Update: so here we go, it took forever but here's the edited version. Hope you enjoy this one too! New chapter to be posted tonight!

Chapter 442

They had been locked down for six days, and they were now on their seventh and hopefully, their last day. If they all tested negative today they'd be released tonight and they could go home.

Despite being separated Rowan and Steve still found a way to be both annoying and sickeningly cute. On top of that man calling her at least once every two hours, Rowan visited twice a day.

That meant she'd be at that door, buzzing the intercom to talk to him, twice a day. Once in the morning after she dropped Nahele off of at school, and once in the afternoon after picking Nahele up.

On the weekend she had come in once a day, but she brought everyone with her. Nahele, Grace and Charlie.

She also would swing by after every baby-appointment she had. So she could update Steve. Which made NO SENSE, cause she'd FaceTime him every time she went into those Doctor's appointments so he could see everything.

There were so many groans of: "I miss you so much!"s and "I just wish I could hold you"s from them. The amount of times Steve disappeared into the washroom with her on the phone so they could have phone sex was disgusting. And yes, while they couldn't hear him, they knew exactly why he was locking himself into their only washroom while Rowan was on the phone.

However, because Steve had all this free time to call her, they were arguing more.

Like the two day argument they had when Steve found out that Con had been going to Rowan's Lamaze classes. Yes she still came to visit him, yes she picked up each and every time he called, but every time they spoke it ended in them arguing.

After every argument he would complain to them, and he had not been happy to find out that his friends were on Rowan's side. It wasn't that they didn't get his side, but he was being stupid and they called him out of it.

Even Tani who was slightly uncomfortable with the thought of her boyfriend accompanying someone else to a parenting class where it was going to be assumed that he was the parent. But Rowan had told both Steve and Tani when on speakerphone that she had been sure to tell everyone who made a comment that she and Con had been saying that he was her brother and just standing in until Steve got out of the hospital.

She just wanted someone to go with, and he was legit stuck in a hospital wing being quarantined. All she had was Con. And yes, Steve should know that the person she really wanted to go with was Wo Fat, but he was busy driving Grover crazy.

So yes. Steve was being stupid and they kept reminding him of that every time he brought it up.

Along with the Lamaze argument, Steve argued with her about how apathetically unhelpful Wo Fat was being.

So far he had stabbed a suspect in an interrogation for no reason as the man had been cooperating. He cut off the hair of another woman cause she wouldn't talk but even after she did talk he continued cutting her hair. He crashed one of their SUVs into an HPD vehicle to create an impromptu barricade to stop their suspect from fleeing. And after each and every incident he was just confused as to why they were mad at him.

He had gotten results, hadn't he? Results and justice, who cares how he got it done?

And it was worse when he had Con with him, because it became the two brothers against Grover and they would just run off and do whatever the hell they wanted.

He kept telling her to get her brother's in line and she would just refuse to get involved.

And talking to Wo Fat for Grover wasn't helping either.

But then, as they got closer to Steve and the other's being released, they forgot to be angry with each other and went back to being sickeningly cute. The "I can't wait to hold you/kiss you/fuck you"s were getting near constant. It was getting to the point where Danny couldn't wait to get them together just to get them to stop.

Though, they all knew that the second those Doors opened and Steve could get to Rowan she'd be in his arms and they'd be making out.

Today was their last day.

Rowan had come that morning, right after dropping Nahele off just like she usually did. She had literally just left and suddenly Steve was twice as squirrelly as he had been throughout this whole week. Not being able to touch his wife for seven days, not being able to get a good night's sleep with her in his arms had been messing with him. That and the man was stir crazy.

He hadn't gone for a run or a swim in a week and he was DYING.

He wasn't sure how this led to him grabbing Danny's shaver and heading into the shower area where the big sink and the bigger mirror was, but it had. And Danny hadn't been able to stop him in time, so now he was half way through probably the stupidest decision of his life. Danny was absolutely certain that, when Rowan saw what he had done, she was going to blame Danny for failing to stop him.

Danny was sitting there, listening to the buzz of the shaver, trying to concentrate on the game of Go Fish he was playing with Junior and Tani.

"Perfect!" he head Steve say from the shower room behind him and Danny snorted to himself.

Yeah. When Rowan saw what he did when she came back with Nahele, she might break into the quarantine room to throttle Steve… and then Danny.

"I think, um, being cooped up in this room for six days, it's finally getting to him," Tani said.

