A/N. Reviews!
"Oooh Percy is going to need a sword in order to kill the prince because it's not with a little knife that he's going to win. Lucifer had a sword, didn't he ? So did the Warden before him. Hm... and i just realised that Lucifer chose Percy because he thought his reputation would be enough for him to take the throne and not have to quell a rebellion. Ha ! I'm not sure they've even ever heard of him before" -Ladis11
I mean, he could win with knife, however unlikely it is lmao. And yeah, I doubt Hell has heard of him. Heaven hasn't (But they will soon.)
"I can't wait for the hilarity that would ensue during the dinner! and thnx for the update Azazel's probably gonna crank it up a notch with the assassinations cause Percy literally stole his "toy"" -Sankarea396
I mean, I don't think it's really going to be funny, more awkward than anything. As for Azazel, he doesn't really care about the succubus, as the end of the last chapter revealed.
"Hiii! I really love this story and Im always looking forward to your next chapters! I'm curious to know what Azazel has been planning though. I hope he is planning something devious just for excitement hehehehe. I mean, I feel like a fighting scene is about to happen so why not make it exciting?" -Guest
Thank you! Azazel followup will be next chapter, don't worry. It should be pretty exciting!
Onto the chapter.
Chapter Eighteen
When Nico stopped by to announce that it was Wednesday, Percy immediately noticed the ring that adorned the Son of Hades' finger. It wasn't like Nico didn't wear rings, he did, his favorite was a silver one in the shape of a skull he wore on his middle finger. One could often notice that he would twist it whenever he was nervous.
This was a new ring, one made of gold, one Percy had never seen before. It was also on a specific finger. The ring finger on his left hand.
"Dude." Percy said, before pointing at the ring. "When?"
Nico smiled shyly. "You know how last week I asked you to send me to Italy?"
Percy nodded. "Yeah. Last week man? And you waited till now to tell me?"
"You're lucky I told you at all, asshole." Nico said, rolling his eyes.
"So, when's the wedding?"
Nico shrugged. "Haven't decided on a date. We're not like you and Artemis, who had the Gods plan it for us." Nico paused. "Well, my dad's helping plan it. Something about bonding with me? I don't know."
"Your father… wedding planning?"
"Who would've thought, I know."
"Well, congrats man. That's super cool."
Nico's face split into a small smile. "Thanks man. Hey, I gotta get back. Next week?"
"Yeah, next week man."
Nico vanished into the shadows of the pillar caused by the roaring fire behind Percy's throne, leaving Percy alone. The King stood up, and drew his knife. He was going to open a rift to Central Park like usual, but changed his mind, instead deciding on his father's cabin at Camp Half Blood. He slashed the air in front of him, imagining the home away from home he had lived in for so long.
The inside of the cabin appeared in front of him, dark and dusty, as if it hadn't been in use for years, which it probably hadn't. He stepped through, the rift closing behind him. The air smelled musty, like an old abandoned attic. He made his way to the fountain in the center of the cabin.
The fountain was still broken from when he slashed it in half almost seven years ago. He ran his fingers over the rough edge and sighed. He removed his hand and looked at the bottom of the fountain, where a bunch of golden drachma laid, waiting to be used. He scooped up a handful and placed them in his pocket.
He was half tempted to try to see if the fountain had maybe been fixed by his father, but he knew that it would be futile. He had broken the fountain, and if his father hadn't fixed it when Percy lived in the cabin, he probably wouldn't when he didn't.
He exited the cabin. The Camp itself was relatively empty and quiet. He was used to seeing people milling around, attending classes, training in the arena, practicing archery, canoeing across the lake, it was a shock to see maybe one person in the garden. He made his way to the Big House, where he was sure Chiron would have a way to make a rainbow.
As Percy reached the Big House, he was punched with a strange sense of deja vu. He was met with the sight of Mr. D and Chiron playing pinochle. As the Son of Poseidon walked up the stairs to the porch, the wood creaking underneath his feet, Chiron looked up, a smile gracing his face.
"Percy, my child." The centaur said, rising from his wheelchair. "How have you been?"
