Lovegood, Luna's father," Kaien explained. "He was furious when he heard what happened to Luna and, knowing he couldn't physically be there in an emergency, wrote this note granting me pseudo-guardian status in certain situations."
"As for me," Alicia interjected, "I'm an adult witch, which means I can decide whether or not I want to participate." She smirked. "And in fact, I don't want to."
"Lastly, Miss Delacour," Kaien said, turning to Gabrielle. "Does she know the dangers you're putting her in?"
"Of course, she knows," Madam Maxime answered.
"Then let me ask her directly," Kaien said, switching to French.
": Gabrielle, did Madam Maxime tell you why you're here? :" Kaien asked.
": She said she'll take me to see Fleur after this meeting, :" Gabrielle replied in French. Madam Maxime flinched.
": So, she didn't tell you what's going to happen tomorrow? :" Kaien asked.
": Tomorrow's the second task, : " Gabrielle answered.
": Right. And Madam Maxime intends to throw you into the Black Lake for Fleur to swim down and retrieve you, :" Kaien said.
": What? " Gabrielle exclaimed, shocked. Kaien turned to Madam Maxime.
"Looks like you didn't even tell her your plan," Kaien said, switching back to English. "You intended to stun her and throw her into the Black Lake without informing her of what's going on." He shook his head. "Here's what's going to happen: all three of you will stay here and figure out what the Champions need to retrieve from the Black Lake that isn't a student," Kaien said firmly.
The judges opened their mouths to argue, but Kaien silenced them with a sharp glare. "While I escort these students out," Kaien added.
The door behind him suddenly opened, causing Dumbledore to freeze in surprise.
"How?" Dumbledore thought. "I sealed the door with my authority as Headmaster."
Kaien motioned for the students to follow, and they exited Dumbledore's office. The door closed behind them. "I need to figure out how he bypassed my authority," Dumbledore thought, watching them leave.
"So, what should we do now, Dumbledore?" Madam Maxime asked.
"We should order the house elves to get them at night," Professor Karkaroff suggested.
Madam Maxime looked at him in disbelief.
"Easier said than done," Dumbledore replied. "They've somehow warded their private quarters to prevent me—or any house elves—from entering," Dumbledore continued with a lie.
"It's better to say that than admit that none of the house elves or the portraits are obeying my orders if they're even remotely related to them," Dumbledore thought, lying further.
"What? How?" Karkaroff asked, confused.
"I admit I'm not sure. Perhaps some Japanese spell or ward?" Dumbledore lied again.
"Getting back on track," Madam Maxime said. "What should we use as hostages instead of them?"
"Maybe their respective school flags?" Dumbledore suggested.
"That could work," Professor Karkaroff agreed. Madam Maxime nodded her head in agreement.
"So, we agree to place our school's flag at the bottom of the Black Lake," Dumbledore confirmed.
"I will hand it to you in the morning," Karkaroff said.
"So will I," Madam Maxime added.
"Very well. See you in the morning," Dumbledore concluded. The respective Heads stood up and left his office. Once they were gone, Dumbledore walked over to the only stationary portrait in his office—an image of a castle on a grassy plain that reminded him of Hogwarts. Tapping his wand on the portrait, a secret passageway revealed itself.
Dumbledore entered the passageway, which led him to the fourth floor. He walked down the empty corridor and arrived at a large Hogwarts Coat of Arms. Pointing his wand at the center of the coat of arms, he said, "I, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the current Headmaster of Hogwarts, command you to open."
The Coat of Arms glowed white as the four houses separated, revealing another hidden corridor. Dumbledore entered and continued walking down the path until he came to a massive stone pillar, radiating magical energy. He touched it but felt nothing.
"It can't be. How did I get disconnected from the wards?" Dumbledore thought.
"It's because Hogwarts has determined that you failed your students and reverted control to someone else," a voice said. Dumbledore turned but saw no one.
"No… I am the Headmaster of Hogwarts. I hold the Hogwarts wards," Dumbledore thought, trying to reconnect with them. Suddenly, a blast of magical energy hit him, sending him flying out of the chamber and back into the empty corridor. The Coat of Arms closed itself behind him.
Dumbledore quickly stood up and pointed his wand at the Coat of Arms. "I, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the current Headmaster of Hogwarts, command you to open!" he shouted. Nothing happened.
"I, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the current Headmaster of Hogwarts, command you to open!" he repeated, desperation creeping into his voice.
The Coat of Arms remained unmoving.
"No… no… NO!" Dumbledore panicked, pacing the corridor. "Fawkes!" Fawkes appeared in a ball of fire and landed on Dumbledore's shoulder.
"Teleport me past this point," Dumbledore ordered.
Fawkes nodded but then shook his head.
"What? You can't?" Dumbledore asked, frustrated. Fawkes nodded again.
"Grr… take me back to my office," Dumbledore muttered, and Fawkes teleported them back to Dumbledore's office. Fawkes flew to his perch and began grooming himself.
Dumbledore began questioning each portrait of former Headmasters and Headmistresses, trying to uncover the source of the problem.
Scene Change: Kaien's Private Quarters
Kaien escorted everyone back to his private quarters.
"Kaien?" Alicia asked.
"Yes?" Kaien replied.
"Is it okay for me to stay here for the night?" Alicia asked.
"Scared Dumbledore might kidnap you in the middle of the night for the tournament?" Kaien teased.
"Actually, a little," Alicia admitted.
"Sure," Kaien said. They soon reached the portrait. "Sir Galahad." The portrait swung open, and they entered. The others were relaxing in the common room.
"Gabi?" Fleur called out.
"Fleur!" Gabrielle cried, rushing to her sister. Kaien and the group quietly entered.
"Gabrielle, what are you doing here?" Fleur asked in French.
"I'm here to watch you compete in the tournament," Gabrielle answered.
"Madam Maxime intended for you to be rescued by Fleur," Kaien said, in French.
"What!?" Fleur shrieked.
"So, something bad just happened?" Fred asked, looking at Kaien.
Kaien quickly explained what had transpired in Dumbledore's office. Everyone remembered how hysterical Fleur had been when they first discovered the second task.
"Until the end of the second task, every non-champion in this room will either be under my watch or Artoria's," Kaien said. Everyone nodded, understanding the situation.
