Chapter 62:
Scene Change: Kanto: Pallet Town: Professor Oak's Lab
Ichigo opened his eyes and found himself lying in a bed, still dressed in the same casual clothes from earlier. Looking out the window, he saw a few Pidgeys chirping outside. Ichigo stretched before noticing a map on the wall—it appeared to be a map of the Kanto and Johto regions.
"Looks like the regions are designed based on the video games," Ichigo thought as he walked out of his room. He headed downstairs and found Professor Oak sitting at the table, reading the newspaper.
"Morning, Professor," Ichigo greeted.
"Ah, good morning, Ichigo," Professor Oak replied.
"So, what will we be doing today?" Ichigo asked.
"Unfortunately, I have a package to pick up at the Viridian City Poké Mart. I'll be gone for a day or two," Professor Oak explained.
"Do you need me to come with you?" Ichigo asked.
"No need. These old bones can handle it," Professor Oak said with a grin. "Besides, I've got my trusty Arcanine (1) with me."
"Okay," Ichigo responded. Professor Oak folded up his newspaper and stood up. He walked outside to the ranch where a large collection of Pokémon roamed freely. The majority of them were Pokémon from other trainers who allowed Professor Oak to study them, gifts from other trainers, or Pokémon from his sponsored trainers. Only a few were from his own training days.
Professor Oak let out a loud whistle. A moment later, a large red and orange canine shot out from the ranch, running towards the porch. It was his trusty Arcanine.
"Ready to go with me on an errand?" Professor Oak asked. Arcanine responded with a lick to his face. Professor Oak chuckled and pulled out a Poké Ball, pointing it at Arcanine. "Return." A red beam shot from the Poké Ball and pulled Arcanine inside. Professor Oak minimized the Poké Ball and slipped it into his pocket. "See you later, Ichigo," he said as he walked away.
Ichigo stood, thinking to himself.
"Hm… what should I do?" Ichigo thought.
"Maybe get a feel for the land," Zangetsu suggested.
"Sure," Ichigo agreed. He went back to his room, changed into a set of running clothes, and left the lab. Jogging through Pallet Town, Ichigo waved back at some of the older residents who greeted him.
As he neared the border between Route 1 and Pallet Town, he felt something calling to him.
"Help," a voice called out mentally. Ichigo stopped.
"What was that?" Ichigo thought.
"Someone is trying to reach you through telepathy," Mysteria said.
"Help," the voice repeated.
"Let's see what's going on," Ichigo decided, following his instincts into Route 1. He easily dodged the wild Pokémon as he made his way down the grassy path.
Eventually, he arrived at a clearing and found an injured Pokémon, holding two bags filled with Pokémon Eggs. The Pokémon appeared to be a feminine, bipedal creature, resembling a flowing gown. Its body was mostly white, but its hair, arms, and the underside of its gown were green. Blood and bruises covered its body.
"Did you call for me?" Ichigo asked.
"I did," the Pokémon replied, handing Ichigo the bags. "Keep them safe from them."
"Who are 'them'?" Ichigo asked, accepting the bags and peering inside to see the Pokémon Eggs.
"Go. They're coming," the Pokémon urged, its voice strained. "GO!"
As Ichigo hesitated, the Pokémon raised its hands, and Ichigo briefly glowed blue before vanishing from sight. The Pokémon smiled weakly before collapsing from its wounds.
The rustling bushes revealed two figures dressed in black uniforms with a red "R" emblazoned on them, along with black caps, gray gloves, and boots.
"Damn, we lost the eggs," one grunt muttered.
"She must've given them to someone," the other theorized.
"Executive Ariana. Please come in," one of the grunts said into a radio.
"What is it?" a voice responded.
"We found the escapee, but she managed to give the eggs to someone else," the grunt reported.
"DAMN IT!" the voice screamed. After a moment, it added, "Grab the dead Pokémon and return to the van. We still need to finish the delivery of the other Pokémon."
"Yes, ma'am," the grunts replied, taking the fallen Pokémon and retreating.
Scene Change: Pallet Town
Ichigo suddenly reappeared at the entrance to Route 1. He looked at his hands and saw the bags of Pokémon Eggs.
"I guess I should bring these back to the lab," he thought.
Ichigo walked back to the empty lab and carried the eggs to his room. He carefully placed them on the bed, each egg unique in color and swirl. He grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around each egg to keep them warm.
"According to some books from our universe, you should be able to sense the reiatsu of the egg to see if they are healthy and safe," Mysteria suggested.
"Good idea," Ichigo agreed. He sat on the bed, gently holding one of the eggs and trying to sense its reiatsu. He felt the Pokémon inside the egg, scared and nervous. Allowing his reiatsu to flow into the egg, Ichigo slowly calmed the Pokémon, reassuring it with his protective energy. Once the egg's occupant had settled, Ichigo placed it down and moved to the next one. Each egg had a similar feeling, and Ichigo repeated the process until all were calm.
Ichigo wrapped the eggs back up in the blanket and laid them gently on the bed. He wasn't sure how long he sat there, but eventually, he heard the sound of the lab door opening. Ichigo stood carefully, making sure the eggs were still secure, and cautiously walked downstairs. He relaxed upon seeing it was only Professor Oak.
"Oh, hello Ichigo," Professor Oak greeted, immediately noticing Ichigo's tense posture. "Something wrong?" he asked.
"Yeah," Ichigo replied. "How much do you know about Pokémon Eggs?"
"Not much," Professor Oak admitted. "Did something happen?" Ichigo proceeded to tell Professor Oak what had happened to him earlier.
"Can I see those eggs?" Professor Oak asked. Ichigo led him to his room, where the eggs were still covered in blankets. Professor Oak reached out to grab one of the Pokémon Eggs, but as soon as his hand neared, all six eggs released a burst of energy, pushing him away. Ichigo quickly caught Professor Oak before he could fall.
"Are you all right, Professor Oak?" Ichigo asked.
"That's unusual," Professor Oak commented, getting back on his feet. Ichigo approached the eggs. He could sense the Pokémon inside were frightened.
"It's okay," Ichigo reassured them, allowing more of his reiatsu to flow around the eggs. He could feel the Pokémon inside calming down.
"Amazing. To think I would see an Aura Guardian again," Professor Oak remarked.
"An Aura Guardian?" Ichigo asked.
"Remember, Ichigo, Arceus mentioned that Aura is the same as Reiatsu," Kyōka reminded him.
"Thanks," Ichigo replied. Professor Oak began explaining what Aura was and who an Aura Guardian was.
"The only remaining evidence of Aura Guardians are stories and artifacts from the Cameran Palace in Sinnoh (2)," Professor Oak explained.
"I see…" Ichigo said. Professor Oak took out his phone and snapped a photo of the Pokémon Eggs.
"Follow me," Professor Oak instructed. They headed over to Professor Oak's large computer, where he connected his phone and called someone.
"Professor, who are you calling?" Ichigo asked.
"I'm calling Professor Elm, an expert on Pokémon breeding and Pokémon Eggs," Professor Oak answered. The screen lit up, revealing a young man with glasses.
"Ah, Professor Oak, how are you?" Professor Elm greeted.
"I'm good, Professor Elm. Have you been getting enough rest?" Professor Oak asked.
"Ha. Ha," Professor Elm chuckled. "Should I be asking you that?" Both professors laughed. "So, what can I help with, Professor Oak?"
Ichigo stepped into the video call and explained what had happened to him earlier and what had just occurred with Professor Oak.
"Do you have a photo of these Pokémon Eggs?" Professor Elm asked.
"I took a photo of them," Professor Oak said as he sent the image over.
"Hm…" Professor Elm muttered as he typed away on the keyboard. "None of the Pokémon Eggs from Kanto or Johto match these eggs."
"I wonder…" Professor Oak mumbled as he typed on his keyboard. A few moments later, Ichigo saw an image of the Pokémon that had called to him on Professor Oak's screen.
"Ichigo, is this the Pokémon that gave you the Pokémon Eggs?" Professor Oak asked.