As Percy embraced his teacher in a hug, Mr. D rolled his eyes. "Oh look, it's Pierre. Let's all bow before him."
Percy stilled. "I've been good." He responded to Chiron while his mind ran at a million miles a second. Did Dionysus know? How could he? But then Mr. D went back to looking at his cards, and Percy remembered that campers often, to his chagrin, treated him like a God on Earth. He remembered when he first came to camp, Chiron had asked him how it would feel to be a myth, to be a tale to explain how young boys could get over losing their mothers. Nowadays, he was treated like a myth, a tale that surely only grew in his time away. Myths had a way of evolving like that. Mr. D was probably referring to that.
"How is Artemis, Pierre?" Mr. D asked when Chiron let go of Percy.
Percy's face contorted into one of confusion. "Good? I guess. I don't know."
"Hermes says he's seen you two running around." Mr. D glanced up from his cards which hid his face from the bridge of his nose below. His shaggy black hair hung down, almost covering his bloodshot blue eyes.
"We're married. So what?" Percy said coldly.
Mr. D stood up. "And what a wedding it was. Good party. I'll tell you, I'm in a good mood, so I'm going to leave before you worsen it." He walked into the Big House, disappearing around the corner, presumably to the living room, where Seymour's head was chowing down on hot dogs wieners.
Chiron stared at Percy. "You and Artemis?" He questioned quietly, unbelieving.
Percy nodded. "The council demanded we be married." Percy waved it away. "It's not important. Do you have a rainbow I can use? I'm having dinner with my family today and I want to see if they want me to bring something before I head over there."
"Of course my boy. In my office, where it always is."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. And please, visit us again sometime. Preferably sooner than three years."
Percy smiled. "I'll see what I can do."
Percy walked into the big house and turned opposite of the living room, where Mr. D was indeed feeding Seymour hot dog wieners. His mind flashed back to an old play where an old play where a sentient plant kept saying, "Feed me, Seymour!" Sure, it wasn't perfectly analogous to the scene taking place, but his mind went there anyway.
He walked into Chiron's office and sitting on his desk, where it usually was, was a prism and a flashlight. He picked up both and turned the flashlight on. He placed both on the desk, the prism right on the edge, with the flashlight behind it, the light beaming into the prism, casting a rainbow on the opposite wall.
Percy sat down underneath the beam and leaned against the desk. He reached into his pocket and fished out a drachma. He tossed it at the rainbow. The coin disappeared, seemingly gone invisible. "Fleecy, do me a solid." He said loudly. "Show me Sally Blofis, Upper East Side, New York City."
The rainbow shimmered and his mother appeared in the image. "Percy!" She exclaimed.
"Hey, mom. Was there anything you wanted me to get tonight?"
His mother looked off to the side as she thought to herself. "Umm," She said, "I think if you can just get some wine, I'd think that would be it."
Percy nodded. "Okay. I'll get some wine and then I'll be there."
"Okay, honey. Be safe. See you soon. Love you."
"Love you too, mom." Percy said, before reaching up and grabbing the prism, disrupting the rainbow, the iris message fading. The flashlight was still on, shining on the wall. The bottom of it was flat, caused by the desk. He stood up and turned the flashlight off, before placing the prism right next to the flashlight.
He walked out of the office to find Chiron. "Do you have any USD? I have some drachma but I need cash."
Chiron motioned for Percy to follow him back into the office. Chiron opened a drawer and rummaged through it. He pulled out a clip with a bunch of cash tucked inside. "How much do you need?"
Percy reached into his pocket and grabbed all the drachma he had, placing the golden coins on the table. "However much this is." As Chiron started to count the coins, Percy asked, "You don't think Mr. D could summon a bottle of wine for me, do you?"
Chiron shook his head. "His punishment was very clear. He cannot summon wine, period, unless told otherwise by Lord Zeus."
Percy nodded. "Thought so."
Chiron glanced up. "You're not twenty one anyways."
Percy raised an eyebrow. "Yes I am."