"So, Fred…" Alicia started.
"Yes, Alicia?" Fred replied.
"Could I stay in your room tonight?" she asked, clearly embarrassed.
"Um…" Fred hesitated.
"Don't worry, Fred. I'll ask Kaien for a different room for the night," George said with a smirk, heading over to Kaien.
"Sure?" Fred muttered as he and Alicia walked upstairs.
"Make sure you use silencing charms!" Kaien called after them, causing Fred and Alicia to blush. Everyone in the common room chuckled.
Soon, everyone else went to sleep.
Time Skip: The Next Day
The next day, the topic of the second task dominated every conversation. Students speculated about what the Champions would have to face. The Champion's table was empty, further fueling their curiosity. Slowly, everyone made their way to the Black Lake, where a stadium had been erected for the second task.
As the crowd approached the stadium, a giant privacy bubble appeared, containing the Champions and their close friends. Everyone stepped aside as the bubble passed, heading toward the Champion's Tent before floating toward the stadium.
Kaien and the non-champions sat in the front row, facing the dock from which the Champions would dive. Artoria walked to the judge's booth, and the stadium began to fill with spectators.
Fleur, Viktor, Fred, and Harry appeared on the dock, all wearing the Shiba Clan's colors. Viktor, Fred, and Harry wore swimming trunks, while Fleur was in a one-piece swimsuit. Each held a wand in their right hand and gillyweed in their left.
Mr. Bagman stood up from his seat.
"Good day, everyone," he began. "Mr. Crouch is unfortunately unable to judge today. His assistant, Mr. Percy Weasley, will be stepping in for him for the time being."
The two judges, Madam Maxime, and Professor Karkaroff, glared at Percy.
"Unlike both of you, I will judge the champions in an unbiased manner," Percy said, causing the two judges to turn away.
He then addressed Artoria. "Miss Shiba."
"Mr. Weasley," Artoria responded.
"Well, all our champions are ready for the second task," Mr. Bagman continued. "They have precisely one hour to recover their school's flag. On the count of three. One… two… three!"
The whistle pierced the cold air, and the stands erupted in cheers. The Champions shoved the gillyweed into their mouths, chewed it, and swallowed. Then they quickly dived into the water before the effects of the gillyweed took full effect.
All the champions felt webbing form between their hands and feet, gills appeared by their necks, and their vision adjusted to the underwater environment. They looked at each other and began swimming downward, staying alert. Suddenly, grindylows attacked Fleur. She pointed her wand.
"Diffindo," she mentally cast. The Severing Charm hit one of the grindylows, slicing through it. The others, however, continued to wrap around Fleur's legs.
"Diffindo!" Harry, Fred, and Viktor cast in unison. The Severing Charm freed Fleur from the grindylows' grasp, and they continued swimming down, carefully watching for more dangers. Eventually, they spotted a temple-like structure with four large poles, each bearing a flag. They swam towards the poles, where each champion took their respective flag.
The champions began their ascent to the surface. Soon, all four emerged from the water, holding up their flags. The audience burst into applause. However, the champions quickly dove back into the water, leaving the crowd puzzled.
Kaien stood up and placed his wand to his throat.
"For those who are not aware, all four champions used gillyweed. When swallowed, it grants gills and webbing between their toes and fingers," Kaien began. "The effects last depending on the amount of gillyweed consumed, which should last about an hour and a half," he explained.
He turned to the judge's table. "We can either declare the second task complete and award full points to all champions, or we can sit here and wait for another hour," Kaien said before sitting down.
After a brief discussion, Mr. Bagman stood up.
"Based on the information at hand, the judges have agreed to award full points to all four champions for completing the task in under an hour," Mr. Bagman announced. "The third and final task will take place at dusk on the twenty-fourth of June. The champions will be notified precisely one month in advance. Thank you all for your support of the champions."
The audience erupted in applause as they began to leave the stadium. Artoria gathered the champions' belongings and met Kaien down by the docks. Kaien and his students spent the next hour on the docks, where Kaien started a small campfire to keep them warm as they waited.
Soon, Harry, Fred, Fleur, and Viktor emerged from the lake. Kaien extracted all the water from their clothes and sent it back into the Black Lake. Madam Pomphrey performed a quick medical check-up on each champion. Once finished, Kaien and his students returned to his private quarters to celebrate.
As they approached their portrait, they found Madam Maxime standing outside.
"What can I do for you, Madam Maxime?" Kaien asked.
"I'm here to pick up Miss Delacour, the younger one, from you," she replied.
"Oh? For what reason?" Fleur inquired.
"She needs to go back to Beauxbatons," Madam Maxime said.
"Why? If you got my parents' permission to bring her here, I know they'd allow her to stay for the rest of the weekend," Fleur said. "Unless you illegally took her here," she accused.
"Of course, I have their permission," Madam Maxime stammered.
"Then my parents would have allowed her to spend a few days with her sister before sending her back to Beauxbatons," Fleur insisted. Madam Maxime stood in silence before walking away.
Kaien turned to the portrait. "Excalibur," he said, and the portrait swung open, revealing the living area filled with food and drinks. The party quickly got underway. Fleur gave Gabrielle a quick summary of what had transpired with Madam Maxime. Gabrielle was shocked, to say the least. Fleur showed her several articles from the Daily Prophet, pointing out pictures of Kaien humiliating the other Heads.
Kaien sat back with a butterbeer in hand, watching the students interact. Harry was with Hermione and Daphne. Fleur was with her sister. Luna was showing Viktor some Quibbler articles. Fred and Alicia were talking, while George and Angelina had disappeared upstairs.
"So, just a few more months," Artoria said as she joined him.
"Indeed. We still need to find Tom and have Harry perform the ritual," Kaien replied.
"I could try commanding Tom to show himself," Artoria suggested.
"But would he?" Kaien questioned.
"Well, since he is still a British citizen, the magic of the land would theoretically compel him to appear—if he's still in Britain, or if he hasn't renounced his citizenship," Artoria said.
"Hm... we'll try that once we have a safe location," Kaien said.
"Agreed. When should we tell Harry about the ritual?" Artoria asked.
"Maybe after Tom is fully captured," Kaien said thoughtfully.
"All right then. Where do you want him to meet us?" Artoria asked.
