Swapping Masks

Splinter blinked at his young sons as they played with the meager toys he'd managed to scavenge for them. They had all swapped masks. Leonardo was wearing Raphael's red mask. Raphael was wearing Michelangelo's orange mask. Michelangelo had Donatello's purple mask on. Donatello was wearing Leonardo's blue mask. And they were all carrying on as normal.

Not sure what was going on, Splinter let the morning carry on, although he didn't fail to notice the looks his sons slipped him or each other when they thought he wasn't looking.

Still when the afternoon came, it was time for training, and after leading them through some warm ups, he called for Leonardo to come forward so he could show him what he wanted him to independently work on. To his surprise, both Leonardo and Donatello hesitated and exchanged a look. With a sigh, Splinter reached forward and took Leonardo by the shoulder, pulling him forward. Leonardo looked over his shoulder at his brothers, before turning his attention back to Splinter.

It was only after he had set all of his sons on independent practice while he set up a new exercise that he understood what his sons were doing.

"He knew it was me."

"But how did he know?"

"Because he's sensei. And we're different shades of green."

"I told you this wouldn't work."

Splinter fought to keep an amused smile off of his face, although he couldn't help the twitch of his ear. They had tried to switch places. Kids.