"It is," Ichigo confirmed.
"Professor Elm?" Professor Oak said.
"Yes?" Professor Elm responded.
"The Pokémon that gave Ichigo the Pokémon Eggs is a Gardevoir," Professor Oak stated.
"I see…" Professor Elm said. "I think I found a close match." Ten pictures of Pokémon Eggs appeared on the screen. "The Pokémon Eggs on the left are the ones you've found, while the ones on the right closely match them," Professor Elm explained.
"Based on this, you believe that the Pokémon Eggs Ichigo found belong to a Vulpix, Feebas, Beldum, Ralts, and a Roselia?" Professor Oak asked.
"Yes," Professor Elm replied. "But given the drastic changes to these Pokémon Eggs and the unique situation Ichigo found them in, I believe they've been experimented on."
"I see…" Professor Oak said. "What about the sixth egg?"
"Even looking at the National Pokédex, I couldn't find any eggs that resemble it," Professor Elm said.
"You think it's a new Pokémon?" Professor Oak asked.
"Possibly," Professor Elm said.
"If Team Rocket achieved that… who knows what chaos they could cause," Professor Oak mused.
"So, what are you planning to do with them?" Professor Elm asked.
Professor Oak sighed. "The only thing I can do is allow Ichigo to take care of them."
"How come?" Professor Elm asked.
"The Pokémon Eggs are bonded to him. He's the only one the Pokémon inside trust," Professor Oak explained.
"I see…" Professor Elm said.
"If this is true, please keep this a secret," Ichigo said.
"I'll try my best. If I have to write a report, I'll let you read it before it's published," Professor Elm promised.
"Same with me," Professor Oak said.
"Thank you," Ichigo replied. With that, Professor Elm ended the call.
"It's getting late," Professor Oak said. "Let's go eat dinner." Just then, the doorbell rang. "Right on time," Professor Oak said.
"You ordered pizza again?" Ichigo asked.
Professor Oak chuckled as he stood up and answered the door. After paying the delivery person, he brought the pizza inside. Ichigo and Professor Oak sat down to enjoy their meal. After dinner, Professor Oak went to his office. Ichigo walked outside of the lab, seeing the sun beginning to set.
He heard a few grunts and turned to see a Machamp sparring with a Kangaskhan. Ichigo walked closer and saw that the Kangaskhan seemed to be receiving training from the Machamp. Both Pokémon stopped sparring when they noticed Ichigo.
"Relax. I'm not here to stop you," Ichigo said. He looked at Kangaskhan. "I want to see how strong you are," he said.
Kangaskhan looked confused, pointing at Ichigo and then at itself. "Yes," Ichigo confirmed, getting into a fighting stance. Kangaskhan looked at Machamp, who nodded and moved to the side.
"Champ!" Machamp yelled as it swung one of its arms down. Kangaskhan let out a loud roar and charged at Ichigo. Ichigo lunged forward to meet the charge. Kangaskhan swung its hand at Ichigo, but Ichigo blocked the attack with his left hand and countered with his right. Kangaskhan quickly moved its head back, dodging the strike. It grabbed Ichigo's right hand and lifted him. Ichigo swung his body upward, delivering a kick to Kangaskhan's face.
"RAH!" Kangaskhan roared in pain, covering its face with both hands and letting go of Ichigo. Ichigo landed on his feet and quickly charged at the distracted Kangaskhan, landing a series of punches to its chest.
"KHAN!" Kangaskhan screamed in pain.
"CHAMP!" Machamp suddenly shouted, stopping the match. Ichigo took a few steps back from Kangaskhan.
"Are you all right?" Ichigo asked as he noticed the bruises on Kangaskhan's body.
"Khan," Kangaskhan replied.
"Allow me to help," Ichigo offered as he began to heal Kangaskhan's injuries. In a few moments, the bruises had disappeared.
"That should do it," Ichigo said. Kangaskhan walked over and hugged him.
"Kangas," Kangaskhan said. Ichigo could tell Kangaskhan appreciated the help.
"No problem," Ichigo replied.
"Champ," Machamp said as it stepped aside, taking up a fighting stance. Kangaskhan let go of Ichigo and moved to the side, assuming the role of referee. Ichigo resumed his fighting stance.
"Kangas-KHAN!" Kangaskhan shouted as it lowered its arm.
"Ma-Champ!" Machamp yelled as it charged at Ichigo and attacked with one set of arms. Ichigo countered Machamp's attacks with quick punches. Suddenly, he swept Machamp's legs, tripping them over.
"Cham!" Machamp grunted as it used its arms to push itself back up. Ichigo moved in close and delivered an uppercut to Machamp's jaw, briefly stunning it. He continued his assault. Machamp quickly regained focus, using both sets of arms to clap in front of Ichigo. Ichigo saw the attack coming and allowed himself to fall, dodging the blow. Machamp noticed Ichigo on the ground and tried to stomp on him. Ichigo rolled to the side and swiftly got back on his feet.
"CHAMP!" Machamp yelled as it charged toward Ichigo, attacking recklessly with all four arms. Ichigo stepped back, swerving to the side, dodging every strike. Machamp continued to pursue him, not relenting. This went on for a while. As Machamp stepped forward again, Ichigo swept its leg, causing it to fall on its back. Before Machamp could move, Ichigo placed his leg on its neck.
"KHAN!" Kangaskhan shouted as it walked toward them. Ichigo moved his leg away from Machamp's neck. He extended his hand toward Machamp, who grabbed it. Ichigo pulled him back up.
"You okay, Machamp?" Ichigo asked.
"Ma," Machamp replied. They let go of each other.
"Are you two fine if I join you later?" Ichigo asked.
"Ma," Machamp nodded.
"Khan," Kangaskhan nodded as well. Ichigo cracked a smile and headed back to the lab. The sun had finally set.
Ichigo returned to the lab, took a quick shower, and then went to his bed, where all six Pokémon Eggs were lying. He climbed into bed, making sure the eggs were close to him so they could sense his reiatsu before he fell asleep.
Time Skip: Next Week
The next week at Professor Oak's lab was eventful. Ichigo spent his time reviewing test questions. Kyōka was a major help, ensuring he was prepared for all possible questions. Every morning and evening, Ichigo sparred with the resident Pokémon at the Ranch. Initially, Professor Oak was concerned when Ichigo fought with Machamp, but now he was accustomed to seeing Ichigo go up against the Pokémon there.
Today was the day of Ichigo's final exam at the Pokémon Technical Institute (PTI). Professor Oak had allowed him to borrow his Arcanine for the journey. The institute was located on Route 2, near Viridian Forest. Ichigo climbed onto Arcanine's back, holding on to its fiery fur as Arcanine ran out of Pallet Town.
"I don't think Arcanine could run this fast if Professor Oak were riding it," Ichigo thought as they sped through Route 1. Arcanine eventually slowed down to a walking pace as they reached Viridian City. The city was slightly bigger than Pallet Town. Ichigo got off Arcanine's back, and they walked down the streets of Viridian City, passing small stores and residential houses. Ichigo noticed a Pokémon Gym.
"If I remember correctly, that's Giovanni's Gym. You need seven badges before challenging him," Ichigo thought as they walked past the gym. Soon, they exited Viridian City and made their way to Route 2. After a short while, they came upon a fork in the road with a sign pointing left, labeled "Viridian Forest." Ichigo and Arcanine followed the path, and soon they arrived at a building that resembled a university.
The entrance was marked with a large sign reading "Pokémon Technical Institute." Ichigo glanced at Arcanine.
"Are you okay staying here?" Ichigo asked.
Arcanine let out a happy yelp and walked over to a nearby tree, settling down. Ichigo walked inside the PTI. He was greeted by someone standing at the front desk.
"Welcome to the Pokémon Technical Institute. Are you here for the Final Exam?" she asked.
"I am," Ichigo replied.
"Great," she said. "What is your name?"
"My name is Ichigo Kurosaki," he said.
