April Showers
Mary and Matthew happily made their way around the grounds, arm and arm as they talked endlessly.
"Oh, imagine. We can eat dinner, say goodnight, then go sleep in the same bed." Matthew's eyes had a twinkle in them as he spoke about this topic for the thousandth time since they had been engaged.
"I'm not sure we'll be sleeping much for the next few months." Mary smirked.
He stopped their walking, turning to face her. "I wasn't going to say it again."
"Because you wanted me to?" Her eyebrows raised.
His hand moved to her back and pulled her towards him. "Possibly…"
She laced her fingers behind his neck. "Well, I'll say it until it happens." She muttered, eyes wandering around his face.
"I can't wait until it does." He leaned forward, pressing his lips to hers.
Mary closed her eyes, getting lost in the passion of the kiss.
Drop...
Drop.
Then the sky opened up.
"Ah!" Mary exclaimed, breaking out of the kiss, head shooting up to the sky.
"That was unexpected." Matthew said loudly to be heard over the rain as he laughed heartily.
She grabbed his hand, beginning to run back towards the Abbey.
They gasped for air as they finally reached the doors, trying to catch their breath before they went inside.
"You know, even soaking wet, you're gorgeous." Matthew chuckled, pulling off his coat.
She rolled her eyes, but smiled softly. "How lucky am I, to marry a man who recognizes that fact." The mischief in her expression wouldn't have been obvious to all, but he knew her.
"How lucky am I, to marry a woman who has such a quick wit, strong will, loving heart, not to mention is the most beautiful human being to ever walk this Earth…"
"Oh, pipe down." Her laughter bubbled up. "And come here." She took his face in her hands and pulled him in for another kiss.
He melted into it, holding on tight.
"I was wondering where they'd run off to." Thomas raised a brow, setting a tray of tea down on the table.
Cora glanced over, a hand going over her mouth. "Mary's always been the impatient type. She doesn't want to wait longer than she must." Her eyes shone as she smirked.
Thomas glanced over. "I believe Mr. Crawley is the same."
"They're a simply perfect match."