Chiron let out a breath. "Damn my age, the years blur together." He looked up at Percy and smiled. "You've grown so much, I have to remind myself you're no longer that twelve year old boy who just lost his mother, who passed out after carrying Grover down the Hill."
Percy smiled sadly. "Seems so long ago."
"You have come a long way, Percy." Chiron held out a number of bills, and as Percy took them, he said, "You have done so much, and you are still so young. I am proud of you. I hope you never forget that."
Percy smiled sadly once more. "Thank you, sir."
"Enjoy your night, and please, do visit us again."
"I will. Thank you, Chiron."
Percy walked out of the office, out of the big house, and up Half-Blood Hill. As he climbed the hill, growing closer to Thalia's Pine, he looked up at the sun. It was starting to grow closer to the horizon. He should meet Artemis first. He reached the top of the hill and looked back at Camp Half-Blood. Despite his promise to Chiron, he couldn't shake the feeling that this was his last time seeing it.
LINE BREAK
Percy sat on their bench in Central Park, watching as people walked by, going on about their day. He couldn't deny that he was both excited and nervous about tonight. A cold wind blew by, chilling him. It was the middle of February, and it certainly felt like it. He missed the temperature altering barrier of Camp Half-Blood. He didn't have a jacket, so the wind blew right through his thin dress shirt.
Luckily, he didn't have to wait long. Artemis walked up to him, dressed appropriately for the weather. Black leggings, a silver leather jacket over a green shirt. Her auburn hair was tied in her usual braid. She had a sheathed hunting knife strapped to her thigh. She didn't sit.
Percy stood up. "You ready?" He asked.
"Yes." She said, short and curt. "Let us get this over with."
Percy frowned. "Do you not want to do this anymore? You can cancel. I can go by myself. My family will understand."
"No. Let us go." She started walking away.
"Hold on. My mom requested that I bring some wine. So we'll need to make a stop. Luckily, it's on the way."
Artemis frowned. "Fine." She said at last.
"Are you alright? You seem like you're mad or something."
"I am fine."
Percy narrowed his eyes slightly. Her tone definitely did not suggest she was fine. But he also knew better than to argue with a Goddess, especially this Goddess.
They made their way to a wine store located on 3rd Avenue. The red sign above the door read Vintage Grape in golden letters. They entered and were assaulted by the scent of wood. Shelves of bottles of wine filled the store. There was a small cash register to the left, where a man with a majestic beard stood. He nodded at them as they entered.
Percy started to look at wines, not knowing what kind of wine his mother and stepfather liked. He had never had wine, and didn't know anything about them. What was the difference between sweet and dry wine? What the hell was even dry wine, how could wine be dry, it was a liquid? He let out a sigh and asked, "Do you know anything about wine, Artemis?" He turned to her, only to find her missing. "Artemis?"
The Wilderness Goddess was two aisles over staring at a particular bottle of wine. She blinked and reached out, her fingers shaking. She picked the wine bottle up and held it in her shaking hands. She couldn't believe it. An assyrtiko wine. It had been so long since she had an assyrtiko. The last time had been, shit, she hasn't had any since she left Greece oh so long ago.
She could always summon some, but for some reason, she never had. It was like she had forgotten all about it until right now. When she saw the bottle, a flood of memories of the taste and notes roared over her taste buds.
The blue label took her by shock. Her half brother's name was on the label. Hermes. It sat above two white pillars against the sky blue background.
She took the bottle to the register and handed it to the cashier. "ID?" He asked.
Artemis reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a wallet. It was empty, but the cashier didn't know that. She opened it, and summoned her fake ID. She handed it to the cashier, who looked it over, nodded, and handed it back before scanning the wine. "Did you find everything okay?" He asked.
"Yes." She said, cordially. The man in front of her did not earn her ire, nor did he deserve it.
"Fantastic. The total comes to sixteen nineteen. Would that be cash or card?"