"Give me one moment," she said, typing on her computer. "Found it," she added. "Walk down the hall and you'll find room 115 on your left. Your desk number is 15." She handed Ichigo a paper with the information.
"Thank you," Ichigo said, following her instructions. He found room 115 and entered. The room was filled with 20 other students. The boys were dressed in tan dress shirts, dark blue suit jackets with small PTI logos, dark blue pants, and maroon ties. The girls wore short-sleeve white dress shirts, turquoise blue jackets, and skirts. Ichigo was the only one dressed casually, but he ignored their stares and walked to his seat.
Someone else entered the room and sat down at the front.
"Good morning, students. This is your final exam to receive your Pokémon Trainer License," the proctor announced. A small portion of the table opened, and a tablet rose. The tablet lit up with the PTI logo. After a moment, the PTI logo disappeared, replaced by the Pokémon League logo. A welcome screen appeared, with a box to fill in someone's name. "The tablet in front of you is touchscreen. Please type your name," the proctor instructed. All the students typed in their names.
"Scroll down the page. When you click the blue button, the exam will begin. You may start now," the proctor said.
Ichigo clicked the blue button and read the first question: "How many different types of evolutions are there?"
"We have natural evolution, forced evolution, and Mega Evolution," Ichigo thought as he typed his answer.
Next, he moved to the next question: "What is natural evolution?"
"Natural evolution occurs when a Pokémon evolves without outside influence, evolving when they believe they are strong enough," Ichigo answered.
The next question appeared: "What is forced evolution and in what situations does it occur?"
"Forced evolution is when a Pokémon is compelled to evolve. This can happen when the Pokémon is in a dangerous situation, forcing it to evolve. Alternatively, a Pokémon could be exposed to an evolutionary stone, which forces its evolution," Ichigo answered. He continued to answer the questions on the exam.
"Either I over-prepared, or this exam is purposely too easy for me," Ichigo thought as he finished the last question. The tablet lowered itself back down to the table. Ichigo noticed that the other students were still answering questions.
"If you finished early, you may leave and report to the courtyard," the proctor announced. Ichigo quietly stood up and walked out. Upon exiting, he saw Arcanine waiting for him. It stood up and ran toward Ichigo.
"Did I make you wait that long?" Ichigo asked. Arcanine shook its head. "Sorry, but we've got to stay here a bit longer," Ichigo added. Arcanine let out a small howl. Ichigo spotted a fallen branch and walked over to break off the other smaller branches, leaving one long stick. "Why don't we have some fun?" Ichigo asked, holding up the stick. Arcanine yelped in joy. Ichigo threw the stick toward Route 2, and Arcanine eagerly chased after it. A few minutes later, Arcanine returned with the stick in his mouth.
"Good boy," Ichigo said, rubbing Arcanine's head. Arcanine yelped again, dropping the branch. Ichigo stopped rubbing his head, grabbed the branch again, and threw it a little farther. Arcanine took a few more minutes before returning with the stick in its mouth.
"Good boy," Ichigo repeated as he rubbed Arcanine's head again.
"Wow, an Arcanine," someone commented. Ichigo looked up to see a group of students staring at Arcanine with interest.
"Um… is that Arcanine yours?" one of the girls asked.
"It's Professor Oak's," Ichigo admitted. "He allowed his Arcanine to accompany me," he explained.
"Could we pet it?" the girl asked, hopeful.
Ichigo glanced at Arcanine. "Are you fine with it?" he asked. Arcanine nodded his head.
"Yay!" the students cheered.
"Two students at a time," Ichigo regulated.
When the teachers and proctors walked out into the courtyard, they saw all the students surrounding Ichigo and Arcanine.
"Students!" one of the teachers shouted, drawing everyone's attention. "Head to the auditorium." Slowly, the students made their way to the auditorium. Ichigo turned to Arcanine, who let out a final yelp before walking back to the tree and lying down. Ichigo followed the other students into the auditorium and quickly found a seat. A teacher stood at the front.
"Hello, students," the teacher greeted. "The next part of your exam is the practical element." Two teachers moved a whiteboard beside the instructor. "We've quarantined the entire Viridian Forest for the duration of this exam. Your goal is to travel through the forest, build or find shelter for the night, and capture at least one Pokémon," the teacher announced.
"Will we be given our own Pokémon to help capture others?" one of the students asked.
"No," the teacher replied. "You'll use all the knowledge you've learned to befriend a Pokémon and capture it."
"Will we be allowed to work together?" another student asked.
"No," the teacher said firmly. "This is an individual effort. If two students help each other, both will fail the exam. However, if someone needs assistance, like medical aid, you may help them without penalty."
"So we're only allowed to capture Caterpies, Metapods, Weedles, Kakunas, Pidgeys, and Spearows?" a student asked.
"We've added a few more Pokémon into the forest for this exam," the teacher clarified. "One by one, come down to receive a bag. It contains a tracker, six Poké Balls, and a few potions." Each student walked down and took a bag. After that, everyone headed for the entrance of Viridian Forest. The sun was already beginning to set.
"When I give you the signal, the final exam begins," the teacher instructed, looking at his watch. "BEGIN!" he yelled, and everyone rushed into the forest. Ichigo calmly entered, activating Schrift E: The Earth. He could sense all the running students and the startled Pokémon deep within the forest.
"Don't they realize they just scared off all the Pokémon, making them retreat further into the forest?" Ichigo thought as he walked calmly to the left. He noticed a berry hanging on a tree. It had a reddish hue, resembling raspberries.
"Isn't this a Razz Berry?" Ichigo mentally asked.
"It is. We should pick some," Kyōka suggested.
Ichigo carefully harvested the Razz Berries and put them in his bag. He picked a few more before stopping. He scoured the area for fallen branches and rocks, using them to build a makeshift wall around himself. The remaining branches became a roof. Ichigo laid down, placing the Razz Berries beside him, using his bag as a pillow, and drifted off to sleep.
Time Skip: Next Morning
Ichigo awoke to find his shelter undisturbed. He activated Schrift E: The Earth once again to sense the location of the other students and the Pokémon.
"Looks like all the students and Pokémon are still sleeping," Ichigo thought as he carefully removed the branches that had served as his roof. After standing up and stretching, he removed a few branches from the wall and grabbed his bag and the Razz Berries. He made his way to the other side of the forest.
Suddenly, he heard a loud screech. Looking up, Ichigo saw a Pidgeotto perched on a tree branch, glaring at him.
"Are you the protector of this tree?" Ichigo asked.
Pidgeotto screeched loudly, puffing its feathers in pride.
"Very well, then, I will be on my way," Ichigo said, turning to walk away.
But just as he started to leave, Pidgeotto swooped down and landed in front of him, staring at him with confusion.
"You're confused, aren't you?" Ichigo said. "You expected me to try and capture you, just like the other trainers." Pidgeotto nodded. "You're bigger and stronger, so you can protect this place. I won't take your role away from you," Ichigo continued.
More screeches rang out, and Ichigo saw a group of Pidgeottos and Pidgeys fly down and land beside the larger Pidgeotto. They began chirping at it. Eventually, the larger Pidgeotto nodded and walked toward Ichigo.
"Let me guess, your family is telling you to leave and live your life," Ichigo said.
Pidgeotto nodded again. Ichigo pulled out a Poké Ball. The Pidgeotto tapped the button with its beak. The Poké Ball opened, absorbing the Pokémon. Ichigo could feel the ball shake a few times before emitting a red flash, signaling a successful capture.
Ichigo turned to the remaining Pidgeottos and Pidgeys. He bowed to them. "I will take care of your protector," he said, walking away.
It took another ten minutes before Ichigo reached the edge of Viridian Forest. He saw someone sitting under a canopy, wearing a shirt with the Pokémon Technical Institute logo.
"Congratulations on reaching the other side of the Viridian Forest. Please present your bag," he said. Ichigo handed him his bag, and the man took out the tracer and plugged it into a computer. "What is your name?"
"Ichigo Kurosaki," he answered. A few minutes later, the computer turned to face him.
