Ash: Battle of the Badge!
The Pokegang have finally returned to Viridian City. Alex is currently arguing over their latest adventure
"Look all I'm saying is if you're gonna fix a spaceship how does a baby's milk bottle help?" Alex asks
"I don't know!" Misty yells fed up,"Why are you harping on about this!"
"Because it doesn't make any sense! There is no logical way the Clefairy could have actually flown that ship out of the city." Alex points out
"When has anything ever been logical when it came to Clefairy." Brock points out,"You recall we saw them worshiping a giant space stone before right?"
"Huh. Alright good point Brock." Alex concedes
They pass the Pokemon Centre
"Oh hey look guys the Pokemon Centre's been fixed." Ash says
"What happened to the Pokemon Centre?" Brock asks confused
"Ash and Team Rocket destroyed it the last time we were here." Misty answers
"It wasn't my fault!" Ash insists,"Team Rocket were the ones causing all the explosions!"
"Man I can't believe it's been months since we were last here." Alex says surprised,"And how much has changed in that time."
He scratches his Eevee who is riding on his head
"And now I can finally get my eighth badge and qualify for the Pokemon League!" Ash hops into the air excited
Pikapikachu!
They approach the gym. Alex sees the same two guards that stopped him from entering the last time
"Oh great. They're still here." Alex mumbles
"There it is. My final challenge." Ash looks determined,"I can't lose now. I'm on a hot streak!"
Ash's attempt at a monologue is suddenly interrupted by the sound of tires screeching and an obnoxious laugh. Gary and his cheerleaders pull up outside the gym
"Still playing with your cute little Pokepal hey Ash?" Gary asks
"Gary!" Ash yells
Alex groans,"Like this day couldn't get any worse."
"Gary! Gary! He's the best! Gary! Gary! Beats the rest!" Gary's cheerleaders cheer
"Thank you. Thank you." Gary takes a bow
"What are you doing here Gary?" Alex asks annoyed,"You already have more than enough badges to enter the Pokemon League."
"That is true." Gary shows off his ten badges again,"And I wasn't at all interested in getting another one, but then I saw you losers here so I just had to come and show you up."
"I'll show you!" Ash yells. Brock grabs him
"Easy Ash."
Gary hops out of his car laughing,"So predictable."
"You're one to talk." Misty snaps back
"Whatever. Now I'm gonna go see if the gym leader of this place wants to battle a real Pokemon trainer." Gary starts walking towards the gym's entrance. Ash pulls away from Brock and rushes up to him
"I am a real Pokemon trainer!" Ash yells,"I did something you didn't!"
"Oh yeah. And what was that?" Gary asks mockingly
"I beat the gym leader of Saffron City!" Ash shows off the Marsh Badge. Gary's eyes actually widen in shock for a few seconds
"Nice try Ashy-boy. That must be a fake."
"It's not a fake!"
Gary waves dismissively,"Sure sure. See ya later Ash."
Gary and his cheerleaders approach the doors. The guards move their axes allowing him to pass. Ash tries to rush in after him but the guards block the entrance
"Only one challenger is allowed at a time!" The guard yells
"But I have to get in there and challenge the Viridian City Gym Leader!" Ash yells
"That's the rule!" The guards yell
"Man they really are jerks." Alex rolls his eyes,"Come on Ash. We may as well wait."
"Gary..." Ash growls and heads back over to his friends,"If I don't do something fast then Gary is gonna get way ahead of me."
"Uh reality check Ash. Gary's been ahead of you from the start." Misty points out
Ash suddenly collapses to the ground depressed
"Maybe you could just be a little easier on Ash right now." Brock whispers
"I was just being honest." Misty defends herself
Ash is tracing circles on the ground and muttering to himself depressed,"Maybe I'm not the greatest Pokemon trainer yet,but I care about my Pokemon just as much as anybody else does. Maybe even more."
Togepi sees how upset Ash is and decides to head over to comfort him. It pats Ash on the shoulder comfortingly
"Thank you. You're the only one who always stands by me no matter what." Ash turns around and grabs the Pokemon,"Oh Pikachu!"
He then realizes that Pikachu is standing a few feet away from him
Pika?
"Pikachu?" Ash looks down and sees Togepi in his hands
Togi!
