Ga Rei Hime

Twenty

Fujiko Mine sometimes felt like the little boy with his finger in a hole, uselessly trying to stop a flood. There were more and more entities emerging across Japan, and worse, the Agency was weaker than it had ever been.

Fujiko quietly cursed Mei Isayama. The young woman had been jealous of Yomi, the legendary Hunter, and had usurped her position as head of the Isayama family. Worse, she framed Yomi for murder, turning the Hunters against her. Yomi killed Mei, but the damage was done.

Yomi, crippled and betrayed by all, then willingly gave in to dark supernatural powers, turning against the agency and killing multiple Hunters, as well as the Japanese Army anti-entity unit.

The only survivor of THAT massacre was poor Natsuki Kasuga. Who did NOT survive, but was reanimated by Yomi for unknown reasons.

"Grandmother, you should be resting," the voice said.

Ayame Jinguuji, her much younger grand daughter, entered in her wheelchair, half her face swaddled in bandages.

"You should be too," Fujiko scolded.

Ayame had helped fight Yomi when she attacked the agency itself... ironically she had suffered serious injuries after escaping Yomi mostly unscathed.

"I hate that I got hurt and made you have to take the job back," Ayame said, frustrated.

"Not your fault," Fujiko said.

"At least let me help with the paperwork," Ayame offered. She sighed, "And you can vent over the various idiots in the Japanese Government."

Fujiko snorted softly.

A branch of the Japanese Gov't had decided they wanted the military to hunt entities, and had sunk millions into the plan. They had succeeded in a few operations, before running into the now corrupted Yomi. She massacared them and their whole support team. The government was scared and furious... worse, they blamed the Agency, since Yomi Had once been one of them.

"Are they still withholding funding?" Ayame asked.

"Yes," Fujiko sighed. "Supposedly it's a clerical error that will be resolved soon..."

"I assume they want us to produce Yomi for them?" Ayame said dryly. As Fujiko nodded she sighed, "I almost WANT to give them the Entity version of her..."

"They would certainly regret it," Fujiko agreed.

Ayame sighed, "Well, hopefully Kagura can stop her..."

Yomi Isayama had died, but that didn't actually slow her down much.

(Her cousin, Mei, had been possessed by a cursed amulet. It was likely she wouldn't have been able to face Yomi without it... and even with it, she still died. Then the amulet was offered to Yomi herself, and in a moment of weakness she accepted.)

Natsuki Kasuga would be profoundly annoyed to know that Yomi didn't care about the vortex around Fuka or the huge number of entities there. Yes, she was aware of it, of course, but her focus was elsewhere.

"Kagura...," the restless spirit sighed.

For years Yomi had loved Kagura. Beyond adopted sisters and all that.. she LOVED her. So much that Yomi had willingly died to save Kagura from herself.

Only she didn't STAY dead.

Now an powerful entity, Yomi was working to revive ancient beings and trigger a full on war between Entities and Humanity.

"THAT BOY IS HANGING AROUND MY KAGURA!" Yomi raged, spying invisibly.

Kensuke was (relatively) minding his own business, but Yomi didn't care. The brown haired boy in glasses was being FAR too close to Kagura.

"Maybe I can kill him or something," Yomi added jealously.

The various minor Entities that served her bobbed about, rather bemused by the whole situation.

"You need to get back to work," Kazuhiko Mitogawa appeared, the white haired shouta frowning at her.

Yomi fought the urge to try to kill him. The boy had given the power granting 'Bane Stone' to Mei, had had started the chain of events that triggered her fall. Bastard...

"I'm scouting our enemies," Yomi defended herself, "you never know when they might act."

"Like your spying on her in the lady's shower?" Kazuhiko noted dryly.

"Er...," Yomi sighed.

Kazuhiko continued, "We must revive the Kyubi Fox! It is our mission!"

'Right right,' Yomi thought with a sigh.

Natsuki Kasuga still kept a few secrets, even from her best friend Midori, and ESPECIALLY from the Hunters. Like how she was still in contact with the General who had oversaw the military program to fight Entities.

"Do you need support? We could..," Major General Uma Shamrock offered, the older woman talking to her over a secured line. They called each other once a week, at a set time, using an old fashioned land line to prevent interception.

"My savings are still fine," Natsuki replied to her quietly, "it's not like I'm paying much for anything, after all."

Neither one of them brought up that she was now a un-dead and not needing to buy food, etc etc. Uma, as her former commander, felt personally responsible for Natsuki's present situation and wanted to do SOMETHING for her.

Alas, there wasn't much either could do at this point.

"We... we had to notify your mother and family about your reported death," Uma said regretfully after a moment.

"Fuck," Natsuki winced. "How did she take it?" she asked her grimly.

"Badly," Uma admitted. "I heard your step sister crying in the background."

"... make sure they get my pension and such," Natsuki said after a moment.

"I will," Uma promised quietly.

"Okay... this area is still crawling with Entities, as we expected," Natsuki reported. "No sign of Yomi Isayama yet, and I'm no longer as sure she'll come here."

"We had assumed powerful Entities would be drawn to a magical vortex," Uma noted. "Were we wrong, then?"

Natsuki answered, "It's possible she'll come here eventually, and my being here is useful. I'm going to stick around."

Uma continued, "Understood. Contact me if you need more anti-entity ammo."

"Will do," Natsuki replied, "stay safe."

"You too."

Ayame Jinguuji sighed as her tall, boyish servant pushed the wheelchair.

"Trouble, miss?" Kyoko Tsumabuki asked quietly.

"Just tired. Take me back to my quarters, please," Ayame ordered.

"Of course," Kyoko agreed, and the two walked the halls until they reached her rooms.

Ayame watched as Kyoko removed a electronic device from her pocket, walking around the room intently.

"Clear?" Ayame asked.

"Clear. No bugs or other surveilance," Kyoko agreed.

Ayame sighed in relied, "Oh god, come here!"

Kyoko half pulled Ayame out of the wheelchair, both kissing ardently. "Mistress, so good," Kyoko muttered softly.

"Argh. Get these bandages off," Ayame growled.

Obediently, Kyoko unraveled them, soon revealing a unmarked face... and a 'bane stone' embedded in the other woman's cheek.

"Does itr hurt?" Kyoko asked, stroking her face gently.

"It's irritating, keeping it covered," Ayame sighed.

Kyoko kissed her again, lingeringly. "Don't worry," she murmured, "soon we'll kill your grandmother and reveal ourselves."

Ayame kissed her back then growled, "It can't come soon enough."

To be continued...

Notes: Yeah, this is MOSTLY a side chapter on the Ga Rei stuff. If you watch the anime Ga Rei Zero, Yomi VERY CLEARLY has feelings for her adopted sister Kagura that are much stronger than sisterly.

Uma Shamrock and Kyoko Tsumabuki are both from Mai Hime Sifr, while Ayame is from Ga Rei Zero.
