Akala Island Grand Trials (Part One)
The group find themselves in the middle of a small clearing near a small cliff that had an opening in the bottom of it.
"Well, here we are." said Eddy.
"Yes; but where's Kahuna Olivia?" asked Edd, looking around.
"Alola." said a familiar voice. They turned to see Professor Burnet and Lillie walking over to them with Cosmog following them. "Lillie got lost again, so I brought her here to all of you. She got lost trying to avoid Team Skull."
"Are you okay, Lillie?" asked Edd.
"Yes, I'm fine, Double-D; thanks." said Lillie.
"I got to go, the Masked Royal has a match, and there's no way I'm missing it." said Professor Burnet, getting Maxiley's attention. Professor Burnet then turns and walks away. Edd turned towards Lillie.
"So why did you want to come here?" asked Edd.
"I came here because of Nebby." replied Lillie. "As you saw, I didn't come here myself so much as I was brought here with Professor Burnet's help." She then looks at the opening of the cliff wall. "Within these ruins waits the guardian deity of Akala Island; this is Tapu Lele's ruin."
"Intriguing." said Edd. Lillie turned towards Cosmog.
"Why are the ruins so important to you?" asked Lillie. "What do the guardian deities mean to you?"
"Alola." someone called out. The group turned to see Kahuna Olivia walking out of the Ruins of Life.
"Greetings, Kahuna Olivia." said Edd.
"Tapu Lele summoned me here to clean up the ruins." said Kahuna Olivia. "All right then; now that you five have completed all the trials here on Akala Island, you can now face me and the Grand Trial."
"Oh boy!" said Ed.
"I've waited for this." said Eddy.
"So, who's going to battle me first?" asked Kahuna Olivia. Sarah runs forward.
"I want to battle first!" said Sarah.
"My, you're an eager one, aren't you?" replied Kahuna Olivia. "Very well, we shall battle." The Eds, Jimmy, Lillie, and Maxiley walk to one side of the clearing while Olivia and Sarah each walk to one end of it and face each other. A man appears between them.
"This Grand Trial will be between Kahuna Olivia and the trial-goer, Sarah.'" said the man acting as a referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon each. Whoever beats the other trainers Pokemon first wins. Let the Grand Trial begin." Olivia pulls out a pokeball.
"Anorith, go!" said Kahuna Olivia, tossing the pokeball and releasing a greenish gray, Pokemon. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Anorith, the Old Shrimp Pokemon. This is one kind of primeval bug Pokémon. With eight wings, it could apparently swim a lot faster than you'd expect." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"A prehistoric Pokemon; no doubt revived from a fossil." said Edd. "It's quite remarkable that Pokemon regions have the technology to revive them." Sarah pulls a Dive Ball out of her pocket.
"Alomomola, go!" said Sarah, throwing her Dive Ball and releasing her Alomomola. "Alomomola, Aqua Jet!" Alomomola becomes surrounded by water and flies at Anorith, ramming into it and dealing super effective damage to it.
"Not bad; Anorith, use Smack Down!" said Kahuna Olivia. Anorith forms a golden ball of energy on its front claws and launches it at Alomomola, hitting her, and knocking her back.
"Oh yeah?! Alomomola, Water Pulse!" yelled Sarah. Alomomola forms a ball of water in front of her mouth and she launches it at Anorith, dealing super effective damage. Anorith begins crawling around, dizzily.
"It appears Anorith's confused." said Edd.
"Anorith, Bug Bite!" said Olivia. Anorith fights through its confusion and lunges at Alomomola and bites her.
"Water Pulse again!" said Sarah. Alomomola launches another ball of water at Anorith, hitting it, and dealing super effective damage to it.
"Bug Bite!" said Kahuna Olivia. Unfortunately, Anorith lunges at a cliff wall and crashes into it, knocking itself out.
"Anorith is unable to battle; Alomomola wins the match." said the referee.
"You did it, Alomomola!" said Sarah.
"Good work, baby sister!" cheered Ed.
"You can do it, Sarah!" said Maxiley. Kahuna Olivia returns Anorith to its pokeball.
"You did well, Anorith." said Kahuna Olivia. She puts Anorith's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "You're a strong trainer, Sarah, but let's see you handle this Pokemon; Lileep, go!" She tosses the pokeball and releases a purple, plant like Pokemon with pink tentacles. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Lileep, the Sea Lily Pokemon. It sticks to rocks with its powerful suckers and can't be washed away no matter how rough the surf gets." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Another prehistoric Pokemon; this is quite the remarkable battle to see such Pokemon." said Edd. Alomomola and Lileep face each other.
"Alomomola, Wake-Up Slap!" said Sarah. Alomomola leaps at Lileep and slaps it with one of her fins, dealing super effective damage to it due to fighting type moves being strong against rock type Pokemon.