"I was thinking about the location of the locket," Kaien suggested. "It would be a fitting insult, considering he thought his Horcruxes were safe."
Artoria cracked a small smile. "Good idea," she said.
Kaien and Artoria slipped away from the party.
Scene Change: Seaside Cave
Artoria and Kaien appeared above the Seaside Cave.
"We should surround the area with Anti-Portkey and Anti-Apparition wards," Mysteria suggested.
"Sure," Kaien agreed. "Can you help with that?"
"Of course," Mysteria said, appearing beside Kaien. The three of them spent the next ten minutes setting up the temporary wards around the area.
"Mysteria, could you hide some of your more noticeable features?" Kaien asked.
"Fine," Mysteria pouted as her tails, dragon wings, and whiskers disappeared.
Kaien turned to Artoria. "Are you ready?" he asked.
"I am," Artoria replied. She took a deep breath, focusing on the authority she commanded. "I, Artoria Pendragon, King of Britain, order Tom Marvolo Riddle and all those allied with him to appear before me for judgment!"
Magical energy surged around her, and the air seemed to thrum with power. They stood there, waiting.
Scene Change: Nott Manor
Tom Marvolo Riddle, aka Lord Voldemort, stood in the basement of Nott Manor. His solution to the dwindling number of Death Eaters was to create inferi. He had ordered his Death Eaters to desecrate graveyards, stealing bodies to use in his ritual.
Suddenly, a wave of magic washed over him.
"What is this feeling?" Voldemort thought to himself, before quickly recognizing the sensation. "A compulsion?"
He glanced around the basement, confused. "Where did this come from?" The compulsion grew stronger, and before he could stop himself, his feet began to move toward the stairs.
"Grr…" Voldemort snarled as he turned to his inferi army. "Follow me," he commanded, and the inferi followed obediently behind him.
He climbed the stairs to join his remaining Death Eaters.
"My Lord," one of them greeted him.
"Follow me," Voldemort growled. He and his army apparated away.
Scene Change: Hogwarts: Snape's Office
Professor Snape sat at his desk, grading potion assignments. Suddenly, a wave of magic washed over him. He quickly summoned his wand and pointed it around the room.
"Who cast that compulsion?" he thought.
"Homenum Revelio," he cast, trying to detect the source of the magic. The spell revealed no one in his office. But the compulsion's effect grew stronger. With a growl, Snape was forced to stand and walk toward his private floo. He grabbed the floo powder and threw it into the fireplace, stepping in.
"Three Broomsticks," he said and was swiftly teleported from his office. He exited the Three Broomsticks and apparated away, following the compulsion.
Scene Change: Hogwarts: Moody's Office
Bartemius 'Barty' Crouch Jr. sat in his office, still polyjuiced as Alastor Moody. He watched his father, Bartemius Crouch Sr., under the Imperius Curse, write instructions for his staff. Suddenly, a wave of magic hit him. Barty paused, shifting his attention from his father.
"Who cast that spell on me?" he thought. He checked the room, ensuring he was alone. The compulsion's grip on him grew stronger.
"Grr." He banished his father into the trunk and limped to his private floo. Grabbing the floo powder, he threw it into the fireplace. He stepped in.
"Leaky Cauldron," he muttered as he was teleported. He exited the Leaky Cauldron and apparated away, following the compulsion.
Unbeknownst to Barty Crouch Jr., he had forgotten to drink his flask of Polyjuice potion. The sudden movement freed Crouch Sr. from the Imperius Curse. Slowly, he recovered from the spell and noticed the drugged, weakened Alastor Moody. Many other Death Eaters, those who had abandoned Voldemort, those still undercover, and those without the Dark Mark, were also compelled to apparate away.
Scene Change: Seaside Cave
Kaien, Artoria, and Mysteria didn't have to wait long. Voldemort and his allies appeared in a swirl of black smoke. Voldemort was surprised by the number of his followers who had shown up—many he had thought had abandoned him, like Karkaroff. Others were spies. Even former prisoners of Azkaban were present.
"Seems like the command worked," Kaien remarked. They turned to see Kaien and Artoria standing. Mysteria was hidden in the bushes, ensuring the wards remained intact.
"Shibas," Severus and the polyjuiced Crouch Jr. muttered in unison.
"So, you must be Kaien Shiba," Voldemort said. "The one who killed so many of my Death Eaters."
"I am," Kaien replied.
"Prepare to die." Voldemort raised his wand. "Avada Kedavra!" A flash of green light shot toward Kaien. He stood still, letting the spell hit him.
The Death Eaters celebrated, sure that Kaien had been killed. Their celebration was short-lived.
"Was that it?" Kaien asked. Voldemort and the Death Eaters turned in shock to see Kaien still standing, alive.
"How?! You didn't dodge the spell," Voldemort demanded.
Kaien smiled, purposely ignoring Voldemort's question. Artoria stepped in front of Kaien.
"Tom Marvolo Riddle, also known as Lord Voldemort," Artoria began. "Your actions against both magical and non-magical Britain are unforgivable. Today, you and your followers will all face justice for your treasonous crimes."
Voldemort and the Death Eaters laughed derisively.
"Please. A little girl against me and my army of inferi and Death Eaters?" Voldemort sneered.
"Who said I was alone?" Artoria replied, summoning her flagpole. The flag unfurled and began to glow.
[Music: Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua OST - Mighty Wind]
"My name is Artoria Pendragon, the Once and Future King of Britain," she declared. "And a King is never alone… especially in her own country!" She slammed the flagpole into the ground, releasing a blinding black light.
When the light faded, everyone blinked and found themselves standing in an empty plain, surrounded by green grass and a calming blue sky. In the distance, they heard the sound of heavy footsteps. Turning, they saw a large army of knights approaching. Some carried flags similar to Artoria's. Leading them were nine knights in unique armor. Kaien recognized these knights.
The army halted, forming up behind her.
"These are the knights who swore an oath of loyalty to me, even in death. Even beyond time. They answer my call—Knights of the Round Table!" Artoria declared.
"Gr… Attack them!" Voldemort ordered. The Death Eaters began to fire curses at the knights.
"My knights… end these terrorists," Artoria commanded.
