1996
Narcissa Malfoy head pounded as she awoke in her cell. The soft covers on her bed being stained with dried blood from her punishment at the hands of the dark lord. Over the past week, Voldemort had been taking out his frustrations on whoever happened to cross his path. She was just the unlucky one who managed to walk past the throne room during one of his many tantrums.
Standing from her marital bed, she instinctively reached over to grab her wand from the bedside drawer but stopped when she remembered, she has been without her wand for many months.
Sighing, Narcissa walked with a limp over to the wardrobe, revealing all of her designer clothing. Digging past them, she found what she was looking for and withdrew the small crate. Inside was a muggle first-aid kit and some healing potions.
Ignoring the potions, Narcissa laid the crate down on her bed and dug into the first-aid kit, bringing out alcohol and a pack of bandages. Soaking a cotton ball in the alcohol, she held it against a deep cut above her left eye, not flinching from the stinging pain.
With her other hand, Narcissa unwrapped a bandage and placed it over the cotton ball, sealing it. She then repeated the process four different times on cuts and bruises around her body. Only on the last one, a seven inch gash from her right upper thigh to the beginning of her ribs did she feel the pain, crumbling to the floor as she heaved.
Managing with her full effort to cover the injury, Narcissa flipped to her back as she laid on the floor, breathing heavily. Staring into the roof, she wished for nothing more than to be done with this. But she was not done yet.
Her son's murderers were still alive. So she was too.
Flipping herself with a groan, Narcissa crawled over to her bed, digging for something underneath it. Grabbing it, she pulled it out to reveal a half drunk bottle of Ogden's Old Firewhiskey. Pulling herself up into a seated stance, Narcissa unscrewed the cap, then raised the bottle to her lips.
Feeling the very familiar burn race down her throat, she dropped the bottle heavily and sighed in relief, leaning her head on the side of the bed. Instantly the burn of the whiskey washed away the aching pain of her injuries, a familiar feeling.
A knock at the door sobered her instantly. Moaning slightly at the interruption, Narcissa could only grab the bottle and first-aid kit, stuffing them underneath the bed as the door to her bedroom opened.
"Wow auntie, you look like shit."
"Delphini." Narcissa responded back, trying to rise from her crouched position, but struggling to do so.
With a shake of her head, Delphini Riddle walked around the bed, and grabbed the older woman's shoulders, helping her rise. Seating her on the bed, Delphini looked over the woman, and sighed in displeasure when she saw the misplaced and crooked bandages.
"Angry again?" The younger girl asked, reapplying the bandages.
Wincing from the pain, Narcissa nodded, not in the mood to speak to the girl. Working in silence, Delphini managed to reapply all of the bandages, before ducking underneath and reaching under the bed to retrieve the crate.
"You have to take one." She said, pointing a healing potion at Narcissa, who rolled her eyes at her secret stash being revealed.
"No. Your father…"
"The Dark Lord."
"Right. The Dark Lord has forbidden me from magic. I must suffer the muggle way, that is my punishment." Narcissa explained, sagging to the knees from the bed and reaching under the bed as well and grabbing the bottle of firewhiskey.
"You know that is not what he meant." Delphini replied, moving away from the woman back to the door of the bedroom. Narcissa only shrugged her shoulders.
"Anyway, there is an auror at the door for you. Its one of ours though so…" Delphini left unsaid as she raised her right hand, instantly covering Narcissa's naked body in a set of new washed clothing. She then felt her hair change into a design and her body be cleaned from the grime. Delphini then left through the door, leaving Narcissa sitting slumped on the floor.
Groaning, Narcissa rose. Staring hatefully at the opened door.
Walking downstairs, Narcissa made her way over to the main front door to answer, but stopped when she saw the man already inside, helping himself to a bowl of treats in the kitchen.
Seeing he wasn't alone anymore, the auror quickly walked away from the counter and towards Narcissa.
"Im only doing this because I went all the way through the academy for this, but Mrs. Malfoy, I am here to tell you that your husband has been arrested this morning for assaulting multiple aurors and murdering a student. He is currently being detained at the ministry." The auror said, causing Narcissa's eyebrows to shoot up.
After not hearing the woman speak for a moment, the auror looked at Narcissa confused. "Mrs. Malfoy?"