"Ahhh!" Ash throws Togepi into the air startled. Togepi somehow lands on a flag sticking out of the gym's wall and bounces into the air. In a miraculous coincidence at the exact same time a Fearow opens it's mouth to yawn,Togepi lands in it's mouth and gets stuck
Everyone,even Pikachu and Eevee,react in shock as the Fearow flies off in a panic taking Togepi with it
"Togepi!" Misty yells. She then grabs Ash and starts shaking him furiously,"Why did you do that to my precious little Togepi!"
"Misty it was an egg-cident!" Ash yells. Misty stops shaking him confused and Ash grins goofy,"Get it?"
Misty starts pummeling him
"Ow! Ow! Ow!"
"Misty stop!" Brock pulls Misty away,"Let's go!"
Brock and Misty chase after the Fearow. Alex helps Ash up
"If it makes you feel better I thought it was funny." Alex says
"Thanks Alex." Ash groans,"We better go find Togepi before Misty kills me."
The two of them plus Pikachu and Eevee rush off
Meanwhile Team Rocket are perched on top of a building. They're using binoculars to scan through the city
"I don't see those twerps anywhere." Jessie complains
Fearow flies over the building and Togepi manages to get loose. It falls down and smacks James on the butt
"Ooh! What did you do that for Meowth!" James yells
"Hmm? I don't know what you're talking about." Meowth responds
"Don't play stupid! I demand to know why you just kicked me!" James exclaims
"Don't flatter yourself! I wouldn't waste my time kicking you!" Meowth exclaims
Togi Togi Priii
They all turn towards the noise and see Togepi standing there, bouncing around happily
"Togepi!"
"Quick grab it!" Jessie yells and James grabs Togepi
"We got it! The boss will love this!" Jessie declares
"Gary! Gary! He's our man! If he can't beat em nobody can!" Gary's cheerleaders yell as Gary stands arrogantly on the gym battlefield. On the opposite side of the battlefield, on the floor above and hidden in the shadows,is the gym leader. He is sitting on a throne caressing a Persian
"I am the Gym leader of Viridian City." He says,"And who might you be?"
"Gary Oak! The best Pokemon trainer in Pallet!" Gary exclaims
The gym leader chuckles,"Confident aren't you? Alright. I accept your challenge."
He rises from his throne and steps closer
"We will use three Pokemon each." Giovanni states,"Let's see if you can back up that confidence."
He picks up a pokeball and points it towards the battlefield. The red beam from the Pokeball shoots out and Kangaskhan appears on the field
Kangaskhan!
"I choose Nidoking!" Gary throws his pokeball and Nidoking emerges on the field
Nidoking!
"Battle begin!" The referee yells
"Kangaskhan use Pound." Giovanni orders and Kangaskhan rushes forward
"Nidoking block it's Pound and then retaliate with Double Kick!" Gary yells
Nidoking sticks his arm out blocking the strike from Kangaskhan. He then jumps into the air and kicks Kangaskhan with both his feet knocking the Parent Pokemon back. She seems hurt from the attack but otherwise still able to fight
"Now Nidoking use-" However before Gary can finish his instructions Giovanni suddenly returns Kangaskhan,"What?"
"The Gym Leader has withdrawn his Pokemon and eliminated it from the match!" The referee yells
"Why did you do that for!" Gary yells. Giovanni just chuckles
"Try your luck with this Pokemon." Giovanni points his next pokeball at the field. This time a Golem appears
Golem!
"Fine whatever. You're just making my victory easier!" Gary yells
"Golem use Rollout."
Golem curls into a ball and rolls straight towards Nidoking. Nidoking sticks out it's arms and manages to stop Golem's momentum
"Throw it!" Gary yells and Nidoking lifts Golem over it's head before flinging it backwards. It slams into a wall
Golem!
"Woo!" Gary's cheerleaders yell,"Gary's number one! Gary's number one!"
"That's right!" Gary smirks
Giovanni suddenly returns Golem too
"Hey! What's the big idea here!" Gary yells at Giovanni who just has a smirk on his face
"Are you scared to battle me?" Gary asks annoyed. Then he scoffs,"That must be it! You know you can't beat me so you'd rather forfeit!"
"Gary is the best! He beats all the rest!" Gary's cheerleaders yell
Giovanni suddenly starts laughing getting Gary's attention,"Is that really what you think?"