"Sarah's got this." said Maxiley.
"Lileep, Giga Drain!" said Kahuna Olivia. Lileep's tentacles glowed green, and they stretched out towards Alomomola and wrap around her, draining her energy and dealing super effective damage to her while healing its wounds. Alomomola struggles to stay up.
"Oh my; careful, Sarah; Giga Drain's a strong grass type move." said Edd.
"Got it; Alomomola, Wake-Up Slap!" said Sarah. Alomomola slaps Lileep with her fin again, dealing super effective damage to it.
"Giga Drain again!" said Kahuna Oliva. Lileep's tentacles glowed green, and they stretched out towards Alomomola.
"Protect!" said Sarah. A green barrier forms around Alomomola and the tentacles bounce off it.
"Good move, Sarah!" said Maxiley.
"Wake-Up Slap!" said Sarah. Alomomola slaps Lileep again, dealing super effective damage.
"Giga Drain!" said Kahuna Olivia. Lileep's tentacles glowed green, and they stretched out towards Alomomola and wrap around her, draining what little stamina she had left and healing only some of Lileep's wounds and knocking Alomomola out.
"Alomomola is unable to battle; Lileep wins the match." said the referee.
"Excellent job, Lileep." said Kahuna Olivia.
"Don't give up, Sarah." said Jimmy.
"Keep on going." said Maxiley. Sarah returns Alomomola to her Dive Ball.
"You did great, Alomomola." said Sarah. She puts Alomomola's Dive Ball away and pulls out a pokeball. "Ledian, go!" Sarah tosses Ledian's pokeball and releases her. "Mach Punch!" Ledian flies at Lileep while her hand is glowing blue and she punches Lileep, landing a critical hit and dealing super effective damage to it, knocking it out.
"Lileep is unable to battle; Ledian wins the match." said the referee.
"Wow! Taken out in one hit!" said Maxiley.
"Well, Alomomola did give Lileep quite a thrashing." said Edd.
"You go, Sarah!" said Ed. Kahuna Olivia returns Lileep to its pokeball.
"You've done well, Lileep." said Kahuna Olivia. She puts Lileep's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "You're quite the trainer, Sarah; I'm assuming the Eds trained you."
"They sure did." said Sarah.
"Let's see if the training will help you deal with my last Pokemon; Lycanroc, go!" said Kahuna Olivia, throwing the pokeball.
"She has a Lycanroc, too!" said Jimmy. The pokeball opens up, revealing a bipedal, white and red, wolflike Pokemon. "That doesn't look like my Lycanroc." Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Lycanroc, Midnight Form, the Wolf Pokemon and the evolved form of Rockruff. They live alone without forming packs. They will only listen to orders from Trainers who can draw out their true power." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"You see, Jimmy; when Rockruffs gain enough experience to evolve in the daytime, they evolve into the Lycanroc Midday Form that you have." said Edd. "But during the night, they evolve into the Lycanroc Midnight Form that Kahuna Olivia possesses."
"Oh." said Jimmy.
"Ledian, Mach Punch!" said Sarah. Ledian flies at Lycanroc and punches it, dealing super effective damage to it. Kahuna Olivia raises her arm, revealing a Z-Ring with a brown Z-Crystal that had the image of a rock in it. Kahuna Olivia does a series of poses and channels energy onto Lycanroc and the Z-Power symbol appears.
"Lycanroc, Continental Crush!" said Kahuna Oliva. Lycanroc jumps into the air and summons large rocks that form together to form a huge boulder; Lycanroc hurls the boulder at Ledian.
"Reflect!" said Sarah. A glowing wall of glass appears in front of Ledian and the massive rock crash into it and explodes. When the dust clears, Ledian was battered and was struggling to get up.
"How is Ledian still standing?" asked Kahuna Olivia. Sarah raises up her arm, revealing her Z-Ring, which had her Fightinium Z-Crystal in it. She does the poses Kahuna Hala showed her, channeling energy into Ledian, and the Z-Power symbol appears.
"Ledian, All-Out Pummeling!" said Sarah. Ledian unleashes a barrage of fist shaped energy blasts at Lycanroc, dealing super effective damage to it; Ledian then flies at Lycanroc and punches it hard, dealing super effective damage to it, knocking it out.
"Lycanroc is unable to battle; Ledian wins. The winner of the Grand Trial is the trial-goer, Sarah." said the referee.
"We did it!" cheered Sarah.
"You go, Sarah." said Eddy.
"That was amazing!" said Maxiley. Kahuna Olivia returns Lycanroc to its pokeball.
"You've done well, Lycanroc." said Kahuna Olivia. She walks to Sarah who was returning Ledian to her pokeball to recover. "You've trained your Pokemon well, Sarah."
"Thanks, Kahuna Olivia." replied Sarah. Kahuna Olivia reaches into her pocket and pulls out a brown Z-Crystal, similar to the one she has in her Z-Ring.