"Charge!" Mordred shouted. The knights charged at the Death Eaters, dodging spells or blocking them with their swords. Artoria charged in, engaging Voldemort directly. She swung Excalibur, pushing Voldemort on the defensive. Voldemort struggled to find an opening. Thanks to Kyōka's aid, Artoria was already familiar with many of Voldemort's strategies.
Voldemort pointed his wand at the ground. "Depulso!" he cast, sending himself flying toward his remaining Death Eaters. Meanwhile, the knights easily destroyed his inferi.
"Fienfyre!" Voldemort shouted, and the remaining Death Eaters cast Fienfyre from their wands. The Hellfire took the shape of giant snakes, racing toward Artoria.
She stood still, allowing the fire to approach. Just before it could hit, the flames froze.
Voldemort and the Death Eaters were confused. "Attack those who summoned you here!" Kaien commanded. The Hellfire shifted direction, charging at the Death Eaters.
"Depulso!" Voldemort cast again, trying to send his followers away from the fire, but it was too late. The fire consumed them.
"GAHAHAHAH!" The remaining Death Eaters screamed as they were devoured by the Hellfire.
Soon, Voldemort was the last one standing.
"Surround us," Kaien ordered. The Hellfire formed a ring around them.
"This is the end, Tom," Artoria declared.
"My name is Voldemort!" Voldemort shouted.
"It doesn't matter what you call yourself. Today, you die," Kaien said.
"Fool! I will never die!" Voldemort screamed.
"You don't realize where we are, do you?" Kaien asked.
Voldemort turned to look around, and the realization hit him.
"No… NO!" Voldemort yelled.
"Yes. We know about the Horcruxes and all of them are destroyed."
"Impossible!" Voldemort yelled. Artoria charged toward him and swiftly decapitated him. His blackened soul poured out of the dead body.
"I'm still here. That means one of my Horcruxes is still intact," Voldemort thought.
"You're still here, but it's not because of your Horcruxes," Kaien said. Voldemort looked down and noticed a rusty chain on his chest.
"My Lord," Voldemort turned around to see his dead Death Eaters floating beside him. Kaien released the remaining soul fragments, and they all appeared alongside Voldemort, each bearing the same rusty chain on their chest.
"Tom Marvolo Riddle, and those who allied themselves with his cause, for the crimes you committed while alive, I sentence all of you to Hell to suffer for your deeds," Kaien declared. The Hellfire wrapped around them.
"GAHAHAH!" They all screamed in agony as their souls were incinerated and painfully sent to Hell. Kaien and Artoria stared at the bloody field, Artoria closing the Reality Marble. They all returned to the seaside. Once done, they returned to Hogwarts.
Time Skip: June 17th, 1995
The next four months were chaotic for the British citizens. News spread quickly about the missing or dead conservative wizards and witches. Amelia Bones was forced to announce that all Death Eaters in Azkaban had also disappeared. Some mourned their loss, while others celebrated their deaths. Many Slytherins who had once bullied other students went quiet. Speculation ran rampant. With Professor Snape's sudden disappearance, Professor Dumbledore was forced to take over Potions. The appearance of Crouch Sr. and the drugged Alastor Moody was kept secret from the students. The official story was that Moody had been called upon by the DMLE to investigate the disappearance of former Death Eaters.
To replace Alastor Moody, Professor Dumbledore had to cancel classes temporarily until a new professor could be found. The only applicant was Sirius Black, and he was forced to hire him for the position. Kaien spent the next few months helping his students prepare for their exams, ensuring the champion knew as much as possible.
Kaien hosted a meeting with the champions in his private room.
"Today, all the champions are banned from the library, the training grounds, or any activities directly related to the Third Task," Kaien said.
"What!?" Harry, Viktor, Fleur, and Fred shouted in unison.
"The reason is simple. I want all of you to enjoy the friendships we've made and take a break. After the Closing Ceremony, you'll all be heading home quickly. There won't be much time to spend with each other," Kaien explained. The champions nodded, realizing Kaien's point.
"There's one more thing," Kaien continued. "You won't hear anything from me or Artoria for a long time."
The couples began discussing amongst themselves, trying to figure out what to do next. Kaien, deciding to confront Fleur about her feelings, walked toward her.
"Follow me," he said quietly. Fleur nodded and followed him upstairs. Kaien cast a privacy bubble around them.
"Fleur, I know you have feelings for me," Kaien said. Fleur blushed slightly.
"Was I that obvious?" Fleur asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice. Kaien cracked a small smile. "Is this where you tell me you accept my feelings, and we live happily ever after?"
Kaien sighed. "It all depends on you," he said. "Artoria and I are not from this time," he admitted.
"What?" Fleur's eyes widened in surprise.
"We were sent back in time to correct a mistake. We've been given a year to do so."
"And you two managed to correct the mistake?" Fleur asked.
"Correct."
"I see…" Fleur whispered. Kaien hugged her, surprising her.
"Fleur, I want you to move forward," Kaien said softly. "Live your life without regret. If you find someone you love, and they love you back, then go for it."
"But what if I don't, and I still want you?" Fleur asked.
"Then become the greatest witch you can," Artoria said, stepping into the conversation. Fleur turned to see Artoria standing there.
"If you choose to pursue this path, then know this: I will be there at the end. I will judge if you are worthy of an opportunity for Kaien's love," Artoria declared.
Kaien noticed the fire and passion beginning to burn in Fleur's eyes.
"I accept that challenge," Fleur said with determination.
"In that case, this may help you on your journey," Kaien said, handing her a pouch of galleons.
"Huh?" Fleur asked, surprised.
"Your parents may not approve of your decision to go on this journey. This should help you get started," Kaien explained. Fleur hesitated, then cautiously took the pouch from him.
"Best doesn't just mean the most powerful," Artoria added. "It means being the most financially independent, smartest, skilled—just to name a few things."
"I see…" Fleur said.
"Good luck, Fleur," Kaien said as he turned to leave the room. Artoria quickly followed behind him.
Time Skip: June 21st, 1995
Viktor and Luna decided to camp in the Forbidden Forest. Viktor wanted to show Luna a few survival skills he'd learned at Durmstrang. Fred and George shared their dream of opening a joke shop with Angelina and Alicia. The girls could see how much the dream meant to Fred and George, so they decided to help them pursue it. Fleur spent her time reading a few books about traveling. Harry invited Hermione and Daphne to attend a Wizengamot meeting. They accepted and left early that morning. When they returned, Kaien immediately pulled them aside for a private meeting.
