My next class on the agenda was Pre-Calculus, which I actually enjoyed. I'd always been good at maths, but don't get me wrong. It's not fun or anything, however, it's what I'm best at. There wasn't a whole lot going on. We were still working on logarithmic equations and how to graph them, and of course I got saddled with a 4 page homework assignment right before the bell rang. Anyway, my 3rd class was Speech, which I had never enjoyed. I was good at it, but that doesn't mean I liked it. I've never had much of a problem with public speaking. Of course I would get nervous but who doesn't? The only thing I hated about speech was the actual preparation phase. Ms. Mala was super strict on how our notecards and presentations were formatted. That day we had a substitute, so we just took notes on our own for the whole period (riveting stuff). About halfway through 3rd period was when I had lunch, which was a welcome break from the boredom. Monday was always pizza day, which you'd think would be amazing. Unfortunately the school pizza was less than amazing; It was always burnt, bland, and cardboard-like. I always just went for a chicken sandwich instead. I didn't have any friends in my lunch period that semester, so I kinda just sat by myself and listened to music. After lunch I returned to my 3rd period class and went back to the grunt work Ms. Mala had assigned while she was away. My last class of the day, which was also my favorite, was CAD 2. I got to do tons of cool stuff in that class. Generally we just spent a lot of time making animations. These could range from tiny little tech demos to short videos as long as a couple minutes. I loved that class, and I was good at it too. We were working on water simulations that day, which were really interesting, but they were also stupidly complicated. I didn't have a whole lot of friends in this class either, but everyone liked me because I would always help them out if they didn't understand an assignment. I spent the whole class time working on my animation up until the bell rang, which was standard in that class. I was a little annoyed that I didn't manage to start rendering the final animation, which meant I'd waste a ton of time the next day.
I returned to my locker and grabbed my bag before I exited the school. It was time for the return trip. I started my walk back home, passing through the town on the way back. It was super cloudy which made it fairly cold, so I did a sort of speed walk. This cut the walk home down to just about 10 minutes. I trudged up the driveway and in through the front door, which was already unlocked. When I walked inside I was immediately met by Brandy, who was working on a laptop at the kitchen table.
"Hey!" she greeted, "How was your day?" I gave the question only a moment's thought before answering.
"School is school," I said, "It wasn't good or bad. Maybe somewhere in the middle. How was yours?" I was genuinely curious. I knew Brandy was a nurse, but she still hadn't told me a whole lot about her job.
"Oh it was alright," she responded, "I was doing ER rotations today, but it was fairly slow. We don't get much activity on weekday mornings. I guess that's a good thing." She chuckled. I gave her a smile and started to head upstairs towards my room, but I turned before I went upstairs.
"You've already seen my band itinerary right?" I asked her.
"Yes, the school sent me an email with your classes and upcoming events," she responded, "and I made sure I don't work on Wednesday so I can go to your guys' concert." I nodded again and turned to walk upstairs, but this time it was Brandy who spoke up.
"Oh and no promises, but I've been told your cousins might be there," she said with a smirk. I gave her another quick smile and headed upstairs to my room. The rest of the night went as normal. I finished my homework, read my book, ate dinner with Brandy, watched some T.V, and went to bed. I layed there thinking about the concert ahead. I could get pretty nervous about these things, and that's even with no one I know watching me. Hopefully it'd go well.