"Cash." She said. She reached into the empty wallet and stealthily summoned a twenty dollar bill. She pulled it out and handed it to the cashier. The man clicked a couple of buttons on the register, the drawer came out, and he put the twenty in. He pulled out three one dollar bills and eighty one cents in coins. He handed it to Artemis and placed the wine bottle in a bag. Artemis placed the change in her wallet, and took the bag.
She turned around and walked to the entrance. She noticed Percy was staring at a shelf of wine, looking more confused than a newborn wolf pup. She bit her tongue as she waited by the door. She didn't know how to feel about the Son of Poseidon. She had felt like she was getting closer to him, even coming to look forward to their outings, strange as it was. But she couldn't overlook the fact that he was hiding something from her, and if she was being perfectly honest, it was starting to anger her.
She pushed the emotions down. She would deal with it later, after the dinner. She would find out what he was hiding, and why.
Percy, for his part, remained oblivious as he looked between wines, still just as confused as he was when he entered. He still didn't know how wine could be dry. Finally he picked out a bottle—a pinot grigio. He hoped it was a good wine. Not for himself, he didn't drink after all, but he didn't want to serve his mother, his stepfather, and Artemis, bad wine. He needed tonight to go well.
He took it to the counter and had a similar exchange to the one Artemis carried out minutes earlier. He walked over to her, bagged wine bottle in hand. He noticed she had a bag of her own. "What'd you get?"
"Wine." She said, deadpan.
"Hey, really, are you okay?"
"I am fine, Percy. Let us go."
Percy took a deep breath. "Alright."
They stepped out of the shop and into the cold night. The bag disappeared from Artemis' hand, as she placed it in her tent back at her camp, exactly like she had with the flowers Percy gave her last time. Flowers that were still on her desk in her tent.
Percy led her through the crowded streets of New York City, eventually stopping at an apartment building. He opened the door, and motioned for Artemis to enter, like a gentleman. He followed behind her, but when she stopped, and looked back at him, he realized that she didn't know where his apartment was. He took the lead, walking to the elevator. He pressed the button to go up, and they waited.
The door opened a few moments later with a DING. They walked inside, and Percy pushed the button. The elevator started the ascent. "Hey, the night of our wedding, how'd you know where my room was?"
Artemis shrugged haphazardly.
Percy bit his tongue. "Okay." Artemis was not in a talking mood, it seemed. The doors to the elevator opened, and they exited. Percy walked down the hallway, Artemis following a couple paces behind. Percy stopped at a door to their left, and knocked twice. A couple of moments passed before the door opened to reveal Percy's mother.
"Percy!" She said, coming forward and giving her son a hug.
"Hi, mom." Percy said.
His mother retreated, and turned to the right, smiling. "And you must be Artemis. Hi!"
Artemis bowed her head. "Hi."
His mom motioned for them to come inside. Artemis looked at Percy, who held a hand out towards the door. Artemis walked through the door, and Percy followed her. Paul was at the table, a stack of papers in front of him. He had a pair of reading glasses on as he read the paper, a red pen marking his spot on the page. In the living room, Estelle sat, playing with a couple of dolls, at least, she was until she saw Percy enter. She dropped the dolls and ran towards her brother.
"Percy!" She yelled.
"Hey, Ladybug." Percy said softly as he caught her and lifted her up into the air, causing her to yell in joy. "How are you?"
She laughed. "I'm great!"
Percy put her down.
Paul looked up and put his reading glasses down. He stood up and approached Artemis. He held his hand out for a handshake. "Paul Blofis, Percy's stepfather."
The Goddess shook the man's hand. "Artemis." She said simply.
"You have a strong handshake." Paul said as he let go.
Sally made her way to the kitchen, where an intoxicating aroma came from. "Dinner is just about ready. I don't know what Artemis liked, so I just decided on stroganoff. I hope that's okay."
"It is fine, Ms. Jackson. I am not a picky eater."
"You can just call me Sally dear. You are a Goddess, after all."
"But I am in your home, and will treat you with the respect that is deserved with it."
Percy entered the kitchen and placed the bag on the counter. "I didn't know what wine you liked, so I just got a peanut grocery. I hope that's good."
Sally stared at her son, just blinking at him. "Do you mean a pinot grigio?"