Danny already knew that but he wasn't going to say another word about it after he expressly told Steve what he thought about this choice after he told him about it originally. He had already shaved off part of his hair though, so there wasn't really anything he could do at that point except call him stupid and let him finish.

"Tell me about it," Junior lamented. "I think this is worse than when she was on the mainland. At least he had things to distract him."

"She's going to kill him," Danny snarled. "She loves his hair. She's going to kill him and then me for not stopping him."

"I mean, she has to know you couldn't have stopped him."

"Rowan's not rational. She wasn't rational before that idiot got her pregnant and she sure as hell hasn't been rational since," he said. "Do you have any sixes?"

"Go fish," Junior said and Danny reached for a card.

"It's the food, that's what's driving me crazy, is the food," Danny added and Junior nodded.

"No, no, none of you here has the right to complain because neither of you is a woman sharing a bathroom with three dudes," Tani said. "Alright?"

Junior laughed at that one. "She's right, we are disgusting. You got any twos?"

"Nope, go fish," Tani said.

Steve and that shaver were still going and Danny was starting to worry he was actually shaving off his scalp. "Buddy, why don't you just stop already and let Mother Nature do her thing? She's on her way, I promise."

"Firstly, I'll have you know, that I will be going to the grave with a full head of hair, but thank you. Second of all, I'm not doing the full uh, Grover, here, okay? It's just, it's taking it back a bit, it's a buzz cut."

"Your wife is going to hate it," Danny said and Steve frowned.

"You don't know that."

"I do, I do, cause she likes to play with your hair. It's her favourite thing to do. When people ask: What's your favourite thing about your husband? She doesn't say, his abs, or his eyes, she says…"

"My chest and my hair," Steve finished for him. "And both are still there, just one is a little shorter. She'll be fine."

"How often do people ask her favourite thing about him?" Tani asked him softly. "Cause you had that answer ready."

"What they actually ask her is why do you like him so much?" Danny said. "And those people are her brothers and they ask her near daily cause they don't like him."

"What are you talking about?" Steve called to them, he clearly hadn't been listening but could tell they were talking about him. "What is he bitching about?"

"Nothing, don't worry about it," Danny called. "Just uh… don't do any trimming uh, below the waist. Okay?"

Steve was quiet for a moment and finally the shaver stopped buzzing, seconds later Steve was beside Danny, looking like an idiot who shaved his own head.

God, it was SO short it was barely there. It looked like he was going to be going back on active duty with a haircut that short.

Rowan was going to kill them both.

"Alright, who's next?" Steve asked. He turned plaintive eyes to everyone at the table but no one jumped up to join the no-hair-band wagon he was on. He was going to go down on that ship by himself. "Junior what about you?"

"Uh-uh, pass," he said without a second of hesitation.

"What do you mean, pass? Look at this, beautiful. It's low maintenance, easy."

"Uh… thank you, sir, I just… I'm trying to grow my fro out."

Danny was grateful his back was to Steve, he couldn't see the smirk he was hiding. That was a thinly-veiled "I don't trust you with that shaver" from Junior.

"Okay. I think that's a giant mistake, but do your thing," Steve said. "Danno, what do you say? Just the sides?"

Danny stared at him for a moment and then said: "You know better."

Steve was undeterred. "I got a fade… listen to me, man. I got a great fade, all right?"

"Please, please, go away," he said, but did cry out a: "Buddy," when Steve made a move for his hair with those clippers. Danny had to actually swat his hand away from his head. "Hey, listen, ghetto Vin Diesel, go somewhere."

Both Tani and Junior started laughing, which just made Steve scowl and gave Danny more confident.

"Get outta here. I'm gonna kill ya and I'm gonna end up in another room. I don't need that. Okay? I'm out of here in six hours, go away."

They really were excited to go home. All of them. Even if they didn't really have someone to go home to.

Junior would be happy to go back to their regular routine. Tani would be happy to see her boyfriend. Steve wanted his wife and his son. Danny wanted his kids.

Grover wanted them all back so he could stop having to deal with Wo Fat, especially since he was twice as bad if Con was with him.

Five-0 did have the fastest turn around since Wo Fat started helping full time though, the Governor had definitely noticed that. To the point where there were rumours that she was talking to the FBI about keeping him.

"Are you actually going to grow your afro?" Tani asked Junior. The two of them had been getting closer since the quarantine, more friendly.

That might have been okay if she wasn't dating Con and their interactions didn't look a lot like flirting.