"So, Kaien-sensei, what's going on?" Harry asked.
"Have you heard of the Deathly Hallows?" Kaien asked.
"The what?" Harry and Hermione asked in confusion. Daphne turned to them.
"The Deathly Hallows? It's one of the fairy tales in The Tales of Beedle the Bard," she explained.
"Daphne, if you don't mind, could you tell them the story?" Kaien asked.
"I don't remember the entire story," Daphne admitted.
"That's fine, I have the book here," Kaien said as he pulled it out and handed it to her. Daphne took the book and began to read aloud.
"There were once three brothers who were traveling along a lonely, winding road at twilight. In time, the brothers reached a river too deep to wade through and too dangerous to swim across. However, these brothers were skilled in the magical arts, so they waved their wands and made a bridge appear across the treacherous water. Halfway across, they found their path blocked by a hooded figure.
'And Death spoke to them—'"
"Sorry," interjected Harry, "but Death spoke to them?"
"It's a fairy tale, Harry!" Daphne said.
"Right, sorry. Go on." Harry apologized.
"'And Death spoke to them. He was angry that he had been cheated out of three new victims, for travelers usually drowned in the river. But Death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the three brothers upon their magic and said that each had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him.'
'So, the oldest brother, who was a combative man, asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence: a wand that must always win duels for its owner, a wand worthy of a wizard who had conquered Death! So, Death crossed to an elder tree on the banks of the river, fashioned a wand from a branch that hung there, and gave it to the oldest brother.'
'Then the second brother, who was an arrogant man, decided that he wanted to humiliate Death still further, and asked for the power to recall others from Death. So, Death picked up a stone from the riverbank and gave it to the second brother, telling him that the stone would have the power to bring back the dead.'
'And then Death asked the third and youngest brother what he would like. The youngest brother was the humblest and also the wisest of the brothers, and he did not trust Death. So he asked for something that would enable him to go forth from that place without being followed by Death. And Death, most unwillingly, handed over his Cloak of Invisibility.'"
"Death's got an Invisibility Cloak?" Harry interrupted again. Hermione and Daphne glared at him.
"Sorry, Daphne."
"'Then Death stood aside and allowed the three brothers to continue on their way, and they did so, talking with wonder of the adventure they had had, and admiring Death's gifts. In due course, the brothers separated, each for his own destination.'
'The first brother traveled on for a week or more, and reaching a distant village, sought out a fellow wizard with whom he had a quarrel. Naturally, with the Elder Wand as his weapon, he could not fail to win the duel that followed. Leaving his enemy dead on the floor, the oldest brother proceeded to an inn, where he boasted loudly of the powerful wand he had snatched from Death himself, and of how it made him invincible. That very night, another wizard crept upon the oldest brother as he lay, wine-sodden, upon his bed. The thief took the wand and, for good measure, slit the oldest brother's throat. And so, Death took the first brother for his own.'
'Meanwhile, the second brother journeyed to his own home, where he lived alone. Here he took out the stone that had the power to recall the dead and turned it thrice in his hand. To his amazement and delight, the figure of the girl he had once hoped to marry, before her untimely death, appeared at once before him. Yet she was sad and cold, separated from him as by the veil of death. Though she had returned to the mortal world, she did not truly belong there and suffered. Finally, the second brother, driven mad with hopeless longing, killed himself so as truly to join her. And so, Death took the second brother for his own.'
'But though Death searched for the third brother for many years, he was never able to find him. It was only when he had attained a great age that the youngest brother finally took off the Cloak of Invisibility and gave it to his son. And then he greeted Death as an old friend, and went with him gladly, and, equals, they departed this life.'"
"So, what does this story have to do with us?" Harry asked. Hermione's eyes widened.
"Harry, didn't Sirius mention that your father had his invisibility cloak when he was in Hogwarts?"
"He did," Harry said.
"Harry, the enchantments on an invisibility cloak normally go away in a few years. They don't last that long," Daphne said.
"So, you're saying that my invisibility cloak is actually the Cloak that Death gave to the Peverell Brothers?" Harry said.
"Indeed," Kaien answered. "But that is not the truth of what happened," Kaien said. "Antioch, Cadmus, and Ignotus did exist, but that isn't how the Deathly Hallows became a thing." Kaien paused. "Antioch was the oldest of the three brothers. His passion was dueling. He would constantly duel against other wizards. He was soon known as Antioch the Unbeatable. He loved the sensation of dominating his opponent, making the audience stare at him in shock and awe of his power. In one of his duels, Antioch almost lost to a wizard. This near defeat drove Antioch crazy. He desired more power so that he never had to taste defeat. Then he reunited with Cadmus."
Kaien paused again.
"Cadmus loved the witch he was engaged to. Before they could marry, Cadmus's fiancé was killed in an attack by Muggles. In his rage, he killed all the Muggles in the nearby villages. After his vengeance was satisfied, grief and depression took over. Those feelings inspired an insane plan to bring his beloved fiancé back from the dead. He decided to create a ritual to call back the dead. He discovered that only Death has the power to call forth the souls of the dead. So, he decided to summon Death and take its power for himself.
When Antioch heard of his younger brother's plan, he realized the opportunity to gain more power. So, Antioch and Cadmus began to work together to create a ritual to summon Death and steal its powers. After five years, Antioch and Cadmus managed to perfect their ritual. However, the ritual required three people to perform it.
Ignotus was the youngest of the three brothers. Despite being the youngest, he was much smarter than his older brothers and he cared more about his family. He never had any desire for power. All he desired was to live peacefully with his family. That life came crashing down because of Antioch and Cadmus. They went to Ignotus's home and told him their plans and why they needed him. Ignotus told his older brothers that he didn't want anything to do with their plan. Antioch and Cadmus didn't like Ignotus's response. They threatened to kill his family if Ignotus didn't comply with their demand. With a heavy heart, Ignotus joined them to perform the ritual.