"Yeah that's what I think!" Gary yells
Giovanni rubs his hands together,"Well then I'd like to propose a challenge. One more battle to test out my most powerful Pokemon."
Giovanni snaps his fingers and a mechanical door on the battlefield starts rising. A mysterious Pokemon emerges from the room dressed in mechanical armour. It's eyes start glowing a blue colour and Gary is taken back when Nidoking is suddenly flung across the room
"Nidoking!" Gary yells in shock
Gary's cheerleaders scream and dodge out of the way as Nidoking flies past them and slams into the wall where they were standing
"What Pokemon is that?" Gary asks in shock and points his Pokedex at the mysterious Pokemon
No data
"No data!" Gary exclaims in shock
"Now as I was saying," Giovanni speaks up to get Gary's attention,"I'd like to test out this Pokemon of mine in battle,and go ahead use more than one Pokemon if you're afraid to lose."
Gary grinds his teeth together,"Afraid to lose? I don't lose! Nidoking get back up!"
Nidoking gets back to his feet and gets ready for battle
"Arcanine you help too!" Gary tosses his pokeball and his Arcanine appears
Arcanine!
Both Pokemon rush towards Giovanni's mysterious Pokemon. Giovanni watches amused
"Is that your best?"
The mysterious Pokemon's eyes start glowing again and Nidoking and Arcanine are stopped in their tracks. They are both lifted into the air and start struggling to break free. Gary stares up at them terrified
"Arcanine...Nidoking..."
"Don't waste your time. This is the ultimate Pokemon." Giovanni smirks at Gary,"It can never be beaten."
While this whole battle was going on, the Pokegang have split up and are running around Viridian City looking for Togepi. Ash,Alex,Pikachu and Eevee meet up with each other
"Any sign of Togepi?" Ash asks worried
"Nah nothing." Alex says,"Where could it have gone too?"
Giovanni is sitting in his office. His Persian is sleeping next to him and he is stroking it. The doors to his office open and Jessie,James and Meowth enter
"Sir." They say and bow
"Jessie. James. It's been awhile since I heard from you." Giovanni says
"We apologize sir. We've been busy." James says,"But we did bring you a rare Pokemon we caught."
"It's a cutie too." Meowth says
"Togepi." Jessie presents Togepi to Giovanni. He seems...indifferent
"A Togepi?" Giovanni asks in disbelief
"Uh yes sir." They reply suddenly nervous
"You have been radio silent for months, and the first time I hear from you,you give me a Togepi?" Giovanni asks,"What am I supposed to do with this?"
"It um...it would make a very handsome paperweight." Jessie suggests
Giovanni stares at them exasperated,"Why I keep you three around sometimes..." Giovanni sighs,"Fine. Atleast you contributed. That's more than I can say for certain agents lately."
"Who is he talking about?" James whispers to Jessie and Meowth who both shrug. Giovanni's phone starts ringing while the trio whisper to each other
"Yes?" Giovanni answers the phone. His eyes suddenly narrow and he slams his fist against the desk startling the trio and causing them to drop Togepi,"What!"
"Sir what's the matter?" James asks
Giovanni ignores them though,"When?"
He listens for a few seconds and then puts the phone down,"There has been an emergency. I must leave at once."
He tosses three pokeballs towards the trio,"You three are in charge of the gym in my absence. If any challengers arrive use these Pokemon."
"Yes sir!" They salute and Giovanni exits through the secret passage in his office. The trio stare at the pokeballs in awe
"Did you hear that?" James asks
"We're in charge of the gym." Jessie says in disbelief
"Which means we've been promoted." Meowth says
"We're gym leaders!" They yell
"Hey where did Togepi go?" Meowth asks realizing Togepi has wandered off
"Oh who cares. We have more important things to do now." Jessie says
Giovanni,who is being accompanied by his two guards,heads down into his secret lab. He has a scowl on his face
"A mutiny! Who does that fool think he is!" Giovanni's fists clench together. Him and his guards reach a machine that Giovanni's mysterious Pokemon appears to be plugged into
"I have an emergency assignment for you." Giovanni says and pulls a lever. The wires plugged into the Pokemon's armour pull out,"We leave at once."
