Daughter of the Deadman III
Yay! More updates. I'm just happy to be doing this again. It's become fun for me again, so that's a plus. I've had a bunch of people reach out to me wanting to do comic books and art and stuff and part of me wishes I could, but there would be so much legal stuff and red tape that I can't. I'm flattered though and if anyone out there feels like doing fan art, go for it.
Thanks to Wolfgirl2013 for reviewing the last chapter. I'm gonna make an effort to be more consistent, I promise! XD
Chapter 46: Back Home
Several hours later, Taker sat at West Houston Medical Center in a room with Angel. She was sound asleep, having finally given into her exhaustion during the helicopter ride. He had gotten the news that Angel had broken her back for the second time in the same first time had been almost six years ago and she hadn't needed surgery then, but it looked as though this break was worse and was going to require surgery to fix.
As he sat there holding Angel's hand, his mind couldn't help but wander back to the last time they had been here. After the car accident that had rendered Angel blind. He shook his head to try and get rid of the thoughts. Don't think about that. That was then and this is now and this is different. He told himself.
Just then, the door opened and Lea and Wyatt came in with Roman following behind them. Taker looked up and sighed in relief, glad that they had all made it back to Houston safely. Roman walked over to the other side of the bed and took Angel's other hand, looking relieved that she was safe.
"Daddy!" Lea said, excitedly.
"Hi, Papa Taker!" Wyatt said.
"Shush, you two" Taker said, nodding at Angel.
"She finally gave in, huh?" Roman asked.
"About fifteen minutes into the ride over here" Taker said with a laugh.
"Do they know how bad her back is yet?" Roman asked.
"It's re-broken. Five years ago, she got her back broken by Jen and her friends in two places. Whatever it was that Charlotte did re-broke one of the spots and cracked the other. She's gonna need surgery this time around to make sure this doesn't happen again" Taker said.
"But she's gonna be alright…right?" Lea asked.
"And she'll wrestle again right?" Wyatt asked.
"It will take time, but yes. She will. Mostly because if I tried to stop her, it wouldn't end well" Taker said grinning.
"I wonder where she could have gotten that from?" Roman said with a laugh.
Taker glared at Roman, but he was smiling. He knew full well that Angel got her desire to wrestle from him and that like him, she was going to fight like hell to get back into the ring.
"Has Stephanie been able to figure out what happened?" Lea asked.
"Not yet. She said she'd give me a call if she found something" Taker said.
"It could have been literally anything though" Wyatt said.
"I know one thing. If I find out she did it on purpose, I am going to go after her and no one and no rules are gonna stop me" Taker said.
"Why do people go out of their way to hurt the people they wrestle with?" Wyatt asked.
"No idea, Little Man. Some people are just that way" Roman said.
"I hope for her sake it was an accident. I wouldn't want Daddy coming after me when he's mad" Lea said.
"Me either. When Papa Taker gets mad, it's really scary" Wyatt said.
Roman laughed even though he knew that Wyatt and Lea were right. Taker had a long fuse, but when it blew the person on the receiving end tended to regret making him mad in the first place. Just then, Angel stirred a little bit. It seemed like she was getting uncomfortable. A second later, her eyes opened and she started to cry.
"Hey, baby girl. Don't cry" Taker said.
"D-daddy?" she asked.
"Yep. I'm here and so are Roman, Lea and Wyatt. You're OK" Taker said.
"Is there any way for me to roll over on my side? My back hurts and I don't want pain medication unless I need it" Angel said.
"Sure, sweetheart. We'll help" Roman said.
Angel nodded. Roman and Taker both helped her roll over onto her side so that she would be more comfortable. Within a few minutes, she was sound asleep again. Lea and Wyatt looked relieved that Angel was alright, while Taker and Roman were still concerned. Taker wondered if the two of them were thinking back to the last time they were here and it was making them worry.
"Roman, would you mind staying here with her? I need to take Lea and Wyatt home" Taker said.
"Sure. I can stay here. You guys go home and get some rest" Roman said.
"But–" Wyatt and Lea said at the same time.
"Don't start. You two need your rest. Angel will be alright here. Roman will be with her. We can come back tomorrow and visit" Taker said.
Lea and Wyatt reluctantly agreed. Taker picked Lea up and she gave her sister a kiss on the cheek. Angel smiled in her sleep. Then he set Lea down and picked Wyatt up. He gave Angel a kiss too. Then they both hugged Roman and left with Taker. They walked outside and got in the car and drove home. The kids weren't talking and Taker himself was lost in his own thoughts.
Once they got home they went into the house and went upstairs. Lea and Wyatt got changed. Taker was shocked when they walked into his room in tears.
"Hey, you two. What is it?" Taker asked.
"It's just…we're worried. Plus, we can't stop thinking about the last time Angel was in the hospital. It was after the accident" Lea said.
"I know how you feel, you two. I was doing that too. I know it's hard, but try not to let your mind wander there" Taker said.
"It's really hard" Lea said.