The ritual managed to summon Ankou, a Celtic God of Death. The ritual began to seal Ankou away. The ritual drained Ankou's powers and transferred them to the three brothers. Antioch focused the power into his wand, making it much more powerful. Cadmus focused the power into his stone on his engagement ring, allowing it to call back the souls of the dead. Ignotus focused the power into his cloak, gaining the ability to hide from his brothers and anyone with ill intentions toward him. As soon as the ritual was done, Ignotus used his cloak to disappear from his brothers.
Years later, Ignotus discovered the ramifications of their ritual. As the sole remaining heir of the Peverell family, he inherited Cadmus's research. So, he began to look into a ritual to free Ankou. He managed to complete the ritual to free Ankou, but he couldn't do it because the wand and ring were lost. So, he locked the information in his vault in Gringotts and sealed the Peverell vault. To unseal the vault, the heir must present all three artifacts to the vault. The Peverell magic will unlock the vault and allow the heir to complete the ritual." Kaien said.
"H-how do you know this?" Harry asked.
Kaien sighed. "Artoria and I were from the future, where you didn't set Ankou free," Kaien said.
"I see…" Harry said.
"We need to find the wand and the ring," Hermione said. Kaien smiled.
"Already ahead of you," Kaien said as he summoned the wand and the ring from his mindscape.
"Is that…?"
"Yes. The Elder Wand and the Resurrection Stone," Kaien answered.
"So we need to go to Gringotts," Harry said.
"Yep," Kaien said, standing up. "Let's go."
Scene Change: Ragnok's Office
Ragnok sat at his desk, flipping through pages of paperwork.
"Why are there so many stupid pages of paperwork?" he mentally groaned. "Can I get some entertainment to relieve myself of this boredom?" Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door.
"Come in," Ragnok said, and the door opened as Kaien and Harry entered.
"May the blood of your enemies run the rivers red," Kaien greeted.
"May your enemies fear your blade," Ragnok replied. "So, Mister Shiba, what can I do for you?"
"I need to go to the Peverell Vault," Kaien said. Ragnok burst into laughter.
"Going to the Peverell Vault? Going to the Peverell Vault?" Ragnok laughed heartily.
"Ragnok, I'm serious," Kaien said, his tone firm. This stopped Ragnok's laughter.
"Many wizards and witches have tried to unseal the Peverell Vaults," Ragnok said, his face growing serious. "All of them are dead."
"I know that," Harry said. Ragnok turned to him, skeptical.
"But unlike them," Harry continued, "I have the means to properly unseal it." Ragnok looked at Kaien, who nodded. With a grunt, Ragnok stood up.
"Come on, follow me. Get ready for a long cart ride," Ragnok said. The trio walked to the mine carts. As they sped deeper and deeper into the mountain, it took them ten minutes before they reached the end of the tracks.
"This is Vault 1, the Peverell Vault," Ragnok said. Harry, cloaked in the Cloak of Invisibility, held the Elder Wand in his left hand and the Resurrection Stone in his right.
"I am Harry Potter, descendent of Ignotus Peverell, master of the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility," Harry declared. "I order the Peverell Vault to unseal itself so I can finish the task Ignotus Peverell started."
The vault glowed white before opening. Inside, Harry found a letter. He picked it up and read it aloud.
"Dear descendent,
If you are reading this, then you have collected all three artifacts. The next step is to follow the instructions below.
Good luck, my descendant.
- Lord Ignotus Peverell"
Harry turned to Ragnok. "Am I able to perform a ritual down here?"
"You should be able to," Ragnok replied. Kaien helped Harry set up the ritual circle. The Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Cloak of Invisibility were placed in their correct spots. Harry stood outside the circle and cut his hand, letting his blood fall into the center. The circle began to glow white.
"I am Harry Potter, descendent of Ignotus Peverell and master of the Elder Wand," he said, his voice steady. "I sacrifice the Elder Wand to unseal Ankou, the God of Death, from his imprisonment." The Elder Wand glowed blue before snapping in half.
"I am Harry Potter, descendent of Ignotus Peverell and master of the Resurrection Stone," he continued. "I sacrifice the Resurrection Stone to unseal Ankou, the God of Death, from his imprisonment." The Resurrection Stone glowed blue before splitting into two pieces.
Harry's gaze lingered on the Cloak of Invisibility, memories of its past help flashing through his mind. "I am Harry Potter, descendent of Ignotus Peverell and master of the Cloak of Invisibility. I sacrifice the Cloak of Invisibility to unseal Ankou, the God of Death, from his imprisonment." The Cloak glowed blue before turning to dust.
"With the powers returned, Ankou, allow this God to return!" Harry shouted. The seal glowed blue as a skeletal figure rose from the ritual circle, draped in a cloak and wielding a scythe.
"FINALLY!" Ankou cried. "After thousands of years, I'm free!" He turned to Harry. "Thank you, Mr. Potter, for freeing me."
"Um… no problem?" Harry said, unsure of how to respond to a god.
"Allow me to give you something," Ankou said as he tore something off his cloak. Harry's eyes widened.
"Wait… are you…?"
"Indeed." Ankou handed Harry another Cloak of Invisibility. "This one is special. I've bound it to the Peverell magic dormant in you. Only those with the Peverell magic and your permission may use the Cloak at its full power," Ankou explained.
"Thank you," Harry said. Ankou turned to Kaien.
"What is a Shi-" Ankou began, but Kaien quickly covered his mouth.
"Don't reveal that," Kaien warned, moving his hand away. "I have a letter from Mórrígan."
"I see…" Ankou said, taking the letter. "I need to check in with my people." He vanished from the vault in a flash. Harry and Kaien left as well.
"Please don't mention anything you saw in there," Kaien asked.
Ragnok sighed. "Very well. I saw nothing."
Time Skip
The next three days passed peacefully. Mr. Bagman revealed that the Third Task would be a maze. Since all four champions had the same score, they would enter the maze from different sides and race to reach the middle. The families of the champions gathered before the task began. Kaien met with Sebastian and his wife, Apolline Delacour, while Gabrielle eagerly greeted him. He then met with the Weasley family.
"You!" a woman exclaimed. Behind her was Arthur Weasley.
"You must be Molly Weasley," Kaien said with a smile. "You must be proud of Fred for making it this far in the tournament."
"It's your fault he's in the tournament in the first place," Molly retorted.
"Mum," Fred and George said in unison, stepping in front of Kaien.