"The Dark Lord is out at the moment. He will be back soon. You must tell him the second he arrives." Narcissa said, trying to remain calm.
Nodding his head, the auror turned and walked briskly towards the throne room, intending on waiting for their lord.
Once alone again, Narcissa slouched and dropped her hands to her knees, laughing softly.
"Good riddance you fucking bitch." She said to herself.
Two Hours Earlier
Time seemed to slow after the man shouted, with everyone in the area looking in his direction. Hearing the curse, most of the experienced aurors ducked on instinct, knowing that they cant shield themselves from it.
Even then, by the time everyone had located the freed man, the spell was already cast, and closing in quickly with its target.
Looking past Hermione's confused face, Harry looked into the eye of the curse. Feeling full of dread, Harry knew the curse would once again take away someone he loved. That once again, he would be powerless in stopping it.
Acting on pure instinct, Harry grabbed Hermione's shoulders, powerfully twisting her to stand where he was a split second ago. Holding onto her tightly, Harry aligned himself with the path of the curse, waiting for the contact.
But it never came.
Only the sound of a light grunt, and body hitting the ground hard.
Confused, Harry untangled himself from Hermione. Turning, Harry made sure to keep Hermione behind him as he did so, not wanting her to be in the way of any other curses.
There, Harry was met with a sight he would never forget. Lying on the ground just before Harry's feet laid Seamus Finnigan. His eyes eternally staring into the sky. He looked alive, just as he had been only a single moment ago. It took a moment for Harry to realize that he laid there dead. His body laying impossibly still.
Moving his eyes from the corpse of his friend, Harry stared at the man across from him, his wand still out, laughing hysterically.
In a single second, the aurors bounced into action, withdrawing their own wands and firing spell after spell in the direction of the unknown man. But to the man's credit, he was quick. Ducking instinctively, the wizard sprinted across the ground towards his other men, holding a shield as he did so.
Making it to a destroyed wall, the man crouched behind it, taking a breath. Feeling spells fly over and around him, he knew he had to move quick. Casting a disillusionment spell on himself, he took a step away from the wall, intending on racing over to his men, but as soon as his back left the wall, an exploding spell drove directly into it. Flinging the man away and slamming him hard into the ground, ripping off his mask.
Dust filled his nose as his eyes adjusted to his new surroundings. Curses still flew over him, with the caster's of those spells quickly enclosing on the man. Looking over towards his trapped men, as they looked back at him in hope, he muttered an apology as he reached for his emergency port-key. But before saying the keyword, his eyes landed on something.
A moving figure of a shadow as it appeared from behind the imprisoned men, swishing their wand around, freeing his men and arming them with new wands. The new arrival then leaned down and ordered something to the now free men, causing them to nod at their new orders. Turning quickly, the mysterious figure looked over at the downed man, before flashing him a grin and turning on the spot.
But for a split second, the man laying on the ground thought he'd seen the face of the figure. A face belonging to his dead son.
As the man laid there stunned, multiple aurors, led by a furious Amelia Bones, marched over. And with a last thought of his son, his mind went dark as multiple stunners collided with the man.
Filled with a rage he had never felt before, a raging Harry Potter ordered Professor Mcgonagall to evacuate all of the students, to which she fought back on.
"Mr. Potter I demand you and all of the students to return to the castle! We will handle this!" Professor Mcgonagall tried, looking red faced into a distracted Harry Potters face.
But Harry wasn't listened, instead focusing on where the man currently hid behind.
"Professor, I'm not leaving! So focus on the others! They can't fight, I CAN! GO!" Then Harry ran forward, ignoring his professors shouts following him. He ran forward to where Amelia was hunkered down, about twenty feet behind where the man currently hid. Looking over at Amelia, she tilted her head over, signaling where the man was hiding.
Nodding, Harry stood instantly from behind the debris and fired a exploding charm towards the wall, destroying it completely. Not waiting a moment, Harry ran forward again, ignoring all signs of danger.
Running past the wall, Harry looked down at the man. Seeing the mangled, scarred face of Lucius Malfoy, as the older man looked stunned over towards his trapped men. Just then, Amelia arrived behind him with her aurors, who quickly subdued the man.
"That was…"
"I don't give a fuck, he's done." Amelia raged.
Nodding his head, Harry looked over to where Lucius was staring at and cursed, seeing the trapped men free again.