"Please select the shelter you built," he said. Ichigo saw three pictures in front of him. The first was of someone sleeping on a log, with the face blacked out. The second showed someone sleeping in a pile of leaves, the face also blocked. The third picture was of the shelter Ichigo had built. Ichigo selected the third one and then turned the computer back toward himself. He plugged a scanner into the device.
"Present the Pokémon you've captured," the man said. Ichigo presented the Poké Ball with Pidgeotto inside. The scanner scanned the Poké Ball.
"According to this, you've captured a Pidgeotto," the man said.
"Correct," Ichigo said, placing the Poké Ball back in his bag. The computer screen turned back to him.
"Please make sure all the information presented is accurate." Ichigo scanned the details on the screen and confirmed everything was correct.
"Everything is correct," Ichigo said.
"If so, click the green button." Ichigo did as instructed. A green checkmark appeared on the screen.
"Ok, you will be teleported back to PTI," he said. An Alakazam appeared beside Ichigo, its eyes glowing blue before teleporting them. They appeared back in the courtyard. Ichigo noticed two people sitting under a canopy—on the left, a woman with the Kanto Pokémon League logo on her shirt, and on the right, a man wearing the PTI logo.
"Ichigo Kurosaki?" the man asked.
"I am," Ichigo responded.
"Congratulations on passing the final exam," he said.
"Normally, for students of PTI, there would be a ceremony where a representative from the Kanto Pokémon League presents the certificate," the woman explained. "Since you're not officially part of PTI, you have the option of receiving it without attending the ceremony. Or, you can join the others at the ceremony."
"I wish to get it now."
"Very well." The woman stood up, pulled out a certificate, and handed it to Ichigo.
"Certificate of Completion. This certificate is presented to Ichigo Kurosaki for completing the final exam at Pokémon Technical Institute. This certificate will allow Ichigo Kurosaki to begin his journey as a Pokémon Trainer. Signed Delia Ketchum, president of the Kanto Pokémon League," the certificate read.
"Thank you," Ichigo said.
"This will serve as your temporary Trainer Card. Please go to a Pokémon Center, and they will help you get your permanent Trainer Card," she added.
"Thank you," Ichigo replied, accepting the Trainer Card. He then walked back to Arcanine, who stood up and stretched.
"Let's go back," Ichigo said. Arcanine yelped in response as they began walking.
Time Skip: One Hour
Ichigo and Arcanine arrived at Professor Oak's Lab. Arcanine walked toward the ranch, and Ichigo entered the lab.
"Ichigo, is that you?" Professor Oak called out.
"Yep," Ichigo replied.
"I'm in your room. The eggs are about to hatch," he said. Ichigo made his way to his room, where he saw Professor Oak sitting in a chair. On the floor was a large tub of water, and all the Pokémon eggs were wobbling.
"What's going on, little ones?" Ichigo asked. All the Pokémon eggs began to glow white. Ichigo's eyes widened as he realized what was happening.
"They're hatching," Ichigo thought, pulling out his phone to record the moment.
The first egg hatched, revealing a small, quadruped, fox-like Pokémon. It had a golden pelt with a cream-colored underbelly, brown eyes, large pointed ears with dark golden insides, and a triangular dark brown nose. Its paws were slightly darker than the rest of its pelt, with light golden paw pads. Three curled locks of golden fur adorned its head, and it had a golden tail with curled tips.
"A Vulpix," Ichigo thought.
The second egg hatched, revealing a silver, robotic Pokémon. It had a long body with a set of claws sticking out of its rear end. It had one large, red eye in the center of its nearly spherical head, set in a ball-and-socket joint. A short crest projected from its body, extending over its head.
"I have no idea what Pokémon this is," Ichigo thought.
"That's a Beldum," Professor Oak explained, seeing Ichigo's confused look.
The third egg hatched to reveal a bipedal, rosebud-like Pokémon. Its face was yellow with small slit-like eyes. It appeared to be wearing a purple bib and had triangular, stubby yellow feet.
"A Roselia," Professor Oak identified.
The fourth egg hatched, revealing a fish-like Pokémon with an old appearance. It had a light purple body covered in darker purple irregular spots, large deep-set eyes, and big pink lips. The tail and pectoral fins were dull silver and tattered. The dorsal fin was triangular with a hole in the middle. The Pokémon leaped into the tub of water.
"A Feebas," Professor Oak identified.
The fifth egg hatched, revealing a humanoid Pokémon with a black body. It had thin arms and legs that widened toward the feet, giving the impression of a nightgown or oversized dress. Most of its face was covered by blue hair resembling a bowl cut. Two flat, red horns adorned its head, one large and one smaller at the back.
"Hm… A Ralts," Professor Oak identified.
"Are you my mommy?" Ralts asked telepathically.
"I'm your daddy," Ichigo replied.
The final egg hatched to reveal a serpentine Pokémon with black and red vertical stripes running down its body. It had a pair of black, ghostly streamers on its back, with red spikes at the tips. Spikes were visible on its sides, and it had two golden horns that covered its mouth like a mask.
"This must be the mysterious Pokémon," Professor Oak said, staring at it. The Pokémon noticed Professor Oak's gaze and nervously wiggled toward Ichigo, hiding behind him.
"There, there," Ichigo reassured as he lightly rubbed the Pokémon's head, calming it down.
"Do you know the names of these Pokémon?"
"I know this golden one is a Vulpix and the white one is Beldum but not the others," Ichigo admitted.
"It's fine," Professor Oak said. "In order, that's a Vulpix, Beldum, Roselia, Feebas, and Ralts," he introduced. "Though, I don't know who that little one is," he admitted.
"I see…" Ichigo said. "Could you get a few Poké Balls for me to capture them?" he asked.
"Sure," Professor Oak replied as he walked out of Ichigo's room. Ichigo looked down at the unknown Pokémon.
"Do you have a name you want me to give you?" Ichigo asked. The unknown Pokémon nodded. "Are you a boy?" The Pokémon pecked at Ichigo's arm. "Guess not," Ichigo said. "How about Kaida? It means little dragon." The Pokémon pecked at Ichigo's arm again, clearly displeased with the name. Professor Oak returned with six Poké Balls.
"Here you go, Ichigo," Professor Oak said. Ichigo gently tapped each Pokémon with a Poké Ball, capturing them all. He released them again; they were a little disoriented but seemed fine.
"Professor Oak, do you have any ideas for a nickname for our mysterious Pokémon?" Ichigo asked.
"Hm… What about Yami? It means darkness, and you like to hide behind Ichigo." The Pokémon finally nodded, accepting the name.
"Great," Ichigo said.
"With that settled, let's head down to my lab," Professor Oak suggested. Ichigo picked up Ralts and Roselia, while Yami wiggled and settled on Ichigo's neck. Vulpix landed on Ichigo's head, holding on gently, and Beldum floated beside him. Ichigo turned to Feebas.
"Do you want to stay out here or go back to your Poké Ball?" Feebas used its arms to point down. "Okay," Ichigo said. Professor Oak helped carry the tub with Feebas in it, and they all walked downstairs to Professor Oak's computer.
"Can I have those Poké Balls?" Professor Oak asked.
"Why?" Ichigo inquired.
"Not many know this, but the Poké Ball helps collect data on the Pokémon inside. Pokémon Trainers can use their Pokédex to view the data," Professor Oak explained.
"I see…" Ichigo handed the Poké Balls to Professor Oak, who inserted each one into his computer. A screen appeared, showing an image of Ichigo's Vulpix.
"According to the data, nothing immediately stands out," Professor Oak said. "Though it seems Vulpix was bred with a Kalos Eevee since it has access to Baby-Doll Eyes."
"Kalos Eevee?" Ichigo questioned.
"It was part of a massive study done between Professor Rowan, Professor Sycamore, Professor Kukui, and myself," Professor Oak explained. "We studied how different Pokémon have different forms or types in various regions. In Kalos, we discovered that some Pokémon have the Fairy Type, even if they didn't have it in other regions like Kanto. Professor Kukui also revealed that some Pokémon native to Alola were originally from Kanto but changed due to the region's environment."