"Is that how you say it?" Percy pulled the wine bottle out of the bag and held it up for his mother to see.
"Yes, Percy. It's pinot grigio, and yes, it's a good wine."
"That's good." Percy said as he put the bottle on the table.
"Can you go to my room and get the chair from my closet? So Artemis has a place to sit?"
Percy nodded and did as he was asked. He found the metal folding chair propped up against the back wall. He picked it up and carried it to the kitchen and placed it between two chairs.
Artemis had already sat at the table and was in conversation with Paul. "So, which myths are real? I mean, there are so many variations, from different groups and cults. Which ones were actual and which changed? And what about Serapis?"
Artemis frowned. "I mean, Serapis is kind of his own thing. We do not really acknowledge him as a part of our pantheon. He does his own thing, we do ours. Rarely do we intertwine. As for the myths themselves, I am not sure. It is possible that none of them are real, as they were told by man."
Percy walked over to his mother and leaned in close. "Did you tell Paul about the… y'know?" He asked lowly.
"Hell?"
Percy nodded.
"Yes, I told him."
"Okay, well. I haven't told Artemis. I don't want her to know."
His mother frowned. "That's kind of a big thing to keep from her, Percy."
"I know. And that's why. If this gets out to the wrong people, such as—" Percy gestured upwards, before sighing. "We've already suffered three wars, I don't want to fight a fourth."
"I understand. But—" She glanced back at Artemis who was still talking to Paul. She was sharing some stories from her millenia alive, and Paul was listening intently. "I think you can trust her."
Percy looked back too. Artemis felt someone watching her and looked back to find Percy. The son of Poseidon smiled at her. She looked confused, but turned back to Paul, resuming her story about hunting the Carthaginian Serpent.
"Maybe." Percy said.
His mother smiled sadly. "Come, help me serve dinner."
Percy helped his mother serve dinner, holding plates for her so she could scoop some stroganoff onto them, before placing them on the table. He also threw a waffle in the toaster for his sister. When the waffle popped out, Percy placed it on a plate and put it on the table before Estelle's seat. He also grabbed the pinot grigio and placed the bottle on the table, before grabbing a bottle of water for himself.
He sat down between Artemis and Paul, in the metal folding chair he had retrieved from the closet earlier. He waited for his mother to sit, and when she did, they all began eating.
"This is good, mom." Percy said after swallowing his first bite.
"Thank you." His mother opened the bottle of wine and poured herself a glass. She offered some to Paul, who shook his head. "Artemis?"
Artemis swallowed. "Please." She said, holding her glass up
Sally nodded and poured some wine into the Goddess' glass. "Thank you."
Estelle was staring at Artemis from across the table. She had been so caught up in her brother's return, she hadn't noticed the companion he brought. But now that she had, she couldn't stop looking. Eventually, Artemis noticed. "Hello, little one." She said.
Estelle smiled, a toothy grin. "You're pretty."
Artemis' lips split into a small smile. "Thank you. So are you."
They kept eating in an awkward silence until Estelle broke it. "Mommy, can we play Clue?"
Her mother glanced at her son and his wife. "Would you two want to play?"
"I'm down." Percy said, taking a swig from his water bottle.
"What is 'Clue'?" Artemis asked.
"It's a game where you have to find out who the murderer is."
Artemis pursed her lips. "Sounds intriguing. I will play."
Percy took another bite and looked around the table. While the food itself was very good, the dinner was awkward. No one was really talking outside of responding to Estelle. He kind of understands, I mean, what do you say to a Goddess who is eating at your table. Paul had already gone down the literature teacher route.
They finished eating in silence, the only sound the quiet chewing and Estelle's humming. Percy leaned back in his chair, the first to finish eating. Artemis was going slowly, eating with the grace and dignity of a nobleman. His parents were almost done. Estelle was sitting in her chair, waffle half eaten.
Percy made a funny face at her, causing the toddler to laugh. Sally smiled at her children and looked to Artemis, who was watching out of the corner of her eye. "He is good with kids." She commented.
