His body felt cold. Damp and alone. All he recalled was the attack on the lab, Steelix rampaging, and the watery depths taking him whole. Water had seeped into his wound, even he knew that much.
What about Absol, Eevee, the officers, the pokémon, Auntie Fern? Were they okay? I… can't tell… anymore…
Then it happened.
"Spirit Unification!"
"Let's go, Ei!"
"Shinn Asuka, Destiny Gundam, go go go!"
Voices familiar and one lone one not…
Those voices… are mine… But who's… Shinn?
All he felt in the vast nothingness was a single hand gentle place itself against his chest.
"Your time isn't up yet, Relon. We still need you."
At once, life returned as his eyes snapped wide. Within the white light, all he saw was a reflection of himself.
Unknown
When he blinked the first time, his sight was blurred.
When he blinked the second, his bodily senses returned.
The lush green grass, the quiet sounds of the night life around him, the vision of the starry night sky, the ambient breeze flowing through.
By the third, he finally realized his leg didn't hurt. Nor was he wet.
Even more surprising, there was no wound as though it had never occurred. He lost a lot of blood and the pain was very real so how could that be? Did a pokémon with good healing properties fix him? He supposed that had to be the case even if the logic was not all there.
Slowly, he lifted up to find himself within a forest. It seemed to be the middle of the night. Just as it was when he fought against the proclaimed Team Chaos.
Then he went into alert, head frantically looking around to find no sign of life aside from the nocturnal pokémon that were minding their own business or staring curiously.
Was it safe to call out to anyone? Wait, where even was he? He spent a good part of his youth on his aunt's lab yet he didn't recognize this area much less the species that he normally saw. Spinaraks, Ledybas, pinsirs, swoobats, and so on.
"Diverse species, the Uni Region has that but just not in Coral-Reef City…"
Could he have been transported to a different city? If so, where?
Inspecting his belongings to see everything still there, he signs in relief. At least he had proof he originated in Coral-Reef city as well as some spare cash.
Wait.
If he was transported to another place to recover, why the hell was he out in the middle of a forest in the dead of night?
"Okay, something is seriously wrong." Wasting no time, he was about to depart in a random direction, when a shiny red object coincidentally sitting on a stump caught his attention. "A pokéball?" He blinks, bending down and picking it up.
Even that wasn't quite right. It was indeed a pokéball but not the normal kind. If anything, upon closer inspection…
"This looks just like the custom pokéballs from Mom's game…"
Then it clicked. A horrifying and disturbing idea.
"No ways…" He mumbled, his body shaking as he aimed the ball at the stump.
In flash of light, a familiar small fox materialized. There he stared gobsmacked at the eevee before him. One glance at the tail told it was also a female.
There was no way, right? Like animes, books, and movies did it all the time. But that was just fiction. The idea of reincarnation or resurrections simply weren't real.
As much as he wanted to deny the possibility, there was only one way to know for certain.
"Eve?"
As if finally realizing there was someone in front of her, the eevee turned his way for her eyes to go wide. Without hesitation, it gave a coo of its name lunging with surprising strength easily toppling Relon over.
Wincing from the force, he soon felt the fur of Eevee's face nuzzle into the crook of his neck as though it was their first time meeting.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait! Does that mean Absol, Emboar, Gardevoir…?!"
"Evu Eev!" She chirped happily nuzzling his face so much any could argue she was getting rid of a life long itch.
Wait… Then… He actually…
Finally, he sat up as the world around him sank in.
He had died.
Whoever tried to resuscitate him had failed. He had failed to protect everyone. Those he cared for, those met along the way, the kind and brave Zorua, the policemen, his aunt, Sabrina…
Like a dam that hadn't realized how close it was to bursting, the tears exploded as sobs escaped.
He had been isekai'd into a new world of pokémon. One without anyone that knew him.
Eve knew this would be an occasion unlike any other. She knew this well. She recalled six years ago first being born to a person. She knew this was her trainer but who the human was made little difference. She could see him. The boy like a big face in the sky full of joy, love, and adoration talking as though he was right there himself. The human that stood before her and gave orders and fed her was just his avatar. A placement for the real him.
Now, here they were. After years of "being together," they could finally truly be just that. Only, the way in which that reality came to be wasn't so pleasant. Relon, her best friend, had lost it all. He'd lost his own life fighting and defending other people and pokémon. She along with the others could hear it. They couldn't see but words were as good a description as any while the avatar he controlled remained dormant.
Then, likely the same as Relon had experienced, a white light enveloped their eyes. She awoke in her pokéball, the comfort of it she knew all too well. Relon had gone on a mission early into their adventure to have custom balls made for the pokémon he caught.
She remembered all of it. She also recalled an invisible force nearly separating her from the world she once knew. The only cause for her being with Relon was thanks to Gardevoir's psychic ability.
Now here she lied, comforting her beloved trainer as best she could.
For what seemed like an eternity, the sobbing mess that was Relon mellowed out into tender sniffles until all went quiet. Rubbing at his puffy eyes, he could only give a wry chuckle at Eve.
"Hell of a place we ended up in, huh Eve?"
"Eevu…"
"I'm okay now, I think. Sorry about that." He said, tenderly petting her fur. "Think we're in the gaming world or another world altogether."
"Eev Eevee!"
"New world altogether, huh?" He breathes out. His face was still stained partially by his tears but he was too emotionally drained and distraught to care. "Wonder where the others are…"
As many new questions as he held, Relon knew that standing around wouldn't do any good. First thing they needed to do was find food and water. Best case scenario; they stumble upon civilization and find his other supposed. Worst case; they spend a night in the unknown wilderness.
"Ready?" He asks for Eve to hop onto his shoulder nuzzling his cheek, the soft touch of hair already easing his aching heart.
"Eevu!"
"I'll take that as a yes."
Either way, the beginning of the end had passed and now his end's beginning was just starting.
A/N: Had no clue what I wanted originally for this story, only a vague idea. Now I got a plan.