"That's interesting," Ichigo said.
"This Vulpix's ability is Flash Fire." Professor Oak clicked a button, and the screen shifted to Beldum.
"Hm… this Beldum has Clear Body and Heatproof," Professor Oak commented.
"Is that strange?" Ichigo asked.
"It is," Professor Oak replied. "Normally, Beldum's evolutionary line has only Clear Body, but this one has both abilities." The image changed to Roselia. "It appears Roselia is normal with Poison Point," Professor Oak said as the image changed to Feebas. "It seems this Feebas already knows Dragonbreath and has Adaptability as its ability. It looks like it was bred with a Dragon-Type Pokémon, though I'm not sure which one." The image then changed to Ralts.
"This Ralts is unusual," Professor Oak said bluntly as he pulled up another page. Ichigo could see the difference the Ralts on screen had green hair and a white dress. "According to the Poké Ball, your Ralts is a Psychic/Dark-type. Normal Ralts are Psychic types, and Kalos Ralts are Psychic/Fairy types." He sighed deeply as he clicked to the last screen, showing a picture of Yami.
"Yami is another interesting case," Professor Oak said. "According to the Poké Ball, Yami is a Ghost/Dragon-type. There isn't any Pokémon in the National Pokédex (3) that matches this type combination."
"National Pokédex?" Ichigo asked.
"The National Pokédex is a compilation of all known Pokémon across the regions," Professor Oak explained. "It was started by me, and later, other regions added their Pokémon data to the list."
"I see…" Ichigo said.
"Anyways, I don't think we should let anyone know the truth about Ralts and Yami," Professor Oak said.
"Agreed," Ichigo replied.
"We have two options," Professor Oak continued. "The first is to try to make you a sponsored Pokémon Trainer."
"A sponsored Pokémon Trainer?" Ichigo questioned.
"Sponsored Pokémon Trainers are given a Pokédex," Professor Oak said, walking to his drawer and pulling out a red device. "The Pokédex allows you to scan any captured or wild Pokémon, giving you basic information. This data is sent to the Regional Professor's Database, where professors can use it to analyze any unique situations or anomalies. It also helps Trainers see what moves certain Pokémon could learn and provides tips on how to teach them," Professor Oak explained.
"But wouldn't that reveal Ralts and Yami?"
"Unless you don't connect your Pokédex to the main server," he said.
"Main server?" Ichigo asked.
"All Professors can store their sponsored Pokémon Trainer's Pokédex data on a private server for research purposes," Professor Oak explained.
"What about the other option?" Ichigo asked.
"The other option is for you to go incognito as a regular Pokémon Trainer," Professor Oak said. "The issue with that is that if another Trainer scans your Pokémon with their Pokédex, it will immediately flag the Pokémon in the server."
"I see… In that case, let's go with the sponsored Pokémon Trainer," Ichigo said. Professor Oak nodded and inserted the device into his computer.
"Ichigo, do you have your temporary Trainer Card?"
"I do," Ichigo said, taking it out and handing it to Professor Oak.
"Excellent," Professor Oak said as he began to input Ichigo's information into the Pokédex.
"Also, you can use any computer at a Pokémon Center or at my lab to do research and then download it to your Pokédex," he added.
"I see…" Ichigo responded.
"And done," Professor Oak said, handing Ichigo the Pokédex. "All of your Pokémon are registered."
"Do I have a limit on how many Pokémon I can have?" Ichigo asked, recalling that in the anime and games, trainers could only have six Pokémon.
"In official battles, the maximum number of Pokémon a trainer can have is six," Professor Oak answered. "But you can carry more than six. Most sponsored Pokémon trainers leave the rest of their Pokémon with their sponsor."
"I see…" Ichigo said. "For now, I want to carry all of them."
"Very well then," Professor Oak said.
"What about if I go to the Pokémon Center? Nurse Joy will likely see them," Ichigo asked.
"Ah, I forgot about that," Professor Oak said, typing something into his computer. "I've added a disclaimer to your file."
"A disclaimer?"
"Yes, I've noted that these Pokémon have been experimented on, which makes them unique, and that they're currently under careful observation under your care," Professor Oak explained.
"Are you fine with me spending the night here before I start my journey tomorrow?" Ichigo asked, noticing the sun beginning to set.
"Sure," Professor Oak replied, handing Ichigo his Pokédex. Ichigo took his Pokémon back to his room and released Pidgeotto from its Poké Ball. He noticed the other Pokémon were curious about Pidgeotto and started talking among themselves.
"I wonder what moves you guys have," Ichigo said, pulling out his Pokédex and scanning Pidgeotto's Poké Ball.
"This Pidgeotto is a male, Normal/Flying-type, 4 feet 2 inches tall, and has the Keen Eye ability. The known moves are Peck, Quick Attack, Feather Dance, Agility, and Wing Attack," the Pokédex reported.
"I see…" Ichigo muttered. He scanned Vulpix's Poké Ball next.
"This Vulpix is a female, Fire-type, 2 feet tall, and has the Flash Fire ability. The known moves are Baby-Doll Eyes and Ember. Note: This Pokémon has an unusual coloration."
Ichigo scanned Beldum's Poké Ball.
"This Beldum is genderless, Steel/Psychic-type, 2 feet tall, and has the Clear Body and Heatproof abilities. The known moves are Take Down and Magnet Rise (4). Note: This Pokémon has an unusual coloration."
Ichigo then scanned Roselia's Poké Ball.
"This Roselia is female, Grass/Poison-type, 1 foot 2 inches tall, and has the Poison Point ability. The known moves are Absorb, Poison Sting, Sleep Powder, and Stun Spore. Note: This Pokémon has an unusual coloration."
Next, Ichigo scanned Feebas's Poké Ball.
"This Feebas is female, Water-type, 2 feet tall, and has the Adaptability ability. The known move is Dragonbreath. Note: This Pokémon has an unusual coloration."
Ichigo scanned Ralts's Poké Ball.
"This Ralts is female, Psychic/Dark-type, 1 foot 4 inches tall, and has the Regenerator and Dark Aura abilities. The known moves are Teleport, Confusion, Disarming Voice, and Confuse Ray. Note: This Pokémon's physical appearance, typing combination, and ability are unusual. Please rescan Poké Ball to attempt fixing anomalies."
Ichigo then scanned Yami's Poké Ball.
"Yami is genderless, Ghost/Dragon-type, 2 feet 2 inches tall, and has the Levitate ability. The known move is Dragonbreath."
"I'm going to take a quick shower, and then we'll go to bed," Ichigo said. His Pokémon nodded. Ichigo walked into the bathroom and took a quick shower. Afterward, he lay in his bed and quickly fell asleep.
Time Skip: Next Morning
Ichigo woke up to see Pidgeotto sleeping on the bedframe, using it as a perch. Feebas was happily sleeping in the tub of water. Beldum lay on the floor, still asleep. Ralts, Vulpix, Roselia, and Yami slept on his bed. Ichigo opened his eyes.
"Time to get up," Ichigo thought as he stood up. His sudden movement woke up Ralts, Vulpix, Roselia, and Yami.
"Daddy?" Ralts asked. Their startled cries woke up Pidgeotto, Beldum, and Feebas.
"Sorry for waking all of you up," Ichigo said. "But it's time to wake up." His Pokémon nodded and allowed Ichigo to get out of bed. He took a quick shower and stepped outside. He returned all his Pokémon to their Poké Balls and walked downstairs. He saw Professor Oak sitting at the kitchen table with a backpack beside him.
"Looks like someone's up early," Professor Oak said.
"Looks who's talking, old man," Ichigo replied with a smirk.
"I'll have you know that during my Pokémon journey, I was already up by dawn," Professor Oak said.
"I guess this is goodbye for now," Ichigo said.
"Indeed," Professor Oak replied as he picked up the backpack. "Take this. It should help for a while." Ichigo took the backpack from Professor Oak and opened it. Inside, he found a few potions, some containers of Poké Chow, six Poké Balls, some dried fruit and meat, and a map.
