I DO NOT OWN TOTAL DRAMA (or mha)
BRICK
Brick was sound asleep in his bunk, dreaming of himself in a military uniform and fighting for his country on a nice sunny beach. It felt so perfect because it combined all his favorite things; military, beaches, combat, and of course, the sun. He was way too embarrassed to admit that he was afraid of the dark, he even had to shamefully lie and say he needed a night light for reading.
His dream was interrupted by the sound of a horn going off. He immediately got out of bed, got dressed, and got ready for the day, heading out of his room. As usual, he was the first one to arrive for roll call while the others were a few minutes behind. Once the Colonel was present, everyone stood at attention waiting for him to speak about today's announcements.
"Well now cadets, it would seem that we've developed a trend here." The colonel said, condescendingly and then pointed to Brick. "One where cadet MacArthur is always the first one before all of you. Proving why he's our star student and that all of you are proving how sloppy you are."
While Brick smiled and felt pride at being labeled as a star student, the other cadets were annoyed by this. Brick was oblivious to the glares directed at his head, of course that were good at hiding it so that the Colonel didn't notice either.
"Which is why I figured out how to remedy this issue." The colonel looked at all of them with a smirk. "After your classes today, I'm having all of you run laps around campus today. This'll teach you the importance of being faster on your feet. Cadet MacArthur is already ahead of all of you in that area though, so that means you are all already failing and we haven't even started yet."
The other cadets were stunned by this, even more annoyed with both Brick and the Colonel.
"Sir," One of the cadets spoke up this time. "How many laps would you like us to run?"
"Hmm." The colonel said mockingly, shrugging his shoulders. "I don't really have a number in mind. I guess we'll just have to keep going until the sun's no longer in the sky. Should give all of you a good amount of hours."
At this point, many of the cadets gave a groan in annoyance, which they came to regret as the colonel raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry, am I sensing an attitude among this motley crew?" The colonel asked sarcastically. "Well if that's the case, then I might as well add a catch to this after school activity. If I am not impressed with the progress you cadets make this afternoon, we'll try again the next day. Anyone have a problem with that?"
"Sir, no sir!" The cadets all said at the same time. The Colonel nodded in satisfaction, turning around.
"Good, I will see you all this afternoon at the front gate." The Colonel finally marched out the door and the other cadets finally groaned louder and were more expressive of their glares towards Brick. Of course, he was oblivious to all this as he and the other private headed to class.
It was now afternoon and as promised, the colonel was making all the cadets doing laps around the campus. As if the exercise wasn't bad enough, the Colonel had some men around the campus with clipboards to record their progress and to make sure no one bailed.
Unlike the rest of the cadets, Brick had no problems with any of this. Despite being tired, he kept on enduring with a determined smile. He made sure to give it his all, even trying to encourage his fellow cadets with a quick inspirational message like "don't give up" or "almost there, cadet". He was so focused on the exercise that he didn't feel his eyes roll in the back of his head and then return for a second.
As he was sprinting, he looked ahead and saw one of his fellow cadets, Jenkins, kneeling on the ground. He stopped next to Jenkins, noticing how exhausted he was. Jenkins finally noticed someone next to him, looking up to see Brick holding his hand out and giving him an encouraging smile.
"Come on soldier, you still have some fight left in you." Brick said confidently. Jenkins however, shook his head.
"Seriously MacArthur, I feel like I'm one step closer to passing out." Jenkins said, out of breath. "I have no idea how anyone else is still going."
"They've got the right motivation, Jenkins." Brick pointed to the sunset. "Look, suns almost gone. Which means we're that much closer to finishing this thing. The others realize that too and that's why they're working so hard. It's also why you've made it this far, you really want to give up now when you're so close."
Jenkins' mood changed when Brick pointed all this out. Seeing the logic and motivation in his statement, he reached up and grabbed Brick's hand. As Brick helped pull him up, something changed inside of Jenkins. He was no longer tired, in fact he felt like he had enough energy to run the entire night. He quickly went from panting and kneeling on the ground to bouncing on his feet. Even his dehydration seemed to disappear, as if he just drank 100 gallons of water.
"You sure are a natural at this soldier stuff, MacArthur." Jenkins said with a smirk. He then sprinted off. "Last one to the gate has to do the other one's chores."
Brick watched Jenkins go off stunned. He knew he was good at giving pep talks, but he didn't think it would be that effective on someone who's been running all afternoon. Whatever the reason, Brick sprinted off after Jenkins, determined to win.