The Pokegang meet back up outside of the Viridian Gym
"Did you see Togepi?" Misty asks
"I couldn't find it anywhere." Brock says
"Oh..." Misty presses her palms to her eyes and starts crying,"I'm so worried! What if Togepi's scared and crying right now!"
Her despair quickly transforms into anger as she turns towards Ash,"This is your fault!"
"Misty wait..." Ash tries to back away terrified but Misty grabs him and starts shaking him
"If anything happens to Togepi I'll never forgive you!" Misty yells
Brock and Alex start trying to pry Misty off of Ash. While this is going on the gym doors are slowly pushed open
"Misty killing Ash won't help find Togepi." Brock insists
"Well it makes me feel better!"
Togi Togi
"Huh?" Everyone turns towards the sound and sees Togepi standing in the doorway
Priiii
"Togepi!" Misty rushes over and picks up Togepi. She hugs it,"Thank goodness you're safe."
"How did it get inside the gym?" Alex asks
"Maybe there's a roof entrance or something." Brock suggests,"And the Fearow dropped it off."
"I don't care." Misty says,"I'm just happy we're back together."
"Me too." Ash says

"Look over there!" Brock suddenly yells as he looks further in the gym. On the battlefield,laying unconscious,are Gary and his cheerleaders
"Gary!" Ash and Alex rush into the gym. Ash kneels down and lifts Gary up,"Gary! Gary wake up!"
Brock and Misty are helping the cheerleaders up in the meantime. Gary slowly opens his eyes
"Ash?" Gary asks weakly
"Yeah it's me Gary." Ash says
"Gary what happened?" Alex asks concerned
"It...it's here..." Gary answers,"A Pokemon...a Pokemon that we've never seen...it was here...But there's something different about this Pokemon...it's evil..."
"Evil?" Ash asks confused
Brock is comforting the cheerleaders
"I can't believe Gary lost..." They all suddenly start crying startling Ash and causing him to drop Gary. Alex manages to catch Gary though before he hits the ground
"Why are you making such a big deal about one lost battle!" Misty yells and the cheerleaders stop crying
"If I cried like that everytime Ash lost a battle I'd be waterlogged!"

Ash falls over embarrassed,"She's kidding!"
"Is she?" Alex asks as he helps Gary stand. Gary leans against him for support
"One thing's for sure." Gary says still in shock,"No one will ever beat that Pokemon."
"Gary seriously...what happened to you?" Alex asks really concerned
He experienced some trouble!
And we're about to make it double!
A spotlight suddenly shines onto a platform on the gym battlefield. Standing on the platform is Team Rocket
"It's them!" Ash yells
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie: Jessie!
James: James!
Jessie: Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light!
James: Surrender now or prepare to fight!
Meowth: Meowth! That's right!
"What are you doing here!" Misty demands
Chu!
"What are we doing here?" Jessie asks,"What are you doing here!"
"I'm here for my eighth gym badge!" Ash yells. Team Rocket starts laughing
"That's perfect!" James exclaims
"Because we so happen to be the new gym leaders!" Jessie yells
"What!" Ash,Alex,Brock and Misty yell in shock
Pikachu!
Eevee!
"That's right!" Meowth yells,"So if you want that badge so badly,you'll have to defeat us!"
Jessie pulls out the Earth Badge for emphasis
"Why are you guys gym leaders?" Alex asks
"That's top secret Team Rocket information!" Jessie yells,"Need to know basis!"
"This gym must be controlled by Team Rocket." Brock realizes,"But why would they want a gym?"
"Who cares!" Ash yells,"I want that Earth Badge and I'm gonna get it!"
"Well then twerp step onto the battlefield and let's begin." Jessie says as James and Meowth climb off the platform. Ash steps towards his corner of the battlefield
"Becareful Ash." Misty says,"Who knows what tricks they're up to."
"I've got this Misty." Ash says confidently and steps into his corner. The ground suddenly starts rising,"Ah! What's happening!"
"We prepared this platform just for you." Jessie says,"It has some...surprises in store."
Ash growls,"Fine. I can handle them."
"What's going on?" Gary asks Alex confused,"And did that Meowth actually talk or am I hallucinating."
"Trust me. It would be better if you were." Alex replies,"Meet Jessie,James and Meowth. They've been stalking us for months now."