"Thank you, Professor Oak," Ichigo said with a polite bow.
"It was my pleasure to have you here," Professor Oak said as Ichigo put the backpack on and left the lab.
Scene Change: Route 1
Ichigo walked down Route 1, with Beldum out beside him. As they walked, Ichigo saw Rattatas, Pidgeys, Sparrows, Caterpies, Metapods, and Weedles. A single Take Down from Beldum took care of them all. None stood a chance.
It took two hours of walking before Ichigo arrived at Viridian City. He returned Beldum to its Poké Ball and headed toward the Pokémon Center.
"Welcome to the Pokémon Center. How can I help you?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Hello. Can you heal my Pokémon?" Ichigo asked, pulling out Beldum's Poké Ball.
"Sure," Nurse Joy said, bringing out a tray for the Poké Balls. Ichigo placed Beldum's Poké Ball on the tray. "Just give me a few minutes, and your Pokémon will be ready," she said. "Anything else I can help you with?"
"I'd like to register for the Pokémon League," Ichigo said.
"Sure. I'll need your Trainer Card," Nurse Joy said. Ichigo handed over his Pokédex. She inserted it into her computer, and a few moments later, she returned it.
"It's done," Nurse Joy said, and there was a loud ping behind him. She turned around, grabbed Beldum's Poké Ball, and returned it to Ichigo.
"Thank you," Ichigo said, pocketing Beldum's Poké Ball. He walked out of the Pokémon Center and soon left Viridian City, entering Route 2.
"Beldum, come on out," Ichigo said, releasing Beldum from its Poké Ball. Unlike Route 1, Route 2 didn't have any Pokémon jumping out in their way. Ichigo took a left at the fork and soon arrived at the entrance to Viridian Forest.
Viridian Forest was teeming with Pokémon. Ichigo and Beldum walked through casually. Every time a Pokémon appeared, Beldum easily dealt with them using Take Down.
Suddenly, someone leaped out from the grass holding a katana. Instincts kicked in, and Ichigo caught the blade between his fingers. He looked to see a young child wearing a samurai helmet.
"Who are you?" Ichigo growled.
"I-I-I am Samurai," the kid stammered. "I wanted to see the monster that slaughtered all these Pokémon."
"Very well," Ichigo said, eyeing the kid. "I'll use my Beldum."
"I choose you, Pinsir!" Samurai declared as a bipedal Pokémon with large pincers on its head appeared.
"You can go first," Ichigo said.
"Pinsir, use Tackle!" Samurai yelled as it charged at Beldum.
"Dodge in the air," Ichigo said calmly. Beldum used Magnet Rise and soared into the air.
"Hey!" Samurai shouted. Pinsir glared at Beldum, now floating above him and out of his reach.
"Use Take Down," Ichigo ordered. Beldum dived toward the grounded Pinsir.
"Dodge it!" Samurai yelled, but Pinsir wasn't quick enough and jumped to the side.
"Beldum, adjust your position with Magnet Rise," Ichigo said. Beldum adjusted and lined up with Pinsir's new location.
"DODGE IT!" Samurai yelled, but it was too late. Beldum's Take Down slammed directly into Pinsir's forehead, knocking it to the ground. Beldum floated back to Ichigo's side.
Ichigo gently patted Beldum's ball head as the dust settled, revealing Pinsir fainted on the ground. Samurai raised his Poké Ball.
"Return," he muttered, recalling his fainted Pinsir. He threw another Poké Ball. "I choose you, Metapod!"
A green cocoon appeared in front of Samurai.
"You can have the first move," Ichigo said.
"Fool," Samurai said with a smirk. "Metapod, use Harden!" he commanded. Metapod's shell briefly glowed silver, becoming shinier.
"Beldum, use Take Down," Ichigo said. Beldum slammed into Metapod with full force. The cocoon flew back and crashed into a nearby tree.
"Metapod!" Samurai shouted, rushing over as Metapod fell to the ground, its eyes swirling.
Samurai took out a Poké Ball and recalled his fainted Metapod. Ichigo heard a small ping and pulled out his Pokédex. He had earned 200 PokéDollars from the battle.
"You are strong," Samurai complimented.
"Thank you," Ichigo said as he turned to leave.
Ichigo walked to a nearby clearing and sat down. He turned to Beldum.
"You okay?" Ichigo asked.
Beldum nodded.
"Do you want to take a break?" Ichigo asked.
Beldum nodded again.
Ichigo returned Beldum to its Poké Ball and released Vulpix instead.
"Ready to burn things?" Ichigo asked with a grin.
Vulpix looked at him and shrugged her shoulders.
"Do you want to ride on my shoulder?" Ichigo asked.
Vulpix yelped and leaped onto his shoulder. Ichigo walked through the forest, and a few bug trainers challenged him on his way out. Vulpix's Ember easily destroyed all of them. The sun was setting when Ichigo exited Viridian Forest and entered Route 3.
Soon, he arrived at Pewter City and headed straight for the Pokémon Center.
"Welcome to the Pokémon Center. How may I help you?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Hi. I was wondering if I could get my Pokémon healed," Ichigo said, returning Vulpix to her Poké Ball and placing Beldum's Poké Ball on the table.
"Sure," Nurse Joy replied, placing the Poké Balls on the table.
"I also need a room for the night," Ichigo added.
"Sure," she said, smiling. "I just need to see your Trainer Card." Ichigo handed her his Pokédex. She scanned it on her computer, then smiled. "Everything seems good. Your room number is 2."
"Thank you," Ichigo said as she handed back his Pokédex along with the Poké Balls. Ichigo walked to the cafeteria, grabbed some food, and then made his way to his room. After checking into the room, he released his Pokémon, except for Feebas. He took out some PokéChow for them and sat down at the computer to do some research on the Pewter City Gym.
"Hm… Brock's team consists of Geodude and Onix," Ichigo thought. "Right now, Roselia is the only one who stands a chance, but she only has Absorb."
Ichigo looked at his Pokédex and saw that Professor Oak had downloaded updated data on his Pokémon from the National Pokédex.
"Hm… Roselia could learn Mega Drain, Leech Seed, and Magical Leaf soon," Ichigo thought. "What other Pokémon should I train up? Pidgeotto, Vulpix, and Feebas wouldn't be much help against Brock's Pokémon. Ralts and Yami needed to remain secret for now. That left Beldum, though it didn't know any other moves yet."
Ichigo turned to his Pokémon.
"Tomorrow, we're going back to Viridian Forest to train," Ichigo said. "Roselia and Beldum will be key to our victory."
Roselia and Beldum nodded.
"But don't think you're off the hook," Ichigo continued, looking at his other Pokémon. "All of you will train too."
"We start early tomorrow," Ichigo said, turning off the computer and getting ready for bed.
Scene Change: Pewter City Gym
Ichigo spent three days in Viridian Forest. He found a clearing for their campsite and allowed Ralts, Yami, Vulpix, Feebas, and Pidgeotto to wander around the forest, making sure they didn't go too far. Pidgeotto was tasked with supervising them while Ichigo took Roselia and Beldum to train.
Roselia handled Rattatas, Caterpies, Weedles, Metapods, and Kakunas. Beldum dealt with Pidgeys, Pidgeottos, Butterfree, and Beedrill. During this time, Roselia learned Mega Drain, Leech Seed, and Magical Leaf, but Beldum didn't learn any new moves. However, Ichigo could tell Beldum was growing stronger.
After a day of rest, Ichigo entered the Pewter City Gym. The room was dark.
"Who goes there!?" someone shouted. His voice echoed through the dark room.
"Looks like this follows the anime," Ichigo thought.
"My name is Ichigo Kurosaki. I am here to challenge Brock Stone for the Boulder Badge," Ichigo said. The lights flashed on, revealing someone standing there.
"I am Brock Stone. Challenger, come forth," Brock said. Ichigo walked up to the raised step and turned to see a referee enter the stage.
"Is this your first gym battle?" the referee asked.
"It is," Ichigo replied.