"Can we stay here tonight, Papa Taker? I…just…we don't wanna have nightmares" Wyatt said.
"Sure, you two" Taker said.
He got into the bed and Lea and Wyatt got in on either side of them. All three of them laid there for a while, staring at the ceiling. Finally, Lea spoke up.
"Daddy, when is Angel's surgery?" she asked.
"The day after tomorrow. I'll take you two to visit her tomorrow. I'm going to call Sienna's Mom and Dad and see if you two can stay with them for a bit, if that's alright" Taker said.
"Yay! We've talked on the phone a lot, but we haven't actually seen each other in forever!" Wyatt said.
Taker agreed. He knew that the next few days were going to be hard. He just hoped that at the end, everything and everyone would be alright.
The next morning, Lea woke up to find that Wyatt and her Daddy weren't in the bed with her anymore. She got up and walked down the stairs to find them in the kitchen making breakfast. It felt weird to be in the house without her big sister.
"Morning, Daddy" she said.
"Hi, Little One. Did you get a good sleep?" Taker asked.
"Yeah. But it feels weird to be in the house without Angel here" Lea said.
"I know, sweetheart, but before you know it, she'll be back here and everything will be back to normal" Taker said.
"I hope so" Lea said.
"Papa Taker called Sienna's parents this morning. We're going to stay with them starting tonight. And Sienna told us that we'd better pick her up on our way to visit Angel so she can see her too or we're gonna be in trouble" Wyatt said with a laugh.
Lea giggled. She knew that her friend Sienna was a fan of both Angel and Kristy, so she wasn't surprised that she wanted to see Angel before anything happened or in case anything went wrong.
"Alright, you guys, we'll eat breakfast and then go to the hospital for the day" Taker said.
"Daddy, what about tomorrow?" Lea said.
"What about it?" Taker asked.
"Can we go there while Angel is in surgery?" Wyatt asked.
"Absolutely not" Taker said.
"But…Daddy…" Lea said, looking at him with tears in her eyes.
"Lea, look. I know that the two of you want to be there if something goes wrong and I know that you're worried about Angel and that's alright, but I don't want the two of you there. It's not a place for the two of you. Besides, all you'll be able to do there is sit around. It'll be boring" Taker told them.
"But…" Wyatt said.
"No. Look, you'll be fine at Sienna's place. Please? Just do what I say. I love the both of you and if you're with Sienna and her parents, I know you'll both be alright" Taker said.
"OK. Can…we at least make Angel get well cards and give them to her later?" Wyatt asked.
"Of course you can. I'm sure that she'd love that" Taker said with a smile.
Wyatt and Lea beamed. Then the three of them sat down and ate breakfast. After that, they got ready to go to Sienna's house. Taker helped the two kids get their things together to stay at the house for a few days.
Then they left the house and drove to their friend's house. When they got there, Sienna was sitting on the front porch. As soon as it was safe for them to do so, Lea and Wyatt jumped out of the car and ran over. Sienna hadn't changed much, except for her hair being a slightly darker shade of brown than it used to be.
"Hi, you guys! It's about time you came home for a bit! I thought you'd never come back!" she said.
"Sure we would have" Wyatt said.
"I just wish we were home for something else other than Angel being injured" Lea said, looking upset.
"Me too" Wyatt said.
"That's the sad part" Sienna said.
Just then, Taker walked up, holding Lea and Wyatt's bags. Sienna beamed at him. Then the four of them went into the house. They talked to Sienna's parents for a little bit before leaving and heading to the hospital. When they got there, Taker took them to Angel's room. When they walked in they saw that she was awake and alert, having a conversation with Roman. Taker knocked on the door and came in. He walked over and gave Angel a hug. Then he picked up Lea and Wyatt one after the other so they could hug her too. Meanwhile, Sienna stayed by the door, unsure of what to do.
"Sisi, are you going to just stand there or are you gonna come in and say hi to Angel?" Lea asked.
"Um…" Sienna said.
"It's because of Roman isn't it?" Angel asked.
"Yes…it is" Sienna answered.
"He may be the Big Dog, but he's not gonna bite, Sisi" Wyatt said.
Sienna nodded. Then she ran in and Taker lifted her up so she could give Angel a hug. Then Lea introduced her to Roman. Then Lea told her how they had met and that she was like Kristy in that she was deaf too. Roman was surprised upon realizing that Sienna and Lea were very much like Kristy and Angel.
"I'm sad that Angel is not gonna be able to wrestle for awhile, but seeing Kristy as Champ is awesome" she explained.
"I know. I just hope she gets to actually have a good reign this time. Her last two reigns were short" Angel said.
"Aren't you sad that you lost, Angel?" Sienna asked.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. At the same time, Kristy did what you're supposed to do in wrestling. She saw the opportunity in front of her and went for it. She knows that I'd have done the same thing in her shoes" Angel said.
Sienna nodded in agreement. Just then, Angel's cell phone started ringing. Taker picked it up off the table beside the bed and looked at the Caller ID. He sighed and answered, putting it on speaker so everyone could hear.
