It was time for Jason to go to work, and he did, placing his green apron on as he went downstairs. He was going to be a waiter, and the kitchen was going to be used by Miwa Hamato. Jason honestly wondered how it was possible this place was still afloat with so little staff. He looked at her, watching as she carefully placed some bread in the oven, her hand waving speeding the process up. Five minutes later and the diner was inundated with the smell of baked goods. He had to admit the teen had talent.
Miwa had her white hair pulled in a ponytail, for some reason divided into two sections, one on each shoulder. Heterochromatic eyes peeking from under her messy bangs at times, filled with curiosity and wonder. Her birth marks were above and below her eyes, forming crescent moons. Jason could only wonder if this girl was ever bullied. Not that she was ugly, she was just… very out of place.
"Jason?," Miwa was looking at him curiously. "Something wrong?"
"Sorry, just thinking" he answered back shaking his head.
"Ok, if you need anything, we are here to help you. Like my family always used to say, anata wa hitori janai"
"You're never alone…?"
"Exactly! I didn't know you knew Japanese!" Miwa seemed almost bursting with excitement. "Oh, right! Jay? Could you later tutor me and Casey? We still have to do some tests and Dawn mentioned you were great at literature and some other stuff…"
"Sure kid, I won't go easy though" Miwa only answered with an eager nod, leaving Jason to smile fondly at her leaving. Maybe he should ask Dawn if he could change jobs and become a teacher instead of just a diner worker… his ex wasn't going to be THAT petty with him, right?
Suddenly, he looked out the window towards an alleyway and frowned. Four people were fighting against another, it seemed he was a clumsy knock off. The black haired man wondered how much the guy had studied him, after all, he had even Red hood's helmet accurate. He kept on serving as if it were an automatic response. Maybe Dawn wouldn't mind a second favor, besides the teacher thing? Jason really wanted to teach this fake red hood a lesson…
No, he had to be patient. Dawn, the incarnation of Athena… yea, he had read enough Greek mythology to know Athena could become very, very… well, petty. And though he wanted to believe this incarnation of her might be more, understanding, Jason was aware he had a growing list of things that he had done to her that could become a pain later. Case in point, being her ex and then dying after she warned him about danger.
The next day rolled in, Jason hadn't expected to be dragged by Charlie, Dawn's boyfriend to Dick and Gwen's temporary apartment. It was obvious that this place was nowhere near permanent, after all, Jason was more than aware that those two would have made this place full of different collections and colors. But there was no figurines, no inside joke decore… just a beige mom's dream come true the cream-colored flat. And the living room had the expectant couple sitting on the sofas like a pair of parents who had just been told their son misbehaved at school.
"What the fuck is your problem!?" exclaimed Gwen as soon as Jason and Charly closed the door. "Jason, what the hell!? why were you fighting those stupid bounty hunters!?"
"Gwen, he didn't do it" defended Charlie combing his curly hair with his fingers. Thank you! At least Charlie was helping a little. "The contract wouldn't allow him. You know that"
"Plus, I was working across the street, Dory! You can ask Casey, I was there." Jason rolled his eyes leaning on the wall. Even police interrogation rooms looked better than this tasteless place.
"I thought the magic part was pure bluff..." mumbled Dick, of course he thought that "But Bruce is still on to us."
"What do you mean? Why would he be on to you?" Good thing Charlie was making it easy for Jason to just sit and listen.
"Well, he recorded Jason's voice, and found some DNA, I have no idea how. But I am pretty sure he already matched it by now" Dick's statement caused the green eyed man to groan. Ok, Jason, don't punch anything…
"Yet, someone is still impersonating you Jay..." Gwen looked confused honey colored eyes searching for answers somewhere. Jason sometimes wondered if she was communicating with Athena or not. Gwen was the incarnation of Freya, Charles was Veles… and Dawn was Athena, so the answer was that it was very possible.
Musings were interrupted by Gwen's her phone. Not minding much, she grabbed it and frowned at the caller ID, without hesitation she put it on speakerphone. "What do you want, Pomponio?"
Dick's blue eyes glared at the phone, Jason had to restrain himself from laughing at his older brother's reaction to the name. Seeing Dick angry was rare these days, sure he wasn't edgy like Jason remembered. Recently he had found out how much his adoptive brother had evolved, becoming a bit more laid back and happier. To Jason, it was still a very bizarre change.
"Gwen...I told you I was better, and I am. Batman and I fought against bad guys." The man at the other end of the line sounded a bit, raspy? Jason raised his eyebrows, why the fuck would this guy even announce that?! "I am a hero...one better than that wuss called Nightwing. I have proved it, he wasn't even there, now, come back with me...please"
"I said no, and I will say it again. Just stop calling already. Like seriously, first you stalk me, and now you stalked him!?" Gwen was pissed, Dick placed a hand on hers trying to calm the dirty blonde as much as he could. Jason wondered why Gwen, even with her powers as goddess Freya, restrained herself… Oh, right, technically she was being a good girl so Batman wouldn't blow a gasket.
"Hey, Mr. Stalker! If you keep claiming you are such a hero or something, how come you haven't done anything against the Joker?" Jason decided enough was enough, after all, this faker, was trying to use HIS name. Jason stole it fair and square, so no, he wasn't going to let someone take it as long as he lived "If ya call yourself a hero, shouldn't you try to do what Batman can't? What Nightwing can't? Dunno, like, destroy the biggest evil or somethin'?"
"Who are you?" Jason now was openly smirking, of course the creep would ask that. Typical toxic ex.
"I'm the errand boy" Jason noticed how Charlie looked like he was deciding if he should cover Jason's mouth or let him keep on talking.
"You are challenging me?"
"Dunno, am I?"
"Fine, Gwen, darling. I will kill that man" aaaannnnnd…. he hung up before anyone could say anything.
"What the actual fuck Jason?!" The mentioned young man covered his ears. Ok, he did forget how loud his family could be.
"Jesus fuck! Calm down! The dude's a wuss, he can't fight, I don't think he would go get joker!" uncovering his ears and straightening his turtleneck black shirt Jason continued. "Besides, he dressed up like me last night. Let me have a little fun"
"Your little fun could result in his death" Added Charlie shaking his head and pushing up his rectangular glasses.
"Then let him die..."Dawn's voice was in their minds. "He hurt sunshine, he stalked her...he made her fear for her life. Manipulated her...so, if he does this. It is entirely his fault if he dies. Do not save him. And if Batman interferes, make sure the Bat doesn't die."
Charles and Jason smirked at the girl's plan's, truly, she could be a devil when she wanted to.