"The battle between Gym Leader Brock Stone and Challenger Ichigo Kurosaki will now begin. This is a two-on-two battle. Only the challenger may substitute his Pokémon," the referee announced.
"Go, Geodude!" Brock said. A floating rock with arms made of the same stone appeared.
"Go, Roselia!" Ichigo said.
"Hm… I haven't seen a Roselia in Kanto before, especially one with that color combination," Brock muttered. Ichigo nodded in response.
"Begin!" the referee shouted.
"Geodude, use Defense Curl!" Brock commanded. Geodude curled into a ball and briefly glowed white.
"Roselia, use Magical Leaf!" Ichigo ordered. Roselia flicked her purple and grey flowers, sending curved leaves flying toward Geodude.
"Geodude, use Defense Curl again and brace for impact!" Brock yelled.
"Geo!" Geodude cried as it curled up once more, glowing white. Roselia's Magical Leaf hit Geodude.
"GEO!" Geodude cried in pain from the attack. It slowly rose back up, struggling to maintain its stance.
"Geodude, use Tackle!" Brock commanded.
"Geo Geo," Geodude grunted as it lunged at Roselia.
"Roselia, dodge and use Magical Leaf again!" Ichigo ordered. Roselia gracefully jumped aside, avoiding Geodude's Tackle, and hit it again with Magical Leaf. Geodude crashed into the dirt, swirls appearing in its eyes.
"Geodude is unable to battle. The winner is Roselia," the referee announced. Brock nodded, recalling his fainted Geodude.
"Go, Onix!" Brock said, releasing a giant rock snake.
"Begin!" the referee shouted.
"Onix, use Rock Tomb!" Brock ordered.
"Roselia, dodge it and use Leech Seed!" Ichigo commanded. Giant boulders began falling around them. Roselia dodged the incoming rocks and flicked her flowers, sending little seeds spiraling toward Onix. The seeds wrapped around Onix, glowing red as they began to drain its energy.
"IX!" Onix roared in agony.
"Onix, use Tackle!" Brock shouted. Onix charged toward Roselia.
"Roselia, dodge it and use Magical Leaf!" Ichigo instructed.
"Rose!" Roselia replied as she dodged Onix's charge and fired more leaves at the massive Pokémon. Eventually, Onix collapsed to the ground.
"Onix is unable to battle. The winner is Roselia. Which means Ichigo Kurosaki is the winner!" the referee announced. Brock recalled his fallen Onix and walked over to Ichigo, pulling out a small badge.
"As a symbol of your victory, I present you with the Boulder Badge," Brock said.
"Thank you," Ichigo said as he accepted the Boulder Badge.
"Also, as part of your victory, five thousand PokéDollars have been deposited into your bank account," Brock added.
"Thank you," Ichigo said again. He recalled Roselia and walked to the Pokémon Center.
"How did your gym battle go?" Nurse Joy asked as Ichigo handed over Roselia's Poké Ball.
"She did amazing. She single-handedly won the gym battle," Ichigo said.
"Good job," Nurse Joy said as she placed the Poké Ball into the machine. Ichigo walked over to the Kanto map on the wall.
"So, I'll need to go through Route 3, Mount Moon, and Route 4 before reaching Cerulean City," Ichigo thought aloud. He walked back and picked up Roselia from Nurse Joy.
Ichigo walked to the PokéMart, restocked his supplies, and then headed out toward Route 3.
As he walked through Route 3, Ichigo had Vulpix handle the trainers who challenged him. Vulpix used Baby-Doll Eyes to make the enemy Pokémon hesitate to attack. With them distracted, she'd unleash Ember. After the third trainer, Vulpix's Ember evolved into Incinerate, a much stronger Fire-type move. By the late afternoon, Ichigo arrived at the Pokémon Center outside Mount Moon.
"Good job, girl. Take a long break," Ichigo said to Vulpix, who let out a yelp of approval before being returned to her Poké Ball.
After getting Vulpix healed at the Pokémon Center, Ichigo ventured into Mount Moon. He used Schrift E: The Earth to get a general sense of the mountain.
"Hm… looks like there aren't any trainers on the first few levels. It should be safe for Ralts and Yami," Ichigo thought as he released Ralts and Yami.
"Ralts, use Confusion," Ichigo instructed.
"Yes, Daddy," Ralts replied cheerfully.
Ichigo turned to Yami. "Yami, use Dragon Breath," he ordered. Yami nodded.
With a plan in place, they ventured deeper into Mount Moon. They encountered countless Zubats, Geodudes, and a few Paras. Ralts and Yami took care of them. As they walked through the dark caves, Ichigo noticed a light ahead. As they got closer, he saw lanterns lighting the walls.
"Strange, someone put these lanterns here," Ichigo thought. He used Schrift E: The Earth again. "Someone is mining rocks here," he realized. Ichigo quickly recalled Ralts and Yami, keeping Beldum and Roselia ready in case he needed them. He cautiously approached the lit cave.
In the distance, Ichigo could hear the faint sound of clinking metal.
"Hurry up!" a voice shouted.
"It's hard to do this by hand," another voice replied, followed by a loud clang as rocks fell.
"About time!" A third voice sounded.
Ichigo hid behind a rock and peeked out. He saw several people wearing black uniforms with a red "R" on their shirts. They were carrying a large bag of silver rocks and two hefty bags of Poké Balls.
"It's Team Rocket," Ichigo recognized, recalling the uniform from the anime. He used Schrift E: The Earth again. "Seems like there are only five people here," he thought. Ichigo released Beldum and Roselia, preparing for what was to come.
"Beldum, I want you to use Take Down on all five of those people. Make sure to slam them into the ground," Ichigo ordered. Beldum nodded its head.
"Roselia, use Sleep Powder on them," Ichigo added. Roselia nodded in agreement.
"GO!" Ichigo shouted. The Team Rocket Grunts turned toward him.
"We got a spy!" one of them shouted. Immediately, Beldum launched itself into the fray, using Take Down on one of the grunts, while Roselia used Sleep Powder on the others. The grunt slammed into the cave wall, falling unconscious.
"Admin Archer, we need help!" one of the grunts yelled before succumbing to the Sleep Powder.
"Dammit," Ichigo thought, quickly moving to knock out the remaining grunts.
As Ichigo turned around, he saw a man with teal hair step into the cave. His uniform was different from the others, indicating his higher rank.
"I assume you are Admin Archer?" Ichigo asked.
"I am," the man replied coolly. "You shouldn't mess with Team Rocket's business," he warned, throwing three Poké Balls. A Koffing, Muk, and Zubat appeared in a flash.
"Beldum, use Take Down! Roselia, support Beldum with Sleep Powder and Stun Spore!" Ichigo ordered.
"Koffing and Muk, use Sludge! Zubat, use Supersonic!" Archer commanded.
Beldum soared through the air and slammed into Koffing. "Koffing!" Koffing cried as it crashed into Zubat, preventing it from using Supersonic. Muk's Sludge hit Roselia's Sleep Powder, interrupting her attack.
Admin Archer turned to his recovering grunts. "Grab the items and get back to the van," he ordered.
"Yes, sir!" they replied as they grabbed the bags and ran off. Archer turned back to face Ichigo.
"Koffing, use Self-Destruct!" Archer shouted.
"KOFF!" Koffing screamed as it glowed white.
"Get back!" Ichigo yelled. Beldum rushed in front of Ichigo, glowing as it braced for impact. Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the cave. Ichigo shielded Roselia with his body, waiting for the dust to settle.
As the dust cleared, Ichigo turned to see something large and silver. His eyes widened as he recognized it.
"You evolved?" Ichigo asked in disbelief. He now saw that Beldum had evolved into Metang. The Pokémon's disc-shaped body had two flat gold spikes at the rear, a gold spike on its face resembling a nose, and red eyes in two holes on its metallic skin. It lacked legs, but its thick arms ended in three sharp claws.
"Tang," Metang replied, its voice deep and calm.
Ichigo looked around, noticing the Team Rocket members had managed to escape in the explosion. He pulled out his Pokédex and scanned the evolved Pokémon.
