Jeremy was up early the next day. He'd barely slept, actually. All he could think about was his father and sister. He had idolized his father since he was old enough to recognize him. He didn't think anything could change that. He knew the man wasn't perfect, but he always thought he was a good person. But good people didn't use their own kids as test subjects. No, Elena wasn't technically his, but she grew up in his house. He raised her. He was supposed to love her. He was supposed to take care of her. Instead, she was a means to an end. If what Bonnie and Caroline told him was true, he'd created her with the sole purpose of using her as a lab rat.

Then there was Elena. Elena was falling apart. How could she not? The father she loved had turned out to be a monster in her eyes. He didn't love her. He merely tolerated her to further his experiment. Jeremy was reeling from what he learned about his father. That wasn't even a tenth of what it had to be doing to Elena.

Jeremy entered the living room of the Boarding House. Stefan and Damon were there. Damon had what looked like an old journal in his hands.

"This guy was freaking insane," Damon said.

"Is that my father's journal? Give it to me," Jeremy said as he held out his hand.

"Jeremy, you don't want to read this," Stefan said before turning to his brother. "You shouldn't have taken it. Elena wouldn't want anybody reading it."

"Let me see it. I want to know exactly what my father did," Jeremy said.

"Jeremy, it's sick. It will destroy any good feelings you have for your father," Stefan said.

"Good. He doesn't deserve my good feelings," Jeremy said before snatching the journal from Damon's hands. He started reading where Damon left off. Stefan was right, it was sick. His father spoke of vampires like they weren't even people. He spoke of Elena like she wasn't a person. "'May 6, 1995. The subject still shows no signs of vampirism; however, I've taken periodic blood samples. There appears to be an anomaly in her blood. I can only conclude that this is the result of vampire blood' He couldn't even use her name. He couldn't even give her that dignity!"

"I'm sorry," Stefan said.

"Don't apologize to me. I'm not the one he destroyed," Jeremy said as he flipped through the journal. Does he ever mention the Original that was used to father Elena?"

"Not from what we've seen so far. Elena has probably looked at it a thousand times. If it said anything, she'd know by now," Stefan said.

Jeremy nodded. He knew it was a long shot, but he was hoping for some evidence that Elena's father wasn't Kol. He wanted to take at least that pain away from her.

Soon, Bonnie and Caroline walked into the room. Bonnie saw the journal in Jeremy's hands. "Jeremy, are you okay?"

"Why does everyone keep asking me if I'm okay? I'm not the one this was done to. I'm not the one that has to live with this depravity for the rest of eternity," Jeremy said angrily. He was never going to forgive his father for what he did to Elena. He frankly hoped the bastard rotted in hell.

"It still affects you," Bonnie said.

"I wish he were here right now, so I could tear him a part. My father is dead to me in more ways than one now," Jeremy said.

"You told him?" a new voice said.

They all turned to see Elena in the doorway. She looked slightly angry, but more defeated than anything else.

"Elena, we didn't have a choice. You've been getting worse, and he noticed. He needed to know," Caroline said.

"Elena, I love you. You're my sister no matter what," Jeremy said before holding up the journal. "This filth is on him! He's a monster and he's where he belongs!"

"I didn't want you to know. I didn't want to hurt you. I destroy everyone who comes into my life. I didn't want to destroy you," Elena said sadly.

"That's not true. You haven't destroyed anyone. This is not your fault," Jeremy said.

"I killed my own father," Elena said.

"Elena, you don't know that it's Kol," Caroline said.

"I'm pretty sure I do. Finn was daggered, and it's not Klaus or Elijah. Neither one of them would've let the Augustine Society get the jump on them. That leaves one person, and I murdered him," Elena said with a shudder.

"I killed Kol, Elena. Blame me for his death," Jeremy said. He would take responsibility for Kol's death. He died by his hand. Elena didn't need to carry the weight of that. It was his fault.

"It was my plan. I told you to kill him," Elena said.

"So what? He was an Original. He deserved it," Damon said.

Elena visibly flinched at his words. Damon believed Kol's death was justified because he was an original. So was she. Did he think she deserved to die? Although, if he did think that, she didn't exactly disagree with him. She felt she did deserve to die, not because she was an Original, but because of what she did to Kol.

"Shut up, Damon," Bonnie said as she glared at him. Did he not hear how stupid he sounded. He might as well have just told Elena that she deserved to die for being an Original.

"Elena, I'm not sure you can deal with this on your own anymore. I would like to call Klaus," Caroline told her. She had agreed last night not to call him, but she still thought it was a good idea. She was watching her best friend become more depressed with each passing day.

"Absolutely not!" Damon snapped.

Elena frowned at her friend. "Why? Why would he want anything to do with me? I killed his brother. No, I don't need to inflict myself on the Mikaelsons'. The last thing they need is their brother's killer, the kid that he created against his will, forced on them."