Sally nodded. "He was so excited to have a sibling. I remember his face lit up when we told him."
Paul smiled. "He was so happy."
Artemis frowned. "He already had siblings though. His father is not exactly… you know? I remember his brother got awarded after the Second Titan War with a big stick."
"Tyson?" Sally asked. "I mean, yeah, he has siblings through his father… but it is different. He's fought a lot of them."
"He was excited to have a mortal sibling." Artemis stated.
"Mommy! Clue!" Estelle said.
"Okay, honey." Sally said. She turned to Paul. "Will you get the game, please?"
Paul nodded and stood up before leaving the table and walking towards his room. Percy stood up and started to collect the plates. He stacked them all and took them to the sink and began to rinse them off before putting them in the dishwasher.
Paul came back with the game and placed the box on the table in the center. He and Estelle started to set up the game board. Percy came back from putting the dishes in the dishwasher and sat down.
Percy handed the instruction booklet to Artemis. "Here."
She hesitated before taking it. She opened it and started to read it. Percy grabbed the Clue cards and started to shuffle them. They picked their characters, rolled to see who goes first, and began playing.
Artemis got the hang of the game quickly. Using her deduction skills, she claimed the first round. Percy couldn't say the played a few rounds, and by the time they finished, it was close to ten in the night.
"I think it's time we leave." Percy said.
"Aww. You're leaving?" Estelle asked.
Her brother kneeled down, bringing himself to her level, and nodded. "It's getting late, ladybug."
"Promise you'll come back?" Estelle lookde up at him, tears starting to shine in the corners of her eyes.
Percy nodded. "I promise."
Estelle held out her pinky. "Pinky promise?"
Percy wrapped his pinky around hers. "I pinky promise that I'll come back."
"Yayyy!" She exclaimed, rushing forward and hugging him. He wrapped his arms around her, before pulling away and standing up. He looked at Artemis, who was watching, a confused look on her face.
He gave his mother and stepfather a hug. They told Artemis it was nice to meet her, she reciprocated the words, and then the married couple walked out of the apartment.
As soon as the door closed, Percy turned to Artemis, who was staring at the wall. "Well, that was fun, huh?"
Artemis didn't say anything. She just kept staring at the wall. Percy frowned before asking softly, "Hey, are you okay?" He gently placed a hand on her shoulder.
Finally, Artemis spoke. A quiet whisper in an almost broken voice. "Why are you lying to me?"
Percy took a step back. "What?"
She turned to him, her eyes shining like a full moon over the ocean. "Why are you lying to me?"
"Artemis, I'm not—"
"Yes, you are. I spoke to Hades, you're not hunting down escape souls. There were never any."
"Artemis, you know Hades, he's not going to let anyone know that something is wrong i—"
"Even now, you still lie!" Her voice was starting to raise. Percy was nervous that they were going to attract the attention of the residents. "What? What are you hiding? I thought…" She laughed bitterly. "I thought maybe, just maybe you were different. That I could trust you. Can I? Can I trust you, Percy?"
Percy opened his mouth and closed it, trying to form an answer. "Artemis… I…" Finally, he sighed. "You want to know? You really want to know?"
"Yes!" Artemis said. "Yes, I want to know. What are you hiding!"
"Follow me." He said, and turned off, marching towards the elevator. He pressed the button to call the elevator. Artemis followed him. The moments that passed while the elevator traveled up to their floor were filled with a tense silence. Finally, the elevator doors opened and they stepped inside.
The doors closed and Percy pulled his knife out of his sheath. Artemis' own hand went to the knife strapped to her thigh as she briefly, for a moment, thought that Percy might attack her. However, she was proven wrong, when he slashed the air in front of him, and a dark line followed the blade, before growing apart and revealing an image. A throne hall made of black stone, with a throne set against a backdrop of fire.
Percy stepped through and turned, offering a hand to Artemis. She refused, and stepped through the rift. The heat immediately hit her like a chariot. Her eyes frantically darted around the hall. "Where are we?" She asked apprehensively.
"Artemis, welcome to Hell."