"This is Metang, a genderless Steel/Psychic-type, 4 feet tall. Its abilities are Clear Body and Heat Proof, and it knows Take Down, Confusion, Metal Claw, and Magnet Rise."
"Seems you've learned some new moves," Ichigo commented.
"Metang," the Pokémon responded, pleased with its newfound strength.
Ichigo stood up, surveying the damage. He noticed something golden and orange peeking out from the debris. Curious, he walked over and pulled it out.
"This seems familiar," Ichigo thought to himself.
Kyōka's voice echoed in his mind. "According to the video game, that's an Old Amber. It can be used to revive an Aerodactyl."
"Thank you," Ichigo replied, sending the Old Amber to his mindscape. He recalled Metang and Roselia to their Poké Balls and walked toward the cave's exit. The morning light shone brightly, marking the end of his time on Mount Moon. He made his way through Route 4, easily bypassing all the sleeping Pokémon along the way. Soon, he arrived in Cerulean City and headed straight for the Pokémon Center.
"Looks like someone decided to have an early morning," Nurse Joy greeted. "How can I help you?"
"I need you to heal these Pokémon," Ichigo said, handing her four Poké Balls.
"Sure," Nurse Joy replied. She placed the Poké Balls in a tray and inserted them into the machine. "It'll just be a few minutes, and your Pokémon will be ready. Anything else I can help you with?"
"I'm also going to need a room for a few days," Ichigo said, handing her his Pokédex.
"Of course," she said, taking the Pokédex and registering him for a room. "You'll be in Room 4."
"Thanks," Ichigo said as he pocketed his Pokédex.
"Your Pokémon are all healed up," Nurse Joy said, walking to the machine. She returned with Ichigo's Poké Balls. Ichigo pocketed them and walked into his room. He changed out of his clothes and took a short nap.
A few hours later, Ichigo woke up and stretched his body. "Hm… The next trainer is Misty. She specializes in water types. Roselia will be perfect for this match. Feebas could also be useful since Misty likely has a pool in her gym," Ichigo thought. "Maybe I should train up Feebas in the nearby ponds."
He got out of bed and walked out of the Pokémon Center. Ichigo crossed the bridge connecting Cerulean City with Route 24. There were a few trainers on the bridge, all of whom Roselia, Vulpix, and Metang easily handled. The last trainer on the bridge was a young man with dark blue hair, a pink short-sleeve polo shirt, and blue jeans. He smirked at Ichigo.
"Prepare to lose," he said arrogantly.
Ichigo ignored the taunt and started with Metang. "You can have the first move," Ichigo said.
"Looks like an easy win," the trainer smirked. "Use Flamethrower!" he ordered.
"Cha!" Charmander yelled as it released a massive blast of fire, hitting Metang directly in the chest.
"Tang," Metang grunted, undeterred.
"Use Take Down," Ichigo commanded. Metang dove toward Charmander, ignoring the Flamethrower.
"Dodge it!" the trainer shouted, but Metang crashed into Charmander with full force. The impact sent Charmander tumbling to the ground, leaving the trainer fuming.
"You useless thing!" the trainer yelled at his Charmander, waking it up. He grabbed the Poké Ball and, in a fit of rage, threw it to the ground, stomping on it until it cracked. He kicked the broken Poké Ball, scattering the pieces, and stormed off.
"Char." Charmander slowly stood up, following its trainer, clearly confused by the harsh treatment. The trainer turned to it one last time.
"YOU'RE NOT MINE, YOU WEAK THING!" he yelled, kicking Charmander in the chest before walking away.
Ichigo ran to the injured Charmander and gently scooped it up. "Nurse Joy, please help this injured Charmander," he said as he placed it carefully on the counter.
"Very well," Nurse Joy said, picking up the injured Charmander and carrying it to the back room. She returned quickly to the front counter. "I've called Officer Jenny to investigate this abuse," she added.
Soon, Officer Jenny arrived at the Pokémon Center and pulled Ichigo aside.
"Hello, I'm Officer Jenny, in charge of this city," she introduced herself. "And you are?"
"Ichigo Kurosaki."
She pulled out a recorder. "I'm going to ask you a few questions, and they will be recorded as evidence. Do you have any questions?"
"No," Ichigo replied.
With that, Officer Jenny turned on the recorder. "This is Officer Jenny of the Cerulean Police Division, currently investigating a reported case of Pokémon abuse. Ichigo Kurosaki is the primary witness in this case. Ichigo Kurosaki, are you aware that you are being recorded?"
"I am," Ichigo confirmed.
"Are you also aware that everything recorded will be used as evidence in this case of Pokémon abuse?"
"I am," Ichigo replied.
"Please describe what happened."
Ichigo provided a detailed description of Charmander's former trainer and the events that unfolded.
"This concludes the questioning of Ichigo Kurosaki regarding the reported case of Pokémon abuse," Officer Jenny said as she turned off the recorder.
Nurse Joy walked over to them. "I have some good and bad news," she said.
"What's the good news?" Ichigo asked.
"Charmander will make a full recovery in the future," Nurse Joy said.
"What's the bad news?" Ichigo asked, concerned.
"Charmander may be difficult to control in the future," she explained. "There have been reports of Chameleons and Charizards that completely disobey or distrust their trainers."
"I see…" Ichigo replied, absorbing the information. "May I take care of Charmander?" he asked.
"You wish to take care of Charmander, despite what I just said?" Nurse Joy asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I do," Ichigo confirmed.
"I won't stop you if Charmander decides to join you," she said.
"How long will it take for Charmander to make a full recovery?" Ichigo asked.
"It should take a few days," Nurse Joy answered.
"Great," Ichigo said as he stood up. "I'll be training my Pokémon in the meantime," he said, ready to move forward.
Nurse Joy nodded. "I'll keep an eye out in case I see that trainer again."
"So will I," Officer Jenny added, stepping forward. She walked up to Ichigo and left the Pokémon Center.
"Can I see him?" Ichigo asked.
"Sure," Nurse Joy replied. She escorted Ichigo to the back room where Charmander rested. Ichigo walked carefully to the injured Pokémon.
"$: Who are you? :$" Charmander asked, though, to everyone else, it sounded like "Char."
"I can understand Charmander with Parseltongue," Ichigo thought.
"Hello, little one," Ichigo said gently, placing his hand on Charmander's side and letting some of his reiatsu flow into it. "Stay here and recover. Once you're feeling better, I'll help you become the strongest Charizard and make that fool regret abandoning you," Ichigo promised.
"$: Ok. You feel much better than my old trainer :$," Charmander replied as it drifted off to sleep.
Ichigo quietly stood up and left the room. He looked back at Nurse Joy. "I'll continue training on Route 24 and come back in the evening to check on Charmander," Ichigo said.
Nurse Joy nodded. "Very well," she replied as Ichigo left the Pokémon Center.
Now then, I know what many of you are thinking… Ichigo's team is OP this early in the Arc. That is true but keep in mind that Vulpix, Metang, Roselia, Feebas, and Ralts were successful creations from genetic manipulation. It makes sense that Team Rocket is somewhat able to do it, after all, they did create Mewtwo by manipulating Mew's DNA. While Team Rocket can do this, doesn't mean that all the Team Rocket Grunts/Admin/Giovanni will have genetically modified Pokémon. I imagine that the science department split into a few departments, one that tried to clone genetically modified Pokémon (the same one that eventually created Mewtwo) while another one focusing on genetic modification through breeding (what Ichigo's Pokémon are).
Author's notes:
One of the Pokémon that Professor Oak had in the unused data from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green.
In the anime, Cameran Palace was originally a place in Kanto, but I decided to relocate it to Sinnoh since that's where you can first get a Lucario. Riley, both game and anime versions, are also present in this region.
The National Dex contains all the regular and fossil Pokémon. All the Legendries and Mythical Pokémons are not included in the National Dex.
Beldum is floating all the time and Metang and Metagross could learn Magnet Rise though level up.