"Elena, is that how you see yourself?" Stefan asked in horror. He knew she was struggling with this, but he never imagined that she could think so little of herself, that she could hate herself so much that she saw herself as scourge on the Originals' lives. He was starting to wonder if maybe they should call Klaus. Elena's outlook was beginning to frighten him.

"It's how it is, Stefan. I'm not meant to exist, and not because vampires aren't supposed to be able to have children. Kol was violated. He didn't consent to have his sperm taken. He didn't consent to have a child. I may as well be the product of rape. And if that wasn't enough, I took his life. I don't belong in this world," Elena cried before running from the room. She went out towards the door. She wanted to get out of that house. No, she wanted out of the world. Like she told Stefan, she shouldn't exist. She didn't deserve to. Kol had been right in her dreams.

'I burned because of you. You ought to burn too,' he'd said.

Elena looked down at the daylight ring on her finger and slowly removed it.

Jeremy looked at the spot Elena had just left. He wanted to go after her, but he didn't know what to say. This was much worse than he thought. He didn't know she felt so little of herself. He wished he could undo the past. If he could, he would've stopped himself from killing Kol. That night had done none of them any good anyway. Kol had been right. Searching for the cure had been a suicide mission, for Jeremy literally.

"Guys, we're in over our heads here. Things are getting worse. I don't know what to do," Caroline said. That wasn't actually true. She did know what to do, but it meant going against Elena's wishes.

"Just let her deal with it for a while. She'll be fine," Damon said. Elena was being dramatic right now. She'd get past it.

Suddenly, all the vampires in the room heard Elena scream. It was a very painfilled scream.

"Oh my God!" Caroline exclaimed.

"What is it?" Bonnie asked.

"Elena," Stefan said before running out of the room. The others were right behind him. He got to the front door to find it wide open. When he made it outside, he saw Elena standing on the front lawn engulfed in flames.

"No!" Caroline screamed.

Stefan flashed over to Elena at vampire speed. He picked her up and flashed her back into his house. She was still in flames, which burned his arms, but he ignored it. When he got her in the house, he laid her down before running to grab a blanket. He put it over her and started rolling her around to put out the flames.

Elena screamed as she continued to burn. It hurt horribly bad. It had to be what Kol felt. She deserved to feel it too. She deserved to die, like he did. When the burns healed minutes later, she didn't feel any better.

Jeremy stared his sister in horror. He couldn't move or speak. He had no words for what he just saw. He'd thought he'd lost her for a second, and that thought was terrifying.

Damon looked at the daylight ring that was sitting on the table and then glared at Elena. He knelt down next to her and started shaking her. "You took off your daylight ring? Are you crazy!"

"Get off of her!" Caroline snarled before grabbing him and chucking him across the room.

Elena hugged her knees and started sobbing. "You should've let me burn. I deserve it."

"That's not true," Bonnie cried. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She wasn't positive if her friend was trying to kill herself. Maybe she thought burning in the sun would kill her or maybe she just thought it would hurt because she was an Original. It didn't really matter. Neither one gave her any comfort.

"I'm going to take her upstairs to rest," Stefan said before picking Elena up and carrying her out of the room.

"Don't leave her alone," Jeremy called after him.

Caroline began hysterically sobbing as she ran back towards the living room where she'd left her phone. She grabbed if off the coffee table as soon as she got there.

"Put the phone down!" Damon demanded.

"Go to hell, Damon! I should've done this weeks ago," Caroline said. She should've done it the moment Elena told her that she was related to the Originals. Because she hadn't, Elena had the chance to hurt herself. Caroline just never thought it would get to this point.

Damon snatched the phone from her hand as she went to dial. "You're not calling that psycho!"

"Get over your damned pride! Elena tried to kill herself!" Caroline screamed.

"But she didn't kill herself. The sun can't kill her anyway if she's like the Originals," Damon said.

"So, it's better that she tortures herself! No, I'm not letting this go one! Someone has to protect Elena from herself! We don't have the power to do that. The Mikaelsons do," Caroline said.

Bonnie held her hand out, and Caroline's phone flew from Damon's hand to hers. She handed it to Caroline. She didn't know if this was the right choice, but they had to do something. They couldn't let this happen again.

"Do it, Caroline. Call Klaus," Jeremy said.

Caroline didn't need to be told twice. In fact, she was already calling when Jeremy spoke.

The playful tone left Klaus' voice immediately. "What's wrong, love? Whoever hurt you will regret the day they drew breath!"

"I wish it were that simple. There's no one you can kill to make this better. I need you to come now, and you need to bring Elijah, or Rebekah. Bring anyone you can. I need you here as soon as possible. Yesterday wouldn't have been soon enough," Caroline said.

"Expect Elijah and myself no later than tomorrow morning. I will try to be there sooner if I can," Klaus said.

"Thank you," Caroline said before hanging up. She then started freely sobbing.

Bonnie went over and hugged her. They both cried in each other's arms for their friend.