The five remaining men now stood, all with wands in hand.
Feeling rage and hatred fill his heart, Harry knew that they couldn't keep fighting like this. Someone needed to finish it. Hearing Amelia from beside him shouting out orders and preparing to face off with the men, Harry decided that it was time to show everyone here that in order to win the war. They need to change.
Amelia and her men all took position behind fallen debris, with Amelia casting a 'Sonorus' charm on herself to order the men to surrender.
"SURRENDER NOW! DROP YOUR WANDS AND NOBODY ELSE GETS HURT!"
By now the men will have realized that they were completely surrounded in every direction. With additional aurors now coming in from behind them, outnumbering the death eaters five-one.
One of the death eaters took a step forward, drawing all eyes. Looking back at his companions, the man took his mask off, revealing his face. Dropping his mask and wand, the man raised his hands into the air.
"I surren…"
A streak of red slammed into the mans chest, cutting his surrender short as his body exploded into a geyser of blood and gore. Harry's eyes widened in shock as he watched the blood of the man splash onto the other death eaters behind him.
Thats when the true chaos ensued.
The aurors all lowered their wands, shocked at what had happened, but the death eaters yelled out in fury, raising their own. In only a few seconds, violent green streaks flew rapidly, hitting aurors and men and woman in the area who only wanted to see the action.
"TAKE COVER!" Amelia Bones screamed to her men, as she returned fire towards the now scrambling death eaters, but her men couldn't hear her. Screaming and curses flew through the air, causing all on the battlefield to act on their own. Either running for the apparition point, or focusing on returning fire to their enemy.
Amelia took cover behind a wall, taking a breath and trying to focus on the best move to make. As she controlled her breathing, a auror scrambled around the wall, trying to take cover. Looking around frantically, the young woman caught Amelias eyes, feeling relief flood over her.
"MADAM BONES! WHAT DO WE DO?!"
"STAY BEHIND COVER! WAIT FOR A…."
Amelia's sentence cut as a rouge bombarda spell flew into their cover, slamming directly into the wall beside the young auror. Blowing Amelia away from the wall and into the open, directly in the middle of the fighting. Gathering her thoughts, Amelia tried to rise from the ground but stopped, feeling unbearable pain from her right knee. Looking down, Amelia saw the unmistakeable sight of her destroyed knee cap, having taken the weight of her fall.
Knowing she needed to move, Amelia reached for her wand, which had flown about two meters away from her. Crawling desperately towards her wand, Amelia kept her head down as streaks of green, red, and yellow flew over her. Followed only by screams of anguish or shouts of fury.
After a short bout of crawling, Amelia managed to make it to her wand, stretching her hand out to grab it. A boot stomping on her hand stopped her, making her gasp out in pain.
"You fucking bitch. The Dark Lord will reward me handsomely for you."
Amelia strained her head to look up at who held her down, but only seeing the silver mask of the death eater. With his wand trained on the downed auror, the man reached into his robes, pulling out a tiny glowing orb.
"See you in hell, cunt." The man snarled, placing the portkey onto Amelia's back.
"Salazar's Reven…"
A red stunner blasted into the man's chest, blowing him back, stopping his activation code. Running forward, Harry shot another stunner spell into the downed man before turning and looking down at Amelia. Grabbing the portkey off of her, Harry decided to pocket it, unbeknownst to Amelia, as she struggled to stand.
"Thank you Harry." Amelia said, gathering her breath.
"Don't mention it. You need to get your people and evacuate. I'll focus on stopping the death eaters if you focus on protecting our people. Fix your leg and let's go." Harry ordered, giving Amelia a hand up.
Looking at Harry, Amelia began to argue with his 'orders' when another bombarda spell flew into a shop, flooring it.
"GO!" Harry shouted before running forward and into the battle. Disappearing behind a shop.
Amelia could only send off a small prayer before casting a healing spell on her knee, giving her temporary relief. Looking back up, she watched the battle for a single moment before turning and running to find survivors.
Sprinting around, Amelia continued to spit out orders to the men and women she would pass, ordering them to retreat and evacuate any civilians. Along the way, Amelia had to steel her resolve as she had to pass over many of her soldiers, dead on the streets.