"For the last time, we both wanted to enter the tournament," Fred said.
"And Kaien-sensei gave us the chance to put our names in," George added.
"Fred, George," Kaien interjected, his tone calm. They turned to him. "She's your mother. She's just worried about your safety. She wants to see you both succeed in life."
"I see…" Fred and George said, feeling a little guilty. Before they could continue, Mr. Bagman called out.
"Champions!" he shouted. Harry and Fred walked over to him, with Victor and Fleur following.
"We're going to start the Third Task very soon," Bagman said. The champions nodded, and their families made their way to the stands. The champions headed out to the field, Kaien joining Hermione and Daphne. They sat between the Weasley and Delacour families.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin!" Mr. Bagman announced. All four champions entered together, a display of unity. Fred, Fleur, and Victor were sent to the opposite sides of the maze.
"So… on my whistle, all four champions will enter the maze," Bagman said. "Three… two… one…" He blew his whistle, and the champions rushed into the maze as towering hedges opened before them.
Kaien chuckled as Harry and Fred somehow met each other in the maze. Instead of fighting, they joined forces. Fleur and Victor, too, allied with one another. Eventually, all four champions met in the center, staring at the Triwizard Cup. The audience watched eagerly to see who would claim it. Kaien smirked, knowing what was about to happen. As expected, all four champions grabbed a handle of the Triwizard Cup.
They were all teleported to the stage, still holding the Triwizard Cup. The crowd stood in confusion. Kaien stood up and clapped, and Artoria, from the judge's booth, joined in. Soon, the rest of the crowd followed, clapping and cheering. The award ceremony unfolded with an unusual twist. The judges decided to split the prize money among the champions but were unsure what to do with the Triwizard Cup. The champions had a different idea in mind.
All four raised their wands and cast an Amplifying Charm.
"If we could have your attention, please!" the four champions called out, their voices booming across the stadium. The crowd quickly fell silent.
"All four of us wish to recognize someone," Fleur began.
"For his efforts to help us," Fred added.
"Throughout the entire tournament," Harry continued.
"Despite not being from his school," Victor said.
"So, Kaien Shiba, from the Shiba Academy of Mystical Arts, can you please come to the stage?" they all said together.
Kaien smiled, stood up, and shunpō'ed to the stage. His sudden appearance startled the audience.
"We all agreed to present you with the Triwizard Cup for constantly fostering international relations when others failed to do so," Fleur said. They handed the Triwizard Cup to Kaien. Kaien lifted it high, and Artoria, along with all his students, clapped. Slowly, the rest of the audience joined in, including Professor Dumbledore and Madame Maxime, who were forced to join in.
"I-I need to confront them," Dumbledore thought. He walked toward the champions.
"Mister and Miss Shiba," Dumbledore said.
"Hello, Professor Dumbledore. What can we do for you?" Kaien asked.
"I need to see you in my office before you two go," Dumbledore said.
"Sure," Kaien replied. He and Artoria followed Dumbledore to his office.
"About time he'd confront us," Kaien thought.
"I agree. It's been a few months since he lost control of the castle," Artoria replied.
They arrived at the gargoyle statue, which moved aside to allow them entry. Inside, they sat down.
"So, what can we do for you?" Kaien asked.
"Stop with the act, Dark Lords," Dumbledore said.
"We are not Dark Lords," Kaien replied calmly.
"You are! Only Dark Lords could command Fiendfyre like that. Not only that, but the other headmasters and I had trouble handling you," Dumbledore insisted.
"While it is true that we are significantly stronger than all of you combined, we are not Dark Lords," Artoria said.
"We were sent by a being of a higher power to fix your meddling," Kaien admitted.
"Preposterous," Dumbledore said, but Kaien shrugged.
"That's fine if you don't believe us," Kaien said, turning away from Dumbledore and heading for the door.
"You will not leave!" Dumbledore shouted, drawing his wand. He cast a Stupefy spell, but the spell stopped in midair as if trapped in an invisible bubble.
"What?" Dumbledore stared in confusion.
"You dare try to attack Kaien with his back turned?" Artoria said, glaring at Dumbledore. She flicked her wand, and Dumbledore's spell backfired, sending him crashing into the wall. The wall seemed to turn liquid, sucking Dumbledore's limbs into it before solidifying again. All the portraits of previous Headmasters and Headmistresses watched in shock.
"This castle…" Artoria started, staring at the only still portrait in the office. "This castle knows the truth. Before it became Hogwarts… before it became Haugh's Wards," Artoria said. Everyone except Kaien was confused by her words.
"Why, that's preposterous," one of the portraits stammered.
"According to history, a magical architect helped the Founders design the castle," another portrait added.
"Fools," Artoria sneered. "Those were lies the Founders spread to explain the existence of the castle. They were the only ones who knew the truth about it—a truth that would tear this country apart. A truth that would see everyone try and destroy this castle," Artoria said. The portraits and Dumbledore were unsure how to respond to her words.
"W-what's the truth of this castle?" Dumbledore asked. The other portraits leaned forward, eager to know.
Artoria smirked.
"Well… if you insist," she said. "Allow me to reintroduce myself." Everyone could feel the magic swirling around her. "I am Artoria Pendragon, King of Knights and Once and Future King of Britannia. Bow before me."
The magic surged, and everyone—except for Kaien—was forced to their knees, bowing before her. Even the portraits, which had always been immune to such magic, obeyed.
"How? My Occlumency barriers were active. I can resist the Imperius Curse. Why did I obey her orders?" Dumbledore thought, shocked by his involuntary submission.
"All of you obeyed my order because the Magic of Britannia still recognizes me as its King," Artoria said. "As long as my castle still stands, I will remain the True King of this land." Dumbledore and the portraits all understood which castle she referred to.
"Your Majesty," Dumbledore began.
Artoria turned to him, her expression unreadable. "Speak, Dumbledore."
"So, Hogwarts used to be the fabled castle, Camelot?"
"Indeed," Artoria replied. She turned to address Dumbledore and the portraits. "I, Artoria Pendragon, order that all information discussed in this room be classified as Imperial Secret Information. No one is allowed to reveal anything mentioned without my permission."
Their magic bound this decree, ensuring that none of them could share the truth. Dumbledore's eyes widened as he realized how Artoria could compel them—she controlled their very magic.