"No, I was just joking."

"Aw, no, you should, you'd look really cute."

"What?" Junior cried. "Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"You have a boyfriend," Danny said to her. "A very possessive boyfriend by the way, so maybe don't do that. Do you have any Aces?"

"A boyfriend who's practically living at his sister's who just happens to not be his biological sister," she said bitterly. She noted then that everyone was giving her a strange look and she cleared her throat. "Uh… go fish."

That was a lot to unpack. She had been making a lot of snide remarks about Rowan and Con's relationship, but none to Con. Danny had asked her quietly, and away from everyone else, if she had tried to bring it up to him and found out that she had. He had dismissed her concerns, much like Rowan did to Steve.

It also didn't help that Steve didn't like her saying literally anything negative about his wife, even if he agreed. So she had basically stopped bringing it up around him.

Luckily her awkwardness was not caught by Steve as they were distracted by the door to their quarantine wing opening. That meant the doctors were coming in to check them.

To confirm that they'd be good to be let go tonight.

"Dr. Keller, what's happening, man?" Danny called.

And then, just to annoy him, Steve called out a: "What's up Doc!"

But he didn't reply, he was too busy shutting the door. That was procedure after all, but he still talked to them when he was doing it usually.

He walked into the room and all of them noticed right away that it was not their doctor. Sure they only saw him through the goggles, but they could tell by the shape of his eyes and his face that it was not the doctor they were used to see.

"Hey, where's Dr. K?" Tani asked.

He answered Tani by pulling a gun. All of them were on their feet in an instant, hands up and backing away.

Definitely not their doctor, definitely a dangerous situation.

"Phones on the table now," the man ordered.

Danny had never wished for Sandy more, but she was still down. She'd've activated by now, Wo Fat and Rowan would have been notified. Rescue would already be on the way.

They had no choice, though, they all slid their phones onto the table and over towards him, just as he requested.

"Back up!" he ordered, as if they all weren't trying to stay as far away from him as possible. He took zip ties out of his bag and slammed them on the table. "Cinch them with your teeth, in front."

"You got the gun here. You're in control of the situation. Just tell us what you want, okay?" Steve said, his voice level and free of emotion. Danny could tell he was freaked out though because his jaw was pulsing. None of them had any idea what this was about but it couldn't be good.

Steve was trying to talk him down before it escalated into this nutjob shooting them all.

"If I have to ask again, you die first," the man said.

Danny reached for a zip tie immediately. He was not going to be the reason Steve got shot today. He took a set of zip ties and shoved it into Steve's hands too.

As instructed they all used their teeth to cinch them onto their wrist. When everyone was done they all just stared at him and he stared back. Gun unwavering in his hand.

Really not a good sign. This man should have been nervous, but he wasn't. At all.

"Alright, what's next?" Steve asked, clearly the other leader in this situation, which made sense cause that's what he always was.

"On your knees."

They all exchanged glances, but they didn't have a choice. They got down on their knees and then waited to see what this guy would want next.

He slowly moved to the wall, his eyes and his gun never once leaving them. When he got to the wall he ripped the intercom off of the wall, then tugged on the wires so there would be no way to use it all. No way for them to call for help.

He moved back, also slowly, and then swiped the phones off of the table. When they were on the ground he took turns stomping on each everyone until the screen was nothing but a shattered mess.

None of this was good. He was making it so there would be no way to call for help. Why the hell was he doing this?

"There's something I need to tell you," Steve said, his voice finally wavering in his uncertainty and nervousness. "Wearing that suit in here does not guarantee you protection."

"He's right," Tani said right away. "There are a lot of things that you need to do before you come in here to avoid infection, do you understand? It's very complicated, it's a process."

"Probably, you already exposed yourself to a lethal virus that has a very high mortality rate," Steve added. "Now, if that's the case, you're gonna need the antidote, and if you kill us, you can't get that."

He was silent a moment and then slowly took the mask off of his face.

"Don't worry about me," he said and then the gun swung towards Danny. "Worry about him."

Oh. Fucking. Great.

"Relax, okay? Please, relax, relax."

"You remember me, Detective Williams?" he asked. Danny blinked his eyes. Was he supposed to?

"No, I don't… I don't know who you are. Should I know who you are?"

"Pity," was all he said before he pulled the trigger.

Danny grunted, a sort of high pitched grunt of pain, Steve was at his side, right away, like the best friend usually was.