"Kristy, she's fine. The surgery isn't till tomorrow" he said.
"And I'm fine too, Mom. Stop worrying" Wyatt said.
"Hi to you guys too. Geez" Kristy said.
"Looks like Taker was right. Telling you not to worry didn't help" Roman said.
"No, it didn't. It never does" Kristy said.
"Look, I want you to enjoy your title run, regardless of what comes of it. You can't do that if you're worried about me, now can you?" Angel asked.
"No, but I can't help it. It's become a habit at this point" Kristy said.
"I know, Kristy. Trust me" Angel said.
"So how bad is it anyway?" Kristy asked.
"Remember five years ago or so…when Hunter and his witches kidnapped me and forced me to go to ringside and watched Daddy almost get murdered and I wouldn't go, so they beat me till I gave in?" Angel asked.
"Not something I can exactly forget. They broke your back" Kristy said.
"Yeah, well, whatever the hell it was that Charlotte did broke it again in the same place. And the other spot that they broke has a hairline fracture in it" Angel said.
"Great. So does this mean you won't wrestle again?" Dean asked.
"Dean! Have you been listening all this time?" Angel asked.
"Yep. She's got the phone on speaker. I'm worried too, you know" Dean said.
"Awe, thanks. To answer your question: I will wrestle again. It's all a matter of when is all. Besides, if Daddy tried to stop me, it wouldn't end well for him" Angel said.
"I don't know why, but I completely believe that" Dean said, making everyone laugh.
"Kristy, look, I promise that as soon as Angel is out of surgery tomorrow, I will call. No matter what time it is. OK?" Taker said.
"Thanks, Uncle Taker" Kristy said.
"You're welcome. And Dean? Keep her out of trouble" Taker said.
"I will do my best, but I can't make any promises" Dean said.
Everyone laughed again. They all knew that Dean was just as good–if not better–than getting into trouble as Kristy was. They said goodbye and Taker hung up the phone.
They all spent the day with Angel until finally, she started getting tired. It was then that Taker decided to take Lea, Wyatt and Sienna back to Sienna's house. Lea wasn't happy with this and while she made it known, she went anyway, knowing that at least if she was at Sienna's, her Dad wouldn't have to worry so much about her on top of worrying about Angel. From there, he went back to the hospital and then took Roman to the house so that he could shower and get a meal and a good rest. Then he went back to the hospital and sat with Angel.
"Is Ro OK, Daddy?" Angel asked.
"He's worried about you, baby girl. He says he isn't going back on the road till you're out of the hospital and back home with me. He wants to make sure that you're safe" Taker said.
"Him and David are like night and day, I swear. All Roman wants to do is keep me safe and make sure I don't get hurt. David would have left you alone to deal with all this" Angel said.
"I know. He also told me that if he ever hurts you–intentionally or otherwise–I have express permission to beat him within an inch of his life" Taker said.
"Not that you'd ask his permission for that. You'd do it anyway. Then the Harts and Uncle would get whatever it was that was left" Angel said.
"And the kids would probably join in too. Lea and Wyatt love you. And Sienna does too now that I think of it" Taker said.
"Lea told me that Sienna gets upset when we leave. She's always afraid that we're going to get so caught up in what we're doing that we're gonna forget about her" Angel said.
"That wouldn't happen. Lea wouldn't let us forget about Sienna. No way" Taker said.
"I know, Daddy, but Sienna's a kid. So are Lea and Wyatt. I know sometimes we forget that because they act older than they are, but they are kids" Angel said.
"I know. So, how are you feeling about tomorrow?" Taker asked.
"I'm nervous. Surgery is scary regardless. But it'll all work out. It always does. Are you OK?" Angel asked.
"I'm worried. I'll feel better when you wake up tomorrow with your back fixed" Taker told her.
"And?" Angel said.
"And what? That's it. Really" Taker said.
"Come on, Daddy. You've been preoccupied ever since we got here last night. I can't see, but I'm not stupid. Something is up. What's going on?" Angel asked.
"I've just been…trying not to think about the last time we were here is all. It's harder than I thought it'd be. The kids are having a hard time with that too" Taker said.
"Oh…" Angel said.
"I know that this time is different and all, but…" Taker said.
"It's OK, Daddy. I get it. I didn't even realize that this was going to be so hard for you. Or Lea and Wyatt. And even Sienna. I'm sorry" Angel said.
"Don't be. It's not your fault. Now why don't you try and rest a little? Tomorrow is going to be a long day for everyone" Taker said.
Angel nodded. She knew that tomorrow was going to be a long day for everyone. Even me and I'm going to be spending part of my day sleeping on a table. She thought. She just hoped everything would work out in the end and she would be able to get back to normal sooner rather than later.
Alright, that's it for now. I hope you all enjoyed it. Like I said, I know where this is going to a point. Also, this story has to end at some point, which makes me sad. Would you all want a fourth one? Or no? Anyway, please Read & Review. Thanks so much! Lots of Love~Taker's Soul Girl