"Dumbledore, follow me," Artoria ordered.
The portrait depicting Camelot on a grassy plain swung open, revealing a hidden passage. Kaien, Artoria, and Dumbledore entered the secret corridor. They walked down the hall until they arrived at a giant Hogwarts Coat of Arms. Artoria approached it, and it began to glow, causing the four house crests to separate and reveal another hidden passage.
They walked down the new path, reaching a large stone pillar radiating powerful magic. Artoria turned to Dumbledore.
"Repeat after me," Artoria said. "I, state your full name."
"I, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore," Dumbledore replied.
"Swear upon the magic that flows in my body to take charge of my post as the Wardkeeper of Camelot," Artoria instructed.
"Swear upon the magic that flows in my body to take charge of my post as the Wardkeeper of Camelot," Dumbledore repeated.
"I swear to safeguard this castle and all residents of this castle. I swear to properly and correctly maintain the Wards of Camelot," Artoria said.
"I swear to safeguard this castle and all residents of this castle. I swear to properly and correctly maintain the Wards of Camelot," Dumbledore repeated.
"I swear to teach the next Wardkeeper of Camelot the correct and proper methods to maintain the Wards of Camelot," Artoria continued.
"I swear to teach the next Wardkeeper of Camelot the correct and proper methods to maintain the Wards of Camelot," Dumbledore repeated.
"I swear that my first priority is to the Wards and residents of Camelot," Artoria declared.
"I swear that my first priority is to the Wards and residents of Camelot," Dumbledore repeated.
"I swear to never reveal the secrets of the Wards of Camelot, the secrets of King Pendragon, or Camelot," Artoria said.
"I swear to never reveal the secrets of the Wards of Camelot, the secrets of King Pendragon, or Camelot," Dumbledore repeated.
"May the magic that flows through my body, through Camelot, through the Wards of Camelot, and the land around us, cast judgment upon me for breaking my oath," Artoria finished.
"May the magic that flows through my body, through Camelot, through the Wards of Camelot, and the land around us, cast judgment upon me for breaking my oath," Dumbledore echoed. The magic around them surged and wrapped itself around Dumbledore, binding him to the oath.
Kaien glanced at his watch.
"Artoria, it's time to leave," Kaien said.
"Thank you, Kaien." Artoria turned to Dumbledore.
"I will remember the oath, Your Majesty," Dumbledore said. With that, Kaien and Artoria left the secret chamber.
Kaien and Artoria exited and saw the other foreign students heading to their respective vehicles. They joined the Hogwarts students on the Hogwarts Express, where they joined in various games, ranging from Wizard Chess to cards.
After a few long hours, they arrived at King's Cross Station. Many of the Hogwarts students bid farewell to Kaien and Artoria, who returned the gesture before crossing the brick barrier and returning to London.
Kaien turned to Harry and Hermione.
"We'll see each other someday," Kaien said.
"Bye, Kaien-sensei. Bye, Artoria-sensei," they replied.
Kaien and Artoria summoned the Knight Bus, which took them to Diagon Alley. Kaien visited Ragnok one last time, instructing him to send a letter to his students in twelve years to meet there. Ragnok nodded, jotting the note down on his calendar.
Kaien and Artoria founded the International Travel Shop, specializing in the creation of International Portkeys.
"Hello?" Kaien said as he entered the shop.
"Ah, good afternoon," the shopkeeper greeted. "What can I do for you?"
"I was wondering if you have any Portkeys to Japan?" Kaien asked.
"Hm…" The shopkeeper flipped through a small book.
"Seven galleons," he said.
Kaien handed over seven galleons, which the shopkeeper placed in a drawer.
"One moment," the shopkeeper added. Kaien and Artoria waited patiently as the shopkeeper returned with a small talisman.
"It will be ready to go in a minute," he said.
Kaien and Artoria took the talisman. Soon, the Portkey activated, and they were gone.
Scene Change: Shisō, Hyōgo
[Back to Japanese]
Kaien and Artoria arrived at Banzai Bazaar.
"Welcome to Japan," greeted an Auror.
"Hello," Kaien replied, handing over their paperwork. The Auror took it and examined the documents.
"Hm... Everything seems in order," the Auror said, stamping the papers and allowing them to continue.
Kaien and Artoria were soon greeted by a small kitsune.
"Let me guess, you wish to take us to Amaterasu?" Kaien asked.
The kitsune nodded.
"Okay, we'll follow you," Kaien said.
The kitsune led them down an empty alleyway. Once they were out of sight, its lower body burst into orange-red flames that began to encircle Kaien and Artoria. Within moments, they were teleported away.
Scene Change: Amaterasu's Private Shrine
Kaien and Artoria emerged from the orange-red flames to find themselves in a serene shrine. Sitting in front of them was Amaterasu.
"Hello, Kaien Shiba and Artoria Shiba," she greeted.
"Amaterasu-sama," they both replied respectfully.
"Sit with me," she invited. Kaien and Artoria sat down in front of her.
"It seems you've completed your mission," Amaterasu noted.
"Indeed," Kaien responded. He pulled out a small pouch and placed it on the table. "This is all the money we used, with 5% interest," he explained. Amaterasu accepted the pouch.
"So, you'll return to your time now?" she asked.
"Yes, please," Kaien said.
"Very well. Please wait in one of these rooms while I prepare for the ritual," Amaterasu said, disappearing in a swirl of flames.
Kaien and Artoria stood and walked toward the hallway she had indicated. Kaien grabbed the door handle of the first room and opened it. He was startled to see Ichigo Kurosaki inside, appearing as if he were asleep. As Kaien moved to touch Ichigo, he encountered an invisible barrier.
Footsteps echoed in the hallway, and Kaien quickly shut the door. They found another empty room.
"What was that?" Artoria asked.
"I'm not sure," Kaien replied.
Amaterasu soon entered the room.
"Are you two ready?" she asked.
"We are," Kaien said.
She handed him a small mask.
"This is a mask to conceal your identity, as you came here under a different name," Amaterasu explained.
"I see," Kaien said, placing the mask on.
"Now, are both of you ready?" she asked.
"We are," Kaien confirmed.
Amaterasu began chanting in a language neither of them recognized. The orange-red fire surrounded them, and soon everything went black.