"We'll be battling with three Pokemon each!" Jessie yells
"Let's battle!" Ash yells
Jessie suddenly throws all three of her Pokeballs and a Rhydon,Sandslash and Marowak appear
Rhydon!
Sandslash!
Maro Marowak!
"They're all ground types Ash." Brock tells Ash who nods
"Then I'll use..." Ash reaches for three pokeballs
"Hold it!" Jessie yells,"Only the gym leader may use all three Pokemon at once! The challenger can only use one Pokemon!"
"That's cheating!" Misty yells
"Those are the special rules of this gym!" Jessie yells back,"Gym leader says so!"
Ash shakes his head,"In that case go Squirtle!"
Squirt Squirtle!
"Rhydon! Sandslash! Marowak! Get em!" Jessie yells and all three Pokemon rush towards Squirtle
"Squirtle look out!" Ash yells but Squirtle can't dodge all three Pokemon and they slam into the Tiny Turtle Pokemon
Squirtle!
Suddenly the ground beneath Ash starts sparking and Ash is electrocuted
"Ahhhhhhhhh!"
"Ash!" Misty and Brock yell concerned
"What just happened!" Alex yells
"Oh that's a special feature at our gym." James answers,"That box is set up so that the trainer will feel the same pain the Pokemon feels."
Ash has hunched over in pain. Jessie laughs
"Not so eager to battle now are you?" Jessie taunts him
Gary looks on concerned,"He can't win..."
The combined attacks have knocked Squirtle out. The electrocution stops and Ash weakly recalls Squirtle before throwing his next pokeball,"Bulbasaur...go..."
"Get that Bulbasaur!" Jessie yells and her Pokemon rush towards the Seed Pokemon
"Bulbasaur...Vine Whip!" Ash yells and Bulbasaur shoots out it's vines. It hits both Rhydon and Marowak head on
Rhydon!
Marowak!
The floor beneath Jessie suddenly sparks and electrocutes her
"Ahhhhhhhh!"
"Oh no." James realizes
"James! Why did you set it up to give shocks on both sides!" Jessie asks
"I didn't think it would matter! It didn't occured to me that we could actually lose!" James replies
Meowth rolls his eyes,"Luckily I made this special gadget in case we do lose."
Meowth pulls out a remote control with two buttons on it,"If things get too bad I'll just hit the button and goodbye competition!"
Gary,who is standing under his own power again,notices the remote.
Meanwhile back on the battlefield Bulbasaur has successfully dodged Sandslash's swipes by jumping into the air
"Razor Leaf Bulbasaur!" Ash yells and Bulbasaur fires the Razor Leaf downwards hitting Sandslash directly in the face
Slash!
"Ahhhhh!" Jessie yells as she's electrocuted again. Sandslash has been knocked out by the attack
"Yeah! Nice going Ash!" Misty cheers
Jessie growls,"Rhydon use Take Down!"
Rhydon starts charging towards Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur uses it's vines to shove itself to the side and dodge the attack
"Bulbasaur behind you!" Ash yells
It's too late though as Marowak's bone flies through the air and collides with Bulbasaur
Sauuuurrrr!
"Ahhhhhhhhhhh!" Ash screams
Rhydon then grabs Bulbasaur and slams it into the ground and fainting it. Ash screams again as he's electrocuted
"Ash stop!" Brock yells,"This isn't worth it!"
Ash shakes off the shocks and returns Bulbasaur,"I'm fine Brock! Pikachu's Thunderbolt is way stronger! Isn't that right buddy?"
Chu?
"Go Primeape!" Ash tosses his pokeball and Primeape emerges
Primeape! Primeape!
"You can do this Ash!" Alex yells. He glances around and notices Gary is gone,"Huh? Where did Gary go?"
"Come on Jessie!" James yells,"You can win this!"
"Rhydon use Bulldoze!" Jessie yells
Rhydon raises it's foot up before stomping it on the ground. A yellow shockwave shoots out across the battlefield. Primeape leaps into the air to avoid the attack...Marowak unfortunately gets hit
Marowak!
"Ahhhhh!" Jessie falls to her knees from the electric shocks,"That didn't go to plan!"
