Chapter 15: First Days and Impressions

Agent BM: Yes it is.

Dadfrank: I don't know what that means

When Honey got to the bakery, she was a little nervous. Honey quickly adjusted her glasses, and got herself together.

"All right, Honey you built an empire, you can do a simple bakery job." she told herself.

She tightened her blue trench coat, and got out of her car. Inside the bakery, the smell of bread and pastries hit Honey's nose.

"(Sighs), I miss that smell." she whispered.

Then a woman with light skin, curly red hair, blue eyes, and freckles. She wore an orange blouse, blue jeans, brown shoes, and silver hoop earrings. She was also wearing a brown apron.

"Good morning, you must be Honey Potts, right?"

"Yes." Honey replied.

"I'm Molly Clark, the manager of this bakery."

"Nice to meet you, Molly. Glad to be here."

"Come on, I'll show you around."

And with that, Honey followed Molly into the back.

At P.S. 9723, Sophie walked down the halls, and found Mr. Martinez's classroom. She opened the door, and saw that Mr. Martinez was already in there, and a lot of her new classmates were there too.

When Mr. Martinez noticed her, he urged her to come in.

"Morning, Sophie."

"Hi, Mr. Martinez."

"Your seat is right there."

He pointed to an empty desk. Sophie went to her new desk which had her name on it and sat between two kids named Lucy and Kevin. As she took her purple coat, white scarf, and white mittens off, Mr. Martinez spoke up.

"Welcome back everyone, hope you had a good weekend. We'll begin in a few minutes, but first I have an announcement. We have a new student joining us, Sophie Shaw. Please make her feel welcome."

The other kids looked at Sophie. They smiled and greeted her happily. A girl with light skin, blonde hair kept up in a ponytail and held by a black bow, and brown eyes wearing a pink trench coat sat on the left side of her.

"A new student, haven't had one of those in a while. I'm Lucy." she said.

Lucy unbuttoned her pink coat and hung it behind her chair. She was dressed in black pants, black boots, a pink shirt with a my little pony on it, and a jean jacket. She also wore pearls and a necklace very similar to Honey's, along with silver hoop earrings, with some bracelets and a purple watch peeking from under her sleeves.

"I'm Sophie, nice to meet you. You got some nice jewelry there, you must have a bit of money." Sophie observed.

"You like my Tiffany necklace? I just got it for Christmas, it's so beautiful."

"No one cares about your necklace, sis." said the boy to the right of Sophie.

He had light skin, blue eyes, and black hair. He has a red coat hanging behind his chair and wore black pants, brown boots, a blue sonic the hedgehog shirt and a black zip up jacket on, with a black watch poking out of the sleeve.

He was currently reading a book titled "The Planes and Ships of WW2".

"That's my twin brother Kevin." Lucy introduced.

"Hi Kevin. And he's got a point. They're nice but they're nothing new to me, my mom wears that exact one everyday, and pearls." Sophie told Lucy.

"Your mom has good taste." replied Lucy, as she texted something on a phone.

"I like your Star Wars shirt, you like Clone Wars too?" Kevin asked.

Sophie looked down at her shirt, it had Anakin skywalker and Obi wan Kenobi on it, just a random long sleeved shirt she put on.

"Yeah, I love the show."

"Sweet, me too, I love Star Wars. Maybe we can talk about it sometime."

"Sounds like fun."

And then, the morning announcements came on.

At the garage, Zeke met his new boss and was being shown around for orientation.

"I hope you'll be able to adjust to our garage, Zeke." his boss told him.

"Don't worry, I'm pretty adaptable." Zeke assured.

He was shown where the supplies was kept, the office, the locker room/break room, and he was introduced to the other workers.

"So ready to get started?"

"Yes, I am."

"Well let's get you set up with a customer."

And with that, he led Zeke to a spot where he could start working.

With Zack at daycare, things were going pretty good with him. He was happily playing with the toys and other toddlers.

Back at the bakery, Honey was back in the kitchen washing dishes. She had her hair in a hairnet, and a brown apron over her clothes. She was also wearing yellow rubber gloves. As she washed the pots, pans, utensils, and baking tools Molly came to check on her.

"So how're the dishes coming, Honey?" she asked.

"They're okay. Though this isn't exactly what I pictured for my first day as a baker." Honey replied.

"(Chuckles), well Honey dish washing is how all newbies start out. But after a couple of days we'll see what you're capable of making."

"Oh, I think you'll like what I'm to bake."

At Sophie's school, she'd met her other classmates. There was Joshua, the brainy kid who always got the highest grade in class. Jessica, the girly girl who likes pink, unicorns, and frilly things. Edward, a sickly boy who always seemed to be suffering from allergies.

Vincent, the tough yet sensible boy. Conner, the class athlete. Sasha the class clown who liked to tell jokes and make her classmates laugh. And lastly there was Hannah, the nice and quiet girl. Mr. Martinez proved to be a pretty nice and good teacher.

He explained things in a clear and simple way. He also made sure no one was getting confused or left behind. And at recess, she played with Kevin and at lunch she sat with him and and some of the guys.

Zeke was proving to be a very capable mechanic. He was able to find issues with cars, explain in a clear and simple way what the issues were with the customers, and he was also friendly and helpful.

The other workers liked Zeke's work ethic, and got along well with him.

Then at the end of Honey's shift she got ready to pick up Sophie and Zack.

"It was a pleasure to have you here, Honey. I'm looking forward seeing you again tomorrow." Molly told her.

"Thanks, Molly. But I was wondering if I could just go right into the baking part of the job."

Molly gave a sweet smile.

"Sorry, Honey. But all newbies have to do dish duty, unless you have some mean baking skills."

"Well I have some pretty mean skills."

"Oh really? Well I'll tell you what tomorrow you can show me your skills. If I like what I see and taste I'll let you skip the dish washing."

"Deal."

And with that, Honey left the bakery. The second she stepped outside, she felt a rush of cold air even with her trench coat on.

"I can't believe my clothes are damp. Who knew washing dishes could cause so much discomfort."

She was definitely going to have to change when she got home. She went by the daycare and picked up Zack. His daycare teacher told her Zack had a good time and was a good little boy. Then she went to pick up Sophie.

"Hi, Mom." Sophie greeted, as she got in the car.

"Hey, Sophie. How was your first day of school?"

"It was good, Mom. My new classmates seem nice."

"That's good to hear. Now let's get home."

And off they went.

That night, the family sat down for dinner. Honey and Zeke picked up some pizza, bread sticks, and salad from a pizza place, and they invited Trevor and Wanda to join them.

"So how'd your first day go, Honey?" Wanda asked.

"Well, I spent most of the day washing dishes so not too bad. Molly said if I can bake something that impresses her I can go right to the baking."

"Well that shouldn't be a problem." Trevor told her.

"How was your day, Z?"

"It went well. I think I'm gonna like working at this garage." Zeke answered.

"Day." squealed Zack.

"(Chuckles), looks like Zack had a good day too." observed Zeke.

"I like my new school." Sophie mentioned.

"That's great to hear, dear." Wanda told her granddaughter.

The Shaws were truly fitting into Hiltop Springs.