Mephistopheles approached the couple and bowed before Percy. "Lord Perseus, welcome back." He turned to Artemis and bowed. "Lady Artemis, I presume?"
"You know me?"
"Lord Perseus has mentioned you a couple of times. I am Mephistopheles, Royal Advisor to the King."
Artemis turned to Percy. "You are the… King of this place?"
Percy rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah. I am."
"How long?"
Percy bit his lip nervously. "Right before they decided we'd get married. Like the day before, maybe. Time is… strange here."
"Why? Why did you never mention this to me? Did you not trust me?"
Percy hesitated before his shoulders dropped. "No." He said quietly. "I didn't."
Artemis' eyebrows knitted together. Her jaw was set, and her eyes burned. He couldn't tell if it was with fury or hurt. "I want to go home." She said lowly.
Percy sighed before nodding, and pulled the knife out. He slowly slashed the air once more, woods appearing in the rift. He motioned his head towards it.
Without a word, Artemis stepped through. It closed behind her, and then she was gone.
Percy clenched his fists. "FUCK!" He yelled. He rubbed his forehead. This was not how he wanted things to go. She wasn't supposed to find out. He clenched his jaw. Why was he so mad? He didn't have a right to be mad, he hid it from her after all.
Mephistopheles' form shifted and within seconds he was a splitting image of the Goddess that just left. "I am sorry, your majesty."
Percy looked up at his Royal Advisor and felt rage boiling up in his veins. His hands started to feel hot, burning hot. He grabbed Mephistopheles by the collar, and pushed him up against the wall. "What the fuck is wrong with you, dude?" He felt the rage boil over, and he punched the wall next to Mephistopheles' head.
Mephistopheles quickly reverted back to his usual form, red hair, pointed goatee, red eyes.
Percy quickly forgot his anger as he stared at his hand. It had felt hot, but he thought it was just the anger. His hand was on fire. It didn't hurt at all, in fact, it felt pleasant. Like his hand was tingling.
He pulled his fist away and opened it. He stared at his hand, examining it, moving his fingers, watching the flames flickered on his fingers. He was reminded of Leo, who could summon fire at will.
"Lord? What are… what are you doing?"
"I… I don't know." Percy said. "I've… I've never been able to do this before."
"I wouldn't think so. Lord Perseus, that fire is Luciferian in nature."
LINE BREAK
Artemis' hand shook as she poured the assyrtiko into a glass. A swell of emotions was unfurling inside her chest, but she pushed them down. Percy had been lying to her the entire time. He was the King of Hell, and didn't mention it. She had thought he was cheating, and she couldn't tell if this was better or worse.
She had always expected the abrahamic pantheons existed, after all, she was very familiar with the Romans, and was knowledgeable of the Egyptians in Brooklyn, and the Norse in Boston. It didn't seem a stretch to say others existed as well.
But that wasn't what was bothering her. She didn't really care. What mattered was Percy lied to her. She trusted him, but he didn't trust her. And it hurt. She didn't know how this was going to affect their marriage, negatively if she had to guess. How does one reconcile the fact their partner didn't trust them enough to tell them they were a King. That's not a trivial thing.
She took a sip of the wine and walked out onto the balcony of her palace on Olympus. She leaned against the railing and looked up at the stars, and she continued to drink her wine, hoping it would drown the emotions, but she knew it was hopeless. Mortal wine wasn't strong enough, but still she drank.
She didn't stop till the bottle was gone.
A/N. Sorry this chapter took so long to come out. I started it like three different times in different places because I wasn't happy with it, then some stuff happened, such as I got my driver's license. So that's pretty hype.
Anyways, Artemis now knows. I know it probably doesn't live up to your expectations, but I feel like this is how it would go down. There should, big should, don't hold me to it, be more anger next they meet in a couple of chapters.
Also, there's a big reveal. You've all been talking about Percy not being powerful enough, well, here is his first power up of the story. Now, I want to make this clear, he is NOT as powerful as Lucifer. There is a reason, and I will not say, because it spoils a huge plot point.
Thoughts?