"For your victory here, I reward you with the Rockium Z-Crystal." said Kahuna Olivia. She gives Sarah the Rockium Z-Crystal, along with pokedollars. "Now let me show you the pose you need to do." She does the same pose she used to activate her Rockium Z-Crystal. "The name of the move is Continental Crush." She also takes Sarah's Trainer's Passport and pulls out a rubber stamp and uses it on a blank page on Sarah's passport to prove she passed the Grand Trial. Kahuna Olivia looks at the rest of the group.
"So, who am I battling next?" asked Kahuna Olivia.
"I'm battling next." said Jimmy as he stepped forward.
"Very well." said Kahuna Olivia. "I'll head back to Konikoni City and get my Pokemon treated, then I'll return."
"Can I come with to get my Pokemon treated?" asked Sarah.
"Of course." said Kahuna Olivia. She and Sarah head back to Konikoni City while Jimmy waits for them to return. Twenty minutes later, they do so, with Sarah rejoining the rest of the group, while Kahuna Olivia stands across from Jimmy.
"Are you ready?" asked Kahuna Olivia.
"Yes I am." said Jimmy. The referee walks in between them.
"This Grand Trial will be between Kahuna Olivia and the trial-goer, Jimmy.'" said the referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon each. Whoever beats the other trainers Pokemon first wins. Let the Grand Trial begin." Kahuna Olivia pulls out a pokeball while Jimmy pulls out a Dive Ball. Kahuna Olivia throws her pokeball, releasing her Anorith; Jimmy throws his Dive Ball, releasing his Wishiwashi. Suddenly, a school of Wishiwashi appear and form around Jimmy's, combing to make a large fishlike mass around him.
"Anorith, use Fury Cutter!" said Kahuna Olivia. Anorith jumps at Wishiwashi and slashes him with one of its mouth pincers.
"Wishiwashi, use Dive!" said Jimmy. The ground under Wishiwashi becomes watery and he dives down into it.
"That was clever." said Edd. "Anorith won't be able to hit Wishiwashi with a consectutive Fury Cutter so it's attack power won't increase."
"Use Harden!" said Kahuna Olivia. Anorith's body starts tightening, increasing its defense. Wishiwashi suddenly dives up from under Anorith and strikes its belly, doing super effective damage. Fortunately for Anorith, its recently increased defense softened the blow just enough for it to stay conscious.
"Wishiwashi, use Aqua Ring!" said Jimmy. A ring of water appears around Wishiwashi and starts sprinkling him with water, restoring some of his stamina.
"Anorith, use Bug Bite!" said Kahuna Olivia. Anorith jumps at Wishiwashi and bites him.
"Wishiwashi, use Brine!" said Jimmy. Wishiwashi releases a large mass of water from his mass body's mouth, and it slams into Anorith, and thanks to its stamina being reduced to at least half by Wishiwashi's Dive attack, Brine's power was doubled, making it too much for Anorith to handle and it passes out.
"Anorith is unable to battle. Wishiwashi is the winner." said the referee.
"Good work, Jimmy!" said Eddy.
"Well done." said Edd. Jimmy smiles at the praise. Kahuna Olivia returns her Anorith to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Anorith." said Kahuna Olivia. Just then, Aqua Ring heals up Wishiwashi a bit more. Kahuna Olivia puts Anorith's pokeball away and pulls out another one; she throws it, releasing her Lileep.
"Careful, Jimmy." said Edd. "Lileep has that Giga Drain attack, and it's part grass, so water moves won't be as effective against it."
"That doesn't mean I won't try my best." said Jimmy.
"That's the spirit, Jimmy!" said Ed.
"Wishiwashi, use Water Gun!" said Jimmy. Wishiwashi releases a stream of water from its mass body, and it hits Lileep.
"Lileep, use Giga Drain!" said Kahuna Olivia. Lileep releases a large stream of green energy at Wishiwashi, hitting it, draining a large stamina from him, and uses it to heal itself. Wishiwashi struggles to stay floating in the air. Aqua Ring suddenly heals Wishiwashi a bit more.
"Wishiwashi, use Dive!" said Jimmy. Wishiwashi dives into the ground again.
"Good; he won't get hit with another Giga Drain for now." said Maxiley.
"Lileep, use Ingrain!" said Kahuna Olivia. Lileep's roots dig into the ground and start drawing energy from it.
"What's that move do?" asked Sarah.
"Ingrain is like Aqua Ring; so it will heal Lileep a bit from time to time." explained Edd. Wishiwashi bursts out of the ground and slams into Lileep, damaging it." Aqua Ring and Ingrain then heal their respective Pokemon.
