FOREWARN: THIS CHAPTER IS SET right in the beginning of the film, at Mirabel's gift ceremony, so Antonio isn't included... yet.

Chapter 2: 50 years Ago...

Many years ago, A couple named Alma & Pedro Madrigal and their 3 children, Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno, were forced to flee from their village, during an armed conflict, alongside many other villagers. But during the escape, Alma's husband Pedro was killed by an army of soldiers, leaving Alma alone, with only her babies.

Her wedding candle suddenly provided her a miracle, and protected her and the rest of the villagers from the soldiers, and created not just a village, but a magical new home for her.

As the years passed, Alma's kids grew up, and when they were 5 years old, on a very special ceremony, the magic of the Encanto gave each of them magical gifts - Julieta got the gift of healing people with cooking, Pepa could control the weather based on her emotions, and Bruno, Alma's only son, had the ability to predict the future.

As the kids grew, so did the family; Julieta married a man called Agustin, and they had 3 daughters, Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel. Pepa married a man called Felix, and they had kids too - Dolores, and Camilo.

And the new Madrigal kids gained gifts on their ceremonies too - Dolores had the gift of super hearing, Camilo had the ability to shapeshift into other people, Luisa had the gift of superhuman strength, and Isabela could make flowers grow.

But Mirabel, Julieta & Agustin's youngest daughter, didn't have her gift, unlike her family.

Why?

Because, on her gift ceremony, her door magically vanished, for no reason whatsoever.

Everyone, Alma included, was bewildered at what had happened.

Alma asked Bruno to look into the future, and see if there was a reason why Mirabel hadn't received a gift.

But when he showed his family the vision, what Alma, Mirabel, and the Madrigals all saw was very bizarre indeed.

Now, in the Encanto movie, the vision was supposed to show an older Mirabel in front of a cracking Casita, meaning the Magic would be in danger.

But instead, it showed something very different:

It showed a big-headed boy wearing a red shirt with a yellow atom on it, with brown hair looking like the tip of a soft serve ice cream cone, and behind him in the background, giant things that sort of resembled chickens, and funny monster creatures that resembled eggs.

Alma and the family couldn't believe that such strange things could ever appear in Bruno's visions. She knew her son's visions did cause some unease and misfortune for the village, but never, in her whole life, had she thought her son's vision would not focus on Mirabel.

Even Mirabel was bewildered.

That night, just before she went to bed, Mirabel wrote down everything she saw in the vision, in a notebook, and made sure to hide it, so her family never knew. And she made a vow to the stars, and to her Abuelo Pedro in heaven, that when she was older, she would work out what everything in Bruno's vision meant.