Making it to the edge of town, Amelia could see a large group. All moving quickly back to the large castle in the distance. Recognizing the unmistakable sight of Professor Mcgonagall at the back of the crowd, protecting her students.
Feeling relieved, Amelia turned to look over her men who had followed her.
"Four of you, follow the students and make sure they are protected. Go." Amelia ordered, leaving no room for a argument.
Nodding their heads, four of the men raced forward, running up the path towards the crowd.
"Now, half of you, follow me. We will stop the terrorists no matter the cost. Those remaining, search every building, check every body on the street. Help these people. GO!"
"YES MADAM BONES!" Her men shouted, arranging themselves into groups and heading back into the war torn streets of Hogsmeade.
But as Amelia raced forward, back into battle, she couldn't help but notice something.
Silence.
Earlier
Sprinting forward, Harry dodged over a sickly yellow curse, flicking his wrist in the direction of the spell and sending off his own, being rewarded by the sound of a splatter onto the brick wall.
Throwing himself into a wall, Harry gathered his thoughts as he took cover. Waiting for a break in the casting. Leaning away from the wall, Harry cast a spell taught to him by Sirius for 'useful practice', turning the wall transparent so he could see through, but keeping the other side looking solid.
Looking through, Harry could see only two of the six men remained, hiding inside of an old clothing shop Harry had visited once with Ron. The two men were constantly throwing curses out of the window, not caring where they aimed.
'They don't know where we are.' Harry thought to himself, deciding to use this information to end the battle once and for all.
Breaking from his cover, Harry pointed his wand into the destruction of one of the shops, summoned a wall of bricks to act as his shield. Sprinting now, Harry ran towards the shop, careful to not stray into the firing range of the aurors who had taken cover around the death eaters.
Closing in on the store, one of the death eaters peaked from their cover, only to see a large wall of bricks flying in their direction, causing them to panic.
"AVADA KEDAVRA!" The man shouted in fear, pointing at the center of the wall.
Anticipating this, Harry waited only a split second before banishing the wall straight ahead into the killing curse, before casting a shield in it's place to ward off the now destroyed bricks as they flew back into Harry.
Feeling the bricks wash over him, with only a spare few shards breaching his shield, Harry finished the sprint directly into the open doors of the shop, sliding on his knees into the lobby. Quick as a flash, Harry flipped his direction and cast two stunners, hitting both men directly in their chests, knocking them down, and out of the fight.
Breathing, Harry took a moment, wand still trained on the two wizards. In a moment, the aurors flew from their cover spots and into the shop, checking the room for the terrorists. Seeing Harry breathing heavily on his knees, and the two remaining men slumped on the wall, the aurors began doing their part of the job.
The arrests.
One of the aurors walked forward, kneeling down to Harry. Then resting her head against his.
"Good job Harry. Sirius would be proud." Tonks said, feeling relief wash over her as the battle finally ended.
Releasing a breath he didn't know he held, Harry nodded his head, whispering a silent and shaky, "Thank you."
Standing from her kneeling position, Tonks offered Harry one of her hands, which he gratefully took.
"Come on, lets get you back to the castle." Tonks said, walking forward while still holding his hand. She stopped suddenly when Harry didn't budge. Looking back at him, she was shocked to see a look of anger and hatred on his young face.
"Where is The Order? Dumbledore?" Harry asked, his voice low and silent.
Tonks looked at him confused, before tugging on his hand again to move. "Probably busy, I don't know Harry. He has other stuff to do." Tonks excused.
"More important than the fucking safety of his students?!" Harry asked her in a sharp whisper. "Isn't that becoming something of a regular occurrence?!"
"I don't want to excuse the man but he is busy! We can't expect him to arrive at every attack can we?!" Tonks argued back, her voice rising.
"Are you dumb?! Hogwarts is ten minutes away? The wards are only around the walls of the castle! He is the Headmaster! It is literally his job to protect us, and one of us is dead!" Harry shouted, drawing in the attention of the aurors and other survivors.
Looking up from Tonks angry face, Harry realized that their argument had drawn in a crowd. Seeing all eyes rest on him, a sick feeling washed over his gut. Wanting nothing more than to leave this place and go back to his friends.
Looking back down, Harry left one last thing with Tonks.
"If he bothers to show up to the funeral, I'll kill him myself." He finished, turning his back on his older friend and walking down the destroyed street.
