Family Can Comes As If By Magic

Chapter 23

Later that day, while waiting for their parents to pick them up, Athena made the excuse of need to look at something and quickly slips into the large crowd of students and parents as she finally spots her Uncle.

"Hey Uncle Cedric!" Athena said as she walks up to the man.

Cedric smiles slightly as he said, "Greeting, Athena where is Sofia, she is normally with you." looking around a bit confused and concerned.

Athena dismisses that by saying, "Don't worry she is busy starting her homework, can I talk with you in private?" she asked.

Raising a eyebrow at that, he nods as he follows the girl off to a more secluded area of school's grounds, he watches at the girl seems to brace herself as she stands up her full height and looks Cedric in the eye.

"Sofia told me about what happened and honestly Uncle you are being a jerk." she states bluntly.

Cedric was a bit shocked at hearing that, but he looks at the girl sternly.

"While I understand that you are simply looking out for your friend, I will show me respect."

Athena sighs sadly, "Do you know that Sofia has been a wreck these past few weeks, do you know that she hasn't been sleeping or even eating much, I had to help her avoid detention because she nearly falls asleep in class, she nearly cried herself sick when she told me what had happened, she knows that she had a terrible mistake and that her breaking your trust is eating her alive, please Uncle help her." she said as she let a few tears a escape her eyes.

Cedric was speechless and then he notices something or rather someone out of the corner of his eye, he looks over his shoulder to see Sofia standing not too far from they were standing her face blank, but her eyes flashed with many emotions as she turns away and walks towards the carriages, ignoring her friends pleads.

"Sofia! Please!" Athena begged as she ran after her friend, only to have the girl's wand pointing between her eyes, the silence was deafening as everyone watched with baited breath to see what would happened next for the close friends, even Cedric himself was hesitant to intervene at first, but then he quickly gained his senses as he summons Sofia's wand to him, which was enough for Sofia to realize what she had just done, her face turned ashen, her legs buckled from under her as she grabs her head as if in pain and starts to scream, causing her magic to act erratic.

Cedric was quick to shield everyone from the unstable magic as he scoops her up and without another word disappears in a puff of smoke.

They soon landed in his parents home in Mystic Meadows, at some point Sofia had stopped screaming, as she now sat staring blankly at nothing, while Cedric yells out for his parents.

Winfred came running in and when she saw the state of her granddaughter she immediately shouts for Goodwyn who was not far behind his wife, he sees the child and starts to wave his wands in a series of complex gestures and symbols, the magic growing and glowing around Sofia like a cocoon until she was completely incased in it, she was now a sleep with a cocoon of what appeared to be healing magic surrounding her tiny body, Cedric watches with concerned and fear as his father slumped on his mother after finishing whatever he did to his child.

Waiting for his father to be settled on the couch, Cedric quickly started to asked.

"What happened?"

Goodwyn sighs tiredly as he said, "Your child was having a magical meltdown, basically it's the same a mental breakdown in mortals, but for Magical users like us, it can be deadly if not caught right away, if I hadn't contained her magic, she would have killed us all, before her magic turned on her, the healing cocoon will help her magic heal whatever trauma has caused it, but be warned she will need help, while her magic might be stable, it doesn't mean that her mind is."

Cedric was ashen as he heard all of this as he sat down heavily on the chair next to the couch, "It's my fault." he mutters brokenly.

Both Goodwyn and Winfred frown at hearing that, so the mother goes to her youngest and hold him tightly.

"Whatever happened to Sofia is not your fault, Ceddy." She said trying to reassure.

The young sorcerer shakes his head as he starts to explained what had happened for the last two weeks as well mentioning the Glamor Potion she had in her system in the past before he took her into his custody .

Goodwyn thought about it and said, "While it is possible that the potion had some part in this, it's possible with everything going on, it finally caught with her and she simply snapped which is putting it lightly."

Cedric stayed silent as he stared at his sleeping child, who now started to look like him more and more as the magic worked, she had his wavy dark brown hair with reddish gray highlights at the ends, her face came more like Calista's face shape and while her eyes were closed at the moment he did wonder if she had kept her blue eyes or now his dark brown eyes or possibly her mother's green instead, then he notice that she had grown a bit more in height which meant she was going to be tall like him and his sister were.

When he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder, he looks briefly to see his father, before turning his attention back fully to his child.

"Do not blame yourself, Cedric, she will recover and then afterwards simply talk with her and listen to what she has to say."

Cedric nods before getting down onto the floor to lay next to the sleeping child, muttering a quick thanks when he felt a blanket and pillows appear for them, he soon fell into a fitful sleep.

When Sofia started to regain consciousness, she felt like her body weighted a lot, opening her eyes was a challenge as she was barely able to manage too see the glow of magic around her as it pulled her back under into the land of dreams and nightmares.

The next time she woke up, her body felt better then ever before like it felt more free, as she slowly opens her eyes, taking notice that she was in her grandparent's living room and then when she hears soft snoring next to her she turns to see her Papa laying next to her.

'How is he able to stand being near me after what I just did?' Sofia wondered sadly as she carefully sits up and moves away from her sleeping parent, but before she could even move, she felt the warm and safe arms of her father wrap around her.

"Sofia, stop, we need to talk about what happened." Cedric said as he held the squirming child close to him.

"NO! WE! DON'T!" Sofia cried as she tried to get out of her Papa's grip, in a desperate attempt to escape she did something she never ever did, she opens her mouth, and bites down hard on to the exposed fingers, ignoring her father's shouts of pain as he released his hold and she took the chance to run, but while her body was healed it was still pretty weak from her magic going haywire and so she soon collapsed on the floor her legs unable to hold her, she started to crawl, but soon her father was upon her and he gently scoops her up and walks over the couch, sitting down still cradling her close and for a while they said nothing, until Cedric finally broke the silence.

"Please talk to me." He pleaded softly, trying to holding back the tears that were threating to fall.

Sofia looks down in thought and for what felt like a long time, she sighs heavily, before looking back at her Papa.

"I am sorry that I am a failure." she said this so bluntly it broke Cedric's heart as he held her more closely as he said firmly.

"You are not a failure, you are a child who has, had a lot put on her from a very young age and I apologize about what happened two week earlier, I was scared when I had heard you had attempted to teleport without any training, I was suddenly reminded of all the horror stories we were told as children and I guess I acted out of fear and anger as you seemed to not care about your safety."

Sofia nodded in understanding.

"I am sorry too Papa, can we just go back to the way we were?" she asked hopefully.

Cedric thought about for a moment before nodding while saying, "Yes, but I think you need to talk with someone about what is going on in your mind, bottling up your emotions or problems will only cause this to happen again and while we were lucky this time..." he trails off.

Sofia sighs thinking that she was happy to finally get back to some kind of normal, she knew that what her Papa was asking and she decided to do it.

"Okay Papa, I'll try."