"Hurry and use Giga Drain again!" said Kahuna Hala. Lileep hits Wishiwashi with one more Giga Drain, successfully draining the last of Wishiwashi's stamina, which is used to heal itself, also dispersing Wishiwashi's mass body apart, and knocking him out.
"Wishiwashi is unable to battle. Lileep is the winner." said the referee.
"Good work, Lileep." said Kahuna Olivia. Lileep nods in response.
"Poor Wishiwashi." said Sarah.
"At least he did his best." said Maxiley. Jimmy returns Wishiwashi to his Dive Ball.
"You did good, Wishiwashi." said Jimmy. He puts Wishiwashi's Dive Ball away and pulls out another one; he throws it, releasing his Lucario.
"Excellent choice." said Edd. "Since Lucario is part steel, Giga Drain won't do much against him, as well as a lot of Lileep's attacks."
"Lucario, use Power-Up Punch!" said Jimmy. Lucario moves towards Lileep with his fist reared back and covered in orange energy; he punches Lileep's face, doing super effective damage to it. A surge of energy rises up from Lucario.
"Gotta love Power-Up Punch's secondary effect of increasing the attack power of the Pokemon that uses it." said Eddy. Ingrain then heals Lileep a little more.
"Lileep, use Brine!" said Kahuna Olivia. Lileep launches a mass of water from its head, and it hits Lucario.
"Lucario, use Brick Break!" said Jimmy. Lucario runs up to Lileep and hits it with a strong overhead chop, doing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"Lileep is unable to battle. Lucario is the winner." said the referee.
"Lucario did it!" said Ed.
"Way to go, Jimmy!" said Maxiley. Kahuna Olivia returns Lileep to its pokeball.
"You were amazing, Lileep." said Kahuna Olivia. She puts Lileep's pokeball away and pulls out her last one; she throws it, releasing her Lycanroc. The two Pokemon stare at each other with looks of determination on their faces.
"Lycanroc, use Accelerock!" said Kahuna Oliva. Lycanroc moves at Lucario and fast speed and slams into him, but it didn't do a lot of damage at all.
"Rock type moves aren't really good against Lucario." said Edd. "It's both part steel and part fighting types."
"Lucario, use Metal Claw!" said Jimmy. The spike on one of Lucario's wrist extends a bit and turns metallic, then he slashes at Lycanroc, doing super effective damage. Another surge of energy rises up from Lucario.
"It seems Metal Claw has further increased Lucario's attack power." said Edd. Kahuna Olivia looked a little worried. She then decides to go all out and brandishes her Z-Ring and does the poses to activate her Rockium-Z Crystal.
"Use Continental Crush!" said Kahuna Olivia. Lycanroc leaps into the air and gathers stones into another large mass, and it starts falling towards Lucario.
"I'm not taking any chances." said Jimmy as he holds out his Z-Ring and puts in his Fightium-Z Crystal, then does the poses necessary to activate it. "Now use All-Out Pummeling!" Lucario then throws a barrage of orange, fist-shaped masses of energy at the Continental Crush, breaking it apart until it completely shatters to pieces, showing a stunned Lycanroc; a few of the energy fists kept going until they hit Lycanroc, doing super effective damage to it. Lycanroc plummets to the ground with a loud thud. The referee then goes to check on Lycanroc and sees it was knocked out.
"Lycanroc is unable to battle. Lucario is the winner. That means the winner of this Akala Island Grand Trial is the trial-goer Jimmy." said the referee.
"We did it!" cheered Jimmy. Lucario looks at Jimmy and nods.
"Jimmy won!" cheered Sarah.
"I knew he had it in him." said Eddy.
"That was so cool!" said Ed. Kahuna Olivia returns her Lycanroc to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Lycanroc." said Kahuna Olivia. She puts Lycanroc's pokeball back into her pocket and walks over to Jimmy. "The way you countered my Continental Crush was nothing short of extraordinary, young trial-goer."
"Thank you." said Jimmy. Kahuna Olivia takes a Rockium Z-Crystal out of her pocket.
"For your victory here, I reward you with the Rockium Z." said Kahuna Olivia.
"Goody." said Jimmy. He takes the Rockium Z, along with pokedollars. Kahuna Olivia also takes Jimmy's Trainer Passport and opens it to a blank page, then puts a stamp on it to indicate he passed his Akala Island Grand Trial. Jimmy's friends run over to congratulate him.
"So, who am I battling next?" asked Kahuna Olivia. Ed quickly steps forward.
"Me me me me me me!" Ed says excitedly.
"Very well." said Kahuna Hala. "I will escort young Jimmy to Konikoni City to get our Pokemon healed, then we'll come back and I will battle you."
"Okay." said Ed. Kahuna Olivia and Jimmy leave for Konikoni City, while Ed waits where Jimmy and Sarah stood during their Grand Trails.
Sarah and Jimmy have successfully passed their Grand Trials. Can Ed accomplish this as well? Wait and find out.