And then the man shot himself.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

This was not how their last day was supposed to go. Steve was beyond freaked out now. Danny had been shot in the chest, and all that he could think was that Rowan REALLY should have told him that TODAY was the day of the shooting.

Was she really that mad at him that she hadn't warned them? Because WHAT THE HELL! She said she'd stop withholding visions and dreams from him when she was mad.

"Danny, Danny. You hang in there, Danny. Hang on," he said. Danny's eyes were fluttering, he was still conscious for now but Steve could tell that the pain and the shock were starting to war in his system.

Steve left him, only for a moment, he told himself. He swiped everything that was left from their breakfast trays to the floor, and a plate clattered. Great, now they had something sharp to cut their zip ties with.

Tani knew what to do, right away. She picked up a shard and cut Steve free first. Once he was free he was by Danny again, leaving Tani to free Junior, and then he cut her free after.

He ripped Danny shirt apart so he could take a look at the damage, he was not happy at what he saw.

"I'm going to go get help," Tani cried, rushing for the door.

"You hang in there," Steve said to Danny. "Junior. Junior, get me something for the bleeding!"

Danny reached up for his arm, his fingers gripping into Steve's navy blue shirt. "Call… call Ro… call. Call… her… call her."

"Ro? Ro… what do you want Ro for? Besides we can't, we can't, he broke the phones," Steve said. "You just… you just hang on, you're going to be okay…"

"Not call… call…"

The second he said it again he realized exactly what his friend wanted him to do. And he was sort of blown away that he didn't realize it right away.

"Danny…"

"She'll come, she… she… always comes."

"She's not using the void remember and we don't want her in here, she's pregnant."

"She doesn't… have to use it… she just needs… to come."

It was getting harder for him to talk and Steve was starting to get worried. They needed help. Danny was right, they needed Rowan.

He looked up to Junior who was ripping up their bed sheets to Tani who was looking over the phones he already knew weren't going to work. He didn't have time to explain this right now, he just needed to get them prepared.

"Right this is gonna get weird."

Both Tani and Junior looked at him like he was crazy. And yeah, he was going to look crazy too, but he needed to do this.

He steeled himself, took a very deep breath and shouted: "ROWAN!" on the top of his lungs.

He pulsed as much power as he could into it, wanting to be sure he reached her and whatever shields she had up at that moment.

And above him the light didn't just go out, it shattered.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

Rowan had another one of her weird feelings while she was driving. This instant niggle in her stomach, right behind her baby, that something was wrong.

The last time that had happened Steve had been on a boat about to die from a hemorrhagic flu. There was no way that he could be in trouble again, though. He was safely in quarantine, unable to get into any real trouble, and yet still managing to be controlling despite not being there with her.

She did, however, have the feeling that she had been forgetting something, but that had been following her around all morning.

After seeing Steve, she had gone out for some baby shopping, figuring she'd look at some of the things they'd need for a nursery so that when she got Steve back she could drag him to the mall and just point at the things she liked.

Steve, like most males, didn't like shopping. She figured streamlining the shopping spree would help him enjoy it. There were several options to look at and they could pick the best for them and their baby together.

She had, however, gotten some small things cause she couldn't resist. Like a galaxy themed mobile, a few onesies and a bath set.

He couldn't get that mad at her for starting to shop she was six, almost seven months pregnant at that point.

She might have been super proud that she still wasn't really showing, but according to her doctors that might not be a good thing.

They had prescribed her a bunch of supplements to be sure the baby was getting all their nutrients and she was trying to eat more.

She had gotten at least ten mall pretzels and two massive slushies to drink and had been heading home when the niggle started in her stomach.

She wanted to check, but she was driving, so she figured she'd check the strings when she got home and then employ Wo Fat or Con to check it out.

That was until a sudden welling pain over took her whole chest. It sucked the air out of her lungs, it had her slamming on her breaks and then swerving off to the curb before she could cause any damage. Behind her cars were honking and she got that, it was her fault but it literally took all her will power to get her heart rate and breathing under control.

For a brief moment panic over took her, but not just her own, someone else's was there as well, caged just behind her heart.

The overwhelming need that accompanied it told her exactly who it was too.

She got her breath back and then put a hand to her stomach. "Did you feel that baby? Gosh I hope not."

She pet her stomach, hoping to soothe not just the baby growing there but her as well.

She knew now that something really was wrong. Steve had called for her, and he was very much in danger.
