Skye's POV:
I didn't know how to describe what happened at the interrogation. I felt nervous, of course. But I didn't feel awkward at all because I knew the person talking to me like the back of my paw.
-Flashback-
"Hey, Skye! How are you doing?"
"Um, I still feel frightened after what happened to the Princess, but I'm fine," I answered.
"At least you're doing okay. If you don't mind, I have a few questions that I would like to ask."
"Okay."
Chase began with his questions while I listened intently.
"Um... Have you ever felt like you hated the Princess? Was there a reason for you to get mad at her?"
"Uhm, no. Not that I can think of."
"Mm, okay," Chase nodded, "Why were you up the night she was found dead?"
"I...I couldn't sleep, so I thought of going out for a walk. I was walking by the hallway when I saw the Princess' door left open. I came in and saw that she was dead. That's all."
"Did you notice the bloody pawprints when you came inside her bedroom?"
"Well, I panicked a lot when I saw her dead so I just ran off. I guess I just didn't notice it."
Chase only nodded at my reply before moving on to the next question.
"Alright, and lastly... Is this knife familiar to you?" Chase asked.
He took out the knife we saw at the crime scene which was now kept inside a Ziploc.
"Um, no. Haven't seen that knife before," I answered.
"Okay, well... Sweetie thinks this knife isn't from the castle, but I still have to check."
"Wait, she said that?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Sweetie doesn't really go to the kitchen, even for food. She just waits for the food to be served and tossed into her mouth," I told him, "I still can't trust her a hundred percent sometimes."
"Well, thanks for the heads up. I'm trying to watch her too, she looked like she wasn't taking the questioning seriously earlier," Chase responded, "But thanks again, Skye. You can go ahead now."
"No problem, Chase..." I said as I stepped out the door and walked out.
-End of Flashback-
Zuma's POV
I am starting to have a bad feeling. I know exactly why Chase would call me and suspect me outta nowhere. He knew I was up and awake that night. He and Ryder obviously saw me go out and come back in. Ugh, now I can't sleep. What do I do?
-Flashback-
"Hey, Chase! What's up, dude?" I greeted.
"Hi, uhm... Nothing interesting lately. I am still working on this case as usual. Hey, I hope you don't mind if I, uh, ask you a couple of questions," Chase replied.
"Dude, of course... I don't mind," I replied.
Chase took a deep breath before starting while I silently sat there in front of him.
"Have you ever felt angry or even hated the Princess for some reason?" Chase asked.
"Me? Oh, no... Never. I know some of you guys find her weird and flirty around Ryder, but I don't find it much of a huge reason to get angry at her."
"Um, yeah. And about that, what can you say about that?'
"About what?"
"About the Princess showing romantic and flirty actions at Ryder," Chase said, "What can you say about that?"
"Eh... Um, well... I never thought of what it'd be like for them together, but I didn't want to confront the Princess either if that's how she feels. Unless she doesn't have romantic feelings and is just playing others' around, I guess I would get mad at that. But, how do we know? She's dead..."
"Yeah, that makes sense. And also, Ryder told me..."
"Told you what?" I asked.
"The Princess confessed but Ryder declined it. He doesn't like her back, obviously." Chase said, "Oh, and please be quiet about this. If everyone finds out, Ryder'll kill me."
"Wait, why are we supposed to keep quiet about this?"
"I'm not really sure, but Ryder said not to tell everyone."
"Okay..."
"Alright, also, I want to ask about the night the Princess died. You were up and awake that hour, right? Also, you were the one to find her dead body."
"Yeah, you saw me go out and come back in. I just really felt like I needed to go so, yeah."
"And you saw bloody pawprints, right?"
"Yup, on my way back," I answered.
"Weird... Skye didn't say anything about the bloody pawprints as if she didn't see them. But how come you saw them?" Chase said.
"Or the prints weren't there yet?" I added.
"Hmm, it could be. I haven't examined the pawprints yet, but when I do, I'll find out whose pawprints it'll match," Chase agreed, "Okay, last question..."
Chase took out a Ziploc where the knife from the crime scene was kept.
"That... That's the knife we saw at the crime scene," I muttered.
"Yeah. Does it look familiar to you?" Chase asked.
I looked closely at it to see if it was somewhat familiar.
"Nope, I don't think I've seen this before..."
Chase put the Ziploc back to where he took it out as he concluded his questioning with me.
"Alright, I guess that's all I have for now. If I find anything, I might try to call some of you back here again next time."
"Okay, thanks for the heads up, dude. I'll be going then," I replied.
"Sure... Thank you too, Zuma."
I headed out the door after he thanked me.
-End of Flashback-
Marshall's POV
I was dying to know what happened earlier at the questioning, but all the pups seemed like they weren't in the mood to talk about it. I decided to go to sleep instead but my curiosity kept me awake. Wide awake. Suddenly, I got up at my feet when I heard the sound of a vehicle parking nearby. I came out of my pup house to see who it was, letting out a yawn at the same time.
"Hello? Who's there?" I called out.
I noticed the familiar vehicle and rubbed my eyes, making sure it wasn't a dream. It was Chase's cruiser. But what was it doing here?
"Chase?"
Chase jumped out of his cruiser and went straight to his pup house. He looked totally exhausted.
"You're home... I... I didn't expect you to come this late."
Chase turned to me as he heard my voice and noticed me awake.
"Marshall... Y-You're still awake? It's late already."
"Yeah, I just can't sleep," I replied.
Chase looks at me and seems curious to know why I couldn't fall asleep.
"Wanna talk about it?"
I decided to open up.
"I've been curious about the questioning that happened earlier, but I guess the pups aren't in the mood to talk about it so, I left them all alone. But now, I can't sleep because all I can think of is that questioning and everything."
"I see... But why do you want to know?"
"I just want to make sure it wasn't one of us who killed the Princess."
"Okay, I get you... Look, I'm gonna find this killer. And whoever it is, they will pay for what they did," Chase assured me, "For now, you don't have to worry so much about it."
"Thanks, Chase. I think I really needed to hear that."
Before Chase went into his pup house, I interrupted him.
"Um, Chase?" I said, "Can I tell you something?"
"Sure, what is it?"
"I... Uhm, well... I just wanted to..."
I stuttered a lot before letting out what I was really about to say. Chase waited patiently for me to find the right words.
"I just wanted to tell you that... you can trust me. I mean, we can even help each other. That's... that's only if you need help."
Chase let out a smile upon hearing my positive words.
"Okay, Marshall. I trust you..."
I let out another yawn I snuggled in cozily in my pup house. Before shutting the door, I bid goodnight to the pup next door. Heh, I mean, next pup house. I guess both kinda work since we both have a door.
"Goodnight, Chase..."
"Sweet dreams, Marshall..."
Before I knew it, I was already fast asleep.
What's up, Detectives?
Well, that concludes all the interrogation scenes. I am happy to publish this a little earlier than my last updates. I wanted to make it up to you guys since my last updates took me a week or so.
It seems like Marshall is trying to get Chase to trust him. That sounds good. Hopefully, it'll stay that way. Or will it?
Thanks again and I hope to see you in the next chapter.