Marowak tosses it's bone towards the still airborn Primeape
"Primeape look out for the bone!" Ash yells
Primeape turns and catches the bone in midair before throwing it back towards Marowak. Marowak's eyes widen and it turns and starts running
Maro! Maro! Marowak!
The bone hits the back of it's head
Marowak!
"Quick Primeape while it's stunned! Use Cross Chop!" Ash yells
Primeape rushes towards Marowak with it's forearms crossed. They start glowing right before it makes contact with Marowak
Wakkkkk!
Marowak is knocked out by the attack. Gary's cheerleaders cheer
"Almost there Ash!" Misty yells,"Just one left!"
"I can't believe I'm losing!" Jessie yells,"Meowth push the button!"
"Aye aye." Meowth is about to press the button on his remote
"No you don't!" Gary suddenly tackles Meowth
"Ahhhh!" The remote goes flying out of Meowth's hands
"Where did he come from!" James yells confused
"Primeape use Cross Chop on Rhydon!" Ash yells and Primeape rushes towards Rhydon
"Rhydon Horn Drill!" Jessie yells and Rhydon's horn starts spinning
"Ash don't let Primeape get hit by that!" Brock yells
"Primeape look out!" Ash yells
Primeape ducks underneath Rhydon's horn before uppercutting it
Rhydon!
Rhydon is knocked backwards and Primeape grabs it's foot as he leaps into the air
"Seismic Toss!" Ash yells and Primeape starts spinning with Rhydon in the air
Primeape!
Primeape slams Rhydon into the ground knocking it out
"Ahhhhhhhhhh!" Jessie falls to the ground
"We did it!" Ash yells and hops off his platform,"We won!"
Primeape!
Ash hugs Primeape. Pikachu rushes over and joins in on the hug
Pikapi!
Misty and Brock are so overjoyed they're speechless. Meanwhile Gary's cheerleaders have started cheering for Ash
"He's the winner! He's our Ash! Let's all have a victory bash! He's the victor! He's our man! No one wins like Ketchum can!"
Gary is genuinely stunned,"Huh. I hate to admit it...but that kid's a pretty good trainer."
James and Meowth are checking on Jessie,"Jessie? Jessie can you hear me?"
"Can you move?" Meowth asks. Jessie suddenly hops to her feet and starts pummeling them
"I'm lucky to be alive after what you did to me! Why did I get the shocks!"
"Hey Jessie!" Ash yells getting their attention,"I won the match fair and square! Now I want the Earth Badge I earned!"
"Well you're not getting it!" Jessie yells,"In fact after what I just went through I think I deserve something instead!
Jessie and James both pull out their pokeballs
"What are you doing!" Ash yells
"We're going to take your Pikachu!" Jessie yells
"Hey look what I found!" Everyone suddenly turns at the sound of Alex's voice. He's holding the remote,"I wonder what these buttons do."
"Wait don't!" Meowth yells but it's too late. Alex has pressed both buttons. Nothing happens
"Huh. That's disappointing." Alex says depressed
And then the ground beneath both platforms start exploding
"I think I might have wired this side too!" Meowth yells
The platform explodes and Team Rocket are sent blasting through the roof
"We're blasting off again!" ding
The explosions have caused the gym to start falling apart
"We have to get out of here!" Gary yells and everyone starts running out of the gym in a panic
"But my badge!" Ash yells when he notices an Earth Badge laying on the ground in the middle of the chaos
"There it is!" He rushes over and grabs it,"I got it! I won!"
Alex grabs him and drags him out,"Priorities Ash! Seriously!"
"You caused this!" Ash yells back as they escape the collapsing gym
"Is everyone alright?" Gary asks and gets a yes in response
"Whoever owned that gym is going to be furious." Alex notes as the gym fully breaks down in the background
"Well it's their fault for putting those three in charge." Misty shakes her head
Ash,Alex,Brock and Misty all laugh. Gary however looks unsettled as he thinks back to that mysterious Pokemon
(What if...)
Meanwhile inside the secret Team Rocket hideout,Andrew and his followers are preparing their takeover
"We'll strike the gym in the dead of night." Andrew explains,"Take down anyone that's loyal to Giovanni. But leave him for me."
The wall to the base is suddenly blown apart alerting Andrew and the others. Giovanni strolls in with his mysterious Pokemon behind him
